  1. Hi all. Just felt i should toss this out there. A new rider in our club got a voyager kit, rode barely 1000 miles, got her license, and departed for an all day ride with about 200 other bikes. She is having an 8 hour surgery this Thursday to repair broken wrists, fingers, right arm, replace right shoulder. She has about 40 stitches in her face from the shield on her ff helmet. Numerous other cuts, bruises, etc. Tell all your trike riding friends, yes, you too can crash. Don't let your guard down just because you have three wheels. Yall ride safe, and say a prayer for my friend Debbie and her hubby Jerry.
  2. Anybody have a good handle on when we could experience fall colors? We had an early spring. We had a hot summer. Not much rain this year, kind of dry around here So does all this effect the fall colors? We're seeing spots of color already here and there. Want to plan a ride,,, but when?
  3. yesterday was a fantastic day in mo.. so i went out for breakfast on my stratoliner. 250 miles later i made it home. great ride. i could have made it another 200 miles but i had to get home for the honey dos. guess i'm in better shape than i thought. my butt never did get sore. the strat is the most comfortable ride i ever had with no mods. no back rest and oem seat.
  4. Just to let any members in the area know about a ride this saturday September 8th... This benefits the Fisher house which provides housing for military families and allows them to be close to their loved ones, while they are in the hospital....... Shari and I will be coming down for this ride....
  5. http://ride.autismspeaks.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=1003036Is anyone else riding in this?? http://ride.autismspeaks.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=1003036 We ride in it every year, give us a shout if you are going
  6. I'll be riding Western Colorado a bit over Labor Day Weekend! I'll leave Orem, Ut. Saturday morning, Provo Canyon to Heber, East through Wolfe Creek Pass and on to Vernal Utah where I'll meet up with a new friend & his wife, and we'll ride all the way around Flaming Gorge. I'll stay with them that night. Sunday morning I'll ride Dinosaur National Monument, Co., and then to Rangely, Co., where my uncle lives. I'll go to church with them, spend the rest of the day with them, and spend that night with them. Monday I'll ride South on 139 Lost Highway, Douglas Pass, & down to (through) Colorado National Monument (Past Fruita), through Grand Junction, SouthEast & then South on 65 through Mesa & to Cedaredge, U-turn back to I-70 East, North at Rifle up 13, & West on 64 near Meeker back to Rangely for the night. Tuesday I'll head back West through Vernal and go SouthWest at Duchesne through Indian Canyon to Helper, North West on Highway 6 through Soldiers Summit and on back home through Spanish Fork Canyon. I figure a little over 1100 ride miles. If anyone out there is interested in meeting up or riding part of the ride with me, email me at dougnrdn@gmail.com. Doug Nordin
  7. We finally have rain. I will not complain because I know some of our friends down South have had a very hard time from Isaac. I hope things improve for you folks and pray you are all surviving. We are listening to the weather people, who sort of ruined our Saturday. We believed them so we did not go to the Rabbit Hash event we always ride to. It did not rain until 8 or 9 PM. We could have gone. Yesterday we caged it to an event across town. It rained going there, but when we got there it was fine. Today so far it is solid rain. So we have to wait and see. Oh well there is always next year. But I admit I am selfish and want to ride really bad. Yama Mama:smile11:
  8. Ok I just rode through town with issac blowing and not going I will down load pics as soon as I can
  9. The last time I was on vacation was May of last year. I need a break. So, I spent the last 2 months planning a wonderful 2 week 4000 mile ride for my wife and I to begin this coming Friday, but, guess who's coming to dinner? ISAAC! We were going to ride through Tennessee, ride The Dragon, and several other fabulous roads in the Smokey Mtn's, then ride all the way to the Outer Banks and spend a few days. Then, head up to Gettysburg, back through WV, Kentucky, and home. I've been glued to the Weather Channel trying to get a read as to where Mr. Isaac is headed. Is it going more east, or more west? Well, I did a check while on my lunch today, and the freakin thing is now predicted after battering our friends to the south in La, and Ms, to head STRAIGHT AT US, dropping boat loads of rain and t-storms Thursday night, Friday, and Saturday. I've been mulling around the idea of leaving after work Thursday afternoon and ride as far as we can get going northeast toward Evansville In. to try and go around the top of it before it gets up that way. Not sure that's a good idea. the dang storm is so big it looks like it's going to sling t-storms full of rain all the way to NC for days. Also have serious thought's of changing everything and leaving Thursday afternoon and heading west to Okla, Tx, NM, Co, Ut, and Ariz. Hmmmm, what must I do.........
  10. OK your busted Miller47 shame on you for getting such a big head start on the Eureka Springs Meet & Eat and leaving us here to ride in the rain all by ourselves. Hey that scoot and trailer looked good going down the road. You two have a safe ride up and hopefully will see you there. Issac may be weakening some
  11. We are visiting our home resort of Massanutten in Virginia. We trailered the bike up with us and yesterday rode the Skyline Drive...what a great ride! Was going to post photos, but I cannot seem to get them down to the size that will upload.
  12. Starting on Oct. 1st, Barb and I will be travelling with some friends, heading west from Illinois and ending up in Albuquerque in time for the Balloon Fiesta. Our daughter lives in Albuquerque, and we were out there last year for the Fiesta. We live in northern Illinois, and our friends live in the southern tip, so it'll probably be best for us to meet near St. Louis, and head west to Colorado Springs. I've already decided that I want to ride through Wolf Creek Pass (again), and then like C.W. Mcall says in the song, end up in downtown Pagosa Springs, and from there we'll travel down to Sante Fe, and into Albuquerque. Something else I'd like to do is to ride up Pikes Peak. Is this too late in the year to think of doing that on a bike, or is there a posibilty that the freshly paved road up will be snow free? Any other suggestions of things to do in south west Colorado? We went to Sante Fe & Los Alamos last year, but our friends have never stopped there, so that's a stop we'll take. Also in the plans are to ride south from Albuquerque and visit Roswell. Anybody know of anything else to see in New Mexico?? Frank D.
  13. Mike Traynor, president and co-founder of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and co-founder of the Ride for Kids® motorcycle charity program, died Sept. 12, 2009, in Asheville, N.C., after a brief illness. He was 70. http://www.pbtfus.org/miketraynor/ May this good soul and kind man Rest In Peace... TERRY
  14. Is anyone planing on attending this ride that has not signed up on the events calendar? I need to know so we can adjust the reservations for breakfast and dinner.
  15. We decided to take a ride to Raceman67's to do some preseason scouting in the deer woods yesterday. It was a nice little ride for about 50 miles with a short trip by wally world for some food plot seed. We walked the property, threw some seed and walked back up to John's house just in time to catch John and Melinda with some friends kicking it on the rear deck. Being the gracious host that they are, we were immediatly welcomed and included in the festivities. One thing led to another and after grilled munchies and wings on the Green egg it got pretty late. So, the ride back at around 11:00 was down the country road where we had nailed a ten point buck with the Chevy Cavelier a couple of years ago. With that memory on my mind we rode back with the lights and the radio blaring as fair warning to any deer thinking about playing motorcycle tag. The ride back ended up being non eventful and by the time I hit the bed my lights were out in less than a minute. Been a while since I slept so good.
  16. I have an 83 Royale & a 2000 RSV MM. I owned an 81 Venture for about 16 years and then sold it at the instance of my wife. (wish I still had it). I"ve had my 83 for about 7 yrs and my RSV MM for 2yrs. Ride them both but have ridden my 83 on most of my long distance trips. I decided to change up my routine this year and rode the RSV to Sturgis for the first time. After completing my trip, I made several observations. I'm curious what others have noticed in their own experiences. First: 83 is nimble, agile, corners easilty with great balance; has quite a bit of zip and is extremely comfortable for the long ride. In contrast the RSV is awkward, difficult to corner, seems not just top heavy but front end heavy, in fact, the front end shimmies at times particularly at lower speeds on the way to HWy speeds. I took my left hand off the bar for a second & the front end began to shake so bad it spilled coffee all over the bike that was secured in my mounded beverage holder. Overall ride on the 83 is much smoother and the bikes handles way better then the 2000 RSV. Other differences: 83 has voltmeter, tach, full set of guages, on-board compressor for automatic ride leveling system; 2000 doesn't have any of these. Only difference I saw where the RSV out performed the 83 was in the sound system. Much better in the 2000 with the addition of the rear speakers; when listening to the speakers and not the headset, it has a quadraphonic sound quality. Earlier this spring I mentioned to the shop foreman, that I enjoyed riding the 83 Royale over the 2000 RSV. They didn't have a lot of background on Ventures & didn't believe me until they had worked on both and taken both for test rides. After that, they agreed that the 83 was a much smoother & better handling bike & couldn't believe all the amenities that the 83 came stock with over the present RSVs. The 83 really was ahead of it's time. IMO, the only way to improve on the existing RSV is to make it more commensurate with the 1st Gens! Just curious what others may think.
  17. I found a nice used toyhauler, so I took the plunge. I'm hoping I can get the wife to come along to some of the places I normally ride like Sturgis. It sure would would be nice to spend some of that time with her. I can do a little riding while out there. But since she wont ride at all, its my only chance. Heres a few pics. Its a 2005 26 foot U.S. Cargo. Its heavy, so I added a equalizer/anti sway hitch as well. Should be fun!
  18. Here are the pictures I promised you of my new used '87 First Gen. Hope you approve of it.
  19. Just posted on the events calander. We are planning a Finger Lakes Ride. Nothing fancy just show up and ride, with a few stops for site seeing, food and shopping. More info to follow.
  20. Are there any other members of this forum that will be riding on this years....37th annual...Three Flags Classic ride ???? If so, give me a shout, and we can meet up in El Paso on Thursday, just to say, Howdy. I will be leaving my house on Tuesday morning, and riding straight through to El Paso...about 1,775 miles one way. I should be there by Wednesday morning, as it should take me about 24 hours to ride that 1,775 miles. If there are any other 3FC riders here, just look for the very dirty Black RSTD in the parking lot, and that will be me, trying to wipe off a few of the bugs collected along the way.
  21. A guy I know is selling this '82 Wing Interstate, and I thought some of you more knowledgeable 1st gen guys would like to see it. It's a sweet little ride, but I have no idea if it's worth what he's asking. Just curious. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/wat/mcy/3220528461.html
  22. On Wednesday, 8/22/12, our son Dan is moving out to attend Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, SD to study auto mechanics. Doreen and I are both saddened by this and at the same time very happy. Dan has a good head on is shoulders and we did the best we could to prepare him for the "Real World" out there. Sioux Falls is only an hour drive from Madison and he will be coming back most weekends, if nothing else to see his girlfriend and do his laundry. Hope he has some time for a ride while the weather permits. I already have standing orders to ride his Nighthawk once in a while just to keep it limbered up. He has plans to eventually open his own shop and is thinking about calling it "BENDT RODS". Stay Safe, Dave
  23. Deb and I are going for a weekend ride next week. Where you ask? Where ever the front wheel takes us. Looking for anyone that would like to join us. We live near Joliet, Ill. As of now, we have no plans other than to leave about 9 or 10 am on Sat and be back home sometime Sunday afternoon/evening. Basically, we will ride till we are tired and then try to find a room, then get up and do it again till we get home. Looking for something scenic and slow. No bar hopping or spending hours in a parking lot shooting the breeze. Don't get me wrong, we enjoy jaw jacking from time to time but this ride will be about the ride.
  24. Completed a "happier" mission today. Welcomed back for a Chief Petty Officer from his 2nd tour in Afghanistan. Seeing his wife and son hugging him home, was well worth the time spent on the flag line at the airport. Watching all the other passengers clapping as he walked through the flag line to his family was priceless. I challenge everybody to join their local chapter of the PGR. Yes, some of the Missions are sad. Escorting the body of my friend Sgt Brian Walker was the hardest motorcycle ride I have ever taken. But, the look of appreciation, the handshakes and the thank you's from family members are payment in gold. It's an incredible group of people serving those who have served us. I now ride in honor of two heroes that I knew. So, join. It's free. You don't have to be ex-military, heck you don't have to even ride. Just be willing to stand as a thank you for those who have stood for us. Check it out: http://www.patriotguard.org/Home/tabid/53/Default.aspx The only piece of equipment that is a must have, is a big DARK pair of sunglasses. It helps hide the "allergies."
  25. Hello any update on the Wisconsin Leaf Lookers ride this Year? thanks
