  1. Thursday, June 26, 2008, is the first West Virginia Skid-In began! Tune in later for more details, pics, and more interesting stories, as the "Rest of the Story" will follow..... I am excited!
  2. Hi Folks: I have a high beam indicator with a mind of it's own. Blue light works if it feels like it and takes a break whenever... Sometimes after I've been out for awhile it will come on then works fine for the rest of the ride. Temperature and dampness do not seem to matter. Any ideas? Wayne
  3. A couple of us from the Pocono area will be heading down south on Sat. 6/21 to ride the Tail Of The Dragon. We plan on riding it mid week and being tourists around NC Tenn and VA the rest of the time. No solid plans yet, but we will stay out 8 or 9 days.
  4. Well bike is in the garage , no riding for a while stuck whit Bell's palsy , Complete half of the face paralysed .Doc said it would probably be OK in a few weeks but for now a lot of rest .How much rest do I need I'm retired LOL,,,,,,,,. Anyway got to take it easy if I want to be able to attend the rally in Kitchener . Man now the wife is laughing at me ,she says that I look like an old bull dog ,I'm fat grumpy and I drooling all over the place ,,,,, :rotf:
  5. hi, I am in desperate need of a drivers back rest for my 84 xvz12. If you have one to sell, please let me know, or if you know where I can order one, I would be greatful, my back is killing me and making it difficult to ride. thanks Gord
  6. Insurance, Insurance, Insurance, here's the story. Got my first insurance with Kingsway 2004 approx. $525.00 2005 $625.00 2006 $700.00 2007 $900.00 & some so I got a new agent, Dalton Tiimis from Ancaster at $580.00 also insured through Kingsway. This year they quote $680.00 Riders Plus $659.00 this year So I called the agent that does all the rest of our insurance who said before that they couldn't quote MC and they now do through Economical, but only if you are a long time client $549.00 Nice, it save me $110.00.
  7. Okay, looks like somebody started something and it probably won't end here. One thread asked how many (Active/Retired LEO's in the group) and after this one, somebody will probably ask how many mechanics, etc, etc. But anyway, have had my Class A license for 43 years and have driven just about everything there is right up to 80,000 lbs. I won't tell you about the real overweight trucks I've driven. But did it for 33 years and took a long rest (retired, of which I only drove half a dozen trucks in 10 years of retirement. Went back to work after financial problems, so went back to what I know best and have been driving big rigs again for almost 3 years now. Cadillac's to what I ever drove back in the old days with much more power. :>)
  8. I am currently re-installing a stock exhaust system on a 1984 Venture. When I install the rear header pipes into the head 'stubs' and secure them with the clamps, the header pipes still move freely back and forth. This seems crazy to me, and I am reluctant to continue assembling of the rest of the exhaust system until I can confirm this is OK or figure out what I am doing wrong. Can someone set me straight? Confused in Michigan.....John:confused24:
  9. First of all I would like t say thanks to Don and Linda for comming down yesterday, was great to get to meet the both of you. Also would like to say thanks to all of the rest of you for all you have done and the moral support. From me and mine thanks. Rattlesnake
  10. Can someone please help me find a back rest for my 07 RSV? Thank you, Sky Pilot
  11. Sleeperhawk led Wildhair out this morning around 8:00 a.m. We had a great visit with Lowell - but poor guy, he had to endure a Texas Longhorn basketball game:crying: but was able to enjoy a Kansas Jayhawk basketball victory:thumbsup:! After having getting in at midnight Saturday night, it was great to sleep in Sunday morning and just laze around the rest of the day! Sleeperhawk and I want to thank everyone for being there for us Saturday during our Mis-Ad-Venture. It once again hits home how wonderful our "Family" is. Beer was ready to come get us (7 hours one way) with his trailer. One of the guys who stopped and helped block traffic for us when we pushed the bike off the highway was amazed that someone was willing to drive that far. I told him that we had some wonderful friends. Then out of the blue, here comes Royalstarjack and his wife! They were there with us all of the way, helping block traffic for us, and giving us moral support! And after being greeted so warmly by everyone at Col. Poole's, we knew it was worth getting there! Needless to say, everyone on the ride was in one the rest of our Mis-Ad-Venture in the country roads. Yet, everyone stuck with us - 86er, Blackjack, Dragonrider, Riderduke, Leo, Chris and Wildhair. And to top it off, Wildhair rode back to South Carolina with us just in case we broke down. Also, not to mention all the phone call support we had with Squidley, Beer30 and Freebird! What can I say except, once again, we are so fortunate to be part of such a wonderful Family. :bighug:
  12. There used to be a thread somewhere, and now I can't find it, but it showed what the different parts of the part numbers indicated. Wonder if someone has that info and would like to share it with the rest of us. Course then we would all know and the person giving out the info would not have one up on the rest of us anymore. Nahhhh,,,don't think that's a problem around here, sometimes more info is given than really needed and I won't say pin,,,,,
  13. Edna Jewell Wright passed from this life into her eternal home Sat. at 3:40 pm. I know some folks have "inlaw" problems and I am reminded again just how blessed I am. I took Edna's baby girl for my wife 37 yrs. ago and I gained 2 wonderful ladies. Patsy and Edna! What a blessing she was to me. She would tell everyone she knew how she had not lost a daughter --just gained a son. It has been a tough few months watching as the Alzheimer's took its toll on her mind and body. Patsy and her sis Jessie have really had a tough time--but it is all over now for mama. She is at rest. We will mourn, but know in our hearts that God needed her now. Who knows she might be making him some of them ol' "cat head" biscuits. Thank you mama for loving me REST IN PEACE!
  14. Is there a Venturerider member who reworks seats? I have a large piece of tempurpedic foam and a Corbin Venture 2 up seat with driver back rest that I would like to have someone refoam with the tempurpedic.
  15. How many of you guys do the Nightshift thing and how do you get to sleep on those days when your head is going and you know you are going to need your rest but something fires you up and you can't sleep. Want to go back and take care of business RIGHT NOW! I have a Inspirational speech to give to staff tonight and don't know how I will do with that on top of everything else. Can't sleep. Tonight is going to be rough.I've tried the Sleep-Aid pills, don't do anything. Not bike related but need some rest with hours I'm pulling. I Could Retire!!!!!
  16. OK folks....I hope that most of you have received your guardian bells now. I still have a few left and just wanted to make sure that everybody has them that wanted them. I may try to put some of them on Ebay if you are all covered. I'm sure that the rest will sell quickly and it will probably help a few others find our site also. So, PLEASE don't buy them if you don't want them but just wanted to give you an opportunity before I list them.
  17. Taking the scoot slapping a few necessary items on a stripped or a touring package for the road trip.now thats what motorcycling is all about..... I remember a seeing a Aston Martin towing a trailer this summer and towing a trailer with a motorcycle :rotfl:What a joke it takes away the meaning of Adventure Im hoping that my health issues will get better but Im planning to ride my 88 Honda Super Magna 750 to Dons Maintenance and all my necessary items will be in a pack sac thats 1350 miles to Lowell and the rest of you that dont pull a trailer
  18. Saw this in front yard of house in WI., this summer. Can anyone top it. The rest of yard had all sorts of his handi work.
  19. Does anyone know of a back rest that will work with the stock seat, or could give me some websites for a complete seat with backrest? ( Good quality, cheap price ) Thanks, johnnyp
  20. Buddy Rich put this together primarily because he thought the family might like to have it. He did a wonderful job. I hope that they see and download it. Of course any of the rest of you are welcome to it also. Right click on the link and then "save as" to your computer. http://www.venturerider.org/saver/garyleslie.exe
  21. I had a good idea and showed it to 86er when he was in Arkansas. I ordered a trunk back rest to match the one on my 86 VR off ebay. I cut a square piece of sheet metal and attached it to the Yamaha driver back rest on my bike now both match and it is alot more comfortable. Had to grind the rivets out of the bracket of the small back rest to bolt on the larger rest. Just an idea....
  22. i decided to "lower" the front end on my '86, yesterday!!!!! WRONG!!!!!!! cannot be done!now i have the rest of today, to re-install all of the parts that i had to remove, to find this out! just jt
  23. while i was chating with jimbob about Handle bars , a bad Fla. gale blew up with 65 mph gusts , a family on a pontoon boat was in the middle of the St.John river , i got them in and tied up to me , they are ok but very shook up , they found out pontoon boats don't do well in high winds . before they left , the owner said he is going to watch football for the rest of the day , inside at home :rotfl:[ i am glad i had a clean pair of pants here , houseboats don't do fla. gales very good ether ] Thom
  24. I am having my bike repainted. I want to paint the aluminum trim rings on my hard bags a contrasting reflective color. Can I prime them with the same primer as the rest of the boxes. Does this need to have a prep treatment before primer and paint? Derek
