  1. NOW. i have already read ALL the pros and cons, about car tires on a mc! don't really want to read any more of that. what i WANT to know, is, WILL a car tire work on a FIRST GEN?????has anyone found one that will fit? i don't ride long distances to search for "twisties". i don't ride hard! i would rather take it slow, and easy,(that way i can say i went there and enjoyed it)and get the most miles for my buck. MY top speed, is usually 5 mph, LOWER than the posted speed limit. what i want is a long lasting tire, not a "sticky, peg scraping, sport rider" type of tire! oh, by the way, i am NOT the only member to have asked this question. other queries, got lost in the "flames". just jt:confused24:
  2. http://www.brewracingframes.com/id75.htm - if you only read ONE post today, make it this one. we use this stuff like water, EVERY DAY!, it's a miracle no one in our shop has been killed by phosgene gas. just jt
  3. Okay I am attempting to decide which GPS system I should buy. I have a very limited knowledge of these items, so I have a few questions that I would appreciate commits on: 1. In order to have bluetooth connection is it possible to use the existing radio on the Venture? If so is this done by the Buddy Rich cable that I have read about? If not then what must be done? 2. For XM radio on the Garmin unit can the antena be installed inside either the fairing or rear storage area? 3. What is the best mount for the bars? Thanks
  4. Monday...... turned on the computer.... and..... it tells me that the wireless isn't working..... 6. I've made a little change in how the "New Posts" function works. Previously, the threads would remain on your list but would go from bold font to regular font. Now the thread will be removed from your list after you have read the new post. One note though, if the thread is multiple pages, you have to go to the last page so that it at least THINKS that you have read all the new posts of that thread. Let me know if you like it better this way. If not, I can easily change it back. I also may have to change it back if it has a large affect on the server. This method is more server intensive but I think with the recent upgrade, we should be OK.
  7. OK...I bit the bullet. This morning the temps were 19 degrees outside, so I waited until about 1pm to go into the dealer and take my BEATING. I hate dealing with car/bike salesman...they made it sound like I was doing them a favor...but WE ALL know better. Anyway...I walked out with a 2009 Royal Star Venture-S...Seashell/Raven. It is supposed to be COLD and RAINING for the next 2 days...so I can sit on it and read about it. I will share my thoughts and questions after a couple of days with the bike... And without further adieu...here it is (looks pretty much like the ones on the net) LOL Thanks to everyone for their help. Wally
  8. You got to read this to believe it...............Only made one year......yep he is right the 83 was only made one year, then the 84 and so on and so on..............beautiful bike but way too much money............. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-Yamaha-VENTURE-XVZ12-TOURER-V4-Motor-RARE_W0QQitemZ170415783197QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motorcycles?hash=item27ad927d1d#v4-33
  9. Going to order a Kuhmo 165/80-15 next week to begin the journey to the darkside. Going to give it a try. I think I've read that some people use a 155/80-15, if so, why? Glenn
  10. I need help in getting a copy or two of the November 2009 Marine Leatherneck magazine. It's not something that I can just walk into the local Barnes & Noble and purchase. There is an article in the magazine called Vietnam: Last Full Measure of Devotion by Dick Camp. This is important to me since this is the first published account and public statment that my brother survived the initial crash and was not KIA as all the officical military records show - other than his medical records. If you read the article my brother was the one found alive in the Huey, although he did die later waiting for medical treatment. Any suggestions and help in getting a copy of the magazine would be wonderful. This is the link to the article if anyone would like to read it. http://www.mca-marines.org/leatherneck/nov09-last_full_measure_of_devotion.asp
  11. So I replaced the dual horns(don't know if they're stock) with a hi and lo fiamm. I turn the key and the and the horns start blaring. I check the wires with a meter. One is hot all the time regardless of wether I hit the button. The other has nothing. When I take a reading between the two it read 3.4-4volts and then 12 when I hit the button. What's the deal? The horns are loud as hell. Totally confused. Thanks in advance!
  12. Stopped by a local dealer. He had two rstd's on the floor...a red one and a two toned black and ?...I loved the red one and red is my least favorite color..... SWEET..really light compared to my rsv...I think I may be getting myself into trouble????...Taters if you read this , this is another BIG TOM...not the one you know:whistling:................................... see we are two different people....
  13. Not trying to stir the pot, just a questions about Mobile 1. I was considering changing over to Mobile 1 in by bike, however I read on a Mobile 1 container that it was "energy conserving". I have read many posts that said energy conserving oil was not good for the wet clutch in the Ventures. Am I missing something here?
  14. When I come to this site and read a few threads, then leave and come back later, and click on new posts, threads that I didn't look at the last time are being marked as read. (no longer in bold print) Is there some way I can set up my account so this won't happen? Thanks.
  15. Has anyone had any experience with the Tourmaster Elite II 2 piece rainsuit. My Frog Toggs are worn out and I want to try something different. I have read some good reviews and I like the way they look. Any thoughts? http://www.tourmaster.com/xcart/catalog/Elite-Series-II-2-Piece-Rainsuit-Jacket-p-84_8.html
  16. You gotta read it to believe it: http://superbikeplanet.com/2009/Oct/091015buellfolds.htm TERRY
  17. I purchased a 2009 RSV in July new off the showroom floor and have a question about the CD changer, is it a standard feature in 09 or is it still an option? I read the article in Rider magazine and they mention the CD changer is standard for "09". Mine did not come with it. It was wired for it in the left saddlebag but the connection was taped to the side of the bag under the latch. I read the Additional Features section of Yamaha's sight and it states - Single-point audio control system for AM/FM radio, cassette, CD changer and intercom is MP3-compatible and headset-ready. Any help would be appreciated.
  18. I have no problem setting my cruise control but the moment I slightly touch the throttle it will disengage. I would assume its not normal. I read through some posts but didn't see anything??????? Screaming Red:doh:
  19. While at Vogel I was presented with a book written by Peter Egan, titled Leanings. Peter Eagan is a contributing editor of Cycle World, Road & Track and a few other mags. These are stories and articles taken from Cycle World and are very good reading. YammerDan presented me with the book, and stipulated that the book had to be passed on to any member who wanted to read it. I am the 4th to have it according to the signatures in the cover. So if you are interested in reading it just post your request here with your mailing address and I will forward it on to you, when you are finished you must sign it, inside the front cover, and post here for the next person to read. That simple. Dan, you forgot to sign it so I will "forge" your name in it. And a big THANK YOU, to the person who bought this book, it was great reading.
  20. I have an 07 rsv bought new in july of 08 had it to the dealer in june of 09 and they said the batery would not charge up past 80%. When they told me that they asked if I keep the battery on a battery tender because the charging systen on the Venture is not designed to increase the charge on the battery just maintain what is there and that I should put it on a battery tender every night. That made no sense to me have any of you ever heard this before? Anyway so I bought a battery tender and have been using it and it never gets past the 80% charge range until about a week ago then it read fully charged. Now today I go out to ride and the battery is dead nothing was left on I did not have it on the tender over night I put it on my regular charger and it was chrged in less than 1 hour. 12 volt 10 amp charge rate. This battery is less than 1 year old and the dealer says its not covered under warranty? When I read through the warranty it seems to me that it should be anybody ever have any experience with this Thank Jeff
  21. Hey gang! I purchases a 2000 RSV MM edition with a trailer. I've never ridden a bike with a trailer and I am flying up to pick it up in 2 weeks... What's the safest way to pull it? Should I load it down a little or keep it empty? I read the trailer thread in WH and I'm just a tad nervous (not from his story, but the people that say pulling a trailer is inherently dangerous.) This is the rig: http://www.thundertowerharley.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?sid=08798334X8K16K2009J1I06I28JPMQ1604R0&veh=644&pov=1345399
  22. I've decided to get some headsets but the more I read the more confused I get. I would rather be cordless but from what I read Bluetooth won't really get me connected to the bikes audio. Maybe there is an adapter for that but I really haven't seen that there is. Anyway, I've decided to go corded but I'd like some advice from those who know. I would like to stay around $100 per headset but if there is nothing but junk at that price then I have no problem buying the better ones. I'll give you as much info as I can... '07 RSV Helmets will be shorty or 1/2 helmets. I plan on buying Mic-mutes. Ok friends, advise away!
  23. I guess it's time for a reminder folks. I'm amazed at the number of political threads started lately and also some of the jokes that are crossing the line of our PG rating here. I'm not going to give a big speech here. There are plenty of threads where I have done so. I'm just going to ask that you PLEASE think about what you are posting before you post it. It's really simple. No political discussion here and the jokes should be no worse than PG rated. Thanks, Don
  24. This is just a reminder to everyone to be careful when you visit "the Dragon". There was another article in the Knoxville News Sentinel today about a woman from Canada who lost her life Sunday. She was riding a Suzuki (didn't list the model) she ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree. It seems like it's getting more and more common to read about these deaths in the paper. I know some people think "It was just a crazy biker", but she was a 52 yr. old woman somebody's daughter, and probably someone's wife and someone's mother.
  25. My latest article in http://www.thetentacle.com , a local commentary site in Maryland. It's about food for motorcyclists on the road. http://www.thetentacle.com/ShowArticle.cfm?mydocid=3294 RandyA, I owe you for this. Read toward the bottom and you'll see why. Thanks for the book!
