  1. I just got my seat back from Rick Butler... I have not been able to ride yet cuz of the flooding rain here in Oklahoma. But it sure LOOKS like an outstanding job. And just to sit on her in the garage has a real nice feel under the ol keester. I just wanted to publicly THANK YOU Rick for a great job... and also check this out... I sent it on Monday of this week and got it back on Friday... how's that for a quick turn-around??? AND... since Rick says I overpaid him (and who am I to disagree, right?) He'd be glad to send a set of his seat nuts that require no wrench to remove. JEEZ! I feel like I've just hit the lottery! Well maybe not the LOTTERY, but I AM a winner! Thanks again Rick for a super job!
  2. Okay, I just got back from Dallas a while ago. What a great ride! Comfy, painless, and smooth! Rick Butler did a great job on my seat and I think it may have renewed some of his interest in the 1st Gen seats. As if I cared a lot about that... I was in hog ,er, I mean Royale heaven on the way home! I mean it - Before I was in pain before 100 miles passed. Today's ride was about 400 miles and I had no pain at all. That means a lot to me. Rick is also a wealth of knowledge on our bikes and I had a great time talking with him. Rick, I hope I didn't distract you too much. I just wish we had a chance to go for a ride together. Oh, well, there's always the International Rally! Can't wait to meet some more of you folks there. Thanks again, Rick!
  3. hey guys & ladys, just wanted to let you know that I have a compleat set of seats -taken off of my 05 - for sale. The driver seat has had the RICK BUTTLER touch- rick made it a little shorter for me and I like the way it sets. they are in good shape, the pass=seat has only about 500 butt miles:hurts: anyway, I got another seat I want to try so I'm going to sell these .. I probbley will wish I did't' cause rick did such a good job fixing it. If any one wants to talk about it just pm me. it is a pillow top. thanx jack
  4. I know it's been said many time on here, but I would not feel right it I did not give Rick Kudos for working on my seat. We just returned from the international rally on Sunday (we took an extra week in Hot Springs) and there is no way I could have made that trip before getting my seat worked on. 16 days and 3,600 miles in all. I know that is not a lot for some people, but before getting the seat worked I had a hard time riding gas stop to gas stop. I would have to say that is now my favorite mod since getting the RSV 2 years ago. Also, it is probably the cheapest!
  5. Hey Guys, Does anyone have a reputable company they would suggest to get this GXM Antenna from, for under $200? Thanks, Rick
  6. I'm sending my stock seat and passenger seat to Rick for his mod. Can anyone who has done this let me know what size box you need and the weight or any other things I need to know. Thanks
  7. I just got my modified seats back from Rick yesterday. I love it! Thanks Rick. I only rode 10 miles to work this morning but the seat feels great. From the first day I bought my Venture in 2006 I wished they would have done a better job in shaping the seat. Rick has it right! I can't wait to try a longer ride. I sat on the rear seat while the bike was in the garage and can't really comment on the difference because I only rode back there once or twice for a short distance. My wife Maureen has not been able to ride with me since her car accident last August. At this point she is still not phisically able to ride yet. She will still need to deal with the emotional side of things. After rolling her car five times she is aprehensive about riding again but she is determined to do it! Thanks again, Rick. I would definitely recomend this modification as "Money well Spent" Dave
  8. I just got my seat back friday and you did a great job thanks again!! I do want to give a warning out there I went to put the seat back on and I put the bolts and stuff were I wouldnt lose them now I cant for the life of me remeber were I put them and the seat bolts are tapered so I have to order some. I just cant win for losing sometimes. Thanks again Rick and I hope to get alot of use out of it this summer.
  9. Here is an Ebay item that I am planning on bidding on http://desc.shop.ebay.com/items/__Yamaha-Venture?LH_TitleDesc=1&_nkw=%22Yamaha%20Venture%22&_trkparms=66%253A2%257C65%253A1%257C39%253A1&_dmpt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&_sop=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_pgn=2#item360141365917 This is a binder with the Ventureline accessories in it. I was thinking I would get it and scan all the information in it to a set of PDF files and post them here in the forum for everyone to be able to access so they can use for their needs. Let me know if you think it is a good idea or not. Thanks Rick F.
  10. Thanks Rick. I have put on about 600 miles on the bike since I put the "new" seat. Was not easy with the Jersey weather and it's awsome. I can now ride with out the butt ache. Made a huge difference for me. My butt and I both thank you from the bottom of our ...well...bottoms. Thanks again Rick. Bill
  11. I just wanted to express my appreciation for the excellent work Rick did on my seat. I got the seat back yesterday (FedEx made this more difficult than necessary). It looks and feel great even though the weather won't let me get it out and ride yet. **How is it you guys in PA can look at a groundhog on 2/2 and we start getting snow again in Utah?** I want everyone to know that Rick goes beyond just making a couple of changes to your seat and putting the cover back on. My seat had some challenges because of some previous damage by the PO and Rick took the time and added work to sure it was right. THANKS AGAIN!!! I'll let you know how great it is when the weather cooperates. Dave (with PMS)
  12. Went to the dealer today to get my oil changed and was browsing around and seen that they had a luggage rack for the Venture so i also bought it and had it installed. It looks awesome on the bike and will be very helpful on trips, can't wait to put it to use! I also got in about 200 miles today to give Rick Butler's seat mod a good test too, and i give him an A+ on the comfort of the seat and his work. What a great day!!!
  13. I got the Seat nuts and the bag bolts - gonna make things easier. Now all I have to do is figure out how to get the seat off - gotta be a couple nuts somewhere:whistling: Thanks Rick for the GREAT ideas and fast shipping
  14. anybody hear from rick lately ? he emailed me when he came back about my seats sent him & email back about doing them & havn't heard anything He is usallly good about replies .hope everything Ok Bill
  15. I was looking at http://www.oldbikebarn.com and see they have some parts for the first gens. I see they have carb boots and the slide diaphragms for the carbs. Has anyone dealt with this company before and if so, what was your experience. Thanks Rick F
  16. I know it is a little late, but anyone interested in the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show, here is a $3 discount coupon you can print out for yourself. http://motorcycle.progressive.com/IMS-Admission-Discount-Coupon.pdf Hope you enjoy the show. Rick F.
  17. After 3 days of 40F temps I am no longer ice bound!! Took the scoot out on the road today and nailed down a solid 4 hour ride. The seat mod that Rick Butler did is just PERFECT and added to my extreme pleasure. Boomer.....with a grin from ear to ear. Note to Mother Nature: Pfffffffffffttttttttttt and in yer ear!
  18. Just got my seat back from rick and i must say i really like the way my seat turned out. I would tell everyone to get this mod. done to your seat , so again thank you rick you saved my butt and it thank's you also.
  19. Howdy Just acquired on my birthday, a 05 RSTD in great shape after being a VTX guy. Huge upgrade. Live in Northern Nevada been riding since 1968 (YR1) from Nortons to HD to BMWers but back to the Metrics for class. I'd like to shave my OEM seat and hear that Rick Butler does a fantastic job of contouringn the seat to let you ride the bike. Any info would be great. Thanks in advance Norm
  20. ...dual 20" Cinema screens. Bad choice (in a way). It is a pair of modded early CB750's. One on each screen. Now I am thinking (bad rick, bad rick). I need two of them in the garage as his and her bikes. No you do not need a refill. Yes you do. No you don't. yes yes yes. Ok I win.
  21. A couple of weeks ago I put in a new set of Progressive springs in the front forks and purchased one for the rear shock. Some showed an interest in how the rear spring would affect the ride. Well the new rear spring is on the bike and it makes a huge difference in the ride. The directions from Progressive say that you only need about half as much air on the rear with this new spring. Well, my air compressor doesn't work so even though there is no pressure on the shock it still rides 10 times better than before the spring change. Wish I had done it 10 years ago. I got the front and rear spring from Rick Hafferkamp at Buckeye Precision. He had them in stock at the time. Rick also installed the rear spring for me also at a very reasonable price. If you need parts, or if you are in the Cincinnati area and need work, Rick is the man to see. Very knowledgeable on these bikes and his prices are hard to beat. He can be reached here: http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/ Dick :)
  22. I have replaced my installation instructions for the Bulter Mod with some very good instructions that Rick was nice enough to put together. You can find them here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=116327#post116327
  23. I posted this in another thread but decided it would be best served in a thread of its own. As some here have stated before, and I agree 100%, the rear brakes on these bikes are WAY to sensitive. Some have argued that if you truly get to know your bike that it's not a problem but many have reported locking the rear brake in a panic situation. I know that I have done so a couple of times. The rear brakes just lock up way to easily and that is NOT a good thing. I've known Rick for a long time and though I don't profess to be a Venture expert, much of what I've learned about both the first and second gen Venture, I learned from Rick. He has been riding these bikes since they came out in '83 and I do consider him to be an expert on them. Rick has built SS Ventures and come up with a lot of good ideas where the Ventures are concerned. Rick realized early on that the rear brakes left a lot to be desired. I'll let him tell how he came to that conclusion in his own mind but after doing so, he set out to improve the system. He started out trying to link the front and rear as the first gen Ventures were. That turned out to not be the best solution though. He then came up with a system that incorporates a proportioning valve inline to the rear caliper and said that the rear braking is drastically improved. He send me one to test and evaluate on my own bike and it came while I was in Fort Collins. It will be an easy install and I'll get it done next weekend and try it out. I will then report my feelings about it here. If I'm as impressed with it as Rick is, then he plans to put it together as a kit and sell it to anybody who wants it. It is Rick's opinion that the system is good enough that it could actually save somebodies life. I know Rick well enough that if he is that confident with it, then I certainly want it on my bike.
  24. I'm about to install the Flanders and new lines that I ordered a few months ago. Can't seem to find the install instructions I thought I'd printed off. Anyone know if there's installation instructions posted here or where? I've sent an email to Rick as well since I couldn't remember if he'd sent them to me...........good grief the memory ain't what it used to be... Thanks for any help!
