  1. Got my seats and bag bolts via ups today. I wanted to publicly thank Rick for the great work and speedy turn around time. I sent the seats last Tuesday and got them back today. They were in town on Friday according to the tracking #. The seats look great! You would be hard pressed to notice a change without sitting on them. No real ride time on them yet but for the short trip today they felt great! Thanks Rick! Frank
  2. OK folks, it has come to my attention that the area that I created in the classifieds for our member vendors may not have been a good idea. I created that area to make it easy to find our members who also offer us some pretty nice products at good prices. I am now hearing though that it is making their products harder to find. For example, if you didn't KNOW that Rick Butler offers seat mods for motorcycles, it would be hard to find it. You would have to open Member Vendors and then click on Rick Butler to even find out what he offers our members. So, should I get rid of that area and just move the ads back to their respective categories?
  3. I have had the LED tail lights (from CruiserCustomizing.com)sitting on my desk for several months. I looked at doing the install myself, but chickened out, as I am not the most mechanically minded rider on the road. Then I met Rick through this site. He lives 10 minutes from me. We had a coffee, and he offered to help with the install. So... today we did it. Four and a half hours, including going out for a replacement bulb, as I dropped one, only to find that they do not bounce on concrete. The running lights and signal lights look great, but there is no change when the brake is applied. I can live with that. I will probably get an LED Brake light one day in the future. HUGE thanks to Rick for the use of is tools, garage, lift, and most of all, his knowledge and confidence in tackling this job.

  5. I think I have found the perfect custom leather work for my motorcycle. Aces High Leather has completed my first job and it is posted on her website at http://www.acehighleathers.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1&Itemid=56 My bike is the bottom mud flap and I am going to have her do one for my Roadstar also. another picture is also located at http://www.acehighleathers.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53&Itemid=54 She is great and the turn around time was less than a week. Can't beat that with a STICK. I am going to use her for all my leather work. Rick A A Man of Few Words.
  6. If we (my wife and I) wanted to host a meet and eat at our house what would I need to do other than the obvious. (let everyone know when and were) Any info would be great. Thanks Rick
  7. Just wanted to share our wonderful Christmas with all of you... http://s393.photobucket.com/albums/pp16/SilvrT/xMas%202010/ We hope ya'll had an equally enjoyable one and wish all the best to everyone here in 2011. - Rick & Nina
  8. Finally was time to change out my front tire. I had waited as long as I could for someone to do a write up on changing the fork oil. No luck! So after consulting Rick Butler and learning a lot, through him, about springs and what my particular bike, 05' RSTD, might need I dove in. Changed the fork oil using Mobil 1 synthetic ATF fluid http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-507141.html. I came across this after not being able to find synthetic 10w at the mc shop. Besides I'm partial to Mobil 1! Re packed the steering head bearings. Was gonna install a zerk (greese) fitting http://www.gadgetjq.com/harpo_steeringlube.htm but after seeing the big void plus the hole inside the tube decided that was truly a waste of good Honda Poly and abandoned that task. Installed new springs from Sonic Springs http://www.sonicsprings.com/catalog/product_reviews.php?cPath=27_117&products_id=347&osCsid=0a06f0a4aa631489ed84cc17fad8f92d. Learned thru Rick and also Rich Desmond, from Sonic Springs, how to pre - load a spring and how obtain the the correct amount of fork oil. Installed new front tire. http://www.jakewilson.com/productDetail.do?navTitle=Motorcycle+Tires&webCatId=57&navType=type&webTypeId=443&prodFamilyId=22916&listingId=&sizeAttr=5289 Mounting of that tire, along with the dyna beads, was the only thing I did not do myself! My thoughts: Love the new heavy duty springs. My bike no longer nose dives when brakes are applied! The steering stem nut takes a 27mm socket. 2 trips to the store to figure that one out. Could not find the size in the manual, on line, or in any thread I researched. Oh so thankful that I don't have a fairing!!! Should remove gas tank next time. Moving the handle bar around got hairy sometimes. Took 2 days. Have to let the old oil drain overnight! Glad I had Rick to hold my hand otherwise this wanna be mc mechanic would have screwed up. Sonic Springs really stepped up to the plate and responded quickly to my questions and concerns Once again a very special thank you Rick Butler!!!!
  9. Rick Mercer is a Canadian comedian who likes to go out into communities and do some activites there and have some fun with the locals. This week he was in Shannonville Ontario with a bunch of people racing their modified motorcycles and sidecars. The Rick Mercer Report is one of my favourite shows as he just goes out and has fun wherever he goes. Brian http://www.youtube.com/mercerreport#p/c/0289C71A11404509/38/GNritwnjZnc
  10. OK I am leaving the Peoria, Il area Tuesday Morning the 21st to ride up to St Paul, MN to reconnect with a sister I have not seen in 31 years. I was wondering if anyone can suggest roads to ride up that way that are great for riding. I am planning on leaving around 6:30 am and do not need to be there until around 7:00 pm so want to enjoy my ride up. Doesn't have to be exactly the best way but want to see the sights on my way up and back. I will be returning Thursday the 23rd. Anyone not doing anything and want to ride a little bit let me know where to meet you and you and I can ride a ways up before you have to turn around. Any info will be great. Thanks Rick
  11. Does anyone know where these are available to buy? I can't seem to find them anymore. I just sent an email to Rick at Buckeye Performance since some old threads mention him but they aren't listed on his site.
  12. Anyone out there with a Midnight drivers seat who is looking to have Rick Bulter do his seat mod let me know as I'll trade you even up. While the Mrs loves her seat mod Rick did to the passenger seat I've found that I really prefered the firmer original drivers seat. My bike has the studs on the seats so will require the same when trading. Thanks, Larry
  13. Made it home Sun. afternoon, after going to MD at Don & Eileen's.Had a great time meeting everyone, rode up there with B2dad,B2mom,Monty,Angel,Scarry Larry,Double D, Wanderer,(a great bunch of folks) My wife & I. took our vac. time and extended the ride. Went to Va. and rode back down the Skyway & the BRP, (met up with Painterman67 & Shadow queen on the parkway),into the Smokies, then down to Anniston,Al to spend some time with one of our daughters and our son-in-law.Went to Cheaha State Park there and found another Rally so had to join in there too.Have to get seats to Rick Butler, don't know if butt could have stood much more:bawling:. Some of the prettiest country we ever saw. Can't wait to go back and do some of it again, after seat mod is done.
  14. Friend of mine Bob (Mariner Fan) talked to me about taking my seat with him so Rick can do his magic on my seat. I e-mailed and sent PM's to Rick. Rick wanted to do a very limited # of seats so he and his wife could take time and enjoy MD. I completely missed some important info. in one of his pm's until I re-read it a few days later. I responded back to him and Rick agreed anyway to do my seat. Just wanting to let Rick know I really appreciate him taking extra time out from MD to also do my seat. I got my seat from Bob on Saturday and got in a 45-60 minute ride. So far so good. It will get a really good test ride when I head to Chattanooga TN in about 3 weeks.
  15. Rick you out did your self on this one. I wanted to wait till I got a few miles on but I love it. Just a little information on this. I got my corbin seat reworked by Rick to help on the comfort level. Corbins are known for being hard and not butt friendly. Last year I sent it back to corbin to get it done with a less dense foam and it helped a little but this year I sent it off to Rick for some magic. He was very concerned when he sent it back to me that I would not be happy mainly because it looked a little puffy. At this time he decided that he would do no more Corbins. Yes it does look a little puffy but by no means bad. Let me say this seat is now great. Rick you did a great job and I hope you continue to fix this butt buster and make them as nice as mine. Scotty
  16. Oh my goodness!!!!:dancefool:What a difference!!!! Got them back on last night and headed out for about a hour ride on Old Mission Peninsula and WOW. Its like a totally different seat. So much more comfortable!! I have to say this is probably the best upgrade I have done to the pearl thanks so much Rick you really saved my a**!!! Bring on that Saddlesore1000!!!!!!!
  17. All I can say is WOW! Rick worked over the driver and passenger seats for me a while back and I just now had a chance to get the bike out and the difference is awesome. My wife and I rode about 150 miles today and we both could tell a lot of difference. I am leaving on a 2,500 mile trip in a couple of weeks and this seat modification is going to make it much more enjoyable. Also, his turnaround time is second to none. It was just one week from the time I sent to seats to Rick until I had them back on my front porch. Thanks Rick, you do nice work.
  18. I have an 84 Venture Royale in the tan/cream color and I am looking for some of the faring parts. Any idea where I might find them? thanks Rick
  19. I just got my V Star back from servicing at the stealer, didnt make out too bad, but thats not what this post is about, I took the bags off of the V Star when I took it in, so I figured I would check with Rick Butler about his saddle bag screws for the RSV. He said they would fit and its was a wise investment, it was a snap putting the bags back on without any tools, they come from the factory with allen screws and its a pain to take them off and reinstall them, not now. I recommend anyone who owns a V Star 1300 Tour get these, you wont regret it. Thanks again to Rick Butler for another fine product by one of our talented members..............
  20. Sent a couple of seats over to Rick at the beginning of the week (3/8/10) along with a 'heads up' email... Since then I have been unable to reach him by email, phone or forum pm.. I'm sure somebody on the forum must be in contact with him... Het Rick... Are you out there, bud? Is everything ok?
  21. I thought I'd share my recent experience with the Famous Rick Butler Bag Bolts & Seat Thumb Nuts. I communicated with Rick to buy them on Saturday... Paid Rick with PayPal on Saturday... Rick shipped them on Saturday... I received them on Monday... Installed them today (Tuesday)... They stuff works great as described & Rick's performance for shipping is fantastic. I'd recommend this stuff to all. JohnB
  22. Anyone had any dealings with cyclepartswarehouse.com out of Texas. I was noticing their prices were cheaper on some of the 1st gen items then Flatouts were so I thought I would give them a try. Thanks.. Rick F.
  23. Hey guys, It seems like the seats I have reworked recently, the individuals have sent me an e-mail asking if I still did this. Some of these have heard about me from friends or other sources. But many are members of this forum, where I'm guessing that many of you do not know (or forgotten) that I have an ad in the Classifieds under 2nd Gen Accessories: http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/1023/cat/7 Well I say ad? A while back Don was helping me with it when I was having a problem with some of it getting truncated. And his response was "Rick, this isn't an ad....it's a freakin novel". I'll admit I sometimes get carried away, but I feel too much is better that not enough? Anyway I thought I would just remind everyone of this ad. Even though I've done seats all year, I'm starting to get busy as you folks up north start putting your bikes up for the winter. And for now I'm only an exclusive to the Venture Riders, so I'm really your secret....unless you want to send me a friend who needs help. I've never turned away a referral. Thanks, Rick Oh, I've finally got my first Corbin. I't sad that it's off a 1000 VStrom instead of a Venture. But I'll let you know how it goes and what's really under the cover.
  24. when you're wrong about something you ought to admit it ! well i was wrong about the seats Rick Butler modified and the tour pak back rest cushions. i originally thought i would like the results ...but i was wrong...... I LOVE IT !! after being unable to ride for the past three month (during that time Rick did the mods) today my wife & i rode to Clarksville Va. for lunch - what a beautiful day and ride - the lunch was awesome (pepperoni & sausage lasagna). it was a 225 mi. round trip and my butt and especially my tailbone never bothered me. i could only get about 50 mi. before the mod and my butt & tailbone were aching and needing a break... you can spend the big bucks on all the fancy seats but the $40 for the seats is the best money i've spent on my bike. Thank you Rick Butler for the great job and the great service you provide to us here on VentureRider.
  25. I have been trying to conect with rick for 4 days via email an phone with no luck has anyone heard from him lately? Thanks steve durr
