  1. Can anyone direct me to the location of the fuel pump relay on and '04 Venture? I can wire direct and the pump runs fine but get no power when I turn the key to the "ON" position. Anyone else had similar problems? Solutions? Thanks, Chief
  2. Hey Guys. I have 47K on my 2000 RSV. Was wondering if anyone had a fuel pump fail and, at 9.5 years old, how long I could expect mine to last. I don't have any issues yet, but was thinking about picking up a lightly used pump from a newer, low mileage bike and stowing it (along with a spare coil and maybe ignition switch, Ha!) for some breakdown insurance when I take long trips. Any histories/war stories on nuisance/premature pump failures on 2nd Gens? Thanks.
  3. Anybody have this ,my fuel pump used to click when I turned on key. Now it doesnt or maybe clicks 1 or 2 times. Cleaned all connections battery is fully charged and bike starts instantly and runs PERFECT. I`m wondering if there is going to be a problem down the line?? no hesitation and will run all day at 70 -80 mph with power to spare. when bike is idling can feel pulses when I hold hand on pump. any input greatly appreciated JB. Just changed stator last week its putting out 14 volts at 3000 rpm. thanks to all that gave advice on that problem JB
  4. Well, my '87 VR is back on the road. BUT one odd thing. I hear a tick from the water pump. It's almost a knock that sounds like if you took a handle of a screwdriver and tapped it against the engine. Can only hear it when on the right side of the bike. It's not the clutch basket rattle that high mileage units can develope. I used my mechanics stethoscope to confirm that it's most certainly is the water-pump. And pulling the clutch lever does not change the sound.. ALL parts in the pump are new including the impellar but not the plastic gear. As it looked to be fine. Yes, Carbs are sync'd. REMEMBER I have not had this on the road for over 2 years. So my memory of how it should sound is rather foggy. It makes this noise the same , cold or hot. I have an oil pressure gauge on the bike...pressure is fine. The sound is there and varies directly w/engine speed. I suspect it could be the pin for the plastic gear on the impellar shaft rocking due to the Ventures naturally uneven firing. BUT I am grasping at straws here. P.S. First time I did the water pump seals on this bike was 20 years ago. SO this is the second time. I even have the Yamaha tool to drive the mechanical seal in correctly. So I really do everything "by the book" Anyone have a firm possibility of the noise source before I disassemble. Or would I be wasting my time taking it apart again for just a noise. Anyone with a reply who has experienced this and if they fixed it or not would be appreciated ..Oh yes, I do see some other threads with info on this. And since syncing the carbs did not change this noise.....................help...
  5. Now i know someone posted this before but, you know how it works, i can never find things when i need them so please bear with me. Does anyone know who makes an air pump with a gauge to be used on the shocks. I need it to be small enough to carry with me. i would like to try different pressures while i'm on the road to find the best combination. Thanks everyone and have a safe summer

    DC Power outlet

Where is the best location for a DC power outlet on the 1st Gen? Does the scoot generate enough power to run shch equipment as an air pump or other simple electrical devices? Would a power converter work on it to produce 110V?
  7. Has anyone added an air pump to the 2nd gen yet? If so what brand of pump and where did you locate it? Thanks in advance.
  8. OK, I've only been back riding for a half of a year. Back when I was young, Bike riders that wanted a CB radio on their bike were installing "standard issue trucker type" CB radios on their bikes. I don't know if this is still the case or not. I've seen a few handlebar mounted walkie-talkie lookin' things, but I really haven't had the chance to look at any more modern CB installations. I feel quite confident that the CB equipment I currently have (Galaxy 10-meter Ham converted to CB, 500 watt linear, Texas Star modulator) will not fit on my 1st gen and even if it did, there's no way that the bike could ever pump out enough electricity to power this stuff. My preference for a bike CB would be a Cobra 25 LTD or a Uniden PC66 (either of them being equipped with 50-watt hot finals and a Conex board) but I have no idea if installing either of these type radios is possible. Anyone care to bring me up to speed on what my best options would be for a CB installation on an '84 VR?
  9. After rebuilding the #2 carb cause it was dumping fuel out the overflow got the bike running and everything adjusted went to go for a test ride and less then a 1/2 mile from the garage it died like it ran out of gas got it back home and checked the fuel pump relay and power to the relay and checked resistance of the #2 coil little higher than the tolarance, the pump runs for the start up 5 seconds but not much fuel comes out, maybe 5 cc at the most, How much fuel should it be pushing? enough to get pressure to the carbs?
  10. I filled up with gas and jumped on the freeway. 15 miles later exited to a major street and just cruised along in the 88 degree sunshine. then my 07 RSV (55k miles) began to sputter. checked the petcock, it's in the down position. coasted to the side and began diagnosis.... pulled the seat, tank side covers. located the fuel lines.pulled the line off the carbs and turned the key. hmmm fuel pump non functional until i tapped on it several times... YES- i tapped! replace tank, connect fuel lines and fire it up. let it idle while putting everything back together. cruised the remaining 40 miles w/o incident..... anyone else had fuel pump problems?????
  11. Howdy. I just bought an 06 RSV, 5000 miles. Got in December so I was unable to test ride. Took it on it's first ride this season and it started and idled just fine, cruised around town 30mph fine. But when we went down the highway, and got about 45 or so, she wasn't feeling well. The bike sputtered, lost power, and could barley move itself under power. I tried pulling the choke in/out,had no effect. While going down the road and letting off throttle, it would stall again. I drained old gas, added sea-foam/new gas to tank. Tried again, same result. The other question I had was with the fuel pump. I noticed a few weeks ago while I was playin with the bike in the garage as soon as I turned the key on, I heard something running under the cover below the battery, that sounded like a little air compressor. Since I've tried to ride today, I haven't heard that at all. Should I hear the pump run each time you turn the key on? I plan on changing fuel filter anyway, but wasn't sure if my pump is junk. It always starts and idles great, so I was thinking either the filter or pump was the issue, or the mains on a carb or two is gummed. Thanks in advance for any ideas.... Chad
  12. Well the weather was beautiful here in NC today so after doing a bunch of yard work I thought I deserved to take a ride. After about 2 miles I started smelling this very strong gas smell so I pulled over and cut the engins off to see what the problem was. Lo and behold I crawled off and there under the bike was a puddle of gas. No being in the mmod to burn my great little first gen up I let it set for a bit to cool off and headed back home. Again I smelled the gas even stronger now and the bike wasn't running up to it's usual great self. When I got hom I left it outside to let any gas that might still be comeing from where ever it was coming from and for it to cool off before I pulled it into the garage. I was hoping this would eb a really simple find for me like a pin hole in the gas line from the fuel pump up but can life ever be that simple? Well not for me anyway. I pushed it in the garage and put the better halfs cager out side and put it up on the jack so i could get a better look at the situation. I turned the key on and the fuel pump strated pumping but just like always only 2 or 3 clicks and it quit...Shucks foiled again. So I took all the side covers off, the seat off, and the 2 little plastic pieces cover pieces so I could hopefully see where the gas was coming from. I started the ole girl up and here comes the gas but I can't see where it is coming from exactly. It is leaking on top of the rear shock and running down from there but I can't see where it is coming from. Can anyoone give ma any help on what I can to to fix this or if you even know what I am talking about? I haven't had a lick of trouble with this bike since I got it 5 years ago so I guees it's about my time but not being familiar with the mechanics of the bike I am at a loss. I searched the site before I posted this problem in hope of not having to bother any of the tech guru's but didn't find any related threads...they're probably out there I just couldn't find one...So to sum it up in one word....HELP!!!!!! I am going to try and attach pictures of where I am talking about so that it may help you to tell me what I need to do to fix it or what my problem might be.Thanks in advance for any help anyone might be able to give me.
  13. Came home today to one foot of water in my basement..what a mess..Tools, bows, electrical appliances, pictures, things that belonged to my mother before she passed away 2 years ago, spare bed, Christmas decorations, furniture, leather goods, hunting equptment, pool table, etc, etc, etc....the list goes on..Got the water pumped out..float stuck on sump pump..Dont know where to begin..carpet soaked..One step foward..two steps backward...its gonna be a long weekend.....relit water tank...washer working..gas dryer not working, furnace working..sump pump running every 20 seconds. Hope its still working in the morning... Just needed to vent...cleanup begins tomorrow...
  14. take a look at this - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-VENTURE-ROYALE-1300cc-Beautiful_W0QQitemZ140298791821QQihZ004QQcategoryZ6718QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Looks like this bike has an extra tank mounted on a trailer hitch? Anybody ever seen anything like this? Would the fuel pump be able to draw from that tank?
  15. I found that the fuel line that goes from the fuel pump to the carbs. was crushed by the clip that holds the line back by the fuel pump when I was changing out the fuel filter. I tried to trace where this line goes, and followed it up the frame and then it disappeared under the battery box (which I have removed) and could not find the end of it. I would like to replace this line but can't figure where the other end is. Has anyone replaced this line? What's the trick to getting to it short of removing the engine? Why do they make this so hard?!?! I would be greatful for Any help or thoughts on this subject! Earl
  16. So cold here that I think my garage door is swearing at me in the morning! I've had this issue with the coolant leak on my 89 VR and it leaked again:bang head:, this time I found 2 leak points first 1 was at the drain and the other is at the base of the plastic elbow going into water pump. Hopefully both easily fixed( in warmer weather)! We'll see soon enough!!!!!! Everyone stay warm and be very careful outside:snow:
  17. What is the max. air in thr rear shock? I read some where on hear 7lb. max in the frunt. I was going to buy a Suspension pump & was wondering how big I needed? Any thoughts on what is a good air pump? I have been looking at Progressive.
  18. New to this bike. Just acquired. Been setting for 6 months. Bike won't start normally. Will start and run briefly with starting fluid in carb intakes. Doesn't have 12v. to fuel pump with key in "on" position. Don't have owner's manual, shop manual, etc....nothing to work with. Any troubleshooting tips appreciated. Any leads on wiring diagrams. Location of fuel pump fuze, etc. would be very helpful. tks
  19. My fathers 83 venture is fouling the right rear sparkplug and running poorly.. he thinks its the fuel pump.. I think he's nuts but nevertheless he wants a new one.. anybody got an Idea where one can be had?
  20. Got one day off this week and hope to get to look at class this evening. Hoping for quick fix instead of pulling and taking to Skid. I'll let him work on it later like winter with fire in stove!!! On the 85's you have to pull the panel to get to the things it doesn't just open up like the l;ater models. I'm getting E-2 error on it. The pump will pump but don't air up anything. Where do I look first?? Around the pump? Pull trunk and cover? Don't have enough time to do it this week if I don't find problem quickly. Got to do work thing again at 4 Sun morning. Still got to change out rear tire. I let it get down to no thread at all. Not going to ride anymore on that.Gotta find time to change that. Already got tire on extra rim ready to go. Would like to ride a little this fall but staying tooo busy!!! If I were retired i could start doing something with the few 1st gen parts I got. Sorry for the book but where do I look to get air to work so I can ride?? Not going to ride it on empty shock. I know how hard those things are to change!!
  21. Well I went and busted my 0-30PSi air pump and have since bought a 0-60PSi to replace it. I guess I pushed the 0-30PSi a little to far! Has anyone ever seen replacement gauges for those pumps anywhere? I contacted Progressive and they said that they do not supply parts. The Gauge has a weird thread on it so its possible that its made just to fit that pump....hard to say. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Keith
  22. Hi everyone! I'm fixing up an 05' tour deluxe I just bought but it has some serious issues that I could use some advice on. #1 As you can see from the pic it has been laid down pretty bad and the right side has sustained a lot of damage. I have both cowlings on order and the vacuum pump was smashed so its comming also. I took off both saddle bags because the right one is so bad it can't be fixed. I don't have the $$$$ bling to buy a new one this year so I am trying to decide if i should go with some leather bags for now or just leave them off altogether for a while. (I think it needs something) Do you guys have a line on any used stock bags? My nephew works at a dealership a few hours away so I get screaming good deals on OEM stuff if I order through him but they evidently don't sell just the tub. (they sell every other part separately of course) #2 As mentioned above the vacuum pump is on order and I have been tooling around town without it but the bike runs like crap above 3rd gear. Does the pump missing have any connection to pour performance (I assumed it is just for the cruise control)? Symptoms are: 1st and 2nd seem fine but start getting a little blubbery in 3rd but when you get into 4th gear and 5th it won't accelerate well and sounds like it is missing or completely bogging out. I pulled the carbs and went through each bowl trying to make sure there wasn' a bunch of crapolla in there but they weren't that bad. Still runs bad. I should have the vacuum pump next week and I figure if it is still crapping out after I get it back together then it will have to make a trip to the dealer. Any help on either question would be appreciated.

    Bad fuel pump?

My 86 Venture Royale has 32000 miles and has been running excellent, but now it won't run at all except at a fast idle and that with the choke full on. Is this a bad fuel pump symptom? Thanks for any advice.
  24. The last two times I rode the bike Ive been getting a knock from the engine. Like a tap tap tap sound that goes away or so it seams when I rev it up but at idle it sounds like some thing wants to come through the water pump cover. I wanted to make sure it wasnt something else so I changed the oil back to the amsoil that I usually use. I used Spectro the last time and it had never been there before. Well the knock is still there and It concerns me so much that I wont ride it that way. Anybody have any ideas? Should I pull off the cover and last but not least is this something that is common. I been here quite a while and havent seen any threads on this but maybe I wasnt looking. I did do a search but frankly the search here is not the best
  25. how long should a fuel pump run if it disconnected from the carb hose thanks lee
