  1. I'm planning a trip this summer about 6 -7000 km, and with motels averaging $100/night, I think it will be cheaper to overnight at camp grounds ($23-$35/night). Now my question is; what would be a good tent to get, something quick to set up and tear down. And being 6'2" not to cramped. Thanks for any suggetions. Markus
  2. This may not be the place for this question, but I would like to know if you think the RSTD I have listed in the classified is overpriced (before I relist it on eBay). NADA (for what that's worth) shows a 2005 RSTD at $6830 for average retail. I apologize if this is the wrong place for this question, but I have learned a lot about my bike on this forum and do respect your opinions. Thanks. Mine is the 2005 one pictured in front of the Cypress Swamp sign on the Natchez Trace. Again, if this is inappropriate question on the forum, (moderators) just delete.
  3. Hi all, New to this forum and have a question. I have a couple of friends that have Ventures. I am currently looking at one to add to my stable but have a question: It's an 89 with 65,000 miles. I know that prior maintenance and the way the bike has been treated plays a role in the whole scenario, but my question is: Is 65K miles a lot for a Venture ? What is the miles life span for these bikes? What should my main concern be with a Venture with 65K on it ? Thanks in advance for helping me out. Bill:fingers-crossed-emo
  4. Curious about this letter that was received for my stepson about his layoff and would like to know if anyone who is employed at FMC would know the answer. He received a letter stating that since he is considered a part time and not yet fully hired on as full time but still gets the benifits and now is laid off and drawing unemployment from FMC the letter has offered him a position in either Chiago or Kentucky and has to fill out this form and send it back certified. The question is if he doesn't fill out this form and don't send it in will he lose his unemployment and possiably his chance for rehire? Does anyone from FMC know? Thanks Joe
  5. I have a chance to pick up a 2006 Little Guy 5 wide trailer for a steal from a dealer, he just can't sell it he has had it since it was new. My question is it too big for my 99 Venture? It pulls ok and I can see around it fairly well but it is tall. http://www.golittleguy.com/teardrops/models/5-wide-platform/
  6. I have a question for the masses, as I know we have a greatly diversified group of folks here. The new house that Lonna and I are moving into, has in the past been burglarized and they stole copper wire and such. We are going to install an alarm system as the owners of whom we are going to purchase it from in a couple of years, have agreed to split the install cost in half with us. We checked into ADT, and I guess they think their stuff and product is gold. Price was not what I would have thought and they were very pushy to have it installed immediately. There also was a quote from FrontPoint security, lots of the bells and whistles like ADT, but more reasonably priced. My question for y'all is, have any of you dealt with this FrontPoint and or other security companies, and what insight can you pass on to me about the industry for those of you in the know?
  7. Ok I have always wondered if I made the best choice when I bought my Venture. My Harley friends are pretty adamant on the superiority of the Harley experience. So I have always had this nagging question. Would I have been happier with a Harly Ultra Glide Classic or some such thing? Do the Harleys really handle much better at parking lot speeds? For sure more accessories are available for Harleys. And the Harley is fuel injected. Well yesterday I spent some time riding an Ultra Classic and all I can say is WOW. There is no way I would trade my Venture for a Harley. I like the handling on my Venture better than the Harley at any speed. So the question for me has been asked and answered. The Venture was and still is my best choice. Mike
  8. Those of you that have had to replace your clutch spring, did you double up on the springs? I'm thinking about giving Skydoc 17 some business, but I have another option that I think will hold me over for a while longer. Let me explain. Several years ago I had the clutch in my Vmax start to slip. Not knowing what I know now, I put all new friction discs and a new oem diaphram spring in and corrected the problem. I still have those discs, which by the way weren't worn at all, and the old spring. My question is this, If you were me would you simply double up that spring with the one now in my RSV and ride a while longer with a new gasket, or go ahead and purchase the deal that Earl has? I have the utmost confidence in Harry's product but, I already have these parts laying around. What would you do?
  9. i am a new supporting member and would like to ask a question on tec forum and have no clue how to go about doing it could anyone help thanks Dave
  10. On Monday my 19 year old daughter mentioned her jaw had felt like it was catching, kind of sticking in place a couple times during the day. I checked her over and found no swelling or anything odd. I told her to quit distending her jaw when she eats, (you have never seen her eat, I call her Gator), and we just laughed it off. On Tuesday afternoon she sent me a message from her work that her jaw had locked shut and she couldn't open it. Five minutes later she sent another message that it had unlocked and was better. I started to make plans to get her into the Doc the next day. I'm thinking signs of a Tentanus infection, lock jaw, at this point. Not cool. At ten last night she sent another message that it had locked again and she hurt real bad and she could feel her teeth grinding. I geared up and headed out to where she worked. When I got there she looked like a pissed off badger. Cute, but not funny. Told her to grab her stuff and we where headed to the emergency room. Her boss rolled in and told me she still had a couple hours left on her shift. My question to him was "do you want to go with us, or do you want to get out my way?" He backed off. I'll deal with that twit later. BUT......good news was it was not Tenanus. It was something I'd never heard of. This TMJ Syndrome. Problem where the joints on the jaw bone attaches to the skull, either caused by degeneration of the joints, not likely in a 19 year old, or from a past injury. Well we pretty much nailed down what that injury was. I've done my research and we are dealing with the care of it now. My question is has anyone dealt with this syndrome over a period of time and what might we expect? Just curious. Mike
  11. I've finally got around to installing a Stebel horn...and have a question about the air intake. I understand the logic behind installing the hose to provide "clean/clear" air to to the compressor. Since I've mounted the horn in the factory default horn location using Carbon_Ones mounting bracket, and the air intake clips into the horn is downward facing, couldn't I cut a small piece of a "horse hair" AC filter and insert that into the air intake opening, thereby eliminating the black plastic fitting and the unsightly hose option??? Seems like that would be an easy solution? Thoughts?
  12. IT is starting to drive me nuts. What are people talking about when they say IT So the question is,,,,what is IT?????
  13. Picked up a Time-Out trailer from Tupelo over the weekend. LED lights, 5pin round connector. Question to U Hannigan Trikers---- How did you route the wiring from the connections under the seat to the trailer hitch??
  14. Trying "the GPS question" a diff way: Which is the least expensive Garmin(refurb Ok) GPS that supports MP3 and phone calls(via bluetooth) Was thinking of opening my Nuvi265WT and adding a mic in and audio out so I could then use buddyrich cable. But then how to get an external MP3 player attached as well and will a phone call mute the MP3? (don't think so) Can't afford ZUMO sp!ke
  15. Just got around to checking out the intercom on my 08 rsv. I'm using the same headsets I used on my Wing. The radio works fine and the CB is OK, the problem is the IC only works when the CB is on. Is this normal? I hope not. Jim
  16. I like using the centerstand on my 86' Venture. When packing/unpacking the trailer/bike combo it's very handy. Of course, getting the bike on the stand is beastly but I'm a strong guy and am well rehearsed even fully laden. Anyway..... About a month ago I was putting it up on the stand and the foot pushing part just bent. My question is how do I get the centerstand off? I plan on welding a big old, some sort of repair. Thanks in advance. Great forum!
  17. Question 1) I'm needing 1 Enricher/Choke for my MK2 and ebay has some but they came off an MK1. Are they the same and is $25.oo a reasonable price. Question 2) The outside tip broke off on mine (I purchased the VR that way). I was thinking of drilling a small hole and putting a brass screw so the choke would pull it out. Is that something that would be recommended?
  18. My last two oil changes I noticed that when I use the sight glass as a gauge for how much oil I've added, I can only get three quarts in and it's up to to the Maximum line. And yes, I've checked the level of the garage floor and I'm using a Carbon One Lift adapter. So the question is, is this normal? Is the a second drain plug I didn't read about? Have I been running my bike low on oil all summer? Thanks
  19. With a good amount of folks with electrician or electrical backgrounds thought I would post this and see what you guys think. 1st I will say the response I was given I think is a bunch of b.s. and just a gimmick to get you to buy a new charger unneccesarily. I currently have an LG ENV3 and I was looking at the LG Revolution. I asked the rep about the car charger I have will work with this smartphone. She removed the cover and the ports were the same so in my mind it should work. She said no as the car charger I have doesn't produce enough juice to charge the battery. She made some comment about it might even cause premature battery wear. Every single smart phone review that I have read no matter which one it is, all say smartphone battery life is bad, so again don't really see how I am at a disadvantage here. So I also posted this question on the verizon wireless facebook page and here is one response I got "Because the charger isn't strong enough to charge a smartphone. All chargers go up to a certain wattage, and a smartphone takes a higher wattage." So to my question is what is your take on the wattage comment?
  20. I PM'ed Condor about a spark related issue and I posed the question to him as to why it is necessary to have a resistor sparkplug cap and a resistor sparkplug. Answer me this question, aren't resistor plugs primarily used to supress electric pulses from interfering with a radio? Yes ,Ventures do have a radio, but isn't the primary reason for owning a motorcycle to ride it and not listen to the c@#p on a radio. Any comments, suggestions, and/or helpful advice? Condor mentioned that he thought that VGoose had posted on this subject at one time. Soooo..... Thanks all
  21. What to folks do about a Trailer Jack when on a trip...I guess is I take the plug kit and a mini compressor, I would not need any jack? Any thoughts....Leaving for South Dakota on the 3rd.... Long Tall:smile5:
  22. Will a left side electronics enclosure (cassette, intercom, etc.) from an '84 fit a '91? TIA...
  23. so I am illiterate when it comes to loading pics so I will try to explain my question. Tore down the bike for 2nd gear and am putting her back together but I have come to a problem that I nees assisstance with, The cables that open and close the flaps in the carbs were replaced by me but I am unsure which cable goes in which hole on the carb cluster? The two short cables that come out of the plastic box (Where the cruise cable goes into) and then go to the top of the carb cluster into two holes that hold the cable which one goes where? I have a great pic of the question but its stuck in my email.. Any help would be appreciated. Mike:225:
  24. I have finished going through all of the posts for the generation 2 Venture. I have a 2008 model. From my readings and to keep from reopening some threads that have been unused for a while, here are my questions: 1. Reference to tires. On my previous bike, 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 classic LT, it came with Dunlop tires. The wear rate on them sucked. I was only getting about 8000 miles or so out of a set. Switched to metzlers ME 880 and was well into my second year of riding on the same tires before I traded it for my current bike. Having read the threads here, I see some have had issues with the Metzlers. I did not on previous bike and current bike has a set of metzler's ME 880's on it. My question. Is there any issues with the tires? I run them on 40 lbs air in the front....42 in the rear. 2. I know I have screwed up my stereo system. The head unit works, but I have no sound. All fuses are fine. My question. Has anyone dealt with Pinwall Cycle Parts? The have a used stereo I can get to replace my current unit. I am aware that my current system is under warranty. However, don't feel like waiting through a long process for them to get around to replacing the unit. My only concern is their no exchange policy. 3. Another audio question. What year's of the bike use the same audio system? From looking at Pinwall's selection, they all basically seem to be the same size, ect....is there any difference between say a 1999 model and 2008 model stereo? That's all for now. Thanks!
  25. Looking around for a new tach and that old question pops up again.. Single Fire Ignition or Dual Fire Ignition on our bikes? I promise to write it down this time.. I did a search and couldn't find it in previous posts.. (a lot of posts about tachs) Thanks in advance.
