1. Has anybody had any experience putting some brand of pull backs for the handlebars on a 2006 RSTD? I would like to bring my handlebars back just a tad to keep from having to stretch my arms out. Not bad, but a lil uncomfortable. Just was wanting some reccommadations from anybody who has done something similiar. Thanks, Jerry
2. When people have talked about the low end power on these 1200 motors, I felt like mine seemed to have more power (torque) than most. Mine at 25mph in 5th gear on flat ground would pull surprisingly strong compared to what other described about having to keep their bike above 3,000 rpm's. I also felt like at about 6,500 rpm's that the power was starting to taper off in that it was not pulling as hard. I know this bike pretty well as I have put 100,000 miles on it since I have had it for 13 years. I have patched the diaphragms a couple of times and it did seem to make it run a little better. With the new diaphragms, it is just opposite. Now, it feels a bit less torquey at low rpm's, but as I go over 3,000 rpm's in 1st gear at wide open throttle it now is almost scarey how quick it will pull to 8,000 rpm's. It now seems like just a few seconds in 1st and 2nd to 70 mph or more. I am wondering if I will get better gas mileage than before as I was getting from about 38 to 43, according to the road and my speeds. Now, if I am going to get anywhere near that good I am going to have to crank her down some as I am now catching myself looking for a place to crank it on. It's almost addictive how much pull it has as it is winding up and at 8,000 rpm's it is still pulling hard. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this change with new diaphragms? RandyA
3. Memorial day weekend I rode home from Chimney Rock, NC to Albany, Ga in the rain. There were a few times I had to pull off the road it was raining so hard. When I got home there wasn't a spot on my bike that didn't have the gray road film on it. Yesterday I put my bike on the lift, removed seats, removed the saddle bags and I put a spit shine on the bike like you wouldn't believe. I cleaned everything including the pumpkin on the rear end. I was going to pull in Freebirds on maintenance day with a shiney bike but now it looks like I will pull in with gray road film all over the bike again. I should have know that if I wash and wax my bike it rains.
4. Good afternoon. I am in a frenzy. This question is about my 88 VR. I just did the Barnett upgrade of my clutch and it went so smoothly I was figuring I did something wrong. Well apparently something is wrong cause now I can't pull the clutch lever. I followed the steps from HDHTR in the tech guide to the letter and even took the old plates apart one by one and laid them off to the side in the order I took them out. After removing the boss wire and taking out the last friction plate and steel plate I inspected the basket for burrs and it was in good shape so I began reassembly. Put in the first friction plate, the 16321, and then the first steel plate and then installed the boss wire, and proceeded to install the plate in alternating order, friction, steel, friction, until I was out of new friction plates and all the steel plates had been used up too coating each plate in oil as I went. After installing the Barnett conversion and torqueing the bolts to 8 ft lbs I tried to pull in the clutch lever and I can not pull it in. There is space between the Barnett and the last friction plate I installed and I can move the plates in and out by hand. When I torqued the bolts I had to hold the Barnett to keep it from spinning. It acts as if teh clutch is disengaged but the lever isn't pull in. So I put it all back together and jacked it up with my HF jack and started the motor and put it into gear and there was nothing, like I said as if the clutch lever was pulled in. The reason I did this conversion is that when I went for a ride weekend before last the clutch started slipping in the upper gears so I wanted to get it replaced before it got too bad. I also might add that I replaced all of the bleeder valves with speed bleeders and purged all of the lines. I thought maybe the clutch has an air blockage causing the slave cylinder to be activeated so I took the speed bleeder completely out hoping it would relieve the pressure but that didn't work either. So now I am looking for any and all help I can get. Do I need to replace the clutch slave cylinder now and if so I haven't been able to find the procedure for doing that in my seaches. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I really don't want to have to take it to the stealer to find the problem.
5. Larry, just wanted to show off your product for everyone to see "In Action" Worked great, very pleased. Well made, I can't say enough good things about it. Any of you guys thinking about this piece of equipment, you should go ahead and pull the trigger. The 2nd Gen on a lift is a scarey, wobbly experience. Put that big heavy thing on this adapter and she's rock solid.
6. Ok so, I want to change my front wheel bearings as I think its time. I can get new bearings no prob. I can press in the new bearings no prob. My question is how does the home garage weekend mechanic pull the old bearings out ? I see fancy [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArFC3xPHhGA]tools [/ame]sets advertised to do such jobs, but I just don't have the budget for that, nor would I use it often enough to justify even if I did. I have looked for tool rental places but no motorcycle tools appear to be offered. Sure, I could pay someone to do it for me but that's no fun. There must be some trickery I can use. Lay it on me folks. Thanks, Brian H.
7. Ok I can't find it.... I am pulling my wheels to have the tires replaced. I think it was this site I saw a very good post with pics on how to pull the rear whhel and grease the rear berings. Any body know where it is? Thanks SJ
8. I found this little homemade trailer on E-bay, but don't want to bid on it if it is too heavy to pull. It was designed to be pulled by a goldwing 1500, so I feel fairly safe. Item # 320355058863
9. Is there anyway to reduce the tension in the clutch lever making it easier to pull? I'm starting to get arthritis in the hand and it's making it more difficult. Can't give up those long trips.
10. My pull behind trailer is now for sale separately. Please see the classifieds.
11. I have been riding for about a month on my first bike, an 83 Venture, and have had more problems than I thought I would,.... The most recent is this throttle problem. I was driving home when all of a sudden my throttle started just revving itself. When I don't pull at all, it idles normally, but when I pull it back, even the tiniest amount, it just starts going up and up and up. As you can imagine, my last few blocks home were exciting. Luckily, not pulling at all it does what it's supposed to do, and the clutch is working fine,.. If it wasn't for those two thing I probably would have taken a quick trip into something solid, and heavy,.... perhaps a car,.... Anyways, as I said, I'm new to motorcycle, so any and all details would be appreciated,.. ~Tobias P.S. I'm also poor, and want to do this myself, as opposed to a shop,.... Or if anyone is in Austin, TX, and wants dinner, and to help a new rider, that'd be even better!!! And there are a couple of other small problems, like the turn signals working sometimes and not others, that I could use some help on,... P.P.S. This is my only form of transportation & way to work, so the sooner I can get it running good enough, the better. Thanks! ~Tobias
12. Can anyone out there tell me what is the number of the bulb behind the right or tachometer section on the early first gen? It seems mine burned out and can only see half of my dash insruments at night now. I can get it when I pull it apart but would like to buy it first. BTW can that area be accessed by just removing the wind screen or do I need to remove the entire fairing? (again)
13. Trying to pull the computer module so I can re-solder it. Thought there was a tech article on how and what to solder??? Can't find it! Anybody???
14. Ok guys..whats up? after your calls to taters, shes laughing her butt off. :rotfl:You guys are up to no good.. She lied to you..I'm a bad sport...don't like practical jokes. I'd never pull a practical joke on anyone:whistling: You all need to stop this tom foolery now:think:... whhaaaaatts upppp?
15. Lord, please forgive me for saying that but as a Georgia Dawg I have to pull for the SEC.
16. I have changed quite a few rear driveshafts on 1st Gens and have never had one drop as it did today. When I pulled it there was a big clunk! Kind of dry!! It fell completely down and I'm having a time geting it back in.Always kept mine lubed good and if you are carefull you just pull it and slide it back in. Not this time. I fought it for about a hour and left it. How do you put it back. I pulled the rubber boot back but couldn't get to it. Is this the way to do it and I just need to pull boot completly off??
17. does anyone own a bunkhouse camper they pull with there RSV ? im looking at one on ebay and didnt know if the rsv was big enough to pull it ok with out any problems. thanks for any feedback. Ron
18. I have the 4 Way Flashers on my 06 Venture and would like to know the electrical load limit on this set-up. A LEO friend of mine gave me 4 mini-amber strobes and I'd like to tie these into the 4 Way Flasher wiring. The mini-strobes pull .5 amps each for a total of 2 amps. If I can do this I won't have to install a separate switch just for the mini-strobes.
19. One of the many winter projects I have is to fix (Hopefully!) my radio. The Mem light is on constantly, and you can't set any stations. I have to pull the radio apart to see what's up, and to clean it. Any words of wisdom before I start???
20. I'm looking to order a set of speed bleeders for my 2nd Gen. Is the clutch bleed screw the same size as the brake bleed screws? And are the brake bleed screws M8X1.25"? I could, I suppose, pull them and compare them but I would like to only have to pull them once...this winter:)
21. OK I admit I’m a bit lazy. The fork seals were replaced a few months ago including (I’m assuming) new oil, now I’m installing progressive springs. Do I need to drain the fork oil since it’s still almost new or can I just pull out the old springs and put in the new? Thanks, Al PS how do you get the old spring out, with a coat hanger or something?
22. I have a 89 Venture Royale, 86,000 miles on her. Just bought it 3 weeks ago. I do not have a manual as of yet. Would like to change the wires due to the fact that one of them has electrical tape around the plug. Do I need to pull the faring off to do this. It also looks like I have to pull the seat to get to the rear plugs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
23. I need some help, I was given a air compressor that had a burnt motor, I put a new 5hp motor on it, but when it would hit 35lbs in the tank, the back pressure would stop the motor,( probably what smoked the original motor) so I pull the head off of the pump, the head gasket is blown, all of the reed valves look good, I changed it out but same thing going on. so next I pull the check valve from the tank, ok, a small peice of junk is stuck in the valve, I clean it up, put all back together, thinking to my self that I now have a great Free compresser.... but nooooooo.... same thing happening:confused24: I have no clue what to check next, there is not much to these things, so I am at a loss... any Ideas?? Thanks!! PS... Free Air to any one that can help me out and get it working!! Kreg
24. I've noticed that my front brake lever kind of "catches" as you pull on it, not a smooth pull. Seems to be due to it rubbing on the actuator/plunger in the master cylinder and not having lubrication there. It appears that there is a slight depression or cupping in the actuator where the lever makes contact. I sprayed some dry lube on it and it smoothed out for a couple of days but is back to catching in increments again. Is this normal and what do you guys use to lubricate that contact point?
25. I came to work to night and when I got here the tail lights were not working, I checked the bulbs (OK), looked in the online manual and haven't found any help there. Will look for the fuse to see if it is a lone fuse. Brake lites work. Any ideas? On the starter, it starts great sometimes, then about every 2 or 3 times it will pull the amps down to about 5, then hesitate, then crank like a new one. Cleaned the batt cables, and tested it (OK). This happens cold or hot?!?!?!?!?!? Any ideas? Thankx, Gary C
