  1. Well, I'm waiting for my RSV seats to get back from Rick Butler and my clutch kit from Earl. No problem...got my Triumph "summerized" on Sunday and took her for a quick shakedown cruise. Seems OK but steering seemed a bit heavy even though I had checked the tire pressure. OK, something to check for the next time. Went out to use her today and quickly realized that the front tire is nearly flat (2 season old Michelin with only about 7,000 km)...what the...? Checked more closely and discovered that the tire valve is split and nearly falling off. I had forgotten to ask for new valves when the tires were installed in July /2010 and it seems most shops don't do it automatically. So...I get to pull off the wheels and bring them in to have new valves installed (At $34 per wheel!) and, as a bonus, they won't try to save my Dyna Beads, so those will have to be replaced later, by me. AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH! 10 bucks says the 55 F + temps we've been having will disappear by the time I can get this done or get my RSV parts in/back. As before....AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH! Andy
  2. wan't to go to syn oil in my 08 RSTD. I used ames oil in my RSV should I stick to the same it seem to done good on RSV. What weight for ames syn oil for summer. I can't remember what I used before. Any help? Joe
  3. In case you know Al in Jacksonville FL I bought his 07 RSV and drove it back to my home today north of Atlanta GA (about 370 miles) My first time to drive one (I've been riding a honda vtx1300). I've been looking into getting an RSV last 6 months or so. Main reason for the RSV was a better ride for the wife, and a few extras for me (cruise control, radio, etc.) bike did great. Drove back roads to get used to it before I got on the interstate, didn't take long, good part of the way back is state highway anyway. I was double extra cautious, didn't want to be famous for wrecking a bike bringing it home. (I know of a guy that did that one time, poor fella) My first impression of how the RSV rides is what you might get if you were to mate a vtx with goldwing, seemed to have traits of both. Got some minor adjustments here and there to make it fit me better, looking foward to many miles on it and I know where to come if I need help with it.
  4. RSTD is a 06 with 13K, my RSV is a 99 with 56K. Got the RSV thinking I could get the wife to ride, but to no avail. Loved the engine so I found a RSTD midnight instead. Love it! Just sold my 03 Honda Sabre to an Afgan Vet. He's very happy now. It's a good bike too. Served me well. Anybody need a 99 RSV in great shape in Virginia?
  5. I rode this wonderful RSV and was about to put down the $4,500 for this *****in bagger. My brothers friend wanted me to try his 05 Royal Star Tour Deluxe. What a difference. The front end on the Tour was so responsive and the bike seemed so powerful. He does solo long hauls and uses a kuryaykn gran tailgater. Then he stripped down the Tour without the windows and back seat and it was a very neat looking bike. So I went back and tried the RSV and it was a heavy feel but and decided the Tour was more my style and versatile for our next Mexico Yellowstone adventure. Thanks to all. Do they let Tour owner on this site? Normax

    Needed

If anyone out there has a RSV trunk mounting bracket I need one. let me know and see if we can cut a deal. Thanks Joe
  7. My cousin in Arizona wants to sell me his 02 RSV for $4,500. He rode it on long hauls, garaged and maintained it well and it has 68,000 miles. It looks crisp with no rips, cracks and the clutch whine is overcome by higher rpm. It has no issues I can see but at that mileage I know the saleability is zero after me. It is a beautiful bike feels very comfortable and study. I am very tempted as this beautiful bagger could haul me frame (6'2" 250) through Arizona, Mexico and the mountains. Are these RSV as bullet proof as he claims and the value seems well worth it. My present bike is a Road King which I will no longer take on long hauls and will sell if I move over to metrics. BTW it has been awhile since I saw who'is behind me in the mirrors with the Royal Star drive Any input would be greatly appreciated. Your input will probably make me decide one way or the other Thanks Normax
  8. I'm getting new rubber soon (just hit 18K on the front and 13K on the rear) and am considering going whitewall on the '99 RSV. I have the green/grey paint scheme, and have always just had blackwalls, but I am curious as to how the RSV looks with both wide and/or thin whitewall's on them. If you have pics of your RSV with a whitewall tire, please post so I can get a feel for how it looks. Don't care about the brand of tire (God knows we don't need THAT discussion again!), but just how it looks vs. a blackwall. Thanks!
  9. Has anyone ever seen where someone has changed a RSV trans to chain drive? I think the v4 would make a cool engine for a project bike.
  10. Can't seem to find a thread on this. Does anyone use engine ice as their coolant in the RSV?
  11. Guys if I dont get rid of these my wife is gonna go over the edge, look at these in the classifieds under RSV and RSD and make me a decent offer, they have got to go from behind my couch.
  12. I too decided to leave the Venture behind after nearly 1 year. I tried with all my heart and sole to love this bike so I wouldn't be buying something else but it didn't work. The bike was great on the interstate, but due to the weight and top heavy feel it was not happy on the city streets. It was the most comfortable cruiser I have ridden. I did have a Royal Star Tour Deluxe in 1998 and a Road Star Silverado in 2001 and a Road King Classic in 2007. Out of these cruisers the RSV is the most comfortable. In 2007 I bought an FJR and was in heaven for 2 years. I told my wife I wouldn't ride anymore. Sold it and didn't ride for 1 year then begged to buy another FJR in 2009. I couldn't find anything except a Concours 14 ABS. I bought it but was never happy with it like I was with the FJR. Front brake rotors had to be replaced under warranty and then after 2,000 miles they started grabbing once more. I then traded it on the 2011 RSV. Thought I would be happy, but I couldn't take it. I like the nimbleness of the FJR and it being so much lighter and easier to handle. I find myself so excited about riding again. I think if I had never riden the FJR I would have been ok. It simply spoiled me! Thanks for all the help and answering the few questions that I had. I did enjoy being on this forum and having questions answered without me even asking. Elcorbs

    horns

Bring up another old topic: horns I am looking at the RIVCO air horns from Buckeye. They apparently install on the swing arm of the 2nd generation RSV. Mine is a 2001 RSV. Have any of you had any experience with these horns ie ease of install, life span, mainteance etc.? Thanks all Jinx
  14. I finally picked up my next project bike on Saturday. It is a 2003 RSV. Im building a custom bike out of it. It came with a scratch free widshield that i want to put on my 2005 RSV. The only problem is there is writing on it from the salvag yard. It appears like a wax pen or something like that. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience removing the writing without damaging the screen. I have tried soapy water with no luck. I have been using BON AMI glass cleaner and it is slowly removing the yellow marks but has little effect on the orange writing. Any thoughts?

  16. A friend of mine just bought a 2000 RSV. He ask me if the turn signals, front and back, are suppose to act as running lights also? On my 2007 RSV the turn signals act as running lights. Any thoughts?
  17. For this exercise assume two RSV's. RSV A is a 2007 and cost $9,000. RSV B is a 2000 and cost $5,500. Both have similar mileage. Both well maintained. You can afford to buy either. Which would you choose?
  18. i looked at one of these today in lexington ky,never thought i'd like them but i was really surprised it very well made tho the seating is different then the rsv i think after getting use to the angle it might be more comfortable, going back for a test drive the firsd the roads are dry, might make a good stable mate for the rsv. has anyone else tried these out:Venture:
  19. I am looking for a stock horn for my 2008 RSV. I have adjusted the one on the front, behind the left fairing. It is somewhat louder now. The one near my right side is sick / dead!! I would like to purchase one from someone on this site who no longer needs theirs, or has repalced them with an air horn. Thanks for any help you can offer. Charlie Flory 804-731-4474
  20. Anyone have one chrome wheel trim hub from their RSV laying around they dont need? I need the non-weighted side. This is the hub that bolts over the front brake rotor. Thanks, Jeff
  21. Here is a pretty darn good video showing the installation of the Mic-Mute on a Honda Goldwing. Many of us here have the Mic-Mute on our Royal Star Ventures and I honestly think that it is one of the best things you can do to improve the audio system on these bikes. The installation is obviously different on the RSV but the components and operation is pretty much the same. On the RSV, you have to split the fairing but it's really a pretty simple installation. Also, we already have the passenger push to talk switch. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvBfCKVT_PM&feature=player_embedded]Mic-Mutes Install on 2012 Honda Goldwing GL1800 - YouTube[/ame]
  22. For you guys that put a little SF in the oil, how much is the right amount in the RSV?
  23. I'm trying to find out if anyone knows where I can get a performance cam kit for my 99 RSV. I'd also like to know if a cam from a VMax will work in the 1300 Venture. Can anyone help? If anyone knows the specs for the cams in either engine, I'd love to have them. Thanks, New member, Mike Waldman
  24. Hey all, while I have my 08 Harley up for sale, and of course so much to do in our Michigan Winter, I have been looking at the different bikes out there. I looked at the RSTD and compaired the wet weight 844, to the RSV wet weight 869. Does it make sence that their is only a 25 pounds difference? I have taken off the trunk to a RSV and to me it was around 40-50 lbs., then add a fairing which I guess would weigh another 40 lbs., and the difference from a 5.3 gallon tank on the RSTD, comparied to the 6 gallon tank on the RSV. The windshield on the RSTD will weigh around 10-15 lbs I'm guessing, so maybe that would be a off set for the difference of weight from the tanks sizes and filled with gas. When I look at other manufactures weight differences between bikes, the RSTD is correct at 844 lbs., but the RSV should weigh around 910 lbs. Just a thought, Later-
  25. BMW is a little pricey for me, but I could really use this feature on my RSV...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIy0e1p1fuI&feature=youtu.be
