  1. I've been reading the posts on modding the cassette. I just want to replace mine. I was able to remove the old deck because the cover was broken. I can't get the replacement deck in because the door will not fit through the inner fairing opening. I've measure it and it is taller than the opening. I've tried it with the door closed and open without any success. Has anyone found the trick to this?
  2. I have a small oil leak coming from the back of my spin on oil filter adapter. The adapter I have looks like a plate with eight holes in a circle and a coupler through it that then has a 30mm(ish) nut put on the coupler to secure the plate. The plate appears to be able to be taken off without removing the coupler from the bike but it's stuck on there. I tried a dead blow hammer and putting allen wrenches in two of the eight or so holes and spinning the whole thing with those and a long screwdriver but didn't have any luck. Is there a good way to remove these plates?
  3. Hello all, I've got a 2005 Venture but was seriously considering stripping it down to just the saddlebags and windshield cruiser look of the deluxe. Has anyone done this that has photos or insight? The removal of the front fairing and trunk looks difficult but I'm not sure. Cheers for your time! Nice to have found you guys! Robb Reno, NV, U.S.
  4. Does anyone know how to deal with the gear shaft when removing the stator cover from a 1983 yamaha venture. How do you remove the gear shaft in the bottom right and corner to take the stator cover off? Pulling hard doesn't seem to be the option because I am going to to damage the rubber boot from the shifter linkage.
  5. Hi guys. I have a 1983 venture royale. I have all the bolts taken off the stator cover, but there is the gear shaft and its linkage that's stopping me from pulling the stator cover off. Two questions. How do you remove the gear shaft from back linkage/stator cover entirely? How can you just slide the stator off the bike leaving the gear shaft put? Please help. Thanks. (1st timer, I'm 27 w a 30+ year old bike.)
  6. Does anyone have a nice step by step or a series of photos for the removal of the rear wheel? I am looking at new tires and am Unwilling to let the bike butchers at the dealer touch the bike or charge me an extra $350.00 to remove the wheels from the bike.
  7. Okay. So I'm out in the garage doing the clutch upgrade. It looks really simple and straight forward. HOWEVER, the old gasket is brittle and stuck pretty good most of the way around. (like 99% of the way around). Does anybody have any old gasket removal tricks, or am I just stuck carefully scraping for a while? I'm gonna go scrape for a while, then come back and check for answers. I'm using a glass scraper (handle with a safety razor blade that locks in place. thanks. dana
  8. Is there an easy way to remove my TCI? It looks very hard to get at.
  9. Anyone have any step by steps to for gas tank removal from a 2006 RSV??
  10. I wanted to show what the Volusia's clutch plates wound up looking like when I took them out. I have two words: Crispy Smooth. The order of removal goes from first one out on the top left progressing right to the last one out (TM-1b) on the bottom right. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6107.jpg Also, ignore the shredded gasket material, that came out after the removal of the plates. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6109.jpg Closeup of 13 and 12. Some friction material, but not much. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6110.jpg 11 and 10, smooooooth. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6111.jpg 9 and 8, also very smooth http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6112.jpg 7 and 6. 7's not so bad Actually had quite a bit of Friction material left. Just cooked. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6113.jpg 6 (again) and 5. Five coulda been worse too. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6114.jpg 4 and 3 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6115.jpg And finally, 2 and TM-1b. So those are my deep fried, oil battered plates. Whatcha think? Now 5th gear actually feels like a 5th gear with acceleration all its own and not just a weaker version of 4th gear...if that makes any sense to y'all.
  11. Need a hand please. I need to remove the front caliper to inspect squeaky pads and have removed both bolts. I assumed the caliper would slide off, but it will not. Have I missed something or is there a method used for removal? Thanks in advance. Mike
  12. Could someone tell me or show pics of the proper clutch basket removal tool for a 2008 rsv?
  13. Can some tell me how to remove the shock on an 03 RSV.
  14. Well I have new tires coming tomorrow and I have to take off my tires and take them to the dealer for mounting and balancing I found the tech article by frebird on rear tire removal is there one for the front tire? Are there any others for reference and what other things should I be doing with the tires off besides greasing the rear splines Jeff
  15. That 2 wheel combo removal system works pretty slick; thanks to the guy who posted this idea years ago; I finally got a chance to try it out with 2 new tires going on today.
  16. Well, got the Fork seals replaced last week. Not too hard to do, no surprises there. Manual says you need to remove the fairing... I say, No you don't. Just need a couple of special tools, and tada, no fairing removal or handlebars either. did the whole job in about two hours. including cleanup It looked like the oil had never been changed, ever. yuck. So I did Guide, and Slide bushings too. Some new sae 10 Yamalube, and it's all set for another 20 years, hehe, well maybe 5. Anyway, next up, Ride the damn thing. If any one is interested, I'll share my tips for non fairing removal. Oh ya, Found the key code, and had new keys made too. No cheap copies. Key code was easier to find than one might think, but that's for another Thread Later, Kerry
  17. how do you get the sidestand switch top bolt out. got the bottom bolt out and have a new switch to go in, but having trouble with the top bolt removal. i can not even see it.
  18. What is the best way to remove a decal from a windshield?
  19. I need to pick the brains of the membership here. I am in the process of installing an LED brake/running light on my 84. I have removed the trunck, trunk mounting bracket, and the plastic cover under that. I discovered that some time in the past, someone wired in a trailer conector. The trouble I have is that they used the Scotch lock connectors. What would be a good way to remove these? When I get them removed, would a good spray of contact cleaner and then a covering of liquid tape be appropriate? I have used these connectors in the past, always with less that good results. Thanks to all, Dave
  20. I have an 87 venture standard that has the typical hot start problem. (Turns over slow when hot ) I'm doing a clutch change and I'm polishing and clearcoating the engine covers, so I have the bike mildly torn down, and I figure it'd be worth taking the starter apart and cleaning it, and seeing what I can do to improve the internal ground contacts. I seem to remember that a member had a detailed post on starter removal, but cannot seem to find it. Anyone remember the post?....if so, how can I find it?
  21. This thread over on the other board says to remove the RH header pipe in order to get the starter out. Is this correct? Because this one says nothing about it.
  22. I just wanted to say that I did the cassette removal mod yesterday and it's great! I made a nice little lined pocket to hold my ipod and whatever else. Thanks to the others who did this before me and posted the info online.

Herb
  24. I have lowered the front and rear of my RSV and now need to shorten the kickstand. The shifting linkage prevents the removal of the bolt that holds the kickstand on. Anyone have any experience in changing out the kickstand? I am not knowing if it is better to disconnect the shifting linkage toward the rear or drop the floorboard. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
