  1. If any one has 1 old but usable carb slider for an 83 first gen Smaller bore than the 2nd gen. , can you PM me. skydoc_17 put me on to a problem i was having and sure enough he was dead on (as usual ). I had one slide come loose and was not opening all the way. superglue repair and carb sync and its a new beast. all the rest of mine are OK but the chipped up one , and I hate to run it (even though it runs great now) with it knowing its condition. let me know. thanks. maindog.
  2. I know its been discussed here before but I am too lazy to search and really dont have the time to right now, I need to know what year rear box will fit and 83 without modification or maybe just a little of it. I have seen some 83-85 with an 86 box and wondering if its just a simple swap. After all my repair on mine some of the cracks have reappeared since they were repaired and repainted. I hate cracked plastic, and the bigger box would be nice also.
  3. I didn't see anybody else post about the big rockslide on I-70 west of Denver. The road is closed both ways. They aren't sure how long it will take to clean up and repair the bridge that now has a huge hole in it.

    Emergency Tire Repair

Howdy Any good suggestions to pack a tire repair kit to get one to the next town. E.g. plugs, aerosol cans with tire fix. Thanks Max
  5. And maybe some more. Finally bought a new stable and a house to go with it. Marca is happy and Eric & family are ready to take over living in the old homestead. Closing is mid October, then some time for refreshments,,,and upgrades,,,,, and then we hope to settle in about mid November. Three car garage with 2 doors, will be lots of room to fix and repair, back yard big enough to make a campgound, with more room in the side yard. Even room for a BBQ. Now where to park some bikes,,,,, maybe the neighbours will like me after all.
  6. Been getting a lot of noise coming from top of engine and a vibration in the bike so I decided to call the bike shop to price a valve adjustment, I almost dropped the phone when he said $550. Looks like I will be getting a repair book and trying it myself over the winter! Any recommendations on a repair manual? Never been into a bike that far but if i have any problems I know where to go to get the answers.... Thanks, Dale
  7. My front forks will not hold air, brand new bike... I will look at getting it repair in the winter not at the end of the season, unless it is dangrous to ride without air or do I really need the air? I'm sure this will be repair under warranty but is it something I will be taking back time after time.. Hell I even thought of using that fix flat but said naw better not...LOL So do you really need air or is it just another headache?
  8. Would the clutch whine be considered a characteristic of a lemon? If I understand what has been said in previous posts, its a flaw in craftsmanship in most RSTDs and RSVs. From what I've read, the dealer has four attempts to repair it within the warranty and if its not fixable they're required to buy it back.
  9. Hi, What is the approximate cost of parts to do the second gear repair these days? Not the labor, just parts. Thanks, Brian H.
  10. Hi there our bike will not stay running. have replaced the battery and it only runs for the amount of the charge and then dies. I have taken it apart examined the connections and everything looks good. Has anyone had to replace a stator. Also has anyone been able to get their hands on a repair manual for a 2006. Thanks in advance
  11. Cleaned up the garage today and found an assortment of stuff from my Venture that I no longer need. I make no promises about any quality. It all free to whoever wants it, you pay the shipping or we arrange a meet. There is a larger chunk of plastic that I had used as repair material....probably a litle ackward to ship, although not heavy. Let me know if you want any of it...if not it's in Thursday's garbage pickup.

    Good morning

Good morning to everyone, Well I just pick up my 09 Venture yesterday black/red man she ride and sounds like caddy.. Only one issue the speedommeter doesn't seem to move with ease, it acts like it is hanging if I can do a fast repair or fix I will but if I need to take it to the dealer that is not a problem.. Has anyone else had this problem? Also since I a proud owner now I will be joining today... Thanks guys/gals Scary
  13. Got a question. The company I work for has a hydraulic lift on our dock. The tank and pump for it is inside in a cabinet next to my work area. The other day smoke came rolling out of the cabinet so I killed the power and opened it up. On the pump assembly there is a shaft that sticks out and there is a coil on it. That was fried and the cause of the smoke. The lift will still work but it will drop back down to ground level when you release the button on the control. They had a company repair guy (shade tree) come in and he spent three days working on it. This morning the lift was working but when I inspected the pump I saw he had removed the coil and not replaced it. He did some rewiring (hack job) and left it at that. The "repair" work he did it sloppy and left bare wires. So with that info can anybody tell me what this coil does? It's a Delta Power Company DOL25 24 VAC. Fits a 1/2 shaft. I have some safety concerns about this repair and want to know how this works and what it does.
  14. Tried using the aerosol can that repair a 14 inch car tire
  15. How do you repair a 1st Gen speedometer mine is 10mph high so it says I'm doing 70 mph really doing 60 mph How do you fix it?
  16. I need a jet block gasket. Don't know if replacements are available or if I can repair. Let me know how to repair or where to get a replacement. I'm including pics. Thanks.
  17. There are very few options for matching factory colors on the RSV. ColorRite is the primary supplier for factory matched colors or you can have a paint shop do a custom mix. That is about it; I did find one other company that supposedly had matched colors, but I don't remember who they were, and there was something about what I read that made me wonder if it was really color matched. Anyway, when I needed to repair my saddlebag lid last year I decided to go with ColorRite rattle cans, both colorcoat and urethane clearcoat. At this point let me note that metallic paints are difficult to match perfectly, and any silver or yellow color is the most difficult of all to get a perfect match. ColorRite even warns that the 2005 Liquid Silver paint is "factory variance" color where they cannot guarantee the match. Despite that concern, the initial paint repair on just the front 1/3 of my right saddlebag lid was excellent. The amount of silver flake was perhaps just a tad greater in the new paint, but you had to look extremely close to see the transition. In retrospect I would do the entire lid instead of just the front 1/3 if I was doing it again, since I could not detect a difference in the paint from the lid to the body of the bag. Basically, I was very very happy with the quality of the paint repair on my 2005 Liquid Silver RSV from the ColorRite spray cans. But one year later my opinion is changing. The repaired area has significantly yellowed and now has a very distinct gold shine to it instead of the original silver. Very pretty, but NOT a match for my stock paint! I do not know if this yellowing would show up on other colors, but it sure does on the 05 Liquid Silver. Sooooo, if you need to repair the silver paint, I'd strongly suggest you find a paint shop that will do the job and guarantee the color will not shift after a year or two - the extra cost will probably be well worth it. 19. Found this website and they claim to have a fix for sightglass http://www.newrivercyclesalvage.com/%20glass.html
  20. I went to the Clymer.com website for a repair manual. All I could find was a manual for the 1999 to 2003 Venture. I have a 2006 Venture. I have heard that nothing has really changed on the Venture. Will this manual be all right for my 2006? Thanks. Dennis
  21. Help...I made a boo boo :!: I tried using one of those bug sponges (the ones with the scotch brite-like stuff on one side) to remove the bug guts and tar from my lower fairings. I had the lowers off and submersed in a pail of soapy water and I was scrubbing them with the bug sponge. When I pulled them out they looked great...no bug guts or tar...OR CLEAR COAT :!: :!: :!: . When I dried them off I could see a lot of dull scuffs and scratches. How do I repair this :?: I am not too familiar with automotive paints and finishes. (No kidding eh)

Aux/DRL's to H3 LEDs to reduce load by >100 watts/ 9 amps $24 Ebay Buy spare parts ahead, if something gives out on trip they can be overnighted, rather than waiting a week… Take enough tools so most any repair can be done on the road $20 Walmart tool kit Take withs especially on long trips: Insulated Wire, Electrical tape, 5 min Epoxy/Super glue, tire repair kit, tie wraps, 1 spark plug, 1 qt. oil, small flashlite, tire gauge, valve core removal tool (kind in the cap), drinkable water use for radiator/battery too. I service/buy bikes frequently. I frequently find most bikes rarely get proper servicing. Batteries, carbs, tires, oil, brakes go first, usually in that order. Honestly how often to you check?
  23. Well, after a small(?) spill in front of my house that I rode away from...I got tired of looking at the dent inthe gas tank and the broken fairing so I put in an insurance claim and took the bike to the local dealer (Cal-Coast Motorsports) in Ventura, CA. Their estimate to repair the right side of the motorcycle was $7700. To be fair, they said that they would repair everything to showroom condition, and my motorcycle had EVERY chrome gadget/gizmo in the Star catalog. Many of these pieces had tiny scratches and were still VERY useable. Needless to say, the dollar amounts didn't add up, and GEICO totalled the motorcycle. I took the insurance proceeds and bought a 2009 model, red. The motorcycle, including a 4-year extended warranty (yes, through 2017), a 3 yr service contract (covers all recommended services, oil changes etc.), and 5 hrs of labor ($89 per hour) to put all of the sparkly trinkets on the new motorcycle for $21,000 OTD. i am thrilled and I can't wait to see how the 2009 fuel injected motor and CD player work out...oh wait....darn.
  24. So a couple weeks ago I broke down on a trip and a local shop replaced the ECU/ignitor on my Kawasaki Vucan. After replacing the unit they discovered the source of the problem was that some of the wires under the tank (lots of engine heat) cracked open or broke and shorted out the ECU. So in order to get me on my way without any more delay they spliced wires into the harness. Everything has been fine so far but before I paid the bill the service manager let me know that because the entire wiring harness was not replaced it was possible that the problem could recurr at some time and recomended that I have the harness replaced when I get home. So the question is: Bite the bullet and have local dealer replace the harness or Replace the harness myself or Try to redo the repair by soldering in replacement wires and insulating or ? This was an $800.00 repair and I am of limited $$ I appreciate all advice from you folks as you have saved my bacon more than once getting my old 83 Venture back up and going.
  25. I just discovered I have a cracked tab in one of my lower fairings (2nd Gen)...was hoping some of you experts here can steer me in the right direction on how to repair and what to use. Have no idea what the lower material is comprised of. ABS plastic is my guess. Help please...also do we have anything in our tech files that would show how to use something for repairing?
