  1. The pictures below are of the passenger seat and upper corners of the backrest. I showed some members at the Henry Ford M&E and the thought was it could be the dye or glue seeping through. It feels like tree sap, very sticky when the sun is out. The light colored spots are where I've tried Goo Gone on it, the real dark areas are new spots. It started out just on one corner of the seat and now pretty much spread across the entire rear of the seat. (the white spots are fibers from a towel I put on the seat so my Daughter didn't stick to the seat) Last Sunday at the M&E the Right upper corner was just starting to get sticky. Yesterday the Left corner started and is a mess today. When the sun is out it gets VERY sticky and will stick on your fingers. When cool at night barely sticky at all. Whats going on here, any guesses? First two pictures is of the seat, next one is Left upper corner (just started) last one is of right upper corner, you can see how much color has came out of the seat using Goo Gone in the last picture. Goo Gone doesn't do anything to get the sticky gone, just seems to take color away.
  2. tired of trying to get these on and off. Also don't like the idea of riding without them seat seems to lift off when getting off and on, or shifting position. Took a couple of small blocks of nylon and drilled holes in them and threaded them onto studs, finger tight. Aprox. 1/2 x 1/2 x 3/4
  3. HELP, MY BACK IS KILLING ME..!!!! I'm looking for a backrest for my 2000 Millenium Venture. It is a cream colored rubber seat. I might even want to have a similar color leather seat and backrest built for it. I just bought a Mustang seat for my 06 RSTD from Phoneman1981 and it has a backrest on it. Now I don't think I can ride the Venture without a backrest. C Ya, Graderman46
  4. Hello everyone. I recently joined this forum to help with some modifications I am making to my 2006 RSTD Midnight. I specifically needed information regarding retrofitting a Venture pillowtop seat to my bike. The information I have gotten so far has been great! I've done some reading and searching and it has been a big help. I have done the AIS plug up that I read about on this site. Thank you so much. Right now I am looking for a diagram to help with fabbing the front L brackets I will need to mount the RSV rider's seat on my RSTD. I would be really appreciative if somebody could help me out with it. I have a Venture seat on the way, ordered the rear seat bracket off E-bay, and have "a plan". I just need some help with the front brackets. The rear seat will be no problem, thanks to what has been posted here. Thank you in advance, I promise some of my questions will be annoying, but I could use some help and this site was recommended to me by some people from another forum who spoke very highly of it. 5. Is the Bead Seat cuttable. If so is there a special way so not to unravel it.
  6. Looking for how others tied their bead seats on. Looking for a sturdy, ok lookiing and a quick way to get them off and on.

I noticed some old threads about this problem and although one post said checking the wires under the seat fixed the problem, is there any other issues anyone has come across? although I know one day I will need to crack the fairing, I am trying to put that off if I can, otherwise I will start under the seat. ANy other advic? Thanks
  8. Just wanted to say, I took my seat to Rick Butler yesterday and he performed his mods to my new seat. Very satisfied with the quality of Rick's work. He has made this improvement to both my Venture pillow top & this GW seat. Almost ready for Cody....
  9. I am finishing up the electrical wiring for a trailer. The trailer has independent turn signals and all lights are LEDs. I have read many of the threads about hooking up to the bike's electrical and notice almost all talk about tapping into the wiring under the seat. I have an 08 RSV and my question is: has anyone tapped into the harness behind the licence plate? I was going to make 2 into 1 water proof bullet connector adapters so not to have to splice into wires for the bike's female trailer plug. (running, brake, 2 turn signals, then a ground) and if anyone has Pros or Cons as to why one hook up is better or worse / under the seat vs behind the licence plate, it will help me decide. (i wired my gold wing up to the harness behind the rear tail light cluster and never had any issues) Thanks, Shamue
  10. I took off on my RSTD to the Smoky Mountains for a week of riding. This was the first extended (multi day) trip for the RSTD. I quickly discovered a few things I need to upgrade/change on the bike, such as: Seat - my seat is too small (or my butt is too big). My seat is not long enough front to back. It became VERY uncomfortable after 250+ miles but after 600+ miles in a single day. I began to wonder if I would ever be able to sit again. At 600+ miles even the seat beads were non-effective. Thus far my search for a larger (longer) seat has been unproductive. I can find wider seats but not longer ones. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Lighting - I need more lighting on the rear of the bike!! In the mountains with early morning fog (thick as pea soup), on a couple of occasions the folks behind me could not see me until they were just feet away. I'm thinking a set of Hyperlites may adequately address this issue. Rider awareness - When riding the "Dragon" double yellow lines and curvers don't matter to some, so be prepared to be passed on the left and RIGHT by other bikers. Obviously the group I was with were not sport bike riders but we were not poking along either. Some guy blows by us passing on the left and right. Glad he was fast because if I could have got my hands on him, well I'd be in the pokey writing this. Preparation - In six days of riding we encounted heavy rains on three of the days. It goes without saying good rain gear is a must! We found chartreuse colored gear was noticably more visible than any other color.
  11. 2005 Escape I folded down the back seat on the escape to load something up...then when I went to lift the seat, the middle seatbelt won't "un ratchet" to allow the seat to lift up! I can get it ( the seat) to move about 6" and that's about it. (I had to be very careful how I worded this post to avoid Viagara ads!) I've tried feeding the belt back into the slot..but it won't release tension. I can't pull it out at all. Any suggestions on how to release the tension on a seat belt? The retractor is near the top of the backrest in the middle back seat and is not very accessable when the seat is folded down.
  12. As you may have seen in a previous thread, I have recently purchased and installed the 4 pc Ultimate Seat set + passenger armrests. The weather here sucks, but I've managed to get 300+ km in since the installation and I'm ready to share my results. Customer Service / Delivery: I purchased from the website with no human contact necessary. Automated emails notified me of the completed purchase, and in due course, that the products had been shipped. There was a bobble by UPS during shipping when the parcel went astray in Moncton NB, but it was corrected and was still delivered ahead of the projected schedule. Definitely not the supplier's fault. Packaging: Sturdy cardboard boxes, with each piece individually wrapped in bubble wrap. It would have taken a significant event to cause damage during shipping. Fit and finish: No detectable flaws in the material, stitching, assembly etc. Installation: Wide backrest: one of the washers embedded in the back around the screw holes seperated. Pressed back in to position and it stayed. Fit and finish, including screw hole line up - perfect. Rider backrest: Slotted in securely and easily. Wide range of adjustment for angle. Backrest pouch: Not exactly sure what I'm going to use this for yet, but it's well made and fitted. Passenger seat: The stock mount with 3 points of attachment had to be removed to be replaced by the supplied single point mount. There were contact pads that supported the front spread over the same area that the stock mount covered. Rear bracket was not quite in contact with the fender when originally placed in position but tightening the rear screw hand tight fixed that. Riders seat: Rear bracket fitted securely into position. The front screw holes did not initially line up. I sat my 260 lbs on it and it shifted a bit. Got off and looked - yup - precisely in place. Riding position: I'm about 1 1/2" higher, 1" forward. Not bad at all. Changed my arm angle slightly but not enough to matter, and I became accustomed to it quickly. Comfort: Intially stiff, but this did not cause a worry as it had been reported by other reviewers. It's quickly molding to my shape and becoming more confortable every time I sit on it. Riding: I'm not precisely sure why, but I find I feel more 'connected' to the bike. My confidence in low speed handling has improved. The one middle distance trip I've made with it was a real eyeopener. Km after km, it just felt right, like my leather recliner in the TV room. The stock seat would have had me wriggling after 20-30 minutes trying to ease the ache. I do find that vibration may be moving the backrest adjustment screw as I ride. I'm going to give it a few more long runs until I'm sure exactly where I want the backrest positioned and then I'll loctite it. Passenger: I've taken 3 of my children for rides with it. All agree that the wider backrest, more comfortable seat and arm rests allow them to sit back and enjoy the ride. My 9 year olds find that they cannot get their feet flat on the boards any more because the rider backrest is in their way. ( I expect they'll grow) My DW has sat on it and pronounced it 'comfortable' but she hasnt been on the road on it yet. Price: There's a bit of sticker shock with this one, but if you can get past that I feel it's an extremely satisfactory solution to a very unsatisfactory stock seating set. If anyone has any questions about the seat or installation, please feel free to PM.
  13. Hey guys. I have never given the pass seat a second though but The weather is getting better na dmy wife and daughter are wanting to ride with dad!. the pass seat on mine is mounted with one screw at the tail but this is not enough to keep it secure. the seat still moves to the left and right. Is there something that i am missing or is it that the rubber grommets under the seat are compressed and need to be replaced. While working on my buddys venture i noticed his seat had a whioel different bracket to mount to.
  14. Like it said, I have an 83 mk1 and the seat has started getting messed up from the heat and sun. Its almost like its melting and has gotten sticky. I like the stock seat but it really isn't too comfortable for a long ride. I'm a bigger guy, think 250ish so I was wondering if there is an aftermarket seat available for the first gen mk1s, would really like it to have the option for or come with a drivers back rest. Haven't been able to find any seat options so any ideas would be great, or any ideas about making stock seat more comfortable. Thanks for your time guys:bluesbrother:
  15. Hi guys.. I just got back from a road trip (ahhh..) and ran into an issue with the new Works rear shock on the bike.. When I installed the bike this winter, in a heated garage, I set the preload (sag) as per directions (I don't have the instructions with me to quote what it is).. but I measured and adjusted and measured and adjusted with full gear on etc.. Later this cold spring I took the bike out for runs and jaunts and wow, nice stiff suspension... seems the preload was excellent and the rebound adjust set just right.. And rode that way for a little while before the long road trip.. And then it happened.. Traveling from up here in 40-50'F weather, the bike started to ride squirrely when we got into the warmer temps down in the USA, in the 70-80's the bike was now acting like it had a dead Yamaha shock (I should know, I had two dead ones hence why replaced the last warranty shock with a Works). I had hit a divot on the I95 that literally threw my assets out of the seat to such a height my buddy who was following me said he could see the seat of my trousers as I came up out of the seat.. This might have oomph'd the hell out of the system. With my buddy's 08 RSV next to mine to compare, I could push down on the right side passenger hold bar and the bike would rock down a lot compared to his.. At home, my bike's suspension was stiffer than his and wouldn't rock.. When I sat on the bike, he noticed the sag was more than a few inches.. I also noticed that perhaps the rear of the bike was much lower as I could sit with both feet flat on the ground where before I was heel up on one foot.. ergh.. At no time, while the bike was sitting in the garage or in parking lots did I notice any amount of oil on the floor nor any drips from the bottom of the shock.. When I sit on the bike and press down with my weight, I hear a sound from the rear suspension.. my buddy says it sounds like a groan, I hear it more as fluid rushing under compression through a valve or chamber, almost like a swish sound. Needless to say, barreling down the I95 with a dodgy rear shock wasn't any fun at all.. ouch. I made contact with the people who makes the shock and they suggested I should adjust the rebound at the bottom of the shock.. and this helped a lot! Almost as new.. but I had no means or tools to re-adjust the pre-load at the top collar. As we headed back north into NJ and NH, the shock felt fine.. but when we got to Nova Scotia.. wow, there it was, the same shock I remembered having before, except it being a little droopy in the rear.. (somewhat like me I guess).. When I adjusted the rebound with an allen key, I did not feel any 'clicks'.. just free turning but it did do something.. I was under the impression it should "click" into various positions as you rotate it. Do you have a Work shock? Do you notice a difference in the shock from cold to hot? For us, we get this temp difference with one or two days or riding south, so it was rapidly noticeable.. really not fun.. I can't believe that 20-30'F ambient air temp could affect the spring or system that much.. The shock is covered under warranty so I'm not concerned about that.. But is it possible I actually didn't set it up properly in the first place and that one large bump in the heat proved it? Just curious if anyone else with the same shock can shed some light on (A) does the rebound adjuster 'click' or just turns... (B) do you notice changes in your shock from cold to hot etc? and © do you hear a fluid swish noise when you put your weight on the seat? thanks in advance..
  16. Hello, I'm new here, just picked up my 1999 RSV last week, love it so far. I've seen here on the site that one can mount a Venture Pillow seat on a RSTD. My question is has anyone mounted a RSTD front seat on a Royal Star Venture ?? Thanks, Mike
  17. After several hours riding, I find that my butt gets numb and tends to feel sore afterwards for a while. I modified the seat to relieve pressure on the tailbone and that worked fine but still get the "numb butt". So, I happened upon a "like new" Corbin dual touring seat for like 1/2 of the new price .... hopefully that will make a difference but if not, I figgure I could re-sell if for what I paid no problem. 18. I finally got around to doing the mods to my seat that I had planned for a while. The nice warm temps we have been having here lately reminded me that riding season will be starting soon. I've done this mod on two other bikes in the past and it's very easy to do. Took me 2 hours yesterday while sitting at my living room table and that includes cleanup Anyhow, I created a webpage showing the mod for anyone that might be interested in doing this yourself. I'll update it with my impressions after I get my bike out of hibernation and get a long ride or two in. Pillow Top Seat Mod
  19. I am looking to get a seat and backrest for my RSTD... I have a Mustang seat on my VTX1300 and I like it, but I recently sat on an Ultimate seat and man was it nice..... I was wondering if I could get some feedback, good, bad, or indiferent from anyone that has had either of these on their RSTD or RSV.. Thanks, Robert C.
  20. hey is there a list to sign up on to request a a seat mod from steve at md that is if he's going to be there this yr. I'm thinking i'd like to have mine done now old age is setting in lol
  21. Hi, I have an '07 RSV and after about 4 rides this spring the battery is almost dead. I purchased the bike used in August of '09 and so the last 2 winters it's been on a Battery Tender Junior. I went to go for a ride yesterday but it wouldn't turn over so I cleaned and tightened the battery connections under the seat and left it on the BTJ overnight but when I tried to start it the AM the lights come on but the battery only seems to have enough power to engage the starter but not turn the engine over. Thanks
  22. I am looking to fix the sticky seat issue in an economical fashion. Has anyone ever used a seat cover from B&H, and if so are you satisfied? Any photos? Thanks, Joel
  23. I have a really bad hip so I sit leaned more to one side, cause it is more comfortable. Now I try to sit more strait up but just cannot help leaning slightly. My question is what can I do to make the seat a little more comfortable for me. I know there may not be anything but I gots to ask. Shaun
  24. I have a '87 venture and want to replace or fix my seat. I feel as if I sit too low. If I put my sheepskin gelpad down I sit pretty good. But if I put my wife's gelpad down on top of it I feel as though I'm sitting at the right height. Just the seat by itself and I feel like I'm way too low. Would a mustang or corbin make a difference with the height? Or should I get my stock seat "re-cushioned"? Appreciate any help. Thanks
  25. Does anyone know a good place / website to get one of those wooden bead seat covers for a bike seat at a good price. I want to get two but hate the idea of dropping $50 to $60 not knowing weather or not I'll like them. There was a place on ebay selling them for 12 buck but looks like there out.
