  1. Looking for 86 to 93 left side bag guard/mounting frame. I had a meeting with the front end of a stop sign running suv. I've straightened the rear subframe and I think I can repair some of the plastic, but the guard is too bent up. Thanks
  2. During the maintenance day at Don's, a few folks were telling me about some material that could be used to repair the plastic on the Ventures. I did not take any notes and memory being what it is (or in my case - isn't), I do not remember what the stuff was called or where you could get it. Anyone out there remember this conversation or the material mentioned? Thanks ahead of time.
  3. I have some used 1st Gen stuff I found in the garage that is free for the price of shipping...I want to make it very clear this stuff is used and in need of some repair....there is a grille cover that need tabs repaired, a chrome trunk support rack that needs work, the lower right "Elbow" portion of the of the fairing...again...needs repair, and two of the intake tubes from the front vents.
  4. Has anyone tired to repair one of these? Unfortunatly, there seems to be a break in one of the wires about on inch from the female connector, and it looks like I will have to make a repair. Are they hard to work on?
  5. Today I put the class control back on the bike and it works like new again. I used the info from the tech libary and went through the circuit board. Found several loose or bad solder joints that needed re-done other than the seven joints listed in the information. The moral of this story is: Check all solder joints when doing this repair.....
  6. Maybe I can get some pictures up later. I just removed the trunk to see how bad it was. I'm talking 6 inch cracks up the side,up the back, across the bottom almost end to end. We got one chunk of plastic missing about 2 1/2 inch square. Obviously this one did not get the Yamaha recall repair in 99. So for a cheap quick fix now ASAP what are my options. I don't care if I have to replace the trunk later but now time is the problem.
  7. Boy oh Boy Friday the 13th has bitten me in the backside once again. It finally cooled off to a chilly 87 degrees this evening and I went out to mow the lawn. Well as I was mowing around our outside house AC unit I hit something and it put a hole in the coil of the unit near the bottom. Do you know that it gets warm in the house when you let all that freon out of the unit? Well trust me on this one it does!!! You can't do anything but laugh at this point. Friday the 13th nothing open on the weekend in this little podunk town. Anyway my question is: Can the coil be welded and the system recharged? Or am I looking at a new outside unit. To make matters worse it went out 2 weeks ago, had the capaciter go on it. The repair cost me only labor since it was still under warranty, but only for 5 more days. Not that this would be a warranty repair anyway. Thanks in advance. Now I'm going to go cry in my grape juice.
  8. Hi All, I'm looking to replace my existing radio, as I "think" that's the cultprit, nothing else has worked. So, anyone know where I can find a replacement unit? Bikebandit.com has them but, they're about $900. Or, can these be sent in for repair, somewhere? Thanks.

    Ghost In My Cb?

My factory CB (2008 RSV) keeps turning itself on when I'm out riding. Cannot figure out why? Anybody else have this problem? Info on how to stop it would be appreciated? Is it a warranty repair?
  10. I'm trying to find a repair manual for my bike and I'm not having any luck. Does anyone know where I can get one or have any suggestions?
  11. Ok I have a question on Paint. I have been reading the treads on here and other sites about Painting. But what is the difference in urethane, lacquer, and enamel? Still don't get it. What kind do you use when repainting a RSV? Need to do some plastice repair on trunk. What is the best way to do this? Please help guys. Want to try and do some of this work myself. Also Planning some special painting on the bike in different colors. Hope to be able to paint myself. What can you get for that kind of painting (picture) paints? Would model car type paint work? Just a thought than Clear coat over it. Help!
  12. Can anyone tell me what the 1st. gen. Fairing is made of? I have some fairing mounting tabs to repair would like some advise on what kind of epoxy to use. Or does anyone have an idea how to repair a broken fairing tab.( where you screw the fairing onto the frame)
  13. I have an 89 royale that is leaking oil from something? maybe a crossover?! It is between the heads at their base, this thing runs from one side to the other and has a bango fitting on it w/small hose going somewhere. How should I fix it? #2 question --- I believe my bike to have a diaphram issue, does anyone have pics on step by step repair and how to step by step repair? I've read something about liquid tape or yamabond? All help is good help. I just bought it couple months ago, don't know alot about it except it has 28k on it one owner, and I don't think he did anything to the carbs. It starts fine but it definitely doesn't have the power it should! I did check the temps of the exhaust right at the header, soon after startup at idle the rear 2 are in the 360 degree range and front 2 slowly climbed to 185 and on up, but nowhere near the rear 2 exhausts temps, checked for spark in the fronts, both ok. When you really twist the throttle she tends to come to life a little. I'm hoping it to be a diaphram issue. Thanks for any responses:feedback:
  14. I have a Chilton Motorcycle repair manual for sale if anyone's interested. Covers BMW, BSA, Bultaco, Harley, Honda, Kawasaki, Montesa, MotoGuzzi, Norton, OSSA, Suzuki, Truimph, Yamaha .... I'm gussing it's for bikes around 1970 era as I got it when I had my '72 Truimph back around 1976. The book was published in 1974. It's in pretty good shape...has a bit of a "burn" on the edge of the front cover that extends to the first 2 or 3 pages. 1376 pages in total. No idea what this book is worth so if anyone's interested, make me a offer...I'll ship it COD or will find out shipping cost and add that to the price.
  15. well decided to change both tires , How hard is it to remove tires of the rims .I want to take them of and change them myself and have them balanced at my repair shop.Any special tools needed .
  16. I have noticed some oil on the left side of the rear wheel and tire of my 03 Venture after a long ride of say 50 + miles. I noticed it for the first time about a month ago and thought it was just road oil and washed if off. After a ride this past Sunday I noticed it again and now I’m sure it’s an oil leak on the final drive. I stopped by the local dealer yesterday and asked them to check with Mama Yama to see if they would cover the repair under warranty since I first noticed the problem last month (my warranty was up the 19 of this month). If they don’t cover it I will do the repair myself. I am thinking that it’s the oil seal which is just behind the bearing housing on the final drive. What do you folks think? Has any one else had an oil leak here and if so do you have any suggestions on the replacement of the oil seal? I’m thinking it’s a straight forward repair with no hidden issues. Thanks for your input. I’m hoping that Yamaha will pay for it but I want to be prepared to do it myself just in case. If I end up doing the repair myself I’m going to take pictures and do a work up on the repair for the site so the next person will have a tech article to follow.
  17. Has anyone fixed the plastic pins for the side panel the push pins things that go into the rubber grommet and how did you do it?
  18. Well i noticed last night that i have to pull the lever almost all the way back to have a full release. Found that out at a stop light. I have noticed over time that the lever seems like it needs to move a little farther back to release the clutch. The clutch does engage at the same point it always has. It has been hot here in KC and humid for most of the summer. I don't know how old the fluid is but it is not clear but more of a dull darkish tinted color. I have done a few searches on this site and my first course of action will be to change the fluid. I havent had any leaks so maybe a new hose if the fluid swap doesn't do the trick. This site is a great resource for repair how to do's because the members actually do their own repairs and let others know the little things that make a repair job less frustrating. I will keep you posted.
  19. I noticed a few small dark drips under my bike and when I investigated I saw that they are oil drips, and they are comming from one of the tubes that just end under the bike. The other bikes I have had have all had these tubes and none of them have dripped oil before. This is a 2007 Venture and only has a few thousand miles on it and I'm not happy. Hopefully someone here will let me know whats going on and if it's something I should be concerned about and if I should take it back to the dealer for repair.
  20. 83 Venture Standard I will be or try to anyway, repair my fuel gauge.#1 Do I need to solder the whole strip or just around the prongs,#2 Would I need more solder to do the repair or just heat up the solder already in place? If so what type of solder do I need for this board? I already have it torn down,CMS in hand. buddy
  21. remember seeing on this site somebody writing on plastic repair . While taking my fairing apart found out that the plastic stub that holds the far end of shield support was broken off .I will have to repair it but I need some kind of glue or repair kit.I will have to make myself an other support but I will have to glue it or weld it to the fairing .
  22. Cracked plastic can be effectivly repaired with Plastex. http://plastex.home.att.net/
  23. When I got the 90 Venture there were a couple of holes in the seat. I used black vinyl and vinyl cement to repair the holes. The vinyl and cement are actually tarp repair items. Most places that repair tarps for big rigs should have it. The adhesive works like contact cement. You clean both pieces with alcohol, then put the adhesive on both parts and let tack over. Once it tacks over just put in place and push together and it is done. If you have a seperated tear you can stitch it together to hold and glue a patch over that. I have included a couple of pictures. If anyone can't find the materials locally they can pm me as we use this stuff at work.
