I just read the tech section in my October issue of Motorcycle Cruiser. A reader wrote in to ask Mark Zimmerman in the Shop Talk section about a Royal Star that has a whine in the rear end. The reader talked about proper shimming and all of his experience. Mr Zimmerman's response was "I'm not aware of any specific or generic problems with the Royal Star's final drive..... I did a quick internet search and nothing jumped out at me, so if you have info to the contrary please let me know so I can find out what's going on." I emailed him instantly, gave him a list of web sites to investigate , including Venturerider.org, If you have any information for Mr. Zimmerman reguarding a whine in a Royal Star I think he deserves an email at zimmemr@aol.com. Lets see if he can make good on his promise to "find out what's going on."

Greetings from Nebraska: Our neighbor owns a 1999 Royal Star. He kept it but started riding a 98 Harley Ultra. In the past two years the Harley has needed a new engine and Tranny and has been in the shop more than on the road. Rode with him on a three hundred mile ride today, the Harley only make it about 100 miles before more tranny trouble arose. He had to call for a truck and trailer. I lover my 2005 RSTD more everytime I ride it!!!!! Good thing he kept his Yamaha, looks like he is going to need it to finish out the riding season. Ride safe everyone...

Hello folks. I saw this listed on Ebay today and thought maybe someone on our site may be interested. Its a 1983 Venture that looks like it could be new. Just look under Royal Star. It was listed on 6/28. I tried to put a link to the page but for some reason it didn't work. Sorry

I'm looking for an older Royal Star to buy, say 96-99, and I found a 96 on the internet but it's a fair drive away. I phoned the dealer who's selling it and they say there's 7000 miles on the bike. I have a hard time believing there's that few miles on a 14 year old bruiser cruiser. Does the odometer on the early royal stars roll over at a hundred thousand miles or a million miles?? (00,000 or 000,000) Dealers have been known to tell "half truths" in their favour and if there is only 7000 miles, I'd like to drive the three hours and grab it while it's there. Thanks, D.W.

Have a 87 royal and am having some head light problems. The light will come on sometimes, and other times won't turn on. All i have done is check the light plug on the back of the head light. When it works, i have power, but when it doesn't work, i don't have any power. DUH. When the light works, i have high and low beams. Where do i start on this problem? Thanks Aaron

Hi Everybody; Just traded my 96 Royal Star for an 01 bagger: Old guy owned 11K mi example...sweet Picking it up tomorrow Couple ??...I've owned most of the touring models: 83 Venture 78-91 GW Voyager Just about everything except an HD and this RSV Couple questions you experts can answer: 1. How topheavy is it? Surely not as bulbous as my 91 Aspencade! (That thing was like trying to mount an elephant and was absolutely scary in a parking lot with rocks...I kept my 85 Aspencade and was glad I did...still have it) 2. I read some threads on here saying there was a difference between the 01-07 models? I thought after 01 they stayed pretty much the same? 3. Were the WW tires original to some of these, or aftermarket... 4. What about the clutch basket recall...was this model affected and should I have dealer fix before taking delivery? We're going to Savannah next month, might as well go in style with the best (if it's anything like my Royal Star...I like Yamaha quality!) Thanks, Guys! Ride Safe!! http://www.timemachinewatch.com/buy/rsv01.jpg

I'm brand new to the fourm so I thought I would post a quick note to introduce myself. My name is Kyle and I'm from the Richmond, IN area. I ride a red/white Royal Star XVZ13A. I've been riding my Royal Star (named Tanto, cause he looks like an Indian, but he's not!) for about a year now and I can't believe I've never found this site before. I'm still pretty new to the whole moorcycle community (I've been riding for about 5 years, but I've never been involved in any clubs, charity rides, poker runs etc..) and I have lots of questions, but I'll try to pace myself so I don't annoy you guys too much. I would post a picture of Tanto, but I don't have a clue how that would work. So anyway I just wanted to let you guys know a little about me. I hope to see you around! --Kyle

Hi all, I'm looking at a 2008 Venture for 10,900. Has 3,600 miles so it looks brand new. I borrowed a friend 97 Royal Star and rode it around. The ride is great and it handles nice, but the performance is very sluggish. I'm pretty sure his bike is WAY out of tune though. I currently ride a Honda VT1100C2 Sabre twin. I'd kind of like the same passing ability I have now along with the smoooooth ride the yahama has Question is, does any one know the 1/4 mile time and top crusing speed for the 2008 Venture? I don't need a hot rod but I need something that will pull better than the friends Royal Star. Thanks Rich

Hi guys. I have a 2005 Royal Star Tour Deluxe and have just ordered the Complete Bub 4 into 2 exhaust system for it. This system replaces the head pipes as well as the slip-ons. Bub doesn't say anything about re-jetting, but my dealership has told me that I don't need to re-jet unless i change the head pipes, which I will be doing. Because of what my dealership said, I contacted the guys at Baron, and they tell me that I shsouldn't have to re-jet unless I change the intake. I told them that the only change that I planned to make to the intake was to use K&N elements. They told me that even with the change of elements along with changing the whole exhaust, they still would not recommend re-jetting. Also, I can't seem to find a jet kit out there for a 2005 Royal Star Tour Deluxe anyway. I am a little un-easy with the conficting information. I trust the guys at Baron because they have alot of experience with the Royal Star, but at the same time, I want to be sure my mistress doesn't burn up from running to lean. Do any of you guys have a 2005 or newer RSTD with the Complete Bub 4 into 2 system? If so, what did you do or what has your experience been. Regards, Tony 2005 Royal Star Tour Deluxe

Hello Everyone, I'm just about to become a new owner of a 2000 model XVZ1300A Yamaha Royal Venture Star. I'm already having some problems over here regards being able to get accessories for the bike. Its not very popular in this country and Yamaha Europe are beginning to discontinue the parts that I can see advertised from the star accessories web site. I am wondering if you can advise if there is a source for accessories for the bike in the US that would ship things to the UK........ These are the parts that I would be interested in getting for the bike. Front passing lamps STR-4XY35-40-00 Passing Lamp Mounts Fits '99~'09 Royal Star Venture STR-4XY35-10-00 Passing Lamps Fits '99~'09 Royal Star Venture Pannier Protector Rails STR-4XY72-70-00 Fits '99~'09 Royal Star Venture & '05~'09 Tour Deluxe "Leather Tank Bra with Pockets" STR-4XY49-10-01 Studded, BlackFits '99~'09 Royal Star Venture Headlight Visors STR-4NK58-10-00 Fits all Royal Star models, V Star 650 & 1100 Classic/Silverado and '99~'09 Road Star Standard/Silverado Hopefully someone in the group can assist.

Im not sure of what the dark side is..LOL... but I used to be a Sport Bike rider, (canyons and track), until i got tired of the riding position of sport bikes and decided to switch to cruisers..lol....i still enjoy the thrill of canyon twisties and mountain riding, but i want to hear some experiences with people riding corners at certain speeds.... just about how much can a Royal Star handle on the twisties??.. i know its a heavy beast , but how does it handle??... what are some good tires for canyon riding on these babies?? thanks:pushups::pushups:

I just bought my uncles 96 royal star with only 4300 miles on the ticker... A few months ago it would not run and leaked gas by the carbs, and he had it to the local dealership for "bend ya over" carb servicing. I took possession of it this weekend, and warms up fine, and idles fine, but when you crack the throttle it bogs... When accelerating from a dead-stop it bogs and I have to rev it and ride the clutch to keep it from stalling out. After that the initial low rpms it kicks in and accelerates fine, but still feels weak (though I have never ridden a Royal Star.) I really do not want to trouble shoot everything, and would like to get to the heart of the matter. So, based on my description would anyone have a good idea what it may be, and to remedy it? Thanks!

Does anybody else check this out? I have been checking their reviews of modular helmets and have gotten some good ideas. I also notice that this site is reviewed as follows: VentureRiders: VentureRiders is a very active site and by far the largest site in the world that is dedicated primarily to the Yamaha Venture, Royal Star Venture and Royal Star motorcycles. They also have a number of members that ride other brands as well, so check it out! It seems we get around quite well! Dave

Well we finally got some nice weather and I was able to work in my shop and install the gauges on my 1996 Royal Star. I used the 2" Equus gauges because they were the closest match to the speedometer and you can change the colour of the background lighting. Everything working and no leaks so far. Many thanks to Ponch for the water temperature adapter swap. Doug

I am getting my 96 Royal Star ready for spring and want to sync the carbs. I have read the article in the 2nd generation RSV and Royal Stars but it appears that the location of the adjusting screws are different on the Royal Star than on the bike in the photos. I can see one screw on the left side near the choke knob that I assume is one and two on the right side that are side-by-side. Could someone who is familiar with the Royal Stars confirm whether these are the right screws, I have synced all my other bikes and am familiar with the procedure but would like to confirm that these are the right adjusters. Any information would be appreciated. Doug

Thought I'd drop into a couple of our local Yamaha shops and see what was available for windshields (other than stock). Like a wider one and maybe a bit shorter than stock. So, I asked the question.. "What options do you offer for windshields for a Royal Star Venture?" First dealer: "We have a few different ones but you also have to buy the mounting hardware." Me: "What mounting hardware? The windshield bolts to the existing fairing bracket." First dealer: "For what kind of bike is it?" Me: "A 2006 Royal Star Venture" First dealer: "Let me look" ... she goes through a couple catalogues muttering about the brackets and then says "We don't list anything for 2006, only 1996 thru 2001 for a Royal Star" Me: " I said Royal Star Venture.... they are made from 1999 thru 2010 and are all the same" First dealer: "Well, I don't list anything and you'll still probably have to buy the mounting kit" Me: "Forget it!" and I walked out. Second Dealer: (I asked the same question but spoke with a sales rep) "Yamaha sells one. I'll get a printout for you" He comes back and sure enuf, it's a shorter, wider one... to the tune of $288. Me: "What about non-Yamaha ones...??" Second Dealer: "I don't think anyone makes them ... and if they did, the quality just wouldn't be there." Me: "OK, thanks" ... and I leave. geeeeeesh! What the heck is the matter with these people around here... they just don't cater to the "touring rider" by offering much of anything in the way of accessories for the RSV, let alone knowing much about them it seems. I remember several years ago when I had my '85 Venture I had to go to a Kawasaki shop to get a new "non-Yamaha" windshield and a pair of Jardine mufflers coz the local Yammi dealer "couldn't get them".... it must be that Yamaha is very restrictive as to what their dealers can / can not sell.

Ok.. I've finally went the synthetic way on this last oil change.. AMSOIL 10W40 Synthetic.. no additives etc.. Not many choices around here as to what to use, Yamaha dealership recommended Kawasaki Synthetic Oil.. meh.. AMSOIL was cheaper, I had used it before in my VStar with good results.. Has anyone ever used Royal Purple Synthetic Oil? It's hard to get around here but I may be able to get a decent deal on a couple of cases, but not sure if it's suitable for the RSV as it's mostly for high performance engines.. It would end up being cheaper than anything else I can get around here.. Anyone have good or bad to say about Royal Purple?? Thanks in Advance.
