I have a 1988 Venture and would like to replace the front fork springs and the rear shock with the progressive product (unless someone has another alternative to the darned expensive rear shock, mine won't hold air). I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but I've searched all over the site and need some help, so if you have a link to this question (which I'm sure has been answered already) please send me the link! I need to know what the procedure is to replace them. Thank you in advance! Shane

Is the Rear and Front Tire Valve Stem the same size? On my next Front Tire change, I would like to replace the Front with a right angle stem like the Back Tire

Guys- I am going to change out my steering head bearings. Do I need to order any seals? The park shark print shows part #3 as (cover ball race 2) is this just the upper dust seal? and is there one like it on the stem under the #2 bearing. I might as well change the fork oil, should I remove the top nut on the forks or use the lower drain hole? I see the part number has changed on the stem nuts, if I replace the rubber washer with a steel one do you have to replace the stem nuts? Thanks guys..

Hey everyone, I posted here last week regarding exhaust problems. Basically, due to the lack of Ventures in Ireland, it's proving a headache. The pipes on my 2001 RSV are corroding badly (underneath only, chrome is fine). The mufflers are rotting away from the main pipe and I'm getting barking noises and losing pressure. I wanted to replace the whole exhaust system but Yamaha Europe are quoting me Eur3,500 to replace the full system! I was dealing with WestendMotorsports in the states and they said that the "Bub 4 into 2" system is an option BUT the end tips are currently being redesigned because of blistering. This could take forever and with alot of touring this Summer planned, I need the pipes fixed. Has anyone you know ever replace their full pipes? With the Venture, it doesn't seem that easy. I heard certain Harley pipes fit the Venture? Ebay have two or three exhausts for the RSV but I don't want to be stuck with something that will let me down in three months. Any help would be great. Thanks

My buddy brought his bike over to me to complete some work. bleed and replace and upgrade clutch, clean and synch carbs, adjust valves and replace valve cover gaskets. install a stebel horn and find out why his 12 v soket is not working. most is done. i need to remove the tank again because I know I forgot to reinstall tovacuum lines on the carb, they may be vent lines. need to find out how to make a bracket for the stebel horn and where the fuse is for the accersory plug. his is the 99 venture. First off the bike feel considerably heavier.Seems to have a slight bit more grunt but doesnt pull like my 96 tc. I really enjoyed the radio system and decided that i do not like the handle bar risers. Great arm position until it was time for a u turn and my elbow kept jabbing me in the tummy. had to make it llike an unexperience K turner.

The first mod is to replace the carbs with "Guppy 471's". No, they're not fuel injectors, they're gills. Also plan on taking off the Avons and putting on "Evenrudes". Will get me through the water better. Replace the stock handlebars with a new chrome "Rud-R", gotta steer this beast somehow. The hard bags will go, pontoons in their place. Finally, all my road gear, jacket with CE armor, riding pants that are padded and armored, full face flip up helmet, gloves- chuck it all for a good wet suit and scuba gear. At least I'd get the bike out.....

OK, I'm thinkin' since both of the '83's sight glasses in the OEM master reserves are one step above swiss cheese I'd either replace them with another set of OEMs, or.... replace them with a set of 2ndGen masters and levers... which I have already. Has anyone ever comtimplated doing this, or possibly even done it?? Can anyone think of a reason why not?? Any input would be appreciated.... Thanks..

Did you ever start a small project and end up deeper than you had any intention? I knew my front tire was a little worn and had a lot of cracks in it too, so thought I would replace the Elite 2 with a new one, now how hard can that be? I took the wheel off and had a friend change the tire. He left it out in the rain after changing it and got a lot of water in the bearings. Well guess with 40k on the bike it might be a good idea to replace the bearings. Talked to Buckeye to order the parts and mentioned that I was going to check the starter since I had a small leak in the radiator hose also and it would be a good time to look at the starter. The bike starts slow after it is hot. He suggested that the real fix was a 4 brush starter. Ok one more thing what the heck. While disconnecting the battery to remove the starter found a broken fuse clip so guess I will change over to new type fuses. ALL I REALY WANTED TO DO WAS CHANGE MY TIRE!!!!

My Wife's '95 SC-1 has been drinking oil for a while and severly fouls the plugs regularly. I've been told these engines are bad to wear out the valve guides, causing the oil consumption. Any truth to that? Is it possible to replace the guides, or will the head have to be replaced? Can this engine be "in-frame overhauled"? This is just what I needed another "project"!!!

Hi folks! One quick question. I took the mufflers off to replace the rear tire and want to know if the gaskets are an "always replace" item or if they can be reused. They're stuck pretty good on the pipe but overall look smooth. I want to get a no leak job, can I use the gaskets over and simply remount the mufflers? Thanks! Jim

...by the front tire with oil having run down the fork. Looks like an oil seal has gone - has it really been that cold? Just kidding...they do have to be replaced eventually! I noticed a nice explanation (By Freebird) in the Tech section on how to replace the seals without removing the forks and it seems to apply to the MKII two models as well as the MKI's. Does anyone know if there's anything new to be added to the explanation? Can the anti dive be disabled at this point? If I do disable it, should I replace the springs? I only put a few hundred miles on the since I got it last October (We have this ugly thing called winter around here that has precluded more riding) so I really haven't had much of a chance to see how it will handle a larger load than just me. The previous owner thought that the bike only had 60,000 KM (about 37,500 miles), but judging from the wear and tear on various bits and pieces I suspect that the mileage may be more like 160,000 KM (100,000 miles) but I don't know what has been replaced other than tires and brake pads. (Who produces a long distance touring machine with only 5 digits on the odometer - plus the tenths, of course? What were they thinking?) On my Triumph, the practice has usually been to replace the bushings at the same time as the seals, since a bad bushing has been known to shorten the seal's life. Is this a good idea for the VR as well? Well, that should be enough questions for now. Time to start sourcing parts and wishing I was rich...and handsome and 30 years younger and...oh never mind. That line of thought just gets depressing!

OK...in about a month I'll be taking my bike in for all service it needs EXCEPT the oil change (I'll do that myself). I will let them replace plugs, do a carb synch, change the air filter, replace the final gear oil, and repack the steering bearings. I know that some of this may be a little early, but I'd just as soon get it all done now so I don't have to take the bike back for awhile. Am I MISSING anything else they could or should do? I know some of you might be inclined to tell me to do some of those things...but I am much better at turning the key and the throttle than I am at turning a wrench. Thanks. Wally

I have not been able to ride in about 12 months, But I would go out and start the bike up at lease once every 2 weeks. Well this week I went to start it this week after about 3 months and I had to replace the battery, I drained the old fuel out. I have fire and gas but it will not start. It acts like it wants to with the choke on but will not start.

Has anyone ever tackled this job? Since the shock has less than 5K miles on it, I don't really want to replace the entire thing. But, considering the progressive spring mod if it's not horridly difficult.

I want to replace my trailer (pulled by cycle) lights with led-type of lights. i was hoping to be able to simply take the light cover off, remove the old light, and wire in the new led lights. could it possibly be this simple, or am i dreaming? if it is possible, does anyone know where to purchase the led lights?

I have the engine out of my 83 VR now and the water outlets on the cylinder head are very rusted and look like they will give me problems in the near future. I want to replace them while they are easy to get to. They are not listed as a part on any Yamaha parts list. Has anyone replaced theirs and where did you get them?

I have a 1990 VR with 96K miles on it. Been a GREAT bke! Recently had the stator go out. During my research here for threads on replacement ideas I came upon a discussion about replacing the R/R whenever you replace the stator. From reading these posts I concluded I should also replace the R/R. Just for good insurance if for no other reason. Question: Is there any way I can get in on the group buy deal for one of those Shindengen FHO12AA regulator / rectifiers ? Does any one have an extra one they would part with ? I can find them else where but you guys worked the best deal I can find. GREAT job ! Thanks for the help. Red Baron
