VR Assistance

  1. A great day of riding on Saturday capped with a bag lunch on the Blue Ridge Parkway, a total of 360 miles logged and even bumped into a fellow Vr'er along the way (tip of the helmet to ya, yamaduck!). Follow all that up with a night of good old dirt track racing and a day of rest to recover, does life get any better than that? I think not but I am pretty confident there are some out here that can try.
  2. I bought and after market, Harley tour pack and the back rest offered by the manufacturer. The back rest has brackets and the lid needed to be drilled for the back rest brackets. Okay, have that. Between the back rest bracket and the bracket that bolts to the lid, they provided a rubber insulator. This turns out to be a rubber bushing of about 1 " in length with the head of a bolt embedded in each end, giving threads sticking out each end of the rubber bushing. The problem is, I haven't even finished my mounting bracket for the bike and the bolts are popping out of the rubber already. What does everyone use? I considered a piece of all thread in each of the three locations, with jam nuts on each side of the bracket. What have others done for this?
  3. Will a 1986 back rest fit on a 85 ?
  4. My decals which look like pinstriping are in poor condition on everything except the left and right main faring. They really bring down the appearance of the rest of the body panels. How can I get the old decals/stripes off and has any body found something close to replace them ?
  5. I was on the local CL and posted was a Corbin seat with backrest off a 85 venture! Well I have an 85 venture and have been on the fence about getting a utopia back rest and this deal was about $70.00 more than just the rest. Long story short I contacted him by email and left my number and while I was a church yesterday he called and left his # called back "Just sold it" It was even the right color for my bike. I find the stock seat very comfortable and just want a backrest . In all reality I don't go all that far (yet) and I have a Corbin on my V65 Magna with a sliding backrest that seat was bad to start with. So do the Utopia rest work well ? Can the passenger get on easily . I'm thinking I can live with the stock seat and the color is a perfect match or should I keep hunting for a Corbin? A new Cobin is roughly half of what my bike cost.thanks
  6. 1997 Royal Star I've taken off the rear seat back rest and saddle bags making it look like a solo ride. The problem is I took the back rest chrome off leaving the sides of the rear fender with 2 open holes I've seen the chrome eye brows ( chrome strip on either side of rear fender) on road star that go there but I've searched under that and can't find them any where is for any thing!! is there another name for them???
  7. Hi, Does anyone have a set of mounting brackets for the VenturLine Rider's Back Rest for an '86 to '93 VR? Thanks
  8. I am now a bona-fide member of VentureRider.org. I gotta say, I have found here more useful information about something I am interested in than maybe any other one place. Thank you, Freebird and all the rest of you for making this site what it is. Bert
  9. I'm trying to get my bike going its been sitting for a long time, I've had a long running issue with the starting system its never been dependable so I pretty much gave up on it. Well another thread on another members starter switch problems got me looking at mine and long story short I jerry rigged it up so it now will dependably crank with no problems, its still not %100 correct but it works. So now I'm trying to get it running, I had a heck of a time at first, needed to clean the carbs out some ether & its running, not good but it ran. I could tell it wasn't running on all cylinders but I thought it was just dirty fuel system so I let it run and run seafoam, carb cleaner the works. After a while I could tell it was more than the fuel system. I pulled the plugs and only 1 cylinder look right, nice & dry with just a touch of brown on the ceramic. The rest were wet and covered in black suit. I check them for spark & no surprise only the 1 cylinder had a good spark, the rest nothing. I tried WD & checking the connections and got 2 of the cylinders showed a weak spark and the 4th didn't have enough spark to jump the gap on the plug just spark at the ground a little. I'm not real familiar with this type of ignition system so I was hoping some one here might have some suggestions. Sorry this dragged out so long. Thanks Pete

  11. Soldier A soldier stood glancing at the dead He felt so pensive, and bowled his head Blood and gore painted the ground Tall men stood in melancholy, and made no sound Trying to stand brave, he wiped his tear A Canadian soldier must be strong, and show no fear A glorious victory but many soldiers lying sore May they rest in peace, for them there is no more war With his hand on his heart he turned to leave And whipped the rain from his skin with his sleeve He was contend, him and his country were free That’s when he thought, when will the next war be?
  12. Please say a prayer for my wife and I. Our 28 year old daughter passed away in her sleep on October 15th. We have just returned from Canada after laying her to rest and are trying to deal with the grief and sorrow. The autopsy results will take 5 to 6 months:95:

  15. i was born and raised in new england still live here , and after 50 plus years still havent learned the fall temps can drop rapidly. last sat was perfect day blue sky, 75f no humidity perfect lets go cruising!!! so i was getting little impatient with gf she puttin stuff in the bags gettin her jackets etc, an dumb ole me just itchin to ride. off we go beautiful rideing. after a few hours we go by a car dealer she wants to stop as she needs new car . OK well we are there for few hours by time we leave its 9 pm dark cold as hell. and about an hour away from home. she has her heavy leather coat, chaps gloves (you know the rest). im in light leather jacket no gloves shorty helmet no face mask etc. when we made it home all I heard was all the i told you so's as she broke my hands free from the grips, and rest of night was when will you learn to bring your stuff !!!
  16. The start of our journey through the U.S. started with MD in Ohio.....now that's what I call startin' with a "bang" We are now in Fairborn, Ohio --staying for a couple of days to let my legs rest, and AL wants to check out the USAF museum here. We then head to Kentucky. Will keep you all up to date in here from time to time.
  17. Last year was my 1st ride in 27 years and it has taken a full year for my wife to get on board so its 28 years for her. Our previous bike was an 80 Goldwing. She said that on the Wing she recalls sitting a bit higher and could somewhat look over my helmet to see up ahead. On the 89 VR she has no forward vision at all. Right smack in the back of my helmet. She does not like the driver back rest on the VR, that I really like. She feels the Wing shifted and the engine is smoother. She probably wouldn't be interested in a long days ride. I can remove the driver back rest. Can't do anything about the shifting and smoothness. Her biggest gripe is that she can't see forward causing her some slight motion dizzyness always seeing things from the side and then her necks gets tired looking sideways Left and right also. Any serious suggestions as to raising the rear seat height?
  18. I'm looking for information on: 1. Where to get a driver back-rest for my '83? and 2. How to mount it? Did they even make back-rest for the '83?

  23. I lost my key at a routine rest stop this past weekend. I looked everywhere back tracking my steps but it just wasn't found. I couldn't believe I had lost it and we were 2 1/2 hours from home. Fortunately I had a spare hidden on the bike that had been there for a few years and never used. That saved our weekend. My lesson learned was that I will always have a spare key hidden on the bike and my in use key will be on a key chain. The rest of the story is that on our return trip we stopped at the rest stop and the lost key had been found and turned in. I'll never know how it got out of my pocket or who found it and turned it in but I learned a lesson. Bill
  24. I pulled my K&N filters off tonight after realizing they hadn't been pulled to be cleaned in say (cough cough) 20 or 30,000 miles.. ouch.. But looking at them.. I'm wondering if it was just the right time or premature or waaaay too late, hard to tell.. As the air comes into the box, it seems only the immediate area in front of the inlet hole is dirty while the rest of the filter looks pristine.. SO clean it's still fresh pink with oil.. SO weird. It might not show well in the photo but just that small area has dirt on it (albeit a lot) but the rest of the filter is looking darn new.. How often do you clean YOUR K&N? Cheers
  25. Does anyone know if a back rest and arm rests from an 1987 Venture will fit on an 1985 trunk?
