  1. anybody have an 83-93 seat they want to sell. must be black. can be either from the 1200 or 1300. let me know and how much you want for it shipped
  2. 2006 RSTD Looking for a replacement seat like the Ultimate http://www.ultimateseats.ca/yamaharoyalstarTD.html Wanting to get a seat that is lower than the stock seat, yet comfortable for long rides. Also want to put a chrome rail around the seat. Backrest is a plus. Going to take the passenger pillion and passenger backrest off, but will want to be able to use this in case I ever want to take a passenger out on this bike. Recommendations?
  3. I was on the local CL and posted was a Corbin seat with backrest off a 85 venture! Well I have an 85 venture and have been on the fence about getting a utopia back rest and this deal was about $70.00 more than just the rest. Long story short I contacted him by email and left my number and while I was a church yesterday he called and left his # called back "Just sold it" It was even the right color for my bike. I find the stock seat very comfortable and just want a backrest . In all reality I don't go all that far (yet) and I have a Corbin on my V65 Magna with a sliding backrest that seat was bad to start with. So do the Utopia rest work well ? Can the passenger get on easily . I'm thinking I can live with the stock seat and the color is a perfect match or should I keep hunting for a Corbin? A new Cobin is roughly half of what my bike cost.thanks
  4. Anybody ever looked into lowering floorboards an inch or so for long legged riders.I have been looking at a 2012 RSV and they seem to sit high enough to allow such a mod without creating too much of a drag issue in corners, but maybe i am wrong.I am 6 foot 3 and maybe raising seat is an option also. I can always do highway pegs anyways but the floorboards just feel too high for my long legs.I normally ride a Raider and I am use to forward controls and pegs.Maybe pegs would be a good solution.Anybody have pics of a floorbaord to peg conversion?
  5. When i was shopping for this RSTD, met a guy that had his bike lowered and inch. AND had his seat lowered an inch. It was a stock seat. Looked just as thick as the oem. Looked like an OEM seat. So, my question is: Is there an easy way to lower the seat about an inch? I'm getting the seat redone. Probably a Butler seat since he lives about 10 miles from me.
  6. 06 RSV. when put the stand down in with it in neutral it dies so took the switch off took the back panel off of the switch treid to start it it started moved the handle bars tried to start it again it wont start this has happen to me bofore i just rock the bike while on the side stand and some times its start some times it dont but i hear a loud clicking noise so i took the seat and all the side covers off. the noise is comeing from what i can tell is the starter selanoid i am guessing that that is what it is its under the seat and the positive and negative cables run to it. so can it be that the thing is going bad it has done this off and on for the past two years or is it something else that i should be looking for?
  7. Leaving for Hawaii tomorrow. I booked the flight on United's web site on Jan 2 and paid extra for exit row seats. I printed out my confirmation and I was seated by my wife. Now I look at the seating chart on the plane and somehow my seat was moved to an economy. When I called customer service I spent two hours on the phone getting passed around and was finally told they have to deal with it at the airport as another passenger is seated there. Now I booked it early because we wanted those seats and when I booked it only a few seats were taken. My question is, does anyone know what the rules are or does anyone work for United that can explain. It's a 9 hr flight, United wants to move me to a non exit row seat, I told them I bought that seat and paid for it and received confirmation and all they want to do is move us to a regular seat.
  8. Does anyone know of where you can get replacement studs for a pillow top seat (drivers) for a 2003 RSV? Or maybe have a homemade solution to fix them? I'm talking about the threaded mounting studs that bolt the seat on to the frame.
  9. Since I decided to restore the ol' body to the condition it was in back in the 70's (minus the drugs) I have also decided to retro fit the RSV with a NOS 8 track player with Quad sound. I figure once I win one of the trailer raffles that I have entered, then ill have sufficient space to haul those 8 track tapes around. Im also considering going with fuzzy dice and pompom balls around the seat. Hmmmm, anyone have any Jimi/Janis stickers laying around? Maybe some tie-die seat covers.....The possibilities are endless. Hmmmm, maybe I should go further back into the 50's, for Eck's sake of course.... Wow, Perks are great s***:smile5:
  10. Does anyone have a front pillow tuffed seat laying around from a RSV they want to get rid of for a decent price, mine is coming apart and I dont want to replace it with something differant and I cant afford to have it recovered right now.
  11. well as i move forward will getting my bike roadworthy i'm researching seat improvements for my wife and i. i've been searching all over the site and see some info, but i thought i just start a thread to streamline the ideas. i have the 83 bike and it seems the rear seat is narrower than say some of the newer ventures. will the seats from the 86 1300 fit onto my 83 1200?? will they be more comfortable?? the rear seat looks like its wider and i think that will help my wife. i'm hoping to run 500 mile days with her and want to make it as nice as possible for her. i'm also interested in a back rest for myself and some kind of arm rests for the rear. let me know what works. i'm hoping to find some more economical comfort versions before i'd go all out russel day if you follow, but let me know what you guys think will help. i've seen some of the higher back rests on the mkII with little arm supports... will they fit onto my trunk or do i need the whole trunk and would that fit onto my first gen? thanks
  12. I am helping a friend get his 1986 Yamaha Venture up and running again. It's been sitting for 2 1/5 years. I need to remove the seat and for the life of me I cannot figure out how. It's embarassing but I just can't figure it out. Plese help
  13. just bought an 84 VXZ12: 1. need to remove the seat for a patch job - front lifts up a bit but i can't seem to get the seat off... please help 2. would like to take the hard bags off the sides and back to get the locks cleaned up and properly clean the bike... but can't seem to get them off either... please help.
  14. I'm usually one of those nut jobs that insists on riding the bike in any temperature provided the roads are free of snow and dry\free of ice. So it was 19 out when I left for work this morning. Jumped onto a frozen stiff seat. The mustang seat on my volusia would do this in cold temps as well, but was never more than a less comfortable ride. With the pillow seat of my RSV, it was a major pain in the a$$ in more ways than one. Not only was it not the usual comfy ride it, but it resulted in me being about an inch further from the ground than normal. Being just shy of 5'7, that extra inch really put me on my tipy toes. I hate winter.
  15. Hey guys, I need your input on an idea I came up with to provide a total seat solution that will allow you to remove both seats without any tools. For some time now several of us have come up with seat nut solutions that allow us to remove the driver seat without any tools. These have ranged from plastic nuts, wing nuts and my solution of using a nylon locking nut pressed and glued into a Press-Fit knob. But, this solution requires some extra assembly work where I have to drill out the center of the knob, tap threads into the nylon ring in the lock nut to the point of just the right friction on the seat bolt, and then glue and press this nut backwards into a press-fit knob, where the glue I use requires overnight to dry properly. Right now I have been selling my seat thumb nuts for $6 which includes postage to anywhere in the US. So for another $2, I could also provide a set of stainless press-fit thumb bolts. And putting these together is just a matter of pressing the stainless allen bolt into the same knurled knob and it's ready to go. So with both of these, you would have a total tool less seat solution. So if you don't mind, let me know what you think of this idea. I have attached a picture of both sets of seat nuts/bolts. Thanks, Rick And FYI 1st Gen owners....I already provide a total tool less seat solution for your bikes
  16. Anyone ever used this product ? If so, how is it?
  17. Director at gym found out I ride. Son-in-law got big mouth. Anywho he has a hardley softail. Claims the seat kills his softail after a few miles. Claims it has a Corbin on it now. Wants to know if I can steer him towards seat and is the AGM battery for these things the same as a 2nd Gem battery??
  18. does anyone know if I can put a backrest on my 99 factory seat. would like to have one that matches.
  19. Hi all, Today I picked up an 84 Venture Royale with 14K miles. Cosmetically she's a little rough so I will need to replace some things & add some bling. Is there a parts interchange manual published for this bike? Basically I need to replace some side panels & add some of the dress up trim. What years will be a direct bolt on to my 84? My immediate need is to replace the seat. I assume an 83 would fit, what others can directly replace mine? I appreciate any help especially on the seat. Thanks
  20. I have a guy who will make the brackets for fitting the Venture Drivers seat to a Tour Deluxe, Is there anyone out there that might be interested? The more I get made the cheaper it will be....
  21. This has been an issue for me since I purchased the bike in feb of 2011. the seat is just unbearable. I was planning on sending it to Butler to have it modded but the owner before me made some mods to the seat pan. Time has come( Tax return and bonus season) to set my sights on an aftermarket seat that will be comfortable for my wife and I. We dont do extensive trips but we dont want to hurts after 100 miles. I would like to ride 400 and not think twice about riding again the following day. Id liek some pros and cons from those that have Mustang, Corbin, Ultimate and although russel day long doesnt have one currently for the 96 rstc Id still like some feedback as it is now I am turning away from corbin because I have sat on a few and the seat I found very hard, although no soreness. i still would like someting a lil plush.
  22. Put the bike away today as it does snow once in a while here in Iowa. Rick I will be contacting you real soon for the seat modification that you have made famous!
  23. Well I decided to go to the darkside. Found that Discount Tire had to order the tire. When it came in their machines could not install on the MC rim. I took it to a MC shop and they mounted ok but could not get it to seat. Took it to Les Schwab (closest to house) and they tried a dozen time to get it to seat with no luck. They tried so much that it started to tear the rubber at the bead. What do I do now. Tire still on the rim but not seated. Do I return the tire (if I could), try to lube up the bead with petrolium jelly (figures less harmfull to the tire) or do I just have to go to a MC tire. Thanks for the help Wayde:bawling:
  24. ----- A man boarded an airplane and took his seat.. As he settled in, he glanced up and saw the most beautiful woman boarding the plane. He soon realized she was heading straight towards his seat ... As fate would have it, she took the seat right beside his.. Eager to strike up a conversation he blurted out, "Business trip or pleasure?" She turned, smiled and said, "Business. I'm going to the Annual Nymphomaniacs of America Convention in Boston " He swallowed hard. Here was the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen sitting next to him, and she was going to a meeting of nymphomaniacs. Struggling to maintain his composure, he calmly asked, "What's your business role at this convention?""Lecturer," she responded. "I use information that I have learned from my personal experiences to debunk some of the popular myths about sexuality." "Really?" he said. "And what kind of myths are there?" "Well," she explained, "one popular myth is that African-American men are the most well-endowed of all men, when in fact it is the Native American Indian who is most likely to possess that trait. Another popular myth is that Frenchmen are the best lovers, when actually it is men of Jewish descent who are the best. I have also discovered that the lover with absolutely the best stamina is the Southern Redneck." Suddenly the woman became a little uncomfortable and blushed. "I'msorry," she said, "I shouldn't really be discussing all of this with you. I don't even know your name.." "Tonto," the man said, "Tonto Goldstein, but my friends call me Bubba."..............................
  25. Hey Guys, I just got back from my last big ride of the year and I know that many of you up further north are getting ready to put your bikes up for the winter. So, I thought this would be a good time for this friendly reminder that if you are considering letting me rework your seat (s), don't wait until next spring when you are getting close to putting your bike back on the road. I have been reworking about a couple of hundred seats a year and usually I'm real busy during the winter months. However this past spring, I was absolutely covered up with seats for riders getting ready for that first ride of the year. It's not really a problem in that I can turn around several seats in a day, but it would be better to string them over a longer period. And while I'm on the subject, I thought I'd update some of you of the damage I have been seeing on all of the RSV seats (to include the early 99-2001 standard, Midnight and pillowtop) as follows: 1. All of these seat have cords in the cover that go through the foam and are tied off at the bottom of the foam with a plastic disc. The early and Midnight seats only have 3 of the cords that hold the seat down at the back of the seat and the Pillowtop has 9 that creat the pillow effect. The holes in the foam create a weak spot which makes the foam susceptable to tear between these points. 2. The foam at the nose of these seats is rather thin and is also susceptable to tears from the pressure of the seat pan. 3. I see many tears in the cover at the bottom edge of the seat right in the area of the seat nuts. This comes from using an open ended 10mm wrench to remove the nuts rather than a 10mm socket which tears the vinyl. When I repair these tears, I also sell you a set of my Butler Built thumb nuts so you can take your seat off without any tools so this will not happen again. In each of these cases, I repair the tears just as part of my service. I treat every seat that I work on like they are mine, so I address any issue I see in the seat. With tears in the foundation foam, I glue the tear back together with my spray contact cement and then reinforce that area with heavy duty duct tape (which works well). With the tears in the bottom edge of the cover, I glue a patch on the inside using a heavy vinyl of the same color. And the glue I use (Goop) is there to stay. Then for those seat pans with busted studs, I have found that I can drill and tap the stud base with a 6mm bolt from the inside and get your seat stud back. But, I do charge a small amount to fix this problem. And for those of you who are not familiar with what I can do for your seats, take a look at my ad in the Classifieds that explains what I do as well as everything you need to send me your seat (s): http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3738&title=butt-butler-seat-mod&cat=25 And like I said earlier, when you put your bike up for the winter, go ahead and send me your seat and don't wait until the ice is melting on the Mississippi River. And even though the word is getting out on me to other groups and referrals, I still am pretty much dedicated to the members of the VentureRiders (and your best kept secret). Thanks, Rick
