  1. I need some advice! My 2006 Venture has become hard starting when cold. I also notice that I don't hear the fuel pump when turning the key on. Once started it runs fine. Is there anyone out there who has had the problem or knows of a solution, or is it back to the shop for me? Thanks, Kenw
  2. Anybody around Las Cruces, New Mexico Interested in an 1964 Honda Dream, Restoration project. ??? Check out E-Bay Item # 320257765949. I used to work with this fellow, here in Seattle, He moved down to NM after we retired. I have seen the bike, its in what I would call Fair Condition, and it runs. Not a Gem!, but a very Restorable Bike, and the pieces are all there. At least the last time I saw it. back around 2001,

    Vin Number

    Hi all this is the first time I am posting i just have one little question yesterday i took position of a 1983 Venture i know that it would be first gen. I was told before I got this machine that it was the 2nd one off the line the last 4 of the Vin is 0101. thta would indicate that it may be the first. Is their any way to find out. It only has 38.8K miles and I would be the 3rd owner. It runs good just needs a little TLC Thanks
  4. I put a new battery in my 2003 Saturday. It seems it runs better with more acceleration. Is there any chance the two things are related?
  5. Hi, Thanks for the info on the "erratic fuel guage" found that the ground wire on the sending unit was bad. Now to my current problem: when I started the bike for the first time it ran poorly and would only stay running with the choke on. I have since changed the spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter and syncroniszed the carbs. The bike when cold runs bad(misses) when it warms up it does not respond well to throttle input and smells rich. If I hold the throttle at 3k rpms the bike has a miss that you can hear in the exaust. I have owned this bike for 4 years and it has always run great. Im stumped! Myrtle Beach is 3 weeks away and I was riding down and need to resolve this.
  6. I have been noticing a smell of gas after "getting on" the throttle. I don't notice this unless I really wind the bike out. Bike runs fine. Where should I start, a carb sync? Thanks.... Fred
  7. My 84 VR is sick. Several months ago it took a full choke before it would start and then it progressed to were it would only start when it was warm. (set out in the the sun) Now it will rarely start without a spray or two of starter fluid. I have followed many of the suggestions on this site and have replaced the plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, new gas, etc. I also tuned the carbs. Once it is warmed up, it runs fine but getting it started is a major pain. If I don't have a charger on, it will crank until the battery runs out unless I give it a shot of starter fluid. Previously, after it was running and warmed up, you could shut if off and it would restart immediately. Yesterday, after I had rode it for a hour or so, I shut it off but had a heck of time getting it going again. It took several seconds of cranking it before it started. Any suggestions on what the problem might be or what to check next? Thanks.
  8. this is what happened last fall I used a friends carbtune to set my carbs ever sense bike runs but runs like crud stalls when stopping or going slow. this all started after the carbtune tune up. so today what i did is a bit of parts buying i picked up 14 foot of 3/16 clear tubing and a pair of line restricters and some lite weight oil now on Wednesday I'm going to put it together and have a home made Man-O-Meter and then I'm going to find out just how good the carbtune really is or not at this point i have 9 bucks into my manometer and it should work just fine ill let you all know how it worked out next week when i get a chance to work on the bike with some luck ill get a day when it will hit the 40 deg. mark dray
  9. Does your bike have a sweet spot when riding long distances? The '83 just naturally runs perfect at 75mph. Edit: And.... oh yeah... Get's between 38-42mpg Gerald.
  10. This 86 has 97K on it but runs fair. It needs lots of tlc,steering head bearings,new rear tire, seat repair,etc. It pulls strong into the triple digits no slippage of clutch and brakes are good.All or part of it have to go.In the next 30 days I'm going to decide what to do with it. 1. sell it outright 2. part it out 3. partial part it out. lighten it up significantly and see what a rat venture looks like.I have a 89 engine with only 15k on it. I could install it just to see how it runs. This 86 still sounds good with 97K. 4. Buy some duct tape and run it. I bought this one last spring to part out. My brother wanted to try it out so he licensed it and rode it some last summer. He decided he was to short for it and has a problem with crossing my creek.Not many know how to surf on a first gen. Any ideas on what to do with it? No input from REDNECK either.:rotf:
  11. anybody looking for a Winter project. I still have the 83 standard and will let it go for 1200.00. Runs but needs work all over.
  12. Installed a 86-93 engine in a 83-85 frame? My 84 has a bad oil leak from 13 years of storage. The motor only has 23K on it and runs strong, shifts smooth, no 2nd gear problems yet. I have a 89 motor with only 15K. I would like to know how it runs. Can I swap the two with no problems using the 84 carbs,etc kind of a plug and play swap?This would let me clean up the 84 engine,repair the dry seals, and decide if I should attempt a early second gear fix before problems arise. I could reinstall the 84 engine later. Who knows the 89 might run good in the 84.
  13. Finally got everything connected to the engine and it started right up. That was testerday. ran fine. Today, it will start but only with full choke and only one cylinder firing. the tach works. the cylinder that runs is the right front. Any ideas???
  14. Started the bike up today for the first time in about two weeks, would not run without choke on. Check the air filters, changed the plugs still no help. Runs like on two cylinders. Anyone had this problem???? Any help is appreciated. Brent
  15. Lately I've noticed that my 83 cuts out at 6500, like it has a rev limiter. When it does this, the tach drops to zero until you let off the gas. No load, or 1st gear the same symptom. I havent torn into checking the wires or the TCI or anything yet, it still runs and drives fine. Any quick ideas? I'm sure its electrical since the tach drops like that..... PS I didn't see many Ventures at Wildwood NJ.....
  16. Greetings, I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I have a 86 Royale. I have been noticing lately when i goose the throttle their is a rattleing noise seems to be coming from underneath, or when I am going through the gears I hear it also. Checked bolts, fluids all ok. It is more noticable on the left side. Other then that it runs fine. Am thinking of going to Las Cruces in a couple of weeks . I was wondering if it is something I should be concerned with or if it could wait till I returned. Thank you . bossman:confused24:
  17. Well after all my coil problems, I finally took it to a local shop. At first he said it was the coil, (said I had replaced a bad coil with another bad coil), but after he switched the back coils, he said the good one would not fire and that it was a problem further up the line. Not the pick up coil or a switch, cause the bike runs, it just runs like crap. Surges and misses while riding on 3 cyl. I got a steal on ebay on 4 used coils and boots and a new ignition module. I'm gonna replace them this weekend and hopefully when I fire it up it will run right and keep on running right.
  18. I go by Moose-man. I have had my '99 since early 2001 and love it! I need advice from any Venture "wrench type" about a specific problem that I can't seem to solve. For 3 weeks now my nearly new battery runs down when I'm ridin' to about 3-4 volts and the bike quits. The stator, regulator and battery connections are all good. No idea where to go from here.
