  1. Does anyone have an original Sec Gen radio antenna available? The first owner replaced it, for a short rubber radio antenna...and I like to replace it for an original antenna.
  2. If, on your lower cover on a '04 or later, your outboard screw standoff is cracked, your can substitute the spring nut from a '99 and the screw will have something to bite. While changing my antifreeze I noticed the standoff that holds the rubber nut was cracked. No way was it going to re-assemble. But the older 2 gens use a spring nut instead of the rubber nut. I figure as long as the engine guard braces have been installed, there shouldn't be a problem with the hard mount.
  3. I found a leak on the front caliper today, and took the caliper off, cleaned off all the gunk and had a look at it. I couldn't see any place where it was leaking, so I split the sides, the rubber washers were good, so I reassembled them with a bit of anaerobic sealant out side the perimeter of the rubber washers as some added assurance. Bled the brakes and everything works. Are there typical places that I sould double check that would leak on this?
  4. I recently purchased replacement braided SS hydraulic lines (front brake and clutch) and plan to install them as soon as we get some lousy weather - perhaps this weekend. I was having a look at the stock setup and noticed that the rubber lines run inside a soft rubber sheath for part of the run. Is it necessary to keep this sheath to protect the plastic covered SS lines? Any tricks or things to watch for while making the swap. Any issues or major dis-assembly needed to run the lines (I haven't had a really good look yet). I don't have speed bleeders or a vacuum pump so I am hoping I don't run into trouble getting all of the bubbles out! Thanks Ross
  5. Hey all, I purchased a new 6 disk cd changer on ebay for my 06 venture but the thing doesn't have instructions on how to install it on my bike. It looks to have the rubber mounting bracket to go in the side compartment. anyone know where to find some detailed instructions on how this mounts? Thanks!
  6. Well i made it thought Skype it was great to hear from the few of ya over it, keep the rubber side down and keep the pictures coming:dancefool:
  7. Does anyone know where to get the same style of connector that comes stock on the RSV. I want to create a small custom patch cable in between the bikes connector (DIN-5) and my headset connector. (also DIN-5) I need both male and female connectors. I want the rubber shrouded style. I'll also take info on a non-rubber connector that will fit "completely" into the stock connectors (both male & female), but I prefer the rubber style. Thanks.
  8. Can tips/ends be put on the Venture mufflers?? If so, which are recommended:confused24: I want the end of the mufflers to face DOWN a bit, due to there being a plate directly behind them on the trike conversion that may over time get heat damaged. (It covers the springs at the back) Also the rubber end of my crutches will sit near there while I ride. Don't want to pull up and find a burnt crutch!! The smell of burning rubber would put the wind up me anyway!! (is it bike trouble)
  9. I have this hose end sticking out of the left hand side of my 88 VR ( California edition. It comes from within the engine's V, and is on off-shoot of a vertical rubber hose. It one of 2 or 3 hoses that come off of it. http://greenagain.smugmug.com/photos/544914635_X9TH3-M.jpg That is my finger pointing back towards where the hose comes from. http://greenagain.smugmug.com/photos/544914681_nnjfC-M.jpg http://greenagain.smugmug.com/photos/544914639_DkuYx-M.jpg
  10. Well I ordered a tank bib from "Talisman Leather products" in Canada. Good people to work with and the product is well made. $105. CDN / $92.95 U.S. for studded. Got it put on but had to remove both cable holders for it to fit proper. After that I just did not care for the cable being put back on the tank with the little rubber holders. I got with my sister and this is what we came up with. I could not have done it without her. She works with leather a little but this was her first attempt at something like this. I have the little rubber holder put on with two sided tape. What ya think? Have a great 4th of JULY.
  11. I came across this information while looking for other stuff and I have never heard this procedure or tool mentioned in regards to carb sync. Can anyone comment on this? The later models of Yamaha (1982 & newer) use a YICS ( Yamaha Induction Control System) which is basically a vacuum balancing system in the intake manifold. A gallery is located just below the intake passages connecting all four intakes together via small air passages (approx. 1/8" ) the gallery itself is approx. 3/8" in diameter and 16" long on the 1100's. ( one of these days I'll convert to metric )To balance the carbs and set the idle mixtures properly the YICS must be rendered deactive so a true vacuum can be established. A special tool is required to seal the YICS passages while this adjusting is going on. The tool incorporates three rubber hose sections to act as seals, they are located in such a way as to isolate the passages from each other. To use just remove the gallery plug, it's located on the left side of the engine just below the carburetor inlets, should be 12mm. Slide the tool all the way in until the fender washer come in contact with the tube. Now while holding the bent part of the treaded rod tighten the wing nut till firm. Hook up your gauges or carb sticks. Start the engine and allow to warm up. It is normal for the engine to idle slower than normal so you may have to increase the idle speed to 1000 - 1200 rpm. Now proceed to adjust the idle mixture on each carb for maximum rpm. should be approx. 1- 1/2 turns out. Sync. the carbs for even intake vacuum balance. Shut down and remove the gauges & YICS tool tighten the gallery plug to 100 inch pounds ( firm but not gorilla ) reset the idle speed and your finished!! How it works, tightening the wing nut squashed the rubber hose sections and causes them to grow in diameter sealing against the gallery walls. the section closest to the wing nut is positioned directly under the #1 cylinder passage sealing this on from #2,3&4 the second seal is set between #2&3 isolating these two and the end seal is between #3&4 so intake vacuum is now independent and not shared by the other cylinders. BTW the YICS system helps the cold start back fire that the non-Yics machines are prone to. You can achieve similar results on the older machines by connecting the carbs together. just get some rubber gas line and two tee connectors remove the rubber plugs from the balance tubes and hook the four carbs together using the tees on #2&3 and the rubber hose. You'll notice a slightly faster and smoother idle.
  12. I went to www.rammounts.com and was redirected to www.gpszone.com. after speaking to a representative to confirm which parts matched this is what I was sent. Holder needed was "Medium" 4" x 6" x 1.75" (This was base on my GPS Unit dimensions, yours might be larger or smaller). ZRMHOLAQ6 Medium Aqua Box, $42.07 Mount needed was for a 1" Handel Bar ZRMB149Z-202, $28.82 Shipping was UPS 3 days $10.42 The Medium Aqua Box came with 3 self adhesive anti vibration foam pads for different thicknesses that can be added or eliminated depending on the thickness differences of Holder Aqua Box and your GPS. I then used the "Clear Rubber" face cover that allowed user to use the "Touch Screen" of the gps. I had to drill a hole in the bottom to get the power cord into the Holder Aqua Box to power the GPS. I suspected the "Clear Rubber" face cover would be less than ideal so off I went on a test ride. Yes I was right the Clear Rubber face cover was a cleaver idea but the distortion was so bad I had to spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME NOT WATCHING THE ROAD!!! Secondly th GPS was bouncing off the bottom of the Aqua Box Holder (NOT GOOD)!!! This is where the MODIFICATIONS come in. 1). Added Velcro (hooks) to the anti vibration foam pad. 2). Expoxy Velcro (loops) the the back of GPS Unit (make sure not to cover the speaker). 3). Replaced the Clear Rubber face cover with a PLEXIGLAS cut out and used a small bead of silicon to seal it in place. Now I can quickly glance at the screen and get a VERY CLEAR PICTURE from GPS Screen and the VELCRO keeps the GPS Unit suspended and not bouncing around. YES I realize I gave up the ability to use the Soft Clear Rubber Face Cover but when I think about it I always SET the GPS then drive and never would try to make GPS changes while driving anyways. Here are the Pics: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k249/frogmaster_2006/venture_gps_ram_mod004.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k249/frogmaster_2006/venture_gps_ram_mod003.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k249/frogmaster_2006/venture_gps_ram_mod002.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k249/frogmaster_2006/venture_gps_ram_mod005.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k249/frogmaster_2006/venture_gps_ram_mod006.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k249/frogmaster_2006/venture_gps_ram_mod001.jpg I would call this water resistant and NOT water proof. Enjoy
  13. I am looking for a handlebar damper for the left side of a 2nd gen. Mine apparently decided to exit stage left yesterday. Don't really want to spend $24+ to the dealer. It would be great if someone in the Dallas area has one so I could just pick it up. Yamaha is sure proud of their rubber parts, as I spent $14 to replace the ring around the ignition switch.
  14. My '83 is getting a little damp around the top of a couple cylinders at the rubber gasket. Anyone replace these before? Any gotchas to expect? Anything else I can check out while I'm in there? Thanks in advance. D
  15. I'm looking for the little rubber holder that sits on the gas tank that holds the cord for the headset. Anyone have one they'd be willing to part with?
  16. Well, with all the nice weather approaching, and plans for rides in the making, I was checking over my bike, looking for anything amiss. And I found it. In reality it is not a big deal, but I will tell you what it is. I have been trying to dress up my 2006 RSTD since I bought it new last year. I have added many chrome bits, for safety reasons of course. ISO grips, LED tail light, chrome shifter pegs etc. And a chrome rear brake pedal. You can see the attached picture. It is chrome, with 3 rubber strips for traction. Well, 1 of the rubber strips has come off, and is lost and most likely lonely and scared along the side of some random road in Ontario. I noticed this today. I checked the other 2 strips, and they are hanging on by the slightest of threads it feels like. I will certainly have to remove them before my next ride. Now, the brake pedal will still function without the rubber strips I am sure. But here is the thing. I went to check the site that I bought the pedal from, to see if they still had them in stock, I was going to complain, and ask for a replacement, or see if it qualified for warranty. But I noticed something. On the same page the pedal is listed on, there are replacement rubber strips and glue available. What strikes me is, the rubber is NOT designed to fall off I am sure, but it happens so often, that they sell replacements, should Yamaha not redesign it so that this common problem is solved, rather than "re-sell" a fix? Do you know what I mean? It is clear from the 1 missing piece, that the adhesive does NOT stick to the highly polished chrome coating. If I do decide to buy replacements, do you think I should just scuff up the area covered by the rubber with a dremel or is there a better way to adhere it? I am going to remove the other rubber pieces later, and who knows, maybe I will like the look of solid chrome. I am not sure if I will noticed the lower traction, but I cannot see my foot slipping off the brake pedal. What do you think I should do? Ask for a replacement, or just suck it up and buy the replacement rubbers and glue? Sonny
  17. The rubber pieces that join the carb to the head are dry rotted. Would this be causing my popcorn exhuast under decel. Also is there any quick fix to them besides replacing them?
  18. Does anybody know if the 1.5 inch riser inserts (the ones that stack on the stock risers) will work on the 99 Venture? I see there are 2 rubber spacers between the handle bars and the faring. If I raise the bars the rubber spacers will no longer make contact with the bars. Is this a concern? And is there an alternative aside from purchacing new handle bars?
  19. I need to find out if I can get replacement rubber strips for my floorboards on my 99 Royal Star Venture. Pictures below: http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f357/scottnsteph/20090316_0341.jpghttp://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f357/scottnsteph/20090316_0343.jpg
  20. I've seen posts that say " if the wind deflectors aren't touching the shock, the brackets will break". How do I adjust them??? On the right side, I can put my finger between the rubber bumper and the shock. The left is closer...but not touching. Thanks again. you folks are the BEST!!!
  21. The two rubber hoses going from the carb to intakes are cracked, only on the right side. Seems to be causing a miss. Checked the plugs too = at 20,000 miles= they looked new. Whats the trick to removing the two inside bolt monts. These outflow hoses are rubber mounted on a metal base with two connecting bolts, all one piece. I removed the fins for bolt access and cannot get to the inside bolt. Learned the hard way not to remove the cooling hose in the center to get access. there is no room for the allen wrench and no room to turn it.
  22. Anyone have one of the little rubber bumpers that plug into the underside of the RSV seat laying around that they'd be willing to part with? Maybe someone with a parts bike? (YA22W-24741-00-00 PAD, SEAT). I can order one, but with tax + S&H it ends up being about $7.50...kinda spendy for a chunk of rubber...
  23. I bought my 09' about 3 weeks ago and the bike comes without the cd player installed. The dealership has to order the players and then install it for you all on yamaha's bill. My CD player is now in at the dealer and I was thinking of just picking it up and selling it off before it ever comes out of the box. It comes with a storage bracket and a rubber isolation case to go around the player. What I am looking for is a picture of the CD player installed in the right saddle bag like it is suppose to be on the 09'. Can anybody help?
  24. I installed Baron's risers on the new Venture, easy to install, comfortable riding position now.. However, now concerned about the shroud / fairing's rubber mounts not touching the bars, basically leaving the top of the fairing unsupported.. Is there any real concerns about this or did I miss something in the installation process about those rubber mounts? Cheers!!
  25. Hello to all and a big thank you in advance for the replies to my questions. I have an 84 venture royale and need to have the seat reapolstered so I am wondering, is the seat so comfortable due to the ergonomics of the seat or the cushioning:icon_smile_question So when I have er redone should I replace the cushioning as well and if so what cushioning should be used:icon_smile_question Thanks again and keep the rubber on the road. Michael
