  1. I have opened up my float bowls on my 96 RSTD to clean the pilot jets. I figured that I should check the float levels while I was in there. Unfortunatly the older 2nd gens have different carbs than what V7Goose has in the tech section. I have downloaded the manual and I can't seem to find a measurment. Any help would be appreciated.
  2. Just rode the RSTD 540 miles this weekend. My butt is killing me. What seats are you guys comfortable riding for long distances on? I have a 2006 RSTD (new to me).
  3. I have a 2006 RSTD. My Liner had a switch that was meant for running lights. The RSTD doesn't have this switch. So I'll need a switch and light ideas. I'd like to be able to turn them off and on separate from the headlight and the switch has to look like it wasn't an afterthought. Ideas?
  4. To start i have changed the oil and filter on my 99 RSTD put everything back together (was a partial basket case) replaced slave cylinder soaked clutch disc carbs were rebuilt by previous owner(friend) in which i did hear the motor run (which is 1 reason my wife bought it and it looks good) 7 months ago gas tank was off (ran on mason jar with gas) i dont know if fuel filter was changed and dont know where its located but i am getting gas to 2 carbs cause its leaking out of the overflow hose she turns over clutch pulled, in gear, stand up and in nutral but will not run any ideas i taped the bowls of the carbs on left side fuel still pours out od/check, eng light comes on when key is turned on then goes out when i hit starter both oil and temp light comes on and flickers while cranking i get spark to plug the one plug i did check. bike has 21452 mi on it so i know it did a lot of sitting and rotting away my friend started working on it in aug. 2011 as a aniversary gift from my wife in oct 2011 i just got it 3 weeks ago any help would be apriciative
  5. Ok, I asked this before with no replies, let's try once more: I receive my box with the AIR KIT STEALTH BARON RSTD 96-2000. I know that on one of the carburetors I saw a slow movement of the diaphragm getting back to the normal position, and I think that was also a little grasse or oily (I think that cilynder is the reason of some backfires). I'm trying to fix this problem and get better performance, so somebody has some experience with this??? Any help will be welcome. Thanks :detective:
  6. From my Nortons, to BMWer to HD I am hooked on the Royal Star engines. Thanks to all who helped me navigate the transition from my Road King to a roaring 4 cyl Yamaha. Three weeks ago I passed on the 03 Venture after trying a RSTD at the last minute mainly because of a heavy feeling on the Venture's steering. I was ready to lay the cash down on the Venture until the RSTD ride. Guess I wasn't used to the baggers and I ride mainly solo. Last week I located a 05 RSTD in CA that was a screamer with Krome Werks pipes, Kurykyn highway pegs, studde tank bra with pouch Mustang seats with driver back rest and OH YEA for the solo ride a studded single Ultimate seat with a carriage rack. I bought a Kuryakn Grantailgater I adore the many configuration the RSDT affords and above all love the high rpm this machine screams at. I don't have to wait till the cow come home like my V-Twins to get warmed and ready. Fourth gear really is an over drive and 5th a luxury. As for the chrips easily handled with rpm and never an issue other than it reminds you that you are lugging your machine. It's how you drive it. I did a 150 mile in the snow capped Sierras and this RSTD handle, shifted and responded like a German designed machine without the ugliness and it turned some serious uphill in ant hills. Hope there is room here for the RSTD machine Normax:cool10:
  7. Got mine today and the instruction sheet says that for the RSTD Note: Do not exceed 6500 RPM on a stock Royal Star with out aftermarket valve springs. Do not Exceed 7500 RPM on a stck Venture with out aftermarket valve springs. So if I set my 08 RSTD at 7250, will it hurt it?
  8. On the RSTD is there a fuse that controls the Auxiliary DC connector that is located under the drivers seat? Mine is no longer giving out 12 volts and I need to know what the problem could be if it is not a blown fuse? (2006 RSTD)
  9. Hello All, I have an opportunity to trade with a stealership, straight across, a set of BUB sleepers from a 07 RSTD with 4900 miles for my 05 RSTD stock mufflers. They say that they cannot sell the bike with non-EPA mufflers. Are those running BUBs happy with the tone and performance? Does seem like a no brainer. My star does have some pop on decel and I am sure more noticeable with the BUBs. Might force me to look at the rest of the exhaust for leaks. Thanks
  10. What you all think not done yet still need to finish off. Joe
  11. I have been looking at this bike every time I go for a check up on my shoulder surgery in Mount Sterling,KY..... The dealer is right next door with in walking distance, and I did think of one of these before me and my Red Raven sweetheart, but I am kinda struck on her. Does any one else have one or had any experience with them. I still love my RSTD, but, this bike has some really nice features and I absolutely love this color. Very good breaking system. Belt drive. Water cooled. Woe is me for even thinking ???????? But don't hurt to look does it ???? http://images.motorcycle-usa.com/PhotoGallerys/xlarge/2012-Kawasaki-Vulcan-1700-V.gif Fuzzy
  12. Hello, I have 2006 RSTD and am interested in changing out the handlebars. Last fall I took a 3,500 mile trip and when I got back my shoulders/neck were sore for quite awhile, I think from extended holding in that low/wide position. A fellow biker said he prefers having his handlebars chest high, as he feels it makes for better circulation. The stock handlebars on my RSTD are wide (36 inches at the ends) and positioned low in relation to the gas tank. I have looked into installing risers butI am not sure if that will bring them up as much as I want. Also, risers will not change the width. Has anyone repositioned their handlebars using risers or switched out handlebars altogether? I appreciate any feedback/suggestions you have. Thank you very much, Rickman in WA.
  13. Did somebody installed the Air Kit Baron BA-00-2000 for RS or RSTD 96-2000? Any recommendation? Still cannot improve mileage on my 97... :confused24:
  14. Does anyone know if F4Customs makes a tall windshield for the RSTD? I'd like to get a little wider windshield but have been hesitant to go with the Clearview due to a number of posts about terrible shipment times. If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears...
  15. I am looking for an Air equalization kit for my front forks, Progressive doesnt offer these kits any longer.....Does any one have any suggestions as to WHERE they are available? I have a 07 RSTD...Thanks
  16. i picked up my brand new 2009 rstd from the dealership on Friday. 15 km into my initial ride I pulled up at a red light when the light changed all of a sudden I had no gears what so ever. Although it is in deed under warantee i would love to here from the membership as to how I should handle this situation. needless to say I am very disapointed.
  17. I added my RSTD on bike bandit and there are four RSTD for 2006. XVZ13CTMV, MVC, V, VC Is there somewhere I can check the vin and see which model I have? Just curious.
  18. All, I am looking to add a venture tour pack truck, backrest and such to my 2008 RSTD. I have the hand grips and the trunk itself. I need the backrest, mounting brackets and other pieces. Where can I get a list of complete parts and where can I get the parts? I know I have seen some of the other RSTD owners do this and post some awesome pictures. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  19. I have a 2008 RSTD and it seems like the bike is going slower than the reading on the speedometer. It is most noticeable at highway speeds of 55, 60, 65, 70, and I'm guessing it is off 3 to 5 miles per hour too high. Has anyone run some tests to show the speed of the bike?
  20. Anyone tried a 185 on their RSTD? Wasn't sure if there would be a fit problem. I ordered a 165 and will see how much room I have for the next tire. Selection of 185s is a bit better than 165. I had a General Altimax HP on my last bike and loved that tire. Looked great and handled well.
  21. Is there a fix for this? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=665391#post665391 Mine new to me RSTD has a notable whine in all gears.
  22. RSTD is a 06 with 13K, my RSV is a 99 with 56K. Got the RSV thinking I could get the wife to ride, but to no avail. Loved the engine so I found a RSTD midnight instead. Love it! Just sold my 03 Honda Sabre to an Afgan Vet. He's very happy now. It's a good bike too. Served me well. Anybody need a 99 RSV in great shape in Virginia?
  23. Lets all post pictures of our bike so we can see what wonderful mods you done!
  24. I'm considering making a purchase in the next day or so. Found a 2005 RSTD in great cosmetic condition, but has 107,000 miles on it. It's at a used bike dealer with no history or documentation but he claims it was a trade in from original owner who did coast to coast touring on it and hasn't had any problems with it. The rear tire is bald, fluids appear old and dark, but the price is about $1500 under book value compared to 30,000 mile bikes with similar equipment. It does have a new windshield and new seat. Hard bags are nice also. I've had ST1100 with 94k miles in the past with no fear of the bike letting me down, but I had receipts that went back 5 years and A LOT of work was done to it. Would you take the chance? What would you inspect before laying out the cash? The price is $3500. If a rebuild or major failure is eminent at 107k, it would be smarter to go with a $5000 bike with lower miles. Considering the highway touring it's had, I wonder how religious the owner was about oil changes and valve adjustments? Anyone else with 6 digits on their odometer?
  25. :fingers-crossed-emoHi guys I'm a newbee with a problem I need help with. I bought a 97 RSTD with 26000mi that was sitting up for two years. It starts but runs real ruff(suprise) I want to rebuild the carbs and since I'm adding aftermarket exhaust I want to re-jet. I was told I need to change the orings because of the ethenol in fuel these days, 1. Where is the best place to buy the rebuild kit? 2. What size jets do I need? 3. Is that true about the orings and if so will the orings in the kit do? If not where can I buy the orings? Also this bike pulls left hard at very slow speed. I know that all bikes have their quirks but, Is this normal? Any other suggestions will be appreciated Thanks for any help. John
