  1. Anyone using these Vintage Fenders?? I'm thinking of going with these and would like some imput... I'm going for a retro kinda look but am concerned about using fiberglass fenders... http://www.tejasthumpcycles.com/metricbikes/metriccruiser/parts/fenders/suzuki_vintage_fenders.jpg AD Copy: Vintage Yamaha fenders are styled to complement the look of vintage automobiles. Their long, flowing shape and “V” detail bodylines create a nostalgic, classic motorcycle that people will drool over and beg the question, “What year was this made?” Vintage Yamaha fenders are a direct replacement for stock.
  2. I've been following and reading some posts on installing RK slip-ons. Have also read how to mod them for more sound. Everyone talks about drilling out, knocking out plugs, etc. Today I found a local customizing shop for Harley's and asked if he had any RKs. He took me over to a shelf he had in back and got several down to show me. One set were stright tip and I could not see through them another set which he had cut out (gutted) were in bad shape. Then he showed me what he said was a newer set (he said from an 06) that were slash cut style and were in good shape. When I held them up I could see all the way through them no plugs or anything blocking view or anything. I could see a pipe in the center with lots of holes in it running the length of the inner pipe. He said they were stock and nothing had been done to them. My question is are there diff cores in the stock RK mufflers. Some blocked by plugs and baffles and some that you can see stright through? Sure need help.
  3. I know that this is a yamaha site, but I've been looking for a sissy bar that will fit a 78 GoldWing with a 9" luggage rack. If I can find a bar in good shape I can do away with the luggage rack. The old bike is a lot like a venture in that I can't find aftermarket parts anywhere.:bang head:
  4. On vacation in Bruce Peninsula and wife came apon a 2000 Yamaha RoadStar 1600 for $7950 which will go for $7500+tax as is . Looks to be excelant shape with sadle bags windshield carb jetted and K&N filter. Any advice??? Hard to find first gen in good shape for good price.
  5. I've had this shield on my bike for about a year and a half... it has VERY few miles on it, mostly just lightly covered in the garage but after I uncovered it this spring, I see stress cracks all across the viewing area. http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/pp-windshield.jpg Anybody else have this problem? This is a Lexan piece that ships FLAT and you BEND it into shape... it's much wider and taller I REALLY like it... but oh, those lines...!!! The manufacturer thinks it may just a bad "batch" that the piece was made from...
  6. I have a prescription change coming up and will probably get new lenses and frames. What particular motorcycle factors in choosing eye glasses have others found important? I am thinking of such things as tinting, shape of the frames, or the temple pieces. Iowa Guy
  7. Hi Folks: I have a friend that dosen't have a computer. He's 78 and loves the 1st gen venture. We found him an 85 in very good condition but he needs all three rotors. Does anyone have any to sell or someplace reasonable to get some that are in good shape? Wayne
  8. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i251/rella_photo/test/mowing.jpg mowing that is......... first mow of the season today....with many many more to come........yuck ! man I'm out of shape ....got to get that rider running.
  9. However, ALL the chrome was corroded, the new carbs arrived unusable [Yamaha engineer said they are at 200k miles]. It was sent to FL port running perfectly & well covered & supposedly in a crate with 2 cages in good shape? Buyer isn't happy. It left here in excellent shape. I even had to ride it to the main highway to the transport truck. Buyer made ALL shipping arrangements. These pics are 3 days after he picked it up at the harbor. Something went REAL wrong. The #2 cylinder wouldn't fire & the 98% bike arrived as nearly junk. Any Ideas?
  10. Seems like no matter how old you are or how experienced you are, you always find out something new. I have been beating myself senseless trying to find a decent modular helmet that fits. I've tried just about everyone's models and no matter what, be it a "round" shape or "oval" shape, my chin is always against the chinbar and hard into my forehead. I've talked to many different companies with no help. Finally I called a small little ebay shop to ask about Cabergs. After chatting he told me that it doesn't really matter what "shape" your head is, the biggest issue for fitting is.... your neck. He says that a helmet is designed to fit into the crook of the back of your neck. If you are like me with no neck then no matter what you try, the fit is going to be off as the helmet isn't going to seat properly. So I can look for something that has a small or even no neck roll or modify one by trimming. I suppose everyone knew this already but something new to me after all this time.

    New Ride

Well I bought a new to me 06 Rsv Black Cherry, if ya want to see pics its in the classifide ads under JR Lewis, its in great shape and JR is a good guy. Bike was excactly as he stated, except those pipes are alittle loud:whistling: I was looking for something with a lower seat ht. and this is it. Cant wait for some warmer weather to shine her up and go for a spin. If anyone is looking for a nice 87 VR in blue, let me know, I will be listing it in the class. shortly. Its in great shape with 42k on the speedo. Thanks craig

    VR Caps

Any word on when the VR caps (hats) will be available? Mine is in really bad shape and I want to get a VR cap or I will have to order a SCRC hat.
  13. I have a fairly new set of Jardine exhaust for a lst Edition. The pipes are presently installed on my 88 VR. They have been on for approximately three months and personnally, I don't like them because for me, they are too loud. They are in excellent shape maybe a little dusty in places. I am now looking to trade someone these Jardines for a really good set of stock mufflers. Anyone interested? Let's talk.
  14. My 1987 is looking pretty good for a 20 year old bike. However it has a few areas that show it's age. I have several cars which I keep in top shape, and I think it is time to get my VR up to par. The biggest issue is the aluminum in areas seems to have a haze or oxidation on it, with the rear footrests being the worst. The trim around the front fairing and rear saddlebags also seems to have some along with the trunk rack. I only see a few small spots on the engine, but I am not sure what the best way to address it is. The brake and clutch reservoirs do not look good and probably need to be replaced. A few of the emblems have started to discolor a little, while others look new. The paint is in very good to great shape. The seats are in perfect shape, mainly due to me using Aerospace 303 on them. I've made a commitment to ride it a little more often, and when I take it out, I want to with all the pride a 1st Gen deserves. So what say you, oh great bike waxers of the forum?
  15. Leather with Lycra. They say that it is more abrasion resistant than conventional leather and yet stretches and holds its shape as well as being water resistant. Will be interesting to see what comes of it.
  16. Have a pretty good used MT90 B16 74H. She could go another 4 or 5 thousand miles easy I would think. Thought someone who was thinking of trying the thinner front might be interested in it. It's yours for the shipping. I had it on my "06" and went to the standard Avon Venon front and installed the leveling links. The thinner front was a big difference, but I wanted more meat up front when I took my summer trip so I changed it out. I am going to stay with the standard front. I also have a used Dunlop 404 150/80-16 71H front that is in real good shape. It is also yours for the shipping. I changed it out when I put on the Avon Venoms. I just have both tires in my garage just laying around and thought I would post this to see if anyone was interested in them. I would not even have bothered it they were not in good shape.
  17. Im gonna sell my '83. I wanted to give folks here a shot at it first if they wanted it. New tires front and back, new battery, new fuseable link and wire, new rear brakes and rebuilt rear caliper, recent oil change, fog lights in front, marker lights in back , reflective trim around bags, good windshield, newly recovered seat.....will need fork seals. Is she in perfect shape....nope BUT shes in good shape. BUT shes a runner BIG TIME. 9-0 running against HD, 5-0 against Corvette. HAHAHAHA. She quick quick and reliable. Ive ridden it all throughout Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas with no problems at all.
  18. my parts list is winding down. the list under 'parting out '83' is now on page 10 and is getting smaller. however, the carbs, saddlebags, and trunk are still available due to a buyer ceasing contact. the carbs are in surprisingly good shape and all linkages function the trunk has typical stress cracks. there is some corrosion/crazing on the metal parts, but not too bad. locks work saddlebags have some corrosion as well but are still in good shape. the upper locks work, but the ones that attach the bag to the bike are frozen. i havent had a chance to work on them further. make me an offer, im tired of this stuff taking up garage space!!!
  19. My bad - I just found Newman's post - sorry for the repeat.... I have an appointment on Thursday at a local plastics shop to get my shield cut down. I have to do it - I can't stand looking through it in the rain or when there are lots of bugs on the shield. I am a little nervous about how far to cut it down - I have to go low enough to look over it so probably about 4 inches from the top. My fear is that may be too much and then I would be disappointed. I don't want to end up looking at the edge though, got to look over it. I am curious if you've done this and how it went. How much did you cut off and how did it affect the air flow? Do you get more buffeting, how about your passenger? Do you regret cutting it. I read some of the threads about the Clearview's as a replacement and may go that way but not yet... What about the shape? Did you end up with the same shape as stock or did you flatten the curve a bit? I'd love to hear your stories - I found an article online about how to do it myself but power tools and I are a bad mix, usually resulting in a poor finished product and multiple sutures for me ;-) Andrew
