  1. was wondering if anyone has replaced their grips with aftermarket. the only ones i have found are by Avon, and run about 50.00. has anybody tried these? what size are the bars? http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/0/6/0/0/8/6/webimg/387609976_tp.jpg
  2. Anyone in the Central Florida area interested try to join the poker run for this little girl and her family Thanks in advance
  3. At 25,000 miles I bought new plugs for my 04 RSV, put them in the bike and went on about my way, ofcourse the bike did not seem to run any better. Well last weekend me and Deanna my daughter were going to ride to St Simons on Sat. so friday night with 31000 miles on the RSV I took the plugs out of the truck and actually put them in the motor. Bike ran much better then. We also found the right frount plug wire was not push down on the plug all the way You know these thing run pretty good on 3 cyls. and very smooth on all 4. 46.5 mpg on the trip, running between 65 and 70 mph. On the way back DeAnna's 06 v-star 1100, dropped the frount cyl, came home on the back cyl. wide open 55 mph. found the 1100 v-star have fuel shut-off valve like lawn mower to shut the fuel off to the needle valve in the carb. frount failed.
  4. the roads in illinois can be hard on things, especialy when the pavement buckles and your doing 60mph when you run into it.
  5. Last fall I had joined this site to get help with a problem and learn more about my new to me 2004 RSV. I had a problem with my RSV stumbling under a load and V7Goose gave me great advice on cleaning the carburetors and synchronizing the carburetors. I thought I had things working well, so I set out on a 3700 mile trip. On my way out things seemed good but after a couple days the problem returned. The engine vibrates badly under a load. This problem comes and goes; sometimes it would run ok and then others very bad. Most of my trip was at higher altitude and I thought maybe my problem was associated with that but it still did it on the way home. It acted worse in the heat but sometimes it would run ok in the heat. I ran in some rain and hail but most of the trip was dry. In 4th gear at 60mph it will still vibrate and in 5th gear at 70mph it vibrates if I ask for power. At 75mph trying to climb a slight grade on the expressway it struggles to maintain speed. This is a list of what I have done before the trip. 1) Removed carbs and cleaned 2) New spark plugs – twice 3) New spark plug caps – NGK only 5K ohms 4) Carb sync 5) Sea foam through tank. 6) New K&N air filters 7) New fuel filter If someone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. I really do like this bike, but this power plant I am unsure about. I may have never had it running good as I have never been impressed with the power, but my last bike was a GL1500 and that is what I am comparing it to. If I could just get this thing to run smooth I could deal with the fact it is less powerful than my old GL. Thanks in advance
  6. Any one from Anaheim, Fullerton, Brea, Yorba Linda, or Placentia, California area remember Fairway Yamaha? Bought my '84 Venture Royale there, then they went out of business around '86 or '87. If I remember correctly, I paid $6,800 for it. Rode it until 2004. I still have the license plate bracket, but it doesn't look right on my Wing. Just went through a bunch of stuff looking for a souvenier shirt from the Barstow to Vegas run Thanksgiving weekend 1985. Could not find it, guess it must have shrunk to the point it's too small. I do have the patch and pin from the ride. Had a buddy from Ohio come out on a '85 Gold Wing and we did that run together. Of course he was upset that I could out-quick, out-speed, out-handle him, and get about 2 miles per gallon better mileage. Yes, those were the days, my friends. My buddy died last summer, had not seen him or communicated for years. Lost opportunities. Only motorcycling can invoke this kind of memory and now cause one to reflect and vow to try to make the most out of the days we have yet remaining. Mel
  7. Finally decided that I was going to the Davis Rally in New Hampton IA. :dancefool: Just going down early Saturday morning and headed back Sunday afternoon. Maybe these guys aren't as rowdy as that PIP bunch! I hope I don't run into any new traditions from the east coast. :whistling: Bongobob did go home..... didn't he????? :moon:
  8. My 83 will not run with the sidestand down with the bike in neutral with clutch out. If I pull the clutch in just a little bit, it will run. It acts this way with two different CMS's and sidestand switches. When I put it in neutral, the light comes on as it is supposed to, so it appears it is getting power through the shifting mechanism. Any suggestions? RandyA
  9. I've just encountered a possible problem with my 2005 Sea Doo RXP. It has only 59.6 hours on it. I bought new back in 05 and have never had a problem with it. I run it almost completely out of gas and engine mist it every year before storing. Being busy this year didn't get a chance to ride but figured I'd better start it. Added 1 can of sea foam to approx 1/2 gal of gas to clean fuel system and let run for 2 min. Then added 2 gal of fresh gas... wouldn't start, so i depressed throttle and thats when I heard a loud bang??? sounded like an inner tube exploding Smoke is coming out from under seat? Took plastic topper off and dip stick removed spark plugs cleaned with wire brush and carb cleaner dryed out using map gas tourch, coated threads with antioxidant. Before installing plugs placed my palm over holes and had compression. Reinstalled plugs and it started up (i shut down after 10 seconds) as i was afraid something was wrong with all the smoke coming from the engine compartment... Can see no oil or coolant in hull of ski and the dipstick has clear oil on it? Cant find the source of the smoke and don't want to run it like that... Any thoughts would be appreciated... Thanks in advance, Joe Thinking about tearing her apart and inspecting the Superchargers ceramic washers. May also find the source of smoke when I do? Will also take front oil pump off and check impeller and screens for debris... Until today, I never knew you should replace creamic swashers on the supercharger with metal ones... not having very good luck with engines...
  10. wHAT SPEED do you run your trike in 5th gear? It seems like mine will run 45 in 5th without problem.IT WOULDN'T do it on two wheels.Does anyone think it would get better gas mileage if I woul run it in a lower gear

    toy run

That time of year again. Gearing up for the annual toy run. I am Santa again and leading the run. For anyone interested google Saltspring toy run for info. We have camping, games, beer garden, etc. Lamb roast and music by Auntie Kate. We raised a lot for underprivliged kids last year and this year is looking even better. Sept 3rd is the run. Got groups coming on the 2nd for camping and staying until the 4th.
  12. I finally got to ride the scooter today, actually took it around a few blocks Thursday to check it out. Somewhat rushed getting it together so I could ride with my cousins and other friends to a bike show at a HD dealer near here. Didn't know they were going to have a dyno setup, for free none the less. I really wasn't ready for a dyno run yet, but the price was right. I haven't synced carbs on bike, mixture screws are close & the TCI still needs dialed in, but I went for it, how embarrassing could it be in front of a 100 HD riders. Was a slight problem hooking dyno up to bike. I don't have plug wires anymore so they couldn't hook tach sensor in. I went to Coil Over Plugs this winter. Without the VBoost activated it hit 97 RWHP, that sucks, last year I had 96 RWHP. Activated the VBoost and it hit 108.96 RWHP. That's 11 more HP with pressing a button. I think with tuning and getting it dialed in 120RWHP is doable. I have located a guy that will bring me into his shop & work with me on setting jetting and fine tuning this thing on a dyno for a reasonable rate. I am close to that point. Didn't get a print out of the dyno, they didn't have a printer set up. I got a mostly unreadable cell phone picture of screen, my cousin is going to email me his attempts at picture when he gets home. At least I didn't embarrass myself totally. My cousin said some of the HD guys were in disbelieve of the numbers. Also, got caught in a hail storm while we where out. Dove for cover in a strip mall under a over hanging store front. Gary
  13. :fingers-crossed-emoThe rear brakes are bled and are working pretty good.I seem to still have to pump them once to get super braking, but just hiting them does the job.I did the I.V. bottle trick I'd seen here long ago...I bookmark the problems I'd think I might be running into. Thanks to all that gave real good advice. Now I seem to have run into another problem.Keep in mind that I haven't rode this bike regularly,I usually rode the 89. I'd take the 84 out on occation ..maybe 4/5 times for a 30 mi. ride. Now, once it gets warmed up, it wants to stall at stops. It doesn't do it all the time. The last time I had it warmed up,I'd gotten back home an in the garage and it stalled there.I started it back up and went to rev it up and it wanted to shut off like it was out of gas each time I cracked the throttle. At idle I cracked the throttle a couple of times and each time it wanted to stop. As long as I kept it above 2000RPM it wouldn't bog down when the throttle was cracked.I've run seafoam thru it( half a can per tank) and still does it. Any advice on what might be the problem?
  14. My trailer weighs 156 lbs. It has 12 inch tires. It calls for 60 lbs of tire pressure Max. Since it will never weigh over 250 or 275 lbs loaded, should I run 60 lbs or can I run less air pressure? I don't want to run anymore than I need to be safe. Thanks Richard
  15. Just trying to think ahead a little. Would you guys and gals who joined us for the last one, and to anybody who would like to join in on all the fun for the next Leaf Looker Run, be interested in doing it on the first weekend of October? Last fall we did it on the second weekend and I kind of thought that we may have missed the peek a bit. Also, I have to work that weekend, If we can do it the first weekend than I only have to take off one day. Either way, I CAN"T WAIT! Apple orchards, VR members, and brats, OH MY! Thanks, Bill

    I'm baaaack

I have been out of circulation for some time now. bike is running fine, but since I am on the road every week with this new job when I get home I am just plum tired and I doubt the bike has run 100 miles this year yet. It runs - I can't! so at least I can get back on the forum and catch up with all the craziness running around. Stay cool and ride safe.

  18. I got my hands on an old emac 6.4 computer running OSX 10.4.11 that I want to set up for a 5 year old and I'm having a hard time finding educational software that will run on this old platform. If anyone has software for an old Mac OS gathering dust in a box somewhere I'd be interested in it. Thanks for looking.
  19. My 83 venture I just got on the 4th missed and did not run smooth. Two cans of seafoam got it running great. My wife dont always run smooth. I wonder? I am sold on sea foam. I will put a 1/4 of a can in every fill up. Have a good day:backinmyday:
  20. Back in my yoot I used to work part time in a discount membership store in the sporting goods dept. Kinda like White Front.. K-Mart.. Fedco.. etc. Anyway we used to sell firearms and one of the rifles we stocked was a Mannlicher Schonauer. I fell in love with that rifle. Just married, kid on the way, and working two jobs 80 hours a week to make ends meet, and I just couldn't afford one. Slow forward 50 years... In the last few years I'd run into one or two at auction, but they went for big bucks. Finally nailed one down last week. She's a beauty and I can't wait to get'r home.... It's in DOJ limbo for another 7 days. Next monday..
  21. Hello everyone, I am the proud new owner of a 1983 Yamaha Venture Royale. I bought this bike from a co-worker that had ridden it up until about 10 months ago. It has since been sitting in his garage unused. He says that it was running kind of poor, so he did some 'fiddling around' with the carburetors, and then it wouldn't run at all. That's of course when he stopped riding it. It was no surprise that it would not run for me when I got it home. I decided to give the carburetors an overhaul. I completely dismantled them, soaked them in carb cleaning solution, blew out all the passageways, and replaced all gaskets, o-rings and damaged diaphrams. After re-assembly, I balanced them by sight on the workbench and got them back on the bike. I was relieved when the bike started, but after warming up, repeated attempts to take out the choke fail. It will run just fine with the choke on full up to 2500RPM or so. I read that these bikes don't like to run without the airbox, so I installed that and encounter the same problem. I have tried backing off the choke while very gradually increasing the idle via the idle adjuster, no luck. Any hint of throttle and this thing dies immediately. I know about the seafoam fix, but I would assume that since I thoroughly cleaned the carbs, I shouldn't need to use the stuff. Even if I missed a couple of the passageways I would expect it to run better than this. The only thing that I skimped on were the two rubber plugs at the bottom of each jet block. They were mostly hard, and probably not providing good seals. I couldn't find replacements for these, so I left them as-is. I haven't the slightest idea of why these are there in the first place. Could these be causing my problem? Any other ideas? I am by no means a mechanic, so I could be missing something obvious. Thanks for any help you can provide. -Dave
  22. I went by the new Yamaha shop going in on St Rt 801 here in Rowan county today. It looked as if it wont be long till grand opening. I have not heard anything on the radio yet though. Will post when it opens for business. It is at the St Rt 801 to Cave Run Lake exit from I-64. It is only 1/4 mile from the interstate. I heard that they will also be selling Honda. Fuzzy
  23. I have 08 RSTD what you think about what I carry for air pressure? I run 36 frt and 42 rear. Star4772
  24. Last July we buried my mother in law. About a week later, some old friends of ours lost their 14 year old son to a gun accident. He was a good kid, and had many friends. The funeral was huge. Fast forward to April 27th of this year, and we had roughly a dozen tornadoes touch down in our area in a single night, including two EF-4's. Everybody here knows someone that was affected. Chad and Edwienna, Logan's parents, and Billy Jack, a long time local tattoo artist, came up with the idea of a poker run to both memorialize Logan and benefit a family that lost everything in the Glade Spring, VA EF-4 tornado. They did it on short notice, only two weeks, and were able to get over 100 bikes to come out for the ride. At the end of the day they were able to present the benefit family with over $2000 in much needed cash. Everybody had a good time, and all bikes made the ride with both wheels down (except for one parking lot drop when a divot in the asphalt caught a front tire - no damage, though). http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00501.jpg (some of the bikes gathering at Billy Jack's Tattoos before the ride) http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00507.jpg (Panoramic shot of the first stop. We lost 15 Patriot Guard riders here. They had to attend a brother's funeral) http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00508.jpg (Second stop) http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00511.jpg (Pic of the third stop at the local biker bar - this ended up being the longest stop... http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00502.jpg (Just really liked this bike. Rider's son is disabled and in a wheel chair. He had a rack for the chair on the other side.) The wife has always been against motorcycles, and has always pretty much hated that I ride. I'm not sure how, but Edwienna talked her into making this run with us. We went out last week and picked out a helmet for her, and I took her for a short ride on Saturday to let her get a feel for it. Then she made the entire ride with me yesterday. She had a blast! She was amazed by the number of bikes, and really liked it when she realized that bikers make their own damn rules. She thought that it was awesome that we had road guards who would fall out and block traffic at intersections, and the looks on peoples faces when over 100 Harleys rode past. If you think one HD is loud, try 100+ in a line a half a mile long! http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00503.jpg (The wife waiting for the ride to begin. See her pretty pink-flamed helmet on the seat? She insists on calling it a "bucket.") I think she is hooked http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00512.jpg (Had to include a pic of my bike for good measure)
  25. Does anyone know of any product that can be put on the windshield to help it shed rain? I checked Rain-X and on the bottle it says to not use it on plastics. During our upcoming trip, if we run into a lot of wet weather, would be nice if I could see out of the windshiels...and my helmet visor. Thanks.
