  1. Hey all, My buddy just bought an 08 Venture. His radio won't turn on. If he puts the fuse in the back light lights up but never shuts off. Any ideas? Thanks T.C.
  2. I went on a PGR mission today and ended up in the ditch. I was behind another bike that froze in a harpin corner and lost control with me behind him. I had nowhere to go as I was committed to the corner and did not want to hit him so I ditched it in the ditch. Now for the bad news, I need a front lower left cowling, and a radio exterior shell. the radio works but the case is severely damaged. Any one have any of these??? The other bad new is a cracked rib or two and two scuffed and brused knees and of course the pride issue. I did finish the mission with 200+ miles so i kept most of my pride. Any help on the two items would be appreciated as I am heading to Freebirds MD and at least need the radio repaired. I will need to paint the bike but don't know if I can accomplish this before MD. I guess I need to donate to the pot now!! WHERE???? Thanks:depressed:

    risers

Just recieved my 1 1/2 risers today.I have never put a set on.Is there an easy way to put them on.It seems my radio cable is a little tight.Any and all suggestions appreciated.
  4. Has anyone figured out how to bluetooth your radio and cb player to your bluetooth helmet. With any combination of cell phone gps etc?
  5. Has anyone had a problem with their radio not wanting to search for channels manually? Mine worked when I bought it last month, now when I hold the up/down button for longer than 2 seconds it just goes to the next preset station instead of searching for stations. Thanks Mongo
  6. I'm new on here- evidently:) So I will learn if this is the right spot to post or not... But I have a 84' Venture Royale that I have fell in love with! I bought it 3 years ago. Have started to redo the bike. Did a full body fix and new single color paint job, with alot of beautiful nature scenery airbrushing:)) Re-did the seat etc etc. I put usually 10,000km or 6000m + a year on it, and i plan on taking a COLD trip with it the end of March. It is currently at a local shop getting 2nd gear fixed:( and there is another smaller issue i need fixed- The Radio and one speaker... Does anyone have any ideas where to get a unit and speaker(s)? Things started not working the end of the season and i need the radio on longer rides. Generally this is my quoting vehicle, but I'm headed to PA to a friends soon. Any help will be appreciated- Thanks, Dwayne
  7. I have been working on my bike, got my cb working and radio working but I am unsure about the radio. Does this radio require an amp to get sound to the speakers? The radio comes to life and goes thru all the functions like it should but puts out no sound. I checked the speakers and they are in good condition. So my question is where is the amp if there is one, or what is it I might be doing wrong?
  8. Yesterday I washed the bike. Today while hitting the road I found that I could not get the radio to switch stations and the CB would come up as CBer. If I shut the bike down and fiddled with the buttons it would finally go off. If I turned it on I had the same issue again. Last year I had unplugged virtually any connection I came across and cleaned and dialectrically greased them, including the radio connections. I read up on some of the other threads involving this. Looks like it may just be a bad controller. Any thoughts on this??
  9. I had a Street Pilot III wired with Kennedy Tech cable into the intercom on my RSV. That way I would get GPS directions over my headset while leaving the stereo / CD Player / And Aux port free. I just got a Street Pilot 2730 and dont see any benefit of getting another Kennedy Tech cable for it because the 2730 has an MP3 player and XM Radio and I cant separate that from the GPS Directions. With that said should I just use the 2730's audio out port and plug it into my AUX port or is there a way to separate the GPS directions from the MP3 and XM Radio audio ? If I do that then I can not listen to the radio or CD player if I want to hear the GPS Directions. Am I getting this right ? It also has an FM Modulator but that will give me the same results.
  10. I may be the only one, but when looking at the radio controls, and how they are mounted they look out of place. Also I dont like having to move my hand to adjust the volume. I realise they are mounted so that they sit "flat" or "level" when the bike is upright but looking at other things like master cylinders being on a slope just makes the control look ot of place. So I am modifying my ounting bracket. Ill post pictures tomorrow. Looks like this now http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc06b3127ccefc223ca38bbf00000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Bracket before modification http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc06b3127ccefc236e5cab2500000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Modified http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc06b3127ccefc23c51c6a9800000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Remounted it and closed the "gap" I ground out untill it was in perfect line with the master cylinder angle http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc06b3127ccefc230eeaaba300000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Welded and ground down http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc06b3127ccefc23cb96eb2500000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Now I used a small amount of JB Weld to put a skim coat on it to cover grind marks. It is drying now. By tomorrow I will have it sanded, primed, and painted. Ill post finished pics tomorrow. The fit is awesome now. Cannot wait to get this little mod done so my thumb will reach controls and it looks more in place.
  11. I'm not getting any sound out of my left side speakers. Haven't split the fairing yet but, you guys that have had the same problem, am I looking at a bad connection or is it likely a radio issue?
  12. I bought a J&M 2003B, cb-intercom, its on a 09 RSTD,cb is ok. I also instaled a Jensen JHD910 fm radio that is great except that if i run my J&M intercom volume high enough to talk, it makes a loud hissing-crackling noise, too loud to listen to radio. To use intercom , rider slaps me on helmet telling me to turn FM radio off & intercom on. Talking over the hissing is no prob but for nearly $1000 bucks, I feel that the intercom shouldnt hiss. The FM radio is clear. Anybody else have this prob? Thanks TC
  13. I have been using bluetooth headsets for operation of my Yeasu ham radio for about a year. It worked very well but I could not use the same headset with all of the onboard electronics. If I was going to need intercom and CB, I had to switch to a wired system. I got tired of changing headsets on my helmet and decided to integrate all the electronics into one system. Since this upgrade is fairly extensive and will require a lot of disassembly of the bike, I decided to complete a couple other upgrades at the same time. Here are the planned upgrades: 1. Upgrade/replace antennas for CB and Ham Radio 2. Install antenna ground plane to improve antenna operation 3. Install interface for GPS with bluetooth phone and Ham Radio into existing audio system 4. Install fuse block to clean up electrical connections 5. Install LEDs on front half of bike to compliment rear half lighting 6. Install auxiliary LED turn signals for visibility from the sides and off angle I have been collecting the required items for some time. Here is a photo of the interface from Kennedy Technology Group, Inc. http://gallery.me.com/k1oj/100179/IMG_1983/web.jpg?ver=12959141270001/ The antennas and ground plane are out in the garage. I have about 2 weeks to complete this project before I need to use the radio. I will attempt to document this process as I progress.

    risers

Some of the members have put risers on their bike. What are some of the problems I might expect?:Venture:What about the radio cable, will it be long enough?
  15. In a brilliant move while uncovering the Venture I snagged the cover and broke the antenna, the one with the black plastic piece in the middle. I broke it off at the top of the black piece. I thought this was the CB antenna. I took it off and went ridding and found that my FM radio reception was very poor. So was this the Radio antenna? I have looked back over a couple of post but still am confussed, I would like to replace both antennas with one is there a post that explains how to do this and is this a complicated process? What is the best antenna to use? Thanks for any help!
  16. My bike is an 06' Rsv that was first purchased by the previous owner in Oct. 05. I have never had to have the bike on a tender the year and a half that I have owned it. Lately I noticed that sometimes when I went out to start it, The crank was a little weak, so I put a tender on it. I went out the other day, turned on the ignition, turned off the radio, everything seemed fine, pulled out choke, then pressed the starter. It was like I turned off the ignition, nothing, no lights, no radio, completely dead. I am thinking, I probably need to replace the battery anyway, seeing that is 5 years old. Is this the most likely culprit? What is the best battery to put in the bike? I hate electrical problems.
  17. What do I need to hook up xm radio to my Zumo 550? gunk:shock3:
  18. My radio seems to dislike the cold. A couple of days ago, I could not get the radio to turn on. When I got home, I turned on the CB... ok. Then the radio...ok. Switched them all off... ok. Today, on a rode, I was slowing for an intersection, and heard loud but garbled voices. The CB had switched itself on. I cannot turn it off, change the channel, or switch to headset. I also cannot get the radio to come on. Is this a fair weather radio I have on my 08 Venture? Is there a quick fix? Or is this a guarantee job?
  19. Does the radio display in my 1st gen Venture have a bcklight? Riding home in the dark the other night and could not see the buttons. The LED display is visable and the green power can be seen but nothing else. The CLASS controller has a backlight so I would think the radio should be also. Just wanted to know before taking it apart.
  20. does anybody know where i can get the wire diagram for a 2006 RSV radio and AMP?
  21. Well, I went to put the bike away for the winter and learned a few things. Last year when I owned the vstar I pulled the seat to hook up the tender and found that I had no battery. Today I pulled the side cover off thinking I was so smart and found fuses. I than pulled the other cover off and found the over flow for the coolant. It was now time to read the manual and discovered that I needed to pull the seat off. Well, since I had the owners manual out I thought that I would look into why the radio or Ipod keeps going in and out. Well most of you probably know by now that the CB radio was on causing the music to go in and out. Oh well, lesson learned; can't wait for spring!
  22. I tried to order this part from Yamaha and they said that this part is no longer available. I'm needing the small black washer (wierd sharpe) that slides over the threaded portion of the chrome bar of the entire radio module. The chrome bar is what you grip in order to lift the entire radio module out of the faring. I have an 89 VR. I'm hoping that someone might have an extra radio module unit that they are using for spare parts.
  23. I am looking for a replacement antenna for my 1985 Ventureproject bike. Does anyone know of a direct replacement or do I need to make an adapter for the mount to accept standard radio antennas. Will such a set up work Michael Smegielski Waterbury, CT
  24. Here is what is going on, My stereo comes on but you can't hear it either through the speakers or headset. If I turn it up all the way you can hear it a little bit. The CB radio works as it should except when I hit the push to talk button for the passenger it will sometimes transmit and sometimes it won't. After hitting the button a couple of times and error message comes up on the display. I removed the front of the fairing and started to unplug, clean, put grease in and plug things back together. I unplugged the big cable that the ends look like your headset hookup and the stereo started working but the CB didn't work any longer so I assume this is the cable for the cb radio. Has anyone had this trouble? If not I guess I should start at the Passenger control box and work my way through the cb then forward towards the stereo its self. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated OH yea I ride a 2000 RSV Thanks
  25. Are the radio units ( amp and tuner) the same between all 1st gen Ventures? The radio in my 83 VR has given up and I need a replacement. I see some on EBAY for other years and they look the same buy will they plug into my amp and radio display and work?
