  1. I have a 2006 RSV with 43,133 miles. Has anyone installed any type of aftemarket radio and or radio/amp? My amp is toasted and the cost for a new one is $1,300. I found several on ebay for around $300. I dont use the CB, I have removed the cassette deck, added a port for my iphone in the faring, and I also removed my plugs for the intercom. Basically all I use are the radio and Aux for my iphone. I have found several marine grade radio's with built in amps etc....just wondering if anyone might have some suggestions on aftermarket stuff.
  2. Hey VR family I recently bought a 1985 venture royale. The problem is I have a freshly charged battery but when I turn the ignition to the on position I get nothing no dash lights no radio no headlights. When I turn it to acc only the radio and compressor display come on . HELP
  3. I got a wild idea with all this talk of amps and radios to change out the radio head unit. I had one with a AM/FM, CD player, Sirius Satellite radio and Aux input. So I carefully removed all the stock stuff and commenced to installing and rewiring for a modern head unit. While I had everything strewn all over the garage I decided to install an amp as well and the requisite control modules for the Sirius Sat radio and what the heck might as well get new speakers too. So here I sit, tired but happy to report the sound system is wired. Now all I need to do is mount the head unit and button everything up. It should be illegal to have this much fun on a weekday System now consists of: Kenwood Head Unit AM/FM/CD/SAT/AUX Kenwood Amp 2 Channel 350W Pioneer Speakers 2-Way 120W
  4. Took the Venture for it's maiden ride today and was impressed. After spending the last week working bugs out of it, all went well. I found myself searching for another gear but that's out of habit. I know the nature of this beast is it likes rpm's. Acceleration was impressive for a bike this size, especially when pushing to 7k before shifting. The ride was very comfortable. It was only 50 degrees and I had a side wind gusting to 30 mph so I couldn't be too judgmental. Still need to change the thermostat and do a little polishing. Think I'm going to de-link the brakes. Personal preference, please don't flame me. Couple of questions: Does the CB antenna also work for the radio too? I was able to play the radio in the garage but was cutting in and out on road. The antenna was missing when I purchased it. Are there any external parts on the carbs that would be affected by carb cleaner? Would like to clean them up a little before re installing the plastic. Thanks, Steve
  5. Have a 2011 Yamaha Stryker - Am looking to move up to a 2012 Venture. Question: If I purchase a helmet with built in speakers and connector - can I connect to the factory radio and listen to the radio through the helmet speakers? tia..
  6. I want to be able to use my GPS ( BT paired with phone) and XM at the same time. I understand from reading previous post there is a limitation when more than one device on the "AUX"...I see where some have used an inline amp which will correct this issue. The question- I want to be able to use the CB radio also- I understand that you can use a mic-splitting cable (Buddy Rich Cable)- to interface with the GPS-however will this setup work ? GPS with BR cable ( to allow for phone functionality) - XM- connected to the inline amp. Will you be able to use the CB radio with full functionality ? I am thinking this may be a reach, but if you do not ask. You will never know. Thanks..... 09 Venture
  7. Has any one swapped out their OEM radio/cassette for a newer and up to date waterproof marine radio? I can imagine there would be no easy way to make it work with the headsets, but still, I think it would be very nice and the Jensen's are relatively inexpensive.
  8. Can the 12V ACC plug (located on the left inside of the front fairing of my 06 Venture) handle powering up my GPS and a Roady2 satellite radio? Boomer....who sez thanks in advance for any responses.
  9. I found a XMsnap radio at Best Buy on the day after Christmas for $19.99 and decided to see if it would work in the DC outlet in the fairing. Since I had already split the audio input, there was a 3.5mm plug to use for the audio output of the XM radio. In short, this radio works great. All I had to do was locate the included antenna, plug it and the audio cable into the XMsnap and plug the unit into the DC outlet. Quick & easy and it sounds great. See pictures.
  10. I am looking to install some kind of audio/speaker system on my 1998 Tour Classic. (I really want to get rid of the ear buds.) What sort of systems have you found that will produce good sound at 80 mph without sounding like a transistor radio? Shark has a system that is pretty inexpensive, but when I listen the the videos that they have, the system sounds just OK. Thoughts??!!??
  11. I can do all this with a Venture and get to listen to the radio at the same time. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=Cj6ho1-G6tw&vq=medium
  12. After seeing several variations on mounting some accessories on a 1st gen, I thought I would share what I have done. In mounting the GPS, I wanted it to be easily visible, stable and not in the way of other things. By mounting a piece of Plexiglas on the left side handlebar riser, it is off center enough to not be in the way of reaching for the ignition switch and it is stable. It is also easy to take off when parked. Years ago, the vent on the left side broke and I installed a radar detector in the hole. It works very good shooting through fairing and is out of the way and not noticeable. This helps when I make a corner and drive into a Virginia State Police roadblock as detectors are illegal there. I also have a switch on the panel near the radio where I can quickly turn it off. I have also mounted an inside/outside thermometer above the detector and have the temp pickup mounted under the mirror. This gets it out in the wind and also shades it from the sun. I put a sun shield over the thermometer and that helps. With this bike being a standard, I made an aluminum cover that mounts the radio at a 30 degree angle to help keep the CD player from skipping when I hit a bump and it also makes it very easy to change CD's while riding. I also put a row of switches in the panel cover for added lights and the detector. This may be a bit different from some of the others I have seen, but it works for me. RandyA
  13. Looking for a radio controll module. The one under the front fairing. So if anyone is parting out a crashed bike or replacing their radio with something else please let me know.I saw pinwall had one for $300 was hoping to find one for less than that.
  14. I'm thinking about installing a new head unit in my venture. It already has an old aftermarket Vetter radio in it, but my question is, am I just going to have to cut a bigger hole in the cover for the new head unit to fit inside? I couldn't find any info on this. Does anyone have any experience doing this?

  16. Has anyone had problems with their radio not producing sound. When I turn ther key on I hear like a pop and that is all i get. While it was still under warrenty the dealer fixed the volue control oN the handle bars. I checked the fuse. it is good so now I dont know what to do next. :Please help if you can.
  17. ok guys, a little help here please! I turn my radio on with the remote on left handlebar, start listening to favorite tunes, everything going ok, and then about in 10 mins or so the remote starts jumping from setting to setting by itself. It will go to the bass, treble, fade settings back to aux then sp/headphones etc. Cant figure it out.Is it the remote or the radio? Anyone else have this problem? HELP!!!!!! OH 2002 ROYAL STAR VENTURE.
  18. I own an '88 V.R. with 61K miles. Everything works properly except the factory AM/FM radio. Turn the radio on & you can hear static like it's not on station, but it's digital. Ride a while and the station may come on for a few miles clearly then it's back to static. C.B. and tape deck sound great throught the factory speakers and the intercom system works. It has one antenna with a splitter or balun under the C.B. I've checked the coax from the antenna all the way back to the radio and everything's connected. I left the radio on while I was tracing the coax connections in case I found a poor connection but it never changed from static. It sounds like the tuner's off station, but why would it kick in and out? Has anyone experienced this? Thanks!!
  19. Ok, picked up the bike after my 600 mile service. Ended up riding in the rain and had my helmet on, my intercom or radio was squeeling off and on in my helmet. I have ridden in the rain before and it didn't do that. When I stopped and switched to speaker speakers sounded ok but it was still squeeling in the helmet . I unplugged and plugged into the rear, no squeel. Tried my wife's dry helmet and ended up with the same result.
  20. So I have cleaned all the contacts and connectors on the audio system on my 1st gen and the radio plays only from the left speaker. Since the tape player is non-functional I'm not able to isolate this to just the tuner. What is strange is that when you power on the radio you can hear a "thump" from the right speaker. Because of this, I am suspecting either a bad right channel on the tuner or perhaps a bad wire from the tuner to the amp. I don't have a headset so I have not been able to test that circut to see if the problem is isolated to the speaker. Has anyone else experienced this and did you find a resolution? Can anyone offer me more advice on troubleshooting?
  21. I am about to install a radio/amp on my '06 RSTD. I know I can wire the amp directly to the battery leads however i would prefer to have the radio controlled by the ignition switch. I'm looking for how to instructions. Any help would be much appreciated.
  22. Does anyone have an identification diagram for the wires going to the cassette deck? I want to eliminate the one on the 88 but the radio wont play without it. Any ideas. seems like i have seen this in the past but i cant find it.
  23. I am trying to run my satellite radio and Garmin GPS off my aux. plug. I purchased a single to double plug but when i connect the GPS the radio's volume goes down to almost zero. I bought a "boostaroo" from Radio Shack which cures the radio problem but now the intereference from engine or ignition is also boosted to the point that the static is untolerable. Any suggestions?
  24. Just wondering if I posted this subject in the wrong forum, since there have been no replies to it, so I will repost it in this section. I'm still interested if someone has the answer. I PM'ed Condor about a spark related issue and I posed the question to him as to why it is necessary to have a resistor sparkplug cap and a resistor sparkplug. Answer me this question, aren't resistor plugs primarily used to supress electric pulses from interfering with a radio? Yes ,Ventures do have a radio, but isn't the primary reason for owning a motorcycle to ride it and not listen to the c@#p on a radio. Any comments, suggestions, and/or helpful advice? Condor mentioned that he thought that VGoose had posted on this subject at one time. Soooo..... Thanks all
  25. Here's an odd one. Bike is on the side stand. Turn the radio on, works fine. When I take the weight off the kickstand, while leaving it down, the radio cuts out. Put the bike back on the kickstand, radio works fine. I have put washers under the blue connecters thinking maybe that was it but that did not help. If I try the radio while riding it cuts in and out.
