  1. I heard about this forum from the gentleman i purchased my bike from a year ago. it has been such a good bike I've had no issues so I spent my time riding instead of logging on. I do have an issue that came up today. I have a fully charged batter, fuses all check out, ground appear to be in place but I have NOTHING when i turn the key. it ran fine yesterday. help anyone!! Update: after taking off a bunch of plastic and removing the radio, i found a broken switch. not sure what it is, want to order a new one. it is a switch that attaches to the main buss fuse and is mounted inside the radio compartment. it has a knob that you push/pull to make something work. after i put the switch pieces back together, i now have power. it doesn't look like the kill switch (1NL-82501-00-00) that the yamaha dealer suggested. any guesses out there. help!!!! thanks for your time and input. final solution: I figured out the switch mystery. A previous owner put in an anti-theft switch. I found a perfect match at O'Reilly auto parts. A 75-amp push/pull switch. I'm going to get a new one and replace the one I reassembled previously. Thank you to all who gave me possible solutions.
  2. Do any of you over here in the UK have any idea how to change the radio so I can pick up Uk channels? My '08 Venture was imported from the US new. So far I can only recieve the odd channel very badly. I know that Dobels Honda change the US import Goldwings, but they won't spill the beans! Thanks if you can advise what to do.
  3. My radio is giving me trouble and it is not always the same symptoms. Often is locks up completely or locks up partially. At times I will not be able to change channels or change settings. It does not seem to follow any pattern although I think it is better when you shut the key off and back on. Sometimes it will not play at all. Often times FM or AM stations will cut out when I open the throttle and immediately come back on when I let off (kinda sounds like a loose connection on this symptom). Any thoughts? Ryan
  4. RSTD no stereo. I want to set up and use my sirius radio system. I will have speakers in front on handle bars and in speaker pockets on trunk. Question is what do I need to power my sirius radio to work (besides 12 volt socket) Will I have to install a stereo with an aux output or can I get something that will work other then a stereo that can be tucked away and out of site. Any suggestions? Joe
  5. which side does the radio arial go? is it the one with the male tread or the female tread
  6. does anyone have for sale/trade a left side fairing cover for an MK1 standard? i removed radio and cassette. sorry, Earl got cassette, but i have the radio. also, i imagine the pocket is different also. i would like one in original condition, no cut-outs.
  7. the problem I'm having is sometimes i can change it from say radio to Aux and sometimes I can't... or if I'm on radio sometimes it will change stations and sometimes it wont... I've took it apart and used electronics cleaner but that hasn't helped. Any suggestions?
  8. Here is my dilemma. Pulling out of the drive this morning my OEM radio went dead, no power to it. Not even the little green lite that shows it has power. I have checked the fuses in the main fuse box, the ground to frame, cant figure out where it lost connectivity. I pulled out my electrical schematic and it shows two fuses for radio, one is a 1amp the other is a 4amp, I guess thats what it means, its labeled 1A & 4A. One is on a blue wire the other a red/blue. Anyone know where I can find these 2 fuses..............I am stumped. This is the first time I have ever had a problem with this radio. The CB powers on but cant hear it because no power to amp or radio..................HELP!!!! I have also checked the connectors to radio, made sure they were clean and used dielectric grease on them.
  9. I'm in the market for purchasing a Radio Remote Control Unit for a 2nd Gen RSV. I've tried Pinwall, eBay and thought I'd try here as well. They're quite expensive new so I'm looking used first. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jakbag
  10. I need a little help with my 2001 RSV. My radio controller will not shut off, change channels and none of the buttons work except the volume control. I reviewed a boat load of previous posts and therefore split the fairing and checked the connections and all were fine. On Weds I installed new speakers, removed the CD changer and installed an AMP and everything was working just fine. Today, I go out and about 2 miles into my ride the radio controller starts to malfunction. Here's a very interesting thing: the rear push to talk for the passenger will change the radio station when it's pressed. Now that's VERY ODD to me, especially when the radio controller won't do anything except adjust the volume. I will ateempt to trouble shoot again tomorrow. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. JAKBAG

    Antenna buzzing

Ok... So, I installed an aftermarket Radio and an antenna from my local CTC. The Radio is buzzing like crazy with antenna installed, but shuts up when it's unplugged. The antenna is installed correctly - I think. I thought it might not be grounded well enough so I removed the antenna and ground it directly to the frame... still buzzing. HELP
  12. I’m desperately hoping someone here can give me a clue, my radio has died and I have no clue what to do. I pulled out the cassette player to make a spot to stick my iPod. When I put everything back together the radio no longer works. It acts like the antenna isn’t there, the aux input plays fine, but I get nothing on FM and only static on AM and CB (though I never use the CB so maybe there just isn’t any traffic around here). The connector is plugged into the amp. I checked continuity back from the plug that goes into the amp to the antennas. Both the base and the antenna on the CB side checked out. On the radio only the base checked out, but I don’t know if that’s normal or not. There isn’t any connection between the cassette and the radio is there, I hope? Anyone have any ideas? Oh, this is a 2005 Venture.
  13. I ever done. For 5 years the radio on my 1st gen had very low volume.Yesterday, while working on the bike I ACCIDENTALLY pushed the mute button on the remote and the radio about blasted out my eardrums.I never knew that button was even there.Don needs to add a donate button for the dumb things we have done on these bikes.I feel better now.
  14. This time I hooked up my satellite radio and it worked ok but it kept cutting in and out don't know why.
  15. Iv'e looked through page after page, and can't find anybody having my problem. I can turn the key off of my 2002 RSV and put it on the kick stand and walk away, and the next thing you know the radio and my GPS that is plugged into my 12v outlet comes on. I can get back on the bike push the starter button, it won't start then I can set it back on the stand and it go's back off. All with the key in my hand. After standing it up, and it coming back on,then setting it back on the stand, and it going back off several times it stays off. Now it has set for a few days I get on the bike stand it up and it comes on. I start it, the battery is charged I turn it off and the radio and GPS is still on after the key is out. I lean the bike over on the stand it go's off.
  16. I heard a rumor this weekend that the FCC is doing changes to CB radio frequencies and if you don't do something by July 1, your radio won't work. Has anybody heard of this? And if so, what can be done to your radio?
  17. I found this little marine radio when looking for something to replace my stock radio in the VR. The radio is the Prospec Electronics MIL-PRV15. It is a compact all aluminum watertight housing that fits in a 3" round hole and is held in place by a U-shaped bracket from the back. The amp is 40W x 4 and has plenty of power to light up the stock speakers. You also have the ability to plug in a USB flash drive with your favorite MP3's as a source or use the AUX in jacks. Prospec also makes a moisture proof USB-AUX jack that I opted for to bring the USB and AUX jacks to the radio panel. I grabbed the radio for $99.95 at overtons.com. I got the remote jack at the company's website for another $20 plus shipping. http://www.prospecelectronics.com/product_info.php?products_id=136 The LED switch in the lower right is connected to a DPDT relay that routes the output to either the speakers or to the headset cable. I also added a 20dB pad (diagram on request) to the headset output to limit the volume to the headset.
  18. I have a chance to pick up a hoppe at a good price, However Hoppe tells me the Roadstar Fairing will not fit on the Tour Deluxe as the radio is set to low. Has anyone modified this fairing to fit a RSTD?
  19. i want to remove the radio, cassette, cb, and air ride controller ( air ride disconnected). what parts will i need to convert it to a Standard? fairing pockets and covers? i tried ebay but couldnt find exactly what i needed. does anyone have these parts?????? ps: i have a working radio, cassette, and cb.....
  20. First of all, I'm not an electronics guy so I'm not sure where to begin to trace down this problem. The radio on my '83 doesn't work at all. All I have done so far is try to deturnine if I'm getting power to it. I unplugged the plug from the back of the radio and tested all of the pins. I am getting power to some of them but I don't know if that really means anything. Anyway, I guess I'm just looking for a starting point to find the problem. I don't know if the tape deck works or not because I've been afraid to put a tape in it. When I turn the radio on, I don't get any lights or anything. Where should I begin? Thanks in advance for your help.
  21. I am fighting a crackling on the right speaker. It only happens when I am driving down the road. I could get it to happen by wiggling wires and have now determined that it is inside the amplifier. I have had the amplifier apart and looked for loose solder points or cracked circuit boards, can't find anything. I am getting frustrated. I would like to keep the factory radio for now, however, I think I may be getting close to giving up and switching to an aftermarket stereo. My question to everyone is, are you still using the factory radio or have most people switched to an aftermarket stereo? If you have switched, how did you install the aftermarket stereo?
  22. So after putting the fairing back together after fixing the wiring to my horn. I went for a ride today and no radio. I thought I checked all my connections while I had things apart but I must have hit the radio connection. So I'll be taking it all back apart tomorrow. I guess there is nothing I can check with out taking the fairing apart.
  23. The radio and CB in my 86 work. Its just that they aren't very loud. I would say that max volume gives about 50% output. My 89 easily blows it away in volume. Connections are good at the radio and amp. Any thoughts?
  24. A friend is looking at a NUVI gps and has been told that it wont broadcast fm to his bike fm radio. One salesguy has told him that only the weather reports will broadcast thru to his fm radio. he is looking to run some music from an sd card and get his gps voice directions through his speakers. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Or suggest a gps that will do this for him? Brian
  25. An Arab enters a taxi cab in Dallas , Texas .......... Once he is seated he asks the cab driver to turn off the radio because he must not hear music as decreed by his religion and; in the time of the prophet, there was no music, especially Western music, which is music of the infidel's and certainly no radio ........ So the cab driver politely switches off the radio, pulls over to the side, stops the cab and opens the back door. The Arab asks him: “What are you doing man?” The Texan answers: “In the time of the prophet there were no taxis. So get your ass out and wait for a camel.” You gotta love Texas
