  1. It doesn't happen all the time, but here goes. I have an '05 RSV. When I use the CB talk button on the left handle bar grip, the CB changes channels. As I sit here, it just hit me to try the passenger talk button and see what happens, so next time I will. If I have the display set to view the radio and push the talk button, the radio changes channels going thru the preset channels. It is happening more frequent now but not all the time. I have had all the connectors apart inside the fairing and under the seat to clean and apply dielectric grease and still have the problem. Any ideas??
  2. Just a comment on the new Jensen model JHD910 AM/FM Radio I purchased a few weeks back, and installed in a tank back for use on the new 08 RSTD. This is a very good quality radio, and I am very impressed with its performance. If anybody needs this type of radio for installation in, a boat, truck, RV , heavy equipment, etc. etc. I highly reccomend it. Yes its expensive !! but seems to be well worth the price. ( and its small ) and easy to mount, for wherever needed. ( price, about $200.00 ) :cool10:
  3. Sena SMH10B-10 Review This is a review of my new Sena SMH10 Bluetooth Headset and how well it functions for my particular application. Spoiler alert! It works extremely well! The Sena is a replacement for a three year old Scala Cardo Q2 headset. I considered a new Scala 4 but the reviews were not stellar. I have tried several different wired systems over the years but have a need to go wireless for some of my activities. I have used starcom, kenedy, rider and a couple others. Basically I need connectivity between the headset and the following items: 2 GPSs, phone, MP3, intercom, ham/wx band radio. Why so much stuff? I have only one motorcycle and it needs to meet all the requirements for its intended duties; pleasure rides, long distance endurance rides (IBA), touring, bicycle charity ride escort (Motorcycle Marshal), and anything else that comes to mind. The idea is to throw my leg over the FJR1300, turn on the headset and go. No fuss, no hassle, just go. I will not discuss the installation and set up of all this equipment here. Only the bluetooth connectivity and headset operation. Here are the general equipment specs: Headset - Sena SMH10B-10 FW V4.1, BT V3.0 GPSs - Garmin Zumo 550 Ham/WX Radio - Yeasu FTM10R Transceiver, AM/FM/VHF/UHF, Dual channel Bluetooth Phone - Apple iPhone 4 The Sena SMH10 allows several connection profiles including Headset Profile, Hands-free Profile (HFP), Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), Audio Video Remote control Profile (AVRCP). I have yet to try all the possible profile combinations but have already found that by simply using HFP and A2DP everything works as I need. With the multiple connects and the availability of the SM10 Dual Stream Stereo Transmitter (dongle), which allows wired audio connections, the connectivity is nearly limitless. The basic helmet mount comes with a single stereo 3.5mm input. My particular needs have been met without having to acquire the SM10 dongle. The old Scala Q2 worked pretty well but two major problems were the short battery life (3-4hrs) when connected to the ham radio, and the fact that it could not be paired to anything else when the ham radio was in use. When not using the ham radio, it was paired to another headset (intercom) and the GPS which also paired to the phone and those worked well also. Battery life was then extended to a more realistic 6 hours or so. The Sena allows for multiple connections via HFP profile and allows me to connect to the ham radio, GPS, and intercom at the same time. I use A2DP profile for the GPS to allow stereo MP3 streaming. Another plus for the Sena is the available volume is 3x that of the Scala. Instead of straining to hear, I am able to run it at about 75% volume at highway speeds. The audio is clearer and has more bass than the Scala even though the speakers are only slightly thicker. With the helmet on, I can fill up with gas at the pump, walk inside the store while still hearing and talking on the radio or phone. While assisting a down or injured rider, I can stay in contact via the ham radio with out having to carry a separate hand held radio on my belt. Audio reports from the phone and ham radio have been very positive. Audio prompts from the menu system are nice. I found this SMH10 on ebay for about $160. Not bad when comparing to other available units.
  4. Had hooked up headset to go for a ride. Once hooking plug in from Helmet to the bike we recevied a very high pitch squeal. The radio works just fine without the helmet being pluged into bike. It does it with two sperate helmets and front seat and back seat get the same noise. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Hal
  5. So, I finally broke down and bought a fairing for my 2007RSTD Midnight. I got it off Ebay new for a good price. It's fiberglass and has spots for 4 speakers and a radio. I think it may be a Reckless or at least looks like one. My problem now is what brand radio and speakers should I add? What have you guys used? I know it should ne a marine one i guess. I would appreciate some help. Thanks
  6. I went to the Hot Springs AR rally this past weekend. Yesterday morning getting ready to come back home from Hot Springs I went to start my 07 RSV and it just clicked when I hit the start button. I noticed when I hit the start button all the lights and the radio shut off. The radio did not come back on. I turned the key off and back on and it started fine, but had to turn the radio back on and all of my radio preset channels were gone. It did this one more time on the way home at one of the stops. I am thinking from the threads I read this morning it is in the ignition switch or could be the ignition wiring. I will not be able to check out the wiring till Friday. Need to check my warranty and find out when it expires since it is an 07 model and I bought it used.
  7. I posted this in the audio thread but wanted to throw this out here and see if anyone had the same issue. I just picked up my 85 and installed a new set of 100W speakers since the old ones sounded like the cones were dried out. Well that was a waste of time and money. The new ones sound the same. It is very distorted and the bass and lower frequencies are the worse. The volume also appears to be very high. What would make the system distort and sound like broken speaker mebranes. Sounds the same with AM/FM/Casette. I do not have headsets. I do notice that when I walk around the bike with the radio on that the FM signal varies. Not sure how to improve that as well. AM/FM switch on the control unit does not work. I have to turn the radio on and off and then sometimes it changes between AM/FM.
  8. Problem, RSTD, has NO Radio. Solution " Jensen JHD910 " Marine quality AM/FM Wx band radio. Bought one, installed in a Tank Bag, Installed antenna, Works great !! Some problems with Ignition Noise on AM band, but my new home brew antenna has almost solved the problem. Anyway, Its a darn good Radio !!! But--- Its expensive, About $200.00 bucks, Size, its only 5 in wide, 3 1/3 in high and about 1 3/4 inch thick. A deffinate plus for mounting, Takes AUX input for MP-3 players,
  9. I was looking for someone that has the radio controller on the handlebars for a 2nd Gen. Mine seems to acting up and not all the script shows on the screen so I just want to see if the controller is at fault or the nut behind the wheel. Any body got one to lend me to try out and potentially sell? Bubber Bike is 2006 Midnight Venture
  10. I heard about this forum from the gentleman i purchased my bike from a year ago. it has been such a good bike I've had no issues so I spent my time riding instead of logging on. I do have an issue that came up today. I have a fully charged batter, fuses all check out, ground appear to be in place but I have NOTHING when i turn the key. it ran fine yesterday. help anyone!! Update: after taking off a bunch of plastic and removing the radio, i found a broken switch. not sure what it is, want to order a new one. it is a switch that attaches to the main buss fuse and is mounted inside the radio compartment. it has a knob that you push/pull to make something work. after i put the switch pieces back together, i now have power. it doesn't look like the kill switch (1NL-82501-00-00) that the yamaha dealer suggested. any guesses out there. help!!!! thanks for your time and input. final solution: I figured out the switch mystery. A previous owner put in an anti-theft switch. I found a perfect match at O'Reilly auto parts. A 75-amp push/pull switch. I'm going to get a new one and replace the one I reassembled previously. Thank you to all who gave me possible solutions.
  11. I'm a Electronic Engineer, and have a set of 1st gen radio/intercom parts to "tinker with" on their way to me. In preparation to figure out how these things work and how to fully troubleshoot/ repair them does anyone have any detailed information about the setup? connector pinouts wiring diagrams? etc?? I am hoping to come up with a document to help others keep their radios working and to troubleshoot them. I also have a secret plan to upgrade my 1st gen with a stock radio. I need the space in the fairing for my Ham radio transcever, so the car stereo and it's mount will need to go. Also as a note, if anyone has any dead radio parts they are willing to sell cheap, I am certian I will need more "victims" to be disected on the bench. I might be able to find a common failure point if I go through enough of them.
  12. OK, I know most folks are not to interested In AM Radio Reception on motorcycles. However: If you are, I have hit on a simple ( but cost a few bucks ) way to greatly improve AM Radio reception on the bike, and also cars. Being a Ham Radio Op, helps a little here. ( I'm also an antenna, "freek" in addition to a Motorcycle adict) Anyway, by modifying some Unused, Ham radio Antanna's I have come up with a greatly improved AM Antenna for the bike. If interested, PM me for the Details, if you are interested in an Antenna project, IF, better AM reception is of interest to you.
  13. Do any of you over here in the UK have any idea how to change the radio so I can pick up Uk channels? My '08 Venture was imported from the US new. So far I can only recieve the odd channel very badly. I know that Dobels Honda change the US import Goldwings, but they won't spill the beans! Thanks if you can advise what to do.
  14. RSTD no stereo. I want to set up and use my sirius radio system. I will have speakers in front on handle bars and in speaker pockets on trunk. Question is what do I need to power my sirius radio to work (besides 12 volt socket) Will I have to install a stereo with an aux output or can I get something that will work other then a stereo that can be tucked away and out of site. Any suggestions? Joe
  15. My radio is giving me trouble and it is not always the same symptoms. Often is locks up completely or locks up partially. At times I will not be able to change channels or change settings. It does not seem to follow any pattern although I think it is better when you shut the key off and back on. Sometimes it will not play at all. Often times FM or AM stations will cut out when I open the throttle and immediately come back on when I let off (kinda sounds like a loose connection on this symptom). Any thoughts? Ryan
  16. which side does the radio arial go? is it the one with the male tread or the female tread
  17. I found this little marine radio when looking for something to replace my stock radio in the VR. The radio is the Prospec Electronics MIL-PRV15. It is a compact all aluminum watertight housing that fits in a 3" round hole and is held in place by a U-shaped bracket from the back. The amp is 40W x 4 and has plenty of power to light up the stock speakers. You also have the ability to plug in a USB flash drive with your favorite MP3's as a source or use the AUX in jacks. Prospec also makes a moisture proof USB-AUX jack that I opted for to bring the USB and AUX jacks to the radio panel. I grabbed the radio for $99.95 at overtons.com. I got the remote jack at the company's website for another $20 plus shipping. http://www.prospecelectronics.com/product_info.php?products_id=136 The LED switch in the lower right is connected to a DPDT relay that routes the output to either the speakers or to the headset cable. I also added a 20dB pad (diagram on request) to the headset output to limit the volume to the headset.
  18. I’m desperately hoping someone here can give me a clue, my radio has died and I have no clue what to do. I pulled out the cassette player to make a spot to stick my iPod. When I put everything back together the radio no longer works. It acts like the antenna isn’t there, the aux input plays fine, but I get nothing on FM and only static on AM and CB (though I never use the CB so maybe there just isn’t any traffic around here). The connector is plugged into the amp. I checked continuity back from the plug that goes into the amp to the antennas. Both the base and the antenna on the CB side checked out. On the radio only the base checked out, but I don’t know if that’s normal or not. There isn’t any connection between the cassette and the radio is there, I hope? Anyone have any ideas? Oh, this is a 2005 Venture.
  19. I have a 2006 RSV with 43,133 miles. Has anyone installed any type of aftemarket radio and or radio/amp? My amp is toasted and the cost for a new one is $1,300. I found several on ebay for around $300. I dont use the CB, I have removed the cassette deck, added a port for my iphone in the faring, and I also removed my plugs for the intercom. Basically all I use are the radio and Aux for my iphone. I have found several marine grade radio's with built in amps etc....just wondering if anyone might have some suggestions on aftermarket stuff.

    Antenna buzzing

Ok... So, I installed an aftermarket Radio and an antenna from my local CTC. The Radio is buzzing like crazy with antenna installed, but shuts up when it's unplugged. The antenna is installed correctly - I think. I thought it might not be grounded well enough so I removed the antenna and ground it directly to the frame... still buzzing. HELP
  21. does anyone have for sale/trade a left side fairing cover for an MK1 standard? i removed radio and cassette. sorry, Earl got cassette, but i have the radio. also, i imagine the pocket is different also. i would like one in original condition, no cut-outs.
  22. the problem I'm having is sometimes i can change it from say radio to Aux and sometimes I can't... or if I'm on radio sometimes it will change stations and sometimes it wont... I've took it apart and used electronics cleaner but that hasn't helped. Any suggestions?
  23. Here is my dilemma. Pulling out of the drive this morning my OEM radio went dead, no power to it. Not even the little green lite that shows it has power. I have checked the fuses in the main fuse box, the ground to frame, cant figure out where it lost connectivity. I pulled out my electrical schematic and it shows two fuses for radio, one is a 1amp the other is a 4amp, I guess thats what it means, its labeled 1A & 4A. One is on a blue wire the other a red/blue. Anyone know where I can find these 2 fuses..............I am stumped. This is the first time I have ever had a problem with this radio. The CB powers on but cant hear it because no power to amp or radio..................HELP!!!! I have also checked the connectors to radio, made sure they were clean and used dielectric grease on them.
  24. I'm in the market for purchasing a Radio Remote Control Unit for a 2nd Gen RSV. I've tried Pinwall, eBay and thought I'd try here as well. They're quite expensive new so I'm looking used first. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jakbag
  25. I need a little help with my 2001 RSV. My radio controller will not shut off, change channels and none of the buttons work except the volume control. I reviewed a boat load of previous posts and therefore split the fairing and checked the connections and all were fine. On Weds I installed new speakers, removed the CD changer and installed an AMP and everything was working just fine. Today, I go out and about 2 miles into my ride the radio controller starts to malfunction. Here's a very interesting thing: the rear push to talk for the passenger will change the radio station when it's pressed. Now that's VERY ODD to me, especially when the radio controller won't do anything except adjust the volume. I will ateempt to trouble shoot again tomorrow. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. JAKBAG
