  1. We'll be at Deadwood sunday July 3rd at 1:30 pm. Rocket and Rod will be here so this would be one way to have a group meet up with them from our area. Such a busy summer with Canadians, Australians, and Icelandic folk running about the states. Hope some of you can make it. I'm gonna post it to the calendar as well. Margaret
  2. This makes no sense at all. The PO installed running lights. a wire comes off the fuse block to a switch...then to the lights. Simple right? So why does turning on the running lights cause my sidestand warning to come on? Not right away....and not after any kind of predictable time. They come on after a random time period...but will stay on until I turn off the running lights. Turning off the running lights turns off the red warning light and computer graphic. Turn on the running lights and the warnings come back on...sometimes right away....sometimes not for quite awhile. When this warning comes on, it does not kill the engine( it works as it should when the side stand IS actually down) Its only a minor annoyance....but it's got me completely baffled!
  3. Rumor has it that Congressman Anthony Weiner is going to run for president. He has chosen Attorney General Eric Holder as his running mate. Get your Weiner-Holder bumper stickers early, before they are all gone
  4. Went out riding yesterday and on the way home ran slap into a major downpour:depressed: (***note to self: stop and don rain gear :doh:before you hit wall of water:rain2:) Anyway, stuff in the trunk and bags got wet, I know there is a "gasket" running through the lid, can these still be had and if so where? If not, what are the alternatives? Thanks
  5. Well, I managed to find a nice harley rear light unit off Ebay. Got the item and now for the wiring. I find that this unit has 1157 bulbs which of course means stop and running lights. The wires are only marked in the manner noted below. One is copper and the other is aluminum? Its silver anyway. So which would be stop and which would be running? Some one out there knows for sure.
  6. I came on to the bike at an intersection tonight, pounding through to third gear, and saw a little red light come on , on the lower left side of the instrument display. What was that? It only stayed on for a few seconds. then when I got home, the bike seemed to be running fast.
  7. I'm looking at replaceing my front tire with an E'3. I'm running an Avon on the back now, will this cause any problems? Also, where do you guys buy your tires? Thanks for help.

  9. I know there are mixed reviews on here, but... Friday, I changed out the coolant in my '03 RSV. When I was refilling it, I first added a half bottle of Water Wetter, that I purchased from Auto Zone. I then filled the system with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water. We went on a good ride yesterday, and the bike is actually running 20 degrees cooler than it was. I am very happy with it. Some may say Water Wetter does nothing, but I believe what I am seeing. I have a temp gauge on my bike, and it is definitely running 20 degrees cooler. http://www.redlineoil.com/Products.aspx?pcid=10
  10. Hello, After four years not running I have scraped together enough time and money to get my 84 Royale running if I buy one set of carb gaskets and cut the rest by hand. (3 kids in college) I am wondering were I might get the best price on a single set of carb gaskets *and* a single vacuum piston (buddy who is helping called it a 'slider'). Thanks very much. 11. Okay here is the story; Bike has been in the shop for several weeks 38 days to be exact, getting Ma Yamaha to finally fix the over heating issue which as we thought here back in January/Febuary that it was a bad head gasket. Okay they finally get it all back together and the service manager calls me to tell me it is not running good. Says running great on side stand, 1st and 2nd gear runs out fine but 3rd and up it acts as if it is starving for fuel. They are checking the vacuum lines, I told them to check the filter for clogs, and to check for contaminated fuel as it is the 10% ethanol that has been sitting in the tank. I researched here and that seems to be the normal advice, (I had a similar issue on my 03 VTX which was a fuel pump bike also and Turned out it was a clogged fuel filter. Would run fine the for no apparent reason it would shut down. It only did this if the bike was low on fuel. I first changed it over to a gravity feed system but that did not help, changed out the filter and that fixed it. I had put a new filter on and apparently it did not flow as well as the oem.) So can anyone here think of any other reasons that this may be occurring? I had recently sync'd the carbs, and was in the process of fine tuning the pilot's as I had put new pipes on the bike and it was running lean. but I don't think any of that would cause it to shut down like it is doing. Thanks
  12. Is there anyone that can tell me if there is a accessory pluge in so I can have running lights in the front that would come on when I have the key on and go off when i trun the key off Ron:whistling:
  13. Working as Motorcycle Marshal in MS-150 this weekend. Saturday after a long day of herding 'cats', my bike showed signs of a dead battery. Volt meter showed 10v on battery. Had been running about 200 miles at slow speed/low rpms. Jump started bike and headed to the freeway for some normal riding. Battery replaced a week ago just as preventive maintenance. Shut down all accessories and lights. Running at speed showed about 12v initially but continued to drop. Decided to make a run for home, about 100 miles. Made it home, battery voltage at only 8v. Guess the stator or regulator has failed. Off to the dealer for warranty repair on Tuesday. Horrible I was unable to participate in the second half of the MS-150...
  14. Thirdbike got me a set of carbs. I also learned that these are WAY harder to put on than take off. Two hours of disagreeing with them I had them on. A half hour later she was running. Just let it idle for about 2 minutes but that was all I needed. This sit and everyone here are great. Thank you all. Shaun
  15. So, my 87 project is running a bit rough so I do what any shadetree guy would do and I look down the carbs when the bike is running. I noticed that all the slides are vibrating at different rates with some more active than others. It this a balance thing? Might be shot diaphragms but on a machine this old as soon as I open the carb covers to check for pinholes the diaphragms will be shot because I opened up the chambers. Is there a visual diagnostic other than pulling the slides that indicates diapgragm condition? Letting sleeping dogs lie and all that...
  16. So I finally took the carb tune out of the box (That i received two months ago)and took a dive into Synching the carbs so I got er all hooked up, got er started and well?, (I can say that my first gen 84 venture royale runs like a champ with an estimated 65000 miles on her and only running on 3?, well we'll just say 2 1/4 carbs. I can hardly wait to run on 4 carbs that are all synched together.) so back to the post, I didnt actually get to synch the carbs today because i am now going to have to rebuild at the very least one carb #1 and since IM there I might as well go ahead and do them all. I hook it all up and started it and found 1 running at 0 #2 running at around 8 and 3&4 running at 35 or so. Has anybody else found this before? and is there an easier fix for now before rebuilding the carbs? Also, does anyone have the part # for the VMAX floats that work in the first genner carbs? Can I just say that I love my royale...... :225:Thank you all for your time. Mike

  18. I took off work yesterday at 3pm and stopped by the house and picked up my lady Linda, who had come over for a visit, and we took off down thru the country on one of those rides you dream about during the winter. I started off in a light jacket and ended up putting shorts on. The scenery, with all the budding trees and flowers was absolutely beautiful, especially with the clear air and the mountains all around us. At one point we saw 82º on the bike thermometer. It was one of those light traffic, bike running real good days along country back roads that are just made for easy riding and talking and sharing thoughts about the upcoming summer and camping and traveling on the bike. We snaked along roads that ran beside rivers that went from glistening pools to fast running white water. We saw fields of grass that are just beginning to get that bright green that is only in the early spring. I really feel fortunate to live in this part of the country where the weather is more moderate and people are so friendly. It is rare that when stopped that someone doesn't have something friendly to say, especially when you are on a motorcycle. I noticed that when I pulled the bike back into the garage that we had put 125 miles on it just to run out and get something to eat. RandyA
  19. Hey Guys!------I changed the "thermastat housing" and all the hoses on my 89 Royale and now it seems to be running "hot"---any ideas why this could be?---I have the plastic drain plug at the bottom of the radiator with the "off" mark at the "2-O-clock" position like someone on here said was the correct place for it-----It seemed to cool down some after I returned from the initial run and let it idle with the fan runnining------I actually revved it up to about 9000 rpm's one quick time to see if maybe something was stuck and the temp guage seemed to drop to about 3/4 way up (at least it was in the green area after I did that)----I used the same thermostat that came with the housing because it had only 29,000 mi. on it---Do you guys think maybe it was just kinda stuck?----i sure hope that's all it is:fingers-crossed-emo..................................................Larry
  20. The 4-way flashers on my 08 RSV are not working... Turn signals all work fine. Tried turning on the 4-ways with 1) The ignition turned on but the bike not running 2) The bike running I've looked at the service manual, and it appears that there isn;t a fuse or flasher unit specific to the operation of the 4-way flashers. Is it possible that the 4-way switch may have corrosion or simply be "bad"? So....once again...I turn the to wealth of knowledge located on this board! Suggestions?
  21. Has anyone put their lights on a switch so one can start the engine without the lights. Then once the engine is running, one can manually put the lights on. In this way one saves battery power in the event one needs to hit the starter more often than normal to get the engine running?
  22. Here is a pic of the view from our dining room window this morning. I counted nine but there may have been more than that. They played out there, having a good old time running back and forth for a couple of hours.
  23. I found some past articles in the various forums about these tiny beads inside the tire to smooth out the balancing, however they are a couple of year old information.. Has anyone been running with these beads in their tires repeatedly now for a few years who could let us know how's it been working out? Worth the while, make any difference? Cheers
  24. I have four brake light set up right now, I want to change the two, to running light instead ( the old Harley lights pictured. what color is the runnign light wire?

    Advice

Being mechanically inept I could use a little advice. When my son was visiting we went for a ride and he told me my right exhaust was blowing blue under hard acceleration. Today when I went to put the bike away for the winter I did my usual with the sea foam and fired it up to run the gas out of the carbs. There was a lot of blue smoke from the right exhaust and when I held my hand to it it was much hotter than the left one which was not blowing blue. After running for a couple minutes the blue cleared up and the exhaust cooled down. All pistons are running fine. Before I take it to the stealer next spring for a tune up I would like to get an idea of what is happening. Any suggestions?
