  1. Monty

    BH Rally

This weekend is the International Boss Hoss Rally, and Mid-South Motorcycle Festival here in Paris, Tn. Great food, drink and lots of bikes. I have even met up with some Venture Riders, but only one that used to be a member here. I took a few pics... http://s74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/th_IMG_0034.jpg
  2. I'm thinking about riding down thru Western Pa Monday if anyone wants to meet up...
  3. I left 1- Tim Hortons at 4:15am 2- Met the OPP 911 Charity Ride 3- Opp blocking west bound Traffic 4- The Riders heading to OPP police College 5- Opps new BMW unmarked 6- 25kms from Home Dont ask:rotfl:
  4. So the real question here is: Would they be an interest in Riders monitoring a specific CB channel while riding that would allow riders traveling in different areas of the country to make quick, easy contact? It could be know as the VR channel by members. If there already is a desiginated channel, I appolize for not knowing. I ask because, I love to meet new Riders when I travel and I am planning my 4 week trip East for the month of September and don't want to miss meeting many of the members I have enjoyed on this site. Just wondering if there is a CB channel the VR riders frequent during travels. Years ago motorcycles would monitor channel 27 to communicate when traveling in different directions. I don't travel Interstates very often so I stay away from ch.19. I have tried to raise several motorcycle on channel 27, with no luck, guess ch.27 is old school and not monitored much any more. Please respond, I hate to miss a good place to eat, stay or just kick the tires with someone new.
  5. Why do some riders "bleep" the throttle (quick snaps of the wrist... "blatt blatt blatt") when sitting at a stop light -or- when starting to take off -or- when slowing down to a stop (not changing gears) -or- when slowly moving forward in stop & go traffic, etc etc??? I see no real purpose for this at all...maybe someone can educate me here. Or are these riders just not "educated" about this....what do they feel is being accomplished???
  6. Is Anyone from Ohio heading to the Skid 2 of us are leaving on Thursday AM sometime from Pataskala or the Canal Winchester area We will most likely take 33 down the cut across I would like to hook up some other riders We do plan to be there in plenty of time for the cookout.... followed by DQ
  7. Had a busy day yesterday.RC'd a PGR Mission which took the 1st half of the day. Then spent the better part of the afternoon organizing Riders for a Moving Wall Escort which began at 6:30PM. 2000 Vet riders participated in the Wall Escort. The City Mayor decided that NO bikers would be allowed to ride/park near the set-up location for the Wall. Guess he didn't want his chest-thumping speech about patriotism and loving Nam Vets to be disturbed by the sound of MC pipes. Local VFW Post has been crowing for weeks that all Escort Riders would be treated to a free meal after the Escort Ride was completed. When the Riders showed up at the Post there was nothing to eat except Bar snacks which were not free. The Post took the time to set up 3 portable Bars w/cash registers,Coolers. After 2 solid hours they finally got the grills fired up for hot dogs. By then most of the Riders had dropped a few dollars into the cash tills and were leaving to go eat elsewhere. Of the 800 Riders who initially rode to the VFW Post only 30 remained to chow down on the hot dogs served up. This morning I got reports that 3 Riders were involved in accidents on their scoots after leaving the VFW Post......before the food was served. I know the VFW Post made a killing with their Bar.....I just can't accept WHY they held off serving food in order to increase their Bar sales. Boomer.....who will always ride Escort for the Wall but won't drive into a VFW Post ever again.
  8. Hi, My 87 VR has had a problem with the rider's headset level adjustment (on the left handlebar). Symptoms: When turned all the way up it sounds fine. I would just use this setting, but it has more engine whine that way. As I turn it down notch by notch, the left speaker goes down more than the right, so it sounds like the music is shifting to the right. The second-highest notch (with the big dot) still sounds good in this regard; the shift is small at that point. Sometimes the sound starts breaking up, like a slightly bad cell phone connection. This is exacerbated by bumps or rough pavement. It never cuts out completely. Again, this does not apply to the max level. Wiggling the attenuator knob does not affect either symptom. Only applies to rider's headset. Passenger's has none of these symptoms. Dash speakers work fine. I don't really understand how these attenuators work. I thought of it as a variable resistor, but that doesn't make sense because if you unplug the attenuator line where it ties into the headset line, the level goes to max. I thought the level would go to zero with a broken circuit. At any rate, I've cleaned that connection and the attenator knob. Clearly something is loose due to the "bump" behavior. Help! Ideas? Anybody seen this before? Is the problem in the knob or its box and circuit card, or in the cable somewhere? Thanks, Jeremy
  9. We just checked in to the Oberlin. They have 5 rooms available for Friday and Saturday. The number is 440-775-1111. Tell them you are with venture riders.
  10. Is anyone going to maintenance day?
  11. Yesterday a buddy and I saddled up and hit the road at 7AM. From Connecticut we traveled North clear up to Vermont. On Route 89 in Vermont we hooked up with 1900 riders at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to do the Vermont Thunder Ride. Once the Ride began at 11:30 AM hundreds of other Riders joined in at various points. End result was that over FOUR THOUSAND Riders participated in Vermont Thunder. The Ride ended at Enosberg Vermont nearly 50 miles north of Montpelier(Capitol of Vermont). There was a short Ceremony honoring all Vets and our POW's still missing and unaccounted for from all past Wars. All total we rode over 700 miles yesterday. With the exception of riding in pouring down rain the 1st 45 miles of the Thunder Ride all else was EXCELLENT! The entire Ride route was lined with folks waving American Flags and cheering on the Riders. For anyone not doing the Rolling Thunder "Ride To The Wall" in Washington the Vermont Thunder Ride is more than worth the effort! This Ride is sponsored by both Rolling Thunder and the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. NO RIDERS FEES WHATSOEVER!! To those who have served or are still serving in our Armed Forces.......THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!! Boomer.......who damn well knows the price of freedom.
  12. Have the day off tomorrow supposed to be beautiful any Pa riders want to meet up for lunch or a ride? Let me know, plan on heading out about 8am. Craig
  13. I have picked up a screw in the back tire of my 2006 RSDT The tire only has about 1000 miles on it,is it okay to take it to a tire shop and have them plug it or not Just looking for some input from you experienced riders Thanks dkip
  14. So i was taking my wife to our local garden store this afternoon (any excuse to ride) and on our way back as i was approaching a very green light at a busy intersection, i saw roughly 30 Harley riders stoped at their red light to my right side. just as i was about to enter the intersection (running about 50 mph) the first rider just looked at me and pulled out, then the pack proceeded as well - these guys were the hardcore riders and tried to run us off the rode providing gestures and all that hooplah. about all i could do was slow down as the idiots passed me on the left & right just flying. they were headed to a club (bar) that hosts bikers events, even as we approached the event they still were dodging in front of me. is there some motorcycle etiquette that i violated by not stopping at my green light as the ran their red light? scared the dog doo outta my wife and kinda shook me up with these guys coming so close to us. anyone else had this type experience?
  15. Just a warning for those getting back on the scoots after a long Winter...... Benefit & Charity Runs are already popping up everywhere here in the New England Region. Be extra careful if you decide to participate! A lot of folks PLUS new riders don't know how to do group rides with a lot of skill. This always means there will be accidents between bike riders at these Events. Every Spring we also see a fair share of mistakes made at the Patriot Guard Missions as well. Stay alert out there guys. Boomer.....a Ride Captain who cares about all Riders.
  16. hOW MANY TRIKE RIDERS PLAN TO ATEND DONS MAINT. DAY IN JUNE? Jerry M.

  21. I am mapping out a long distance trip for next summer - something I have not yet done with the 05 Midnight as yet. I have done all the bike service and added the new tires, bought some good sun glasses and............... It seems to me however - many of you have done this long distance riding thing already- so I was wondering if all you long trip experienced riders might help a newbie in this area. If there were one or two things you would do differently, or one of two things you would have taken along or adjusted or whatever - that would have made the long distance ride more enjoyable (safer, more relaxing etc) ...what would those one or two things be???
  22. tToday our motorcycle ministry had our annual Christmas Ride for Kids. We bought and delivered gifts to kids who werent going to be fortunate enough to have a good holiday. These kids eyes lite up like you wouldn't believe. There was one little boy who had just had his leg amputated several weeks ago and bringing Christmas to him was truly inspiring, and seeing him tear into the gifts brought a tear to everyones eyes. I have posted a few pics of the kids. This is what Christmas special for me.......making some kids smile. This is an article that appeared in our local Newnan newspaper, that tells a little more of the story..........we had 19 bikes with elves riding plus 3 suv's and vans with all the gifts. A motorcycle club affiliated with Community Christian Church of Sharpsburg will brighten the lives of many Coweta families this year. In past years, the motorcycle club's Christmas Elf Riders have surprised 10 or 12 needy children with toys for Christmas. This holiday season, however, the riders went above and beyond. Jenny Baker, director of Connection Ministries at Community Christian Church, was amazed by what she saw. "Not only have the riders and their families stepped up to sponsor a child or two," says Baker, "but many have gone to their employers and asked for help. Thanks to the generosity of several companies, more than $2,000 in corporate sponsorship has been donated to CCR to help with this cause." Today at 10:30 a.m., the Christmas Elf Riders will gather on their bikes in the parking lot of Community Christian Church. They will be joined by "sleighs" -- vans filled with toys and other goodies, and will head out to distribute the gifts to the community. Because of the generous corporate donations, the motorcycle Santas will also surprise families with paid utility bills and gift certificates for food, gas and groceries. A few of the neediest families will also have their rent paid for the month.

  24. This was sent to me by my old friend Dan'l Lowery. I think it was posted long ago but is worth posting again. A LOT of truths here. Motorcycle Wisdom – Four wheels move the body. Two wheels move the soul. Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle. Life may begin at 30, but it doesn't get real interesting until about 90 mph! You start the game of life with a full pot o' luck and an empty pot o' experience... The object is to fill the pot of experience before you empty the pot of luck. If you wait, all that happens is that you get older. Midnight bugs taste just as bad as noontime bugs. Saddlebags can never hold everything you want, but they CAN hold everything you need. It takes more love to share the saddle than it does to share the bed. Blacktop or concrete is hard and hurts when you hit it at 55mph\\ The only good view of a thunderstorm is in your rearview mirror. Never be afraid to slow down. Don't ride so late into the night that you sleep through the sunrise. Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Riding faster than everyone else only guarantees you'll ride alone. Never hesitate to ride past the last street light at the edge of town. Never do less than forty miles before breakfast. If you don't ride in the rain, you don't ride. A bike on the road is worth two in the shed. Respect the person who has seen the dark side of motorcycling and lived. Young riders pick a destination and go... Old riders pick a direction and go. A good mechanic will let you watch without charging you for it. Sometimes the fastest way to get there is to stop for the night. Always back your bike into the curb, and sit where you can see it. Work to ride & ride to work. Whatever it is, it's better in the wind. Two-lane blacktop isn't a highway - it's an attitude. When you look down the road it seems to never end – but you'd better believe it does! Winter is Nature's way of telling you to polish. Keep your bike in good repair. Motorcycle boots are NOT comfortable for walking. People are like motorcycles: each is customized a bit differently. Sometimes, the best communication happens when you're on separate bikes. Good coffee should be indistinguishable from 50-weight motor oil. The best alarm clock is sunshine on chrome. The twisties - not the superslabs -separate the riders from the squids. When you're riding lead, don't spit. When your following, lookout for airborne objects A friend is someone who'll get out of bed at 2:00 am to drive his pickup to the middle of nowhere to get you when you're broken down. Catching a yellow-jacket in your shirt at 70 mph can double your vocabulary. If you want to get somewhere before sundown, you can't stop at any taverns. There's something ugly about a NEW bike on a trailer. Don't lead the pack if you don't know where you're going. Practice wrenching on your own bike. Everyone crashes. Some get back on. Some don't. Some can't. Don't argue with an 18-wheeler. Never be ashamed to unlearn an old habit. A good, long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel. If you can't get it going with bungee cords and electrician's tape, it's serious. If you ride like there's no tomorrow, there won't be. Bikes parked out front mean good chicken-fried steak inside. There are drunk riders. There are old riders. There are NO old, drunk riders. Thin leather looks good in the bar, but it won't save your butt from road rash if you go down. The best modifications cannot be seen from the outside. Always replace the cheapest parts first. You can forget what you do for a living when your knees are in the breeze. Patience is the ability to keep your motor idling. Biker's know why dogs stick their head out the window. There are two types of people in this world, people who ride motorcycles and people who wish they could ride motorcycles. Never try to race an old geezer; he may have one more gear than you. Gray-haired riders don't get that way from pure luck.
