  1. Maybe I'm just tired, but can not find the detailed instructions on how to install the flanders bars on the rstd that the Navy Lt wrote up. Any help?
  2. Need detailed directions on changing coolant on my 2005 RSTD. Thanks in advance for the help.
  3. I have used them on the two VTX's I have owned and beyond the ability to remove, clean and recharge them, I didn't find any real benefit. I didn't do any testing of fuel savings due to it's insignificance. So does anyone have any real reason to use them with the exception of never having to replace them? I have found them on ebay for $65, has anyone found them cheaper? BTW I posted this in the RSTD tech form because I have an 07 RSTD, I say this because I don't know if the Venture is different.
  4. RSTD Looking to buy one, that is a Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe. I drove two over the weekend. The first was an 06 at a dealer with 30k. it had corrosion on it I think it has been ridden up north in the salt. When I drove it I found things like cruise and self canceling turn signals that didn't work. Although it ran OK when I returned with it the dealer asked what I thought about it and I replied "Road hard and put away wet". The second one was a black 06 bought new in 07 with 9k miles on it, WOW what a gorgeous bike I was ready to just put it in the trailer. But, we test rode it as you should and was disappointed with the obnoxious WINE and the slow speed steering was scary, it felt like the front tire was flat. The bike was difficult to turn then would turn like it was going to flop, so you had to push it hard then hold on as to not over steer. Now very frustrated we had to walk away from this bike as well. On our drive of 2-1/2 hours back home I realized I had hot feet ridding both bikes. I currently ride a VTX 1800 C with forward controls and my feet never get hot. Is the hot feet normal on this bike with the floorboards and the chin fairings? I ride in southern FL and most of the time it is 85 degrees plus so I'm wondering if anyone has installed vents in the faring or even cut holes in them to duct air back around the floorboards? Also any suggestions of what was wrong with the steering on that bike? We bought an 07 RSTD w/15 months of remaining warranty. I have added the wind wing air deflectors and hwy pegs which these photos do not show, the rest of the mods were on the bike at time of purchase. I also have bought a Shark stereo and have to get it installed this next week. BTW the deflectors fixed the hot feet issue along with the highway pegs.
  5. There are a large number of very attractive Harley Davidson after market taillights / turn signals on the market. Is the contour of the RSTD rear fender adequate for adapting one of these sets? Does anyone have photos?
  6. Ok, so a month or so ago I bought a set of RSTD handle bars for my 2006 Venture. My thought is, the RSTD have more pull back and are wider than the Venture bars so can I just get the throttle cable (upper) and the upper brake line from a RSTD an just swap them out with my Venture so that I gain the extra length that everybody says you need with these bars. Are the RSTD lines and cabels longer? Not sure what if anything to do about the clutch line. Could use a little insight into the swap and what others have done. Do I have to change the throttle cable (lengthen it 2”)? Will the standard Venture front brake line be ok “as is” or do I have to lengthen it too (2”)? What about the radio? OR is it a matter of just re-routing the present cable path? And yes I have done the search for some of the answers. LOL Bubber
  7. So now come the questions, first when I start out from a stop I hear a high pitched whine, something like a brake pad rubbing, but as I go I guess the noise of the engine drowns it out. Second, when I come a complete stop and place the bike in neutral to park it, when i let out the clutch I hear something like a grinding. Deep not high. So I love this new bike way to much to let any of this be a bummer, but I need some help. I can diagnose my Virago but still new to the RSTD. Any help will be great, PS does anyone know a Andy in Pine Valley CA, that used to have a 05 RSTD. The former owner has almost all the repair notes for the first 61k on this bike. Thanks again, Viragofan
  8. Ok so I finally have the 05 RSTD delievered from Sunner Southern Callifornia. Of course the weekend it arrived the temp was only 10 degrees outside. So being new to this and bike in another town, long story as to why but it will be coming home with me soon. By photos can you wonderfully intelligent people help me to answer a few questions. First is that orginal exhaust. (you will need to go to my album to review the photos). Second other than the pin stiping and the highway pegs is there any other noticable add ons? Virago's are my passion for years. Only one issue, too small for the wife and i to ride comfortably. So on to the next question, bike is out of California, I bought it from the dealership so I am unable to talk to the orginal owner. What I want to know is, is there any power robbing annoying emissions systems that I can remove from the bike? She has 60k on her and from what my dad said, rattle the windows in the shop when it started after it was delivered. So any help would be great. Thanks all, PS I included a photo of my 85 Virago, highly customized. All I can say is the wife said sell my virago and sell her bike and buy a better bike. AKA RSTD. SO I sold all the other bikes but I am keeping the Virago as my 3 yr son loves to help me and why not have a bike to tinker with. JK
  9. I have a 2008 RSTD and I just installed the saddlebag guards. I like them fine, except the stock turn signals now almost touch the saddlebag guards leaving a cluttered appearance. I considered purchasing a license tag set up with lights on either side that are the turn signals but then I would leave behind the holes in the rear fender from the original lights. Does anyone make a replacement that either goes onto the existing mount / stem or do any of you have any creative / attractive solutions that you have tried? Thanks. R.
  10. I have a 2008 RSTD and want to add spotlights. I purchased as set that were original equipment to early 2000's Indian, which has the turn signal built into the bottom of the spotlight housing. They mount fine on the RSTD spotlight bar. Does anyone have a diagram of how these get wired into the right circuit? I have seen where RSTD owners have added a toggle switch for on / off. Where do folks mount that toggle switch? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. R.
  11. My 2005 RSTD Rear Shock is toast, and of course is out of warranty. The thought of having a works shock that can be rebuilt makes a lot of sense to me. My question is: Is there any of us second geners that switched from the stock that are sorry they gave up the air adjustable functionality of the stock shock? Also, does anyone know about how long a Works shock lasts before needing a rebuild? I also have noticed a wide variance of how long the stock shocks are lasting for different people. My RSTD has 13,000 miles on it. Has Yamaha corrected the problem with the replacement shocks? The guy at Works asked me if I pull a trailer. I currently do not and don't think that I will, but I did not think that I would have added a Venture trunk either, but I just did. If I add a trailer later, is this something that I can adjust for on the Works shock, or do i have to start over form the design process? Has any of us had any experience with this dilemma, or had the same questions and gotten answers?
  12. Hello board members I'm looking for someone in Mi that may have Harley slash cut mufflers that will work on my 08 RSTD without having to rejet or anything. I just want a little louder sound. I would also look at any other sugestions for what you might have. I would like to be able to come and pick up if not to far so if anyone in or near the downriver area of Mi let me know. I would also like to know what number HD mufflers I would ask for at a HD dealer to go on my 08 RSTD without changing anything if they would even have any. Thanks, Joe
  13. I don't know what to do now I have been looking for a while for a non-Goldwing touring bike. Started looking at 1600 Kawasaki Nomads and really liked the features and the look of the bike. So this week I drive my VTX 1800 C over to the dealer and drive an 05 Nomad, what a pooch. Then after talking with owners and several dealers I'm convinced a RSTD/Venture is the bike for me. My problem is I have had problems even seeing one of the bikes to set on. I found a leftover 09 RSTD in Naples FL and drove down there this morning and sat on it. Now I know it is the bike for me, but when I look at many adds of bikes for sale they state they have had new clutches installed. This concerned me due to the bikes having less than 30k on them. Putting a new clutch in a VTX is almost unheard of, so I joined this site to find out about clutch issues. Guess what I come across, a thread about the whinning noise, and what I'm hearing is if the owners knew about the whine issue they wouldn't have bought the bike and now I'm I have now clew what to start looking at in a used touring bike. I now own a RSTD 07 and am enjoying it! BTW, I was required to were a helmet when test driving the bike and heard no whine what so ever but now I have it home and without a helmet I hear a wine at different RPM/Speed yet it isn't loud enough to cause me a lot of grief. I do plan to have it checked out before the warranty is gone which is Nov. of 2012. Any suggestions of when I should approach the Dealer with the clutch basket issue, now or later near the end of warranty?
  14. Well I layed my RSTD down on the right side. It had rain but quite but road was still wet. I was going down a steep hill with a 4way stop at the bottom. I was moving slow braking easy at the start of the down slop. But all at once I was down. Not hurt any just the bike. Windshield scratch right side, right front trun signal lens, front right lower cawling, right saddle bag, out side of a cable, head light, and but right side gards. Hurt my pride the most. Here is pictures of the damage. Already called the insurance company.
  15. I know there was a picture of a Hoppy mounted on an RSTD.... Apparently I am search challenged..... I am hoping someone has a picture, or an idea of where it can be mounted. Thanks in advance.. Robert C.
  16. Are the Yamaha conchos STR-4NK78-10-00 the same size as the embossed emblem on the RSTD seat skirts?
  17. Does anyone attending the Cody Rally have RSTD bars on their RSV that we could look at?
  18. Helo: Does anyone in Cody have RSTD bars on a RSV that we could look at?
  19. Hola, Not sure where the best place to post this is but I need a rear caliper for a 2008 RSTD and a rear disk. I know i can find them online (expensive) was hoping someone may have one just laying around they would part with for a reasonable price. Thanks SJ
  20. Hello Everyone: Following in the foots steps of a few other RSTD owners. I recently finished installing a Harley Tour Pack on my 2005 RSTD. I had it painted to match the raven black color of our bike. I wired up the tail, running and brake lights last night. I was pleased with my first DMY trunk however we really wanted something a little bigger. I bolted the Harley Trunk directly to my Wompus rack and my wife was satisfied with the height. I have pictures but have not had good luck up loading them to the website the past few weeks. I have tried resizing them, but no luck yet. We are looking forward to the Cody Rally!!!
  21. Ok so what is the depth of the passenger seat on a 05 RSTD? From the tip of the passenger seat to the backrest? Thanks. Viragofan
  22. #1.The Flanders bars have two part numbers. The 650-08783 @ http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=650-08783&x=15&y=17 #2.and this part number 650-08373 @ http://www.sideroadcycles.com/ImportedMotorcycles/ImportHandlebars/ImportFat/ImportFLT_Type.html They look like possibly the same :confused24: Which is normally used on the RSTD #1-08783, or #2-08373 ? Thanks for any and all information / insight / warnings / links for best price / advice. I will appreciate it please. Fuzzy
  23. The RSTD patches has arrived. I will get them out soon. Just one issue the package had a tear and so I maybe short patches. I'll take inventory tomorrow.
  24. I have been through alot of posts here and I am seriously thinking of picking up a RSTD or RSV. for the last several years I have been riding a Harley wide glide. I like it enough, but I am now in the market for something a little more comfortable. I have owned everything from Gold wings to sport bikes to on/off road bikes. I was considering buying a new Road King or Electra Glide, but they start out at 21 grand w/no extras. Seems a little expensive for what you get. So here is the situation I am in. A Harley/Honda/Yamaha dealer an hour North of here has an 07 RSTD sitting on the floor with 22 miles on it. I put 15 of those on test driving it. I believe these sold new in 07 for around 14k and change. They have it marked down to 11,300 and I feel like they may come down a little more. The bike is a 3 year old "new" bike. How do you tell what it is worth? I am also somewhat concerned that it will seem like a big bulky lumber wagon compared to my WG, but then it is a tourer. Has anybody here regretted trading in a WG or something similar and been bored with the RS? I am attracted to the RSTD because it seems stable on the highway, has a nice big seat and backrest for my wife, and if I am alone i can take off the windshield and backrest real easily. I was shopping for a bike with EFI, but I am into 70's Hondas so multiple carbs and synchronization doesn't scare me too much. Also, a 5 year unlimited mile warranty doesn't hurt either. I am also a big fan of customizing my bikes with pipes and chrome. It seems there are alot of options for RS's. Is that the case? Thanks for taking a look at this post. Sorry I am all over the map with my questions. Erik
  25. Now that Bubber has been able to get a set of RSTD bars, let's start this again to see if we can find me a set. I know we had some posts on the other thread, but I need to find a set for someone who is a bit financially challenged when it comes to the bike fund. Has anybody else got another set?
