  1. Does anyone else find that the saddlebag rails for the RSV/RSTD rust easily, especially around the welds and the rounded curvers? I now have my second set on the bike. Both sets rusted to the point where they look terrible. Any fixes/preventions I'm not aware of? Anyone else have this problem? If I can't get it resolved, I'm just going to take them off, and leave them off. Thanks, Don from PA.
  2. Somehow I broke and lost the Bolt and both sides of the connectors that attach to the the rear guards. I have Yamaha saddlebag rails and it is the right side that broke. I will pay plus shipping if anyone can help. Thanks perch
  3. Ok, Gang I know some of you have additional led brake lights etc . I know one of them was Juggler with some nice lights on a folded piece of Stainless on the rear of his bike. Owen has some great flat Led lights on his bike. I am interested in adding new taillight/brake lights to the inside of the bag rails and also adding clearance (orange) lights to the outside portion of the bag rails with a piece of Mirror stainless that will screw to the inside side of the bag rails ( with the lighs there in between the upper and lower rail. Who can point me to a good source for the brake lights and clearance lights. I have looked high and low across the web and cant find anyting I am satified with so far for a brake light. Send me your ideas. If I can find the correct match I am going to make a chrome insert that goes in the saddle bag guards and holds both the side marker lights and the rear brake lights in one piece. I know most of you have seen the Diamond R 2 piece set that sells for $400 but I am going to attempt this with one piece of mirror stainless steel that wraps to the back for the taillight/brakelight. I have seen several bikes on this site that have add on lights. Let me know where you got you lights and what they look like. Once I can work out which lights to use I will post the Prototype and let you tell me what you think. I am trying to accomplish this and keep the cost low. I would appreciate any ideas that you think work. This will be available for all once I can put it together. Post your suggestions/pics and where to get the lights It will be appreciated Jim:smile11:
  4. Tonight I broke one of the forward mounting bolts on my saddlebag trim rails...don't ask how!? It's the one that mounts into the crash bar by the passenger footrest. It's approx 2" long with a chromed hex head on it. Not sure the threading. I found they come included with the rails when ordering but can't find anything that tells me what that screw itself would be. Anyone know where I could get a part # and/or order a replacement? I'll try looking locally, but the small town hardware store more than likely won't have these so I'll end up paying more for shipping than for the bolt...but hey, gotta have one in the hole that's for sure! That is if I can find one! Thanks for the help...JR
  5. I was getting ready to order the lower saddle bag rails from Yamaha today, and I noticed on Ruffy's bike, it appears he has another brand on them. I posted askign him what brand, but no reply yet, and I want to get my order in as soon as I can. Is there someone out there other than Yamaha making lower rails? It appears Ruffy's rails are a lot beefier and better made.
  6. I am looking to buy a set of saddlebag rails for my 2008 Venture. Does anybody here have any recommendations on a vendor and what I can expect to pay for them? Thanks
  7. :thumbdown:Try this link http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...4967#post84967 For some reson the link is not working or is it just me ?
  8. I was looking at the saddlebag trim rails on Yamaha's accessories page for an 08 RSV and they look different than most pics I have seen on this forum. I was looking at Freebirds thread on getting the rails to line up with the bottom of the bag and his looks different than the ones in the pic at Yamaha. Is there an aftermarket place to buy them from or did Yamaha change them?
  9. Does anyone have the top rail gaurds for the side bags? Are they worth the money? Where is the best place to get them?
  10. I have seen some photos of the 2nd generation Ventures with HD saddlebag top rails istalled. Has anyone here done that? If so, which HD rails work on the Venture? I don't care for the rails that Yamaha sells as they do not look as good as the HD rails style does to me. Can anyone help me on this one? Thanks in advance.
  11. I hope this works it seems harder than doinf the rails themselves.
  12. Hop this works, seems like it is harder to do than the job was.
  13. I though i had seem two methods for leveling off the saddle bag rails but can only find one. Anyone have any idea what happenend to the other. Any help or suggestions would be helpful. Joe
  14. Hi folks, "Captain Inept" here. Been farting around with these new saddlebag lower rails and I just cannot seem to get them low enough so that they follow the bottom "line" of the bags. As soon as I start to tighten them :confused24:they raise up ..... tried adjusting the mounting bars as low as possible.. still no go! Any ideas, someone MUST of ran into this before? thanks
  15. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO I READ A POST ON HOW TO REFIT THE RAILS ON THE 2ND GEN. I WAS A LITTLE ANXIOUS ABOUT DRILLING SO CLOSE TO THE FENDER. BUT TODAY I DECIDED TO GIVE IT A GO. SORRY I DONT HAVE ANY PICS BEING THAT IM COMPUTER ILLITERATE.. BUT MY HATS OFF TO WHO EVER WROTE THAT POST.. THEY LOOK GREAT NOW..IN FACT IT WAS EASY.TOOK ME ABOUT AN HOUR..TOOK LONGER TO REMOVE THE BAGS THAN TO DO THE FIX. GLAD I FOUND YOU GUYS AND GALS.. BE SAFE..
  16. Need some help here guys if you would...I have read all of the post on lowering the bag rails to make the "LINE" a little more eye appealing....I have checked the Venturers.org site...Drill new hole....yes...no.... Another was no new hole..but use existing hole that is their and drill one new hole in the rail?? I was wondering if some of you experts on this might look and the rails now and tell me if they can be lowered as much as an inch...they way I measure it... please look here: http://picasaweb.google.com/gharbourjr/2006RoyalStarVenture/photo?authkey=2CE6TTT04BI#5178871605343716242 Any input would be appreciated... Thank you in advance for your time.. George In Virginia...
  17. Hey guys, thanks for having me on the board. I have a 2006 RSTD that I am installing saddle bag trim rails on. I was wondering if anybody could direct me to a site or place that sells the side marker lights that fit these rails. Sort of like Harley offers on there dresser bikes. Thanks, Jerry
  18. has anyone out there used harley rails on their 2nd gen i see alot mor harley rails on ebay then venture rails .and if so was there alot of modifing to them to get them to look right ? its one of the last things i want to put on mine
  19. Just about everyone thinks the stock mounting for the Yamahaha saddlebag chrome trim rails is poorly done. Not only do the rails slant upward from front to rear, which makes them not match the lines of the bags, but they almost always rub on the bottom of the turn signals. There are a couple of easy fixes for this. Others have advocated drilling a new mounting hole in the bike trim below the stock one with the welded nut behind it, thus lowering the rear of the rails. This works just fine, but for some reason I didn't want to drill a new hole in the bike. So I tried an alternative - I just drilled new holes in the upper corners of the rails themselves, next to the original mounting hole. This does not lower the rail quite a much as you probably would if you drilled the new hole in the bike instead, but I think it is good. Here are a couple of pictures to show how they look when mounted this way. Sorry for the poor quality - took them with my cell phone instead of finding the good camera! Goose
  20. Do I have to purchase the chrome rails that go around the side (not on the lid) of the saddlebags from Yamaha? Do other manufacturers fit? Also, does the set shown in the Yammie catalogue for the Royal Star, they come to a point on the front, fit the RSV? Thanks.
  21. I stumbled across a chrome set of side covers in the J&P catolgue for $130 ... half the cost from the local gouger. Gonna be a late xmas present methinks, but I have yet to find a set of chrome rails for the saddlebags, other than from Yammie at $275. I've seen OEM's on Ebay, but with the shipping and the never knowing what the duty will be, I have not bothered. Has anyone else seen them from other manufacturers maybe? And does the set for the Royal Star (comes to a point at the front) fit the Venture too? Thanks and merry christmas all.
  22. Went to a sister dealership of my dealer today and got a Major Score on chrome and accessories for the scoot . MSRP for the Tinted Lower Wind Vents are $193.95 and for the Saddle Bag Lid Trim Rails $177.95 . I got the the Vents for $100.00 NIB (he has been holding for me for a while) and the SB Trim Rails for $20.00 (opened package , but still new) for Tim . The dealership is clearing out all old inventory in stock on Star Chrome and some other stock in store only . I cleaned out the last of the RSV chrome and accessories , but they have other Star line accessories left . My favorite salesman there is going to round up a list of items remaining with closeout pricing as time allows him and send to me and I will post . As I was there , I saw a $200.00+ leather bag go out the door for $53.00 . That salesman has my e-mail and will send me a list as I have stated above . BEER30
  23. I just bought a lift (ATV and motorcycle lift) for raising my wife's 2005 1100 v-star up so I can do oil changes and other maintenance. Before I do the first lift, aside from ensuring it doesn't fall off, is there any other info I would need such as putting blocks on the lift arms so that the arms don't hit the engine? It looks like at least one arm would be under part of the engine which sticks out under the frame rails. Thanks
  24. I have my bag rails and front fender rails coming in on Friday and wanted to install this weekend...If anyone has done this, is there something to the install that I might need to know that would make it easier....I know I have to drill a hole in the front fender and if I want to lower the bag rails in the rear another hole will need to be drilled in the back (venturers.org site). Any tricks, shortcuts, tools that make this easier please reply.. George in Virginia:feedback:
  25. Iam looking at the Diamond R light rails, does it come with rails or do you need to get them from Yamaha. From photos they look different but Diamond R photos dont show them with the kit Thanks:confused24:
