  1. Coming down to the final days here in Michigan, Have most everything packed up and the big truck is coming Saturday. Will load sat and sun and be on the road monday. And be moving into new place in Hillsboro NC on wed. Getting excited!
  2. 14 bikes took a nice ride yesterday to the route 66 red carpet ride in Illinois. It is a festival celebrating the mother road. We had such a great ride with great friends and perfect weather. Museums about the history of the road and sights along the way.
  3. Any Washington riders know of a unique restaurant experience in Ellensburg Wa. Looking for something that has a unique and interesting decor for conversation. Variety of food average or better, not interested in expensive foods but rather tasty. My wife and I are planning a day's ride this Sunday. Supposed to be mostly sunny. in the mids 60s. Starting out from Buckley, Wa To Enumclaw Chinook Pass (Beautiful Views) Tipsoo lake (Nice Twisty Roads) Take a few pictures Top of Chinook Pass ( More pictures) Long Canyon Road Beautiful Naches Yakima Hwy 821 - This is an increable road that litterly follows the Yakima River bend for bend. Just map Ellensburg Wa to Yakima Wa. It will route you on hwy 82 Then drag the route in the middle to the river just to the left. Thats hwy 821. Eat in Ellensburg Return trip Follow route back to Naches Hwy 12 all the way to Packwood Along the Cowlitz River Past Rimrock Lake Top of White Pass At Packwood Take Skate Creek Road to (map Packwood Wa to Elbe Wa) Used to be a dirt service road now paved. (nice 20 + mile ride) Maybe Dinner at Copper Creek Inn. I usually pull off the road Near Alder Lake State park To allow the cars ahead of me a few minutes. When the next set of cars comes around the sweeping corner I quickly take off for the next few miles of great short quick twisties along the Canyon. And with no cars ahead of me, hopefully. I think there is only one side road Where a car could get in front of me. Then Home thru Eatonville, Graham, Orting, South Prairie, Buckley. Should be about 335 miles. Get home just probably after the sun set. Get to try out some of my new lights. I plan on taking my Drift HD170 and film the best parts on a 32 gig card. Hopefully I can operate the Stop and Record on the remote with my gloves on. Anyone interested let me know.
  4. On Monday, its off to work. I'm at the office early. A quick cup and coffee and begin to focus on the work week. I'm getting the week's tasks prioritized and make a quick run through the emails. Here's a message from one of my riding buddies bragging about a new 'hole in the wall' eating place. I will have to put that one on my 'short list'. On Tuesday, I’m knee deep in a busy week. Service calls are made, meetings are attended. Service reports, equipment evaluations – the business gears are in full grind. Still, if only for a short break, I think about riding. I wonder if Steve and Bob are enjoying their commuting ride each morning. By Wednesday, I’m in full swing. Things at work are flowing quickly - equipment breaks, equipment repaired. Plans are executed. Challenges come and are met – these are handled by experience and expertise. At lunch, I surf the net some for my passion. But by now, I’m checking the weekend weather. Looks nice – should be good for a ride. If I don't hear from one of my buddies, I send a quick email. “How about a ride Saturday?” I'll wait for a response. Thursday comes, and I start getting excited about the upcoming weekend. 2 more days until the fun begins. Perhaps I will hear from a riding buddy. Maybe I’ll be riding alone. Either way, I’m going. During a break, I’m scanning around Google Maps, looking for new roads – thinking about what might interest me. I don't want a lot of traffic. If I want to leave early, heading west or north to keep the morning sun out of my eyes. Hmmm – I bet the spring wild flowers will be in bloom. Or maybe the river water level will be up at that state park up north. So many choices, so little time. IT’S FRIDAY!! By this afternoon, I’m going to take care of the last service calls for the week. The company can have me today. But tomorrow is mine. Just me and the road. I close my eyes for a second. I can smell the country. I can breath clearly – hear the sounds. I can hear the roar of my bike. I can see the curves in the road. I can feel the forces on my body as I ride. I can't wait until tomorrow! Saturday is ride day. I will get up early, have a cup of coffee and leave as soon as the sun rises. Maybe I’ll ride over and meet a buddy somewhere before we head out for an adventure. Maybe I’ll be venturing out on my own. Maybe I know where I’m going. Maybe I have no idea. Perhaps I’ll turn a corner and stumble upon that perfect country road. The one that steps you back in time 60 years as you pass the old farms with wind mills and run down barns. Maybe I’ll find that twisty road on the map that looked so interesting. Maybe I’ll find a 100 foot white pine, with its massive branches that reflects life lesson about bending without breaking. Maybe I’ll visit the coast line – watch the birds foraging for lunch. Maybe I’ll stop somewhere and meet someone new. We will chat for a while about riding. Maybe I’ll find that farmers field, where the sun and shadows provide that perfect photo. Maybe I’ll ride that same old road – the one which I have memorized every curve. I can ride that road as a master, safely pushing my machine back and forth and loving her power and smoothness. Maybe I’ll go 600 miles, or maybe just 60. Maybe I’ll do all of these, or none of these. But this much I know – wherever I go, I will find adventure, and I will have a blast. And when I return, the world will seem right again. I’ll have a feeling of peace. I’ll be ready for whatever comes next. What comes next is Sunday. On Sunday, I wake up early to read the paper and drink some coffee. Later that morning, I’ll cook Sunday lunch for my wife. We share several meals together during the week. While I cook, I’ll day dream about yesterday. What a day that was. Yesterday was a play day. I got to ride my bike. We had an adventure together. We left the house excited and returned home relieved of any stress. Yesterday was a blast. I love Saturdays...
  5. Crashed the bike last night coming home in the rain. No problem on the pavement or the county gravel road, but I only made it 1/4 mile down the road to the house before the front wheel started skidding in the mud. I was in first gear going slow, but the bike acts like a pig on ice when the front tire starts sliding... And down I went. It pitched me off the left side as it hit the ground. I'm fine, but unfortunately the bike isn't. I was able to pick it up and ride it out of the ditch and on down to the house. Adrenaline is a wonderful thing! Driving light mount is bent, lower left side fairing is busted, left crash bars bent, windshield and fairing scratched, and where the rear left speaker is also cracked. Could have been worse. Just last week we were just talking with the neighbors about buying some more gravel for our road...
  6. All, Hey I just joined the forum today after looking around here for some time. I recently inherited a 1984 Venture Royal from a friend and am looking to fix her up. She does run but my friend laid her down and i have some fairing work to do. As he did not have great records, i wanted to get her up and running the right way so am asking if you have a recommended check list of things I look for, fluids to replace, and other items to check. I am going to have a local mech come over and check it out as well but also wanted to get some direction from the experts. I really look forward to learning from you and sharing the successes of getting this bike road ready. Since she only has about 32K miles, I figure there is a lot of life left. Any help and direction would be appreciated, as would pictures as I am very new to all of this and want to make sure I get it right. Thanks in advance, Mark
  7. I'm out for a spin yesterday and lovin' the warm weather and country back roads. And I notice this happening a few times during the ride. Starting out from an intersection, turning right or left, clear road (no sand, gravel, road kill) the rear tire slips its grip. Just a little, but noticeable. I'm not what you would call a hard rider. You won't find me scrapping pegs on turns. So I'm thinking because I don't use the outside edge of the tire except maybe on turns from intersections, the grip is lost due to lack of use. My question is: Would it be a good idea to rough up the outside edge of the tire with sand paper to get the rubber to grip better? Has anyone tried this or had experience with it? I just figure that it sounds logical. Of course, I watched the Leafs this year. Don't know why. Thomas
  8. I put the old girl up for sale on facebook. and got 3 offers. im asking $1500. and have 2 that are interested at that price. they both live 3 hours away from me. im prety sure the bike is road worthy to make that ride back to there place.? as i claimed it was. i did tell him to have someone follow him. what i want to know is how do i write it up. bill of sale? so that im covered? maybe sold as is where is? no warrenty. implied? and no refunds? any help would be appreciated. also have to get it down off the center stand and out to the road. but i think we can do that if he wants it. this will pay off the balance on my car. and i can be stress free for a while.another bike will come along some day. and im not going away from here.
  9. I know...I know another RK Muffler question. I just wanted to check on something. I just got a very nice set of slash-cut Road King mufflers. They are off a 1998 model. Serial Numbers are: 65546-98 and 65547-98. From my reading here and other forums I understand that these will not contain the catalytic converter. However, when peering though the mufflers I noticed that I can see through the 65547-98 through a small center hole down in the muffler. I cannot see through the 65546-98. Is this normal or is there a problem with the one I can't see through?
  10. Lately when I try to put some pressure into my suspension, according to the class, the pressure goes up kind of fast but the bike doesn't go up at all. The first time this happened, it worked fine 6 or 7 miles later down the road. I'm not getting any kind of error code or anything. This happens on the front or rear, doesn't matter. Any ideas? Thanks, Bill
  11. I'd like to covert my Rover trailer into a one man sleeper, for my July road trip. with these pictures, can this be done to the trailer? Please call me, I'll drop the trailer off. 954-309-3983
  12. bottom line is be carefull out there. Today i was in my work van( e250) and I ran a rider on a crotch rocket off the road. Never seen him untill I was already in his lane. Since I ride I tend to look and still never seen him till it was too late. I was traveling in the right lane running 50 mph in a 45when I needed to change to the left as that lane turns into a right turn only at the next light. I looked , seen nothing and changed lanes and thats when I heard his horn. I pulled back into right lane as quick as possible . The only glimps I seen of this guy was that he was on one wheel as he was trying to go by me. The rear wheel at 65 plus according to him. After he cussed me and informed me that I should have seen his hid headlight he recently installed I informed him its kinda hard to see a headlight when its pointed at the sky. He finally admitted to me he was playing and doing a wheely at that speed . I finally got him to calm down after I did say that he must be a hell of a rider as I have no idea how he got it back down on 2 wheels , put it in the gravel edge of the road and managed to keep it up. We parted ways shaking hands and both agreeing to be a little more carefull. In the end no one was hurt and no damage to either vehicle lbut damn that scared us both as that truck weighs 6000 lbs empty and who knows what could have happend. be safe out there weather in a cage or on your bike. Later all David
  13. I have a 98 Royal Star that I have almost completely turned into a tour deluxe. The last thing on my list are saddle bags, as I have all of the brackets and exhaust installed. The problem I am having is finding factory bags without spending a fortune! Is there somewhere besides eBay that I can source them? Also, I use to have a road king classic and I really kind of Liked those bags. Believe it or not, I can buy a pair of those for half the Yamaha factory bags. Has anyone done this, and if so is there a write up and pictures?
  14. This morning about 6:00 AM my daughter was driving her car headed to her job on a two lane road just outside of the city. This is a fairly busy road during the day but not so much at the time of morning. She was doing about 55 mph and heard a scraping noise and the car jerked to the left and slid into the oncoming lane. She couldn't control the car as she slid. She ended up sitting on the edge of the road (no shoulder there) on the oncoming side. She got out to find both front tires flat and a rear losing air. There was a LOT of barbed wire caught under the car and wrapped up in the front suspension. She called 911 as she was alone on the road and no one had come along yet. The Sheriffs Dept responded in good time and helped her contact a friend of mine and made towing arrangements. They got her car safely off the road and to the shop. So a tow bill, three new tires and daughter is okay. Car will survive with a few minor repairs. So... stuff happens on the rural roads right? Stuff falls off trucks, farmers drag stuff out of the fields, and all that. BUT.... come to find out tonight this is the third time this has happend to drivers in the last 6 days in that same area in the early mornings. What the H***? Does this sound like a mishap? An accident? Not to me. The tow driver said he cut off almost 75 feet of barbed wire off the car. It looked like the wire had been looped around a tree trunk as the bark had been scalped off. Me.... I'm just sitting here smoldering figuring out how to make a slip knot for a noose out of barbed wire. I'm thrilled my kid is ok and unharmed but a bit scary for myself also. I run that same road on my bike about every Sunday morning headed out for my Sunday ride. So what are the odds of catching the fool doing this? Probably not very high. Not good at all. I just have this thing about justice. This joker needs to be caught and damned fast before some one gets killed. I'll shut up now..... I need to practice on my knot. Mike
  15. Well, I might be back on a Yamaha! I found a great deal on an 08 Tour Deluxe with under 4,000 miles and warrenty until 2015. I would like to sell my 03 Road Glide first so I don't have to borrow the money and I am talking to a guy who will give me what I need to purchase the Tour Deluxe plus a 91 Trans Am GTA with 62,000 miles. So I get rid of the Road Glide and end up with a Tour Deluxe and a Trans Am with the only cost being the taxes and fees. Let's see - I've had two 2000 MM Ventures and an 07 Tour Deluxe. For some reason I keep coming back to the Yamaha! One of the greatest benefits of having a Royal Star is the Venturerider forum!!!
  16. Could any one tell me if a trailer hitch from a road star fit a 07 venture or a 09 tour deluxe.Any help http://by153w.bay153.mail.live.com/att/GetAttachment.aspx?tnail=2&messageId=5bf85335-6622-11e1-879b-00237de334c2&Aux=40|0|8CEC84641DB36D0||0|0|0|0||&maxwidth=220&maxheight=160&size=Att&blob=MXwyMDEyMDIyMjEzNTEyNDkwNi5qcGd8aW1hZ2UvanBlZw_3d_3d would be great
  17. I too decided to leave the Venture behind after nearly 1 year. I tried with all my heart and sole to love this bike so I wouldn't be buying something else but it didn't work. The bike was great on the interstate, but due to the weight and top heavy feel it was not happy on the city streets. It was the most comfortable cruiser I have ridden. I did have a Royal Star Tour Deluxe in 1998 and a Road Star Silverado in 2001 and a Road King Classic in 2007. Out of these cruisers the RSV is the most comfortable. In 2007 I bought an FJR and was in heaven for 2 years. I told my wife I wouldn't ride anymore. Sold it and didn't ride for 1 year then begged to buy another FJR in 2009. I couldn't find anything except a Concours 14 ABS. I bought it but was never happy with it like I was with the FJR. Front brake rotors had to be replaced under warranty and then after 2,000 miles they started grabbing once more. I then traded it on the 2011 RSV. Thought I would be happy, but I couldn't take it. I like the nimbleness of the FJR and it being so much lighter and easier to handle. I find myself so excited about riding again. I think if I had never riden the FJR I would have been ok. It simply spoiled me! Thanks for all the help and answering the few questions that I had. I did enjoy being on this forum and having questions answered without me even asking. Elcorbs

  20. Look what a HD Fat Boy can do,,, oh,,, sorry that's a Road Glide!
  21. I am going to go and look at a 1999 Road Star 1600 it looks to be in nice shape from the pics I have seen, one owner 52,000 miles what are some things that I should be sure to check out on it. And what would be a fair price to pay or offer. Thanks Orlin
  22. Ok, some of you know we are looking for a place to live, well we think we found it. I have to pay the deposit by wed and rent next week. But that's not the reason for the title of the thread. On our way to dinner after seeing the place (it's our wedding anniversary today) Mike was traveling on a 4 lane stretch of road here in Warner Robins a woman in a small car pulled out into the lane in an attempt to travel across all 4 lanes of traffic. Upon realizing she couldn't make it even partway across she slammed on brakes..right in front of Mike, we saw her attempt so he was slowing down just in case but was still traveling too fast to come to a stop since there was loose gravel in the road too. So he cut behind her, thought he gave enough room to get around her...but then she backed up. I could have punched the trunk of her car she was so close when she backed up. Never once did she seem to realize there was a bike there. We made it to dinner, and let me tell you, that was some really good sake I had with dinner. I drank the entire bottle myself. Here's hoping next year's anniversary is less exciting....
  23. Just got the bike back on the road after going through it after purchasing. It has 55K and wasn't taken care of like I would have. Just replaced seals, cleaned, greased-up what I could and cleaned the carbs and synched and all I can say is, WOW. What a great bike. Lov'n the V4. Moving it around it's like pushing a train, but get it on the road and!!!!!!!!!
  24. Some local riders (approximately 400 of them) came out to protest the safety of one of our main highways and one of the most beautiful riding roads around our area. A road that guys like Rocket and thousands of others have to drive every day to get to and from work. My friend Jana was killed on his motorcycle in July this year on the access highway to this road by a drunk driver that crossed the center line at noon on a holiday weekend and now another local rider lost his life last weekend when a car crossed the center and hit him head on at 50 mph each. The car driver it seems had a medical issue causing the accident but a barrier would have saved the rider at least. It does make some of us and our loved ones scared every time we start up our bikes. I would have been riding with Jana in July if I had not gone to a family reunion for my wife's family. http://www.timescolonist.com/news/Motorcyclists+demand+improved+safety+Malahat/5665455/story.html Be safe out there, I now a lot of you have parked for the winter but here riding is a 12 month a year hobby. Kevin
  25. My wife and I spent a week in Tennessee and had a great time. Left the bike at home but ended up on the Tail of the Dragon. We were at Cades Cove and took a secondary road out of the park and ended up on the Tail of The Dragon as got off the secondary road. I came around a corner and they were taking pictures. So, here's proof that I made it but it wasn't how I visioned it in my dreams!! Maybe next time it will be on a cycle!!!!
