  1. I've got a question on a set of Edsets I just installed. The original headsets come in loud and clear. The Edset however needs to have the intercom on 19 to be heard and the radio also has to be loud. Are there any attenuaters in the system that can be taken out of the system, or adjustment on the headset to help out/ Thanks, Kenw:confused07:
  2. I've read the threads on sterios but not found an answer to my question. I don't have to tell you how bad the '85 Royale radio is (if you have one). I've decided to swap it out with a modern radio with a CD player. But, here's my question, are there any out there that will mount vertically without a lot of CD skip? I'm desperate for decent music!
  3. First time it's done this... sitting still the radio sounds great, when i start moving i get bad static to the point you can't hear anything but the static. what's that all about?
  4. I have a 2000 mm edition. My front speakers quit working first then my left speakers in my headsets stated buzzing and then quit.I split the fairing and checked all of the connections. No improvements.I priced a new radio for almost $1000.00 Any suggestions,Fixes,Etc.....
  5. GeorgeS, I took your advice and have been spraying everything I can find but... I can turn on the cruise; all the lights come on, but pushing "set" no longer works. It used to work, although it would fall out now and then and the "resume" light would come on. I would reset it and it would work again. It won't set at all now. I have checked the clutch lever, sprayed the "set-resume"etc slider, cancel button, but I have not yet taken all that stuff apart. I have also adjusted and checked the brakes and throttle cables. Running out of ideas:confused24: The radio... works great except in the helmets. The left earpiece works, right one just barely. Does it in all the helmets but it works thru the speakers great. I suspect it is in the amp or one of the wires to/from the amp(the one in the left fairing) but I guess it could be in the radio itself. Got any ideas:think: And last but not least, the CB squelch don't work. It xmits and rec. just fine, both thru the speakers and headset(just the left one-see radio above) but it is always wide open squelch. Has anyone ever replaced the squelch pot. in one of these CBs Take any help I can get... TIA
  6. Hi all, I've been sculling about around here for a few months now and I have learned quite a lot about my bike. So now I have a question about my 84 VR. When I first bought it, the radio powered up but as there was no antenna I couldn't get any stations. The other day I finally replaced the antenna and now the radio will not even power up. I've checked the fuses and didn't see any blown ones. I haven't yet checked for power to the unit, don’t really know where to start. But seeing as the radio/cassette isn't working, would now be a good time to change it out to a more modern unit, one with a CD player? If so, what would you replace it with? Would a marine unit be a good choice? If I can get the old one working, does anybody know where I can get a new plastic cover for the cassette? I broke the corner off, trying to remove it one day. I then lost the piece before I could glue it back together. Thanks for all your help. I really enjoy visiting this place, and hope one day to be able to get to a rally, and meet a few of you. Bill
  7. I have an extra CB radio for a First Gen that I got on ebay for sale. I thought mine may have went out, but I was able to repair it. This radio appears to work with no problems as I hooked it up to my bike when my radio was out. The lettering is faded on the face, but other than that no problems. I can put it on your door step for $85.00. (continental US) SOLD
  8. Ok, so the mrs has fallen in love with the '09 RSV. I have been very slowly getting my 89 ready to paint, have been accumulating parts, and getting ready to put the bike back together this winter. I even have a set of mac mufflers on order. the bike has a new rear rotor, brakes front and rear, (progressive springs still in box) new clutch and slave, radio and cb dont work, all plastic is in good shape, most is sanded and ready to paint. A few of the tabs are broken, and the trunk lid needs some work where the hinge goes. It's not broken but is cracked. the only thing that didnt work before i stripped the bike down was the cruise, radio, and cb. 87000 miles, motor and tranny very strong. The question is would I get more out of the bike putting it back together and selling it in the spring, or parting it out over the next few months and saving the cash for downpayment? I know how hard it is to get parts for the 1st gens, so thinking this may not be a bad way to go.
  9. Hey guys, Over the weekend, my '03 Midnight started showing a weird problem. It's started cutting off under throttle! I have my iPod touch connected to it and at first, thought it was the cable, but today, the radio did the same thing. It lasts long enough to be annoying - after about 20 miles of country roads - but then it clears up, so no chance to examine anything and recreate the problem! Of course, it's six months out of warranty! Any ideas?
  10. I have a question to ask our members and guest. My 08 RSV has been in the shop now for 3 weeks with a radio problem (will not work, cuts in and out). The dealer has changed out the left rear speaker, entire radio unit, handlebar control head, wiring sub-harness and CB mich button and still cannot find the problem. I thought they were going to change out the entire harness earlier but they didn't, but now have decided to do so. Now, I've been without my bike now for 3 weeks and it looks like I may be without it for another 2 weeks at least. I'm getting tired of waiting on it. The people I work with have told me to demand a loaner bike or yet, give me another one. I'm a fairly patient person and have dealt with this dealer before and like them. But my question to you fellow members who have dealt with bike dealers before is: How long should I wait before I start squawking and raising cane about getting my bike back? I got about a months riding out of it before the radio and CB broke. My bike was my primary transportation to and from work. Needless to say I'm getting a little frustrated and so is the shop trying to fix it. They also have another 08 RSV in the shop with the same problem. When they figure out what's wrong with mine, they can fix the other one too. Any advice from you all will be appreciated. Thanks, Glenn
  11. I finally checked my CB antenna out this weekend and discovered I had just as much power going towards the radio as I did the antenna. No wonder it didn't work real well. Anyway I checked the radio with a good antenna on the truck and found about 2.5 watts output. So I am looking for a good place to buy another replacement for the bike. Does anyone have good information where to find a replacement? Probably will go with a Firestick.....
  12. When I bought my 83 Venture, the previous owner had (butchered) installed a BOAT radio/cassette in the left glove box area. I suppose he thought it was a good idea at the time. I am very seriously considering pulling out his installation and going with a later technology - such as an MP3 player accessed from a handlebar position... with an amplifier mounted out of sight somewhere. So I come to y'all ---- Anyone have a recommendation on a MP3 player that can be used in a motorcycle application?? Weather issues to consider? Some/any MP3 players have radio AM/FM built in? [note: some of my friends ride their Harlies while using an MP3 player in their vest with noise-blocking ear-buds... but some states prohibit headphones and other types of ear-passage-obstruction so I lean away from that right now.] Any recommendations on an decent amplifier??? My speakers are the 4-ohm 100W variety one on each channel up front on the Venture. How about some kind of an audio panel or passive mixer/switcher to be able to also hear the CB radio audio? Those available? I have little... actually no experience in what it would take to make music heard over the noise as I cruise. Any and all ideas are very welcome!! Thanks!
  13. Would anyone have an amp in non working condition laying around,I've traced some problems down to the wiring harness on the smaller of the 2 multi-pin connectors that the radio plugs into.I think my audio and cb will work fine if I replace that harness. Arthur
  14. my 84 venture did not come with original stereo, but i recently bought one but it did not come with the wiring harness to hook up the speakers and power. can someone tell me where to get one or show me what wires do what? the plug coming off the amp has 9 contacts in a 4-1-4 pattern. this radio is from an 83. i have checked the yamaha parts fiche and the radios are the same for both. thanks
  15. Has anyone "dug deep enough" into the radio on 2nd gens to determine if you can auto program all eighteen FM radio presets without encountering "duplication"? I've tried a couple of different sequences of selecting Band 1, Band 2 and Band 3, and going through the a/b/c/ automatic channel writing steps......but I keep getting some of the same stations appearing on more than one band. Suggestions? (Please don't say "buy a satellite rig" :-)
  16. I hope some of you can help me pinpoint a problem I have with my audio system on my Venture. On a long ride to Yosemite while listening to the radio suddenly the sound would fade away when I was increasing speed and as soon I would let go of the throttle it would return. This problem has since continued. So when I take off it drops the sound as I go through the gears, once I am at cruising speed it is fine since I do not move the trottle much. ****ting down does not affect it. Interesting enough it does not happen to the speakers - only to my headsets. I have tried two different headsets and both have same issue so I assume that it is not the headsets. Also it does it in aux (GPS) and radio. Have not tried the cassette yet. Anyway, any idea what the issue is and how it can be fixed. Appreciate it. Thanks.
  17. The antenna on my 89 VR will not tighten down all the way! When it starts to get snug it feels like it lets go! I think I would like to change to a 2 antenna set up ( looks mostly). I've also noticed my CB and Radio stations aren't coming in as good any more. Any suggestions?
  18. If my bike sets for over a 24 hour period, the memory presets are erased. Does anyone know why this would happen? The radio works just fine and I can reset the memory presets. Thanks ahead for any input.
