  1. Two friends were always trying to out-do the other in every thing they did. The first said, "I'll bet I can post on the forum and get more replies than you." The second accepted the challenge. 30 minutes later the first said, "Ha, 25 replies already, how are you doing?" The second answered, "128 and climbing fast." "How can that be? My post commented on the economy, the government, religion and all my pets. How could you possibly get more replies?" "I put a misspelled word in the title!"

    Map

I'm not sure where to post this. How do you get the little map at the end of the posts (of where you've been?) Thanks in advance
  3. STAR Touring annual STAR Days is in Madison, WI next week. Just wondering who from VR forums is going. Three of us from SC STAR chapters are going, headed out Saturday. About 1000 miles each way. If it ain't RAINING, we will HEAD up through Clemson, Hwy 28 to the Dragon, spend the night north of there. Sunday morning, more mountain roads through TN to Louisville. On through Indy, to around Champaign, IL for the night, then to Madison Monday AM. Doing straight interstate back on the following Fri-Sat. I did see a post in a post saying they were going. Anyhow, anyone else going? And, hey, even if you aren't a member, swing by to see what's happening, including vendors. Hey Wanderer, yep, I'm taking the Venture-Dream. Mike G in SC
  4. Unfortunately Lonna and I aren't going to be able to make the International in Cody. Way back when last year I reserved a room there in the hopes that we would be there. I haven't cancelled this reservation yet, but wanted to offer it up to any of our members if they want to have the room. Anyone interested PM me or post on this thread and I'll make sure that when I cancell that we get your name in there. This is a 1st come 1st serve deal, so the 1 responce I get is the one that will get it. If you want to call me my cell is in my profile.
  5. The HAWK is a new member.. Welcome Doug.... Just for interest sake I thought I'd post this as a welcome..
  6. 1980 - 1982 Honda CB 900 Custom..........or 1983 Honda CB 1000 Custom. I told him that I would post this to see if any of you all knew of this bike for sale here in the Morehead,Ky general area, say 150-200 miles out or so. Perhaps you may have one ? Thank you in advance. I thought this would be the place to post such a question, since it is not Venture or Tour Deluxe or Gold-wing related. Fuzzy
  7. I am looking for a OEM shop manual for my 2008 RSV. I checked with my local dealer and he said they were unavailable. He offered me an after market one that was not specifically for RSV's. I also need to get a cup holder, which may not be that big of a deal. I saw a post on here about a cup holder from Target for less than $10. Thanks for any help ya'll can offer. Charlie, Midlothian, Va
  8. I got an email asking if I knew where to get the "states visited" patches. I did some searching and found a place that has the patches and you color the states in with a marker. Thought I would post it here in case anybody else is interested. http://www.gmanindustries.com/shop/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=49
  9. We had a nice evening with the VR group tonight even though it was a bit cool and cloudy. Tomorrow looks to be a great day. Here are a few photos from this evening and I am sure others have photos to post as well. Dennis
  10. For Memorial Day I bought a new flag to hang. I also have a POW/MIA flag that I was to display with it. They will be flown on post on my ront porch in ront of my door.Question is, facing my house, does the American Flag go on the right or left???????????
  11. Spoke with him on the phone this morning bout 8:00 a.m. he said he was in Post Falls Idaho and heading to Salmon today. He said he needed to get a prepaid phone card and would try to call from Missoula Montana. I figure it should be about four hours from Post Falls to Missoula...conservative speed, then three hours from Missoula to Salmon. It is now nearly 6p.m. here in Salmon and we have not heard a word from him. His tracker says he has not left Post Falls... needless to say we are a bit concerned. If you have heard from Rocket, please give us a shout. Thanks, Erv
  12. Hey! I would like to send you all an invite to our post wedding reception via this informal post. It will be Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 28th in Dallas, Wi. The address is 1855 2 1/2 Ave. Chetek, Wi. 54728. Were having a barn dance, pig roast, DJ, and maybe a bonfire after the Dj is done. Food served at 5pm and DJ starts at 7pm. There will be room for camping. We will also have a couple kegs of High Life, but if you want anything else alcoholic to drink, it's BYOB. It will be outside and in a barn, so please dress casually. Please RSVP with number attending via text to PM or email to theskes@yahoo.com by April 30th so we know how much food to order. I'll be saving an area for cycle parking somewhere. I hope to meet more of the venturerider gang. Hope to see you there, Bill & Jeannie

  16. I was on the hunt to find how to raise the rear of the bike for better handling and more clearance in the twisties. I was lead to this post about making links. The leveling links spoke of in this forum lower the bike and they dont work for the earl RS. Pegscraper was doing a bunch of calculations and figured out that if we were to diconnect the linkage and replace them backwards. Facing the opposite direction the bike would raise very close to an inch. This post died in 2007 and there has been no update on how well this has worked out. I PMed pegscraper with no response so maybe someone else who has done this can chime in. I did this to my royal star this afternoon but due to a cold I cannot ride it yet. Maybe tommorow and see what difference there is. I only fear the strength of the links as installing them backwards allows a weaker, thinner side of the metal link to be in place of the fatter beefier side. I wonde rif this causes any malfuntion in the future.
  17. Been at the drawing board again. There always seems to be one more lil improvement that can be done. This lil creation takes care of two, maybe three things that I wanted to take care of. So not much fun in just saying what it so I'll just post a few pics and let ya guess. It's in raw condition now waiting for the epoxy to dry and will be ready for the final sanding and a few coats of paint and clear coat over the next couple of days. When it's done and mounted I'll post the finshed project. So have at it. Mike
  18. Okay I have a request or 3. 1st and foremost for me. When I do a search or when I post a new topic it gives me a list of threads that have had similar parameters. I love this feature, it is very helpful ..... but..... it only allows me to view one of the listed threads. When I try to go back after reading the thread to view the other threads they are no longer there. Is there a way to make them stay at the bottom of the page so we can peruse all of them before we post? 2nd I see where it was mentioned before but is there a way to make a sticky type date for when each post was made, a time date stamp on each individual post? 3rd. My Valkyrie thread under our user names shows how many threads we have posted or replied to... is there a way to do that too. It is kinda nice to see who has posted . Thanks this is a GREAT SITE you have done a AWESOME job with it and deserve a huge pat on the back...
  19. I received my renewal notice email on the 14th of this month (six days ago). Been on the run for the last few days and haven't had a chance to renew or return to the site. So tonight I tried to check in and had a red banner across the top saying that my trial membership would expire in 1123 days. Also noticed that my welcome box said my Private Message box was full. Even though that little box at the bottom of the page said I could reply, edit and post, when I tried to post something I got the screen that I didn't have the proper permissions to perform this action. OK I get the hint...Logged out and sent in my dues. Now all is right with the world. My only thought is "less than Six Days and you're shut off? And for a returning 4 year membership? Geese, new members get more slack than that.
  20. Not sure if this is the place to post this but what the hell! My brothers friend is ready to put his wing on the market and has said he will sell it to me for $8000 It is a GL1500 1998 with 10,000 miles. It has been garage kept and is immaculate. Not a lot of upgrades but it has a backrest and chrome brake covers etc. Is this a decent price in anyones opinion. I have been looking for a while, just not real hard. It is fuel injected and has new tires. I can try and post some pictures.
  21. I am just curious as to how many of you on this site have lowered your bike? I just bought an 08 Venture and it was a bit too tall for my liking and i had the dealer put a rear lowering kit on the bike and i gotta tell ya that it is so much better now then it was that it is unbelievable! The kit dropped the bike about 1.5 inches and now i have much better control of the bike then i did when it was at the stock height. The bike seems to handle better also and it doesn't appear to have hurt the ride any either. I just thought i would post this for those of you who may have been considering doing this to your bike but maybe were afraid to. Hopefully this post will help a few vertically challenged folks like myself enjoy their bike more. When i first bought the bike i was really nervous about the bikes weight when i would come to a stop etc, now i don't worry at all about it. Hope this helps. This bike is awesome and i cannot believe you don't see more Ventures on the road then what you do. I don't feel like the Goldwing or the Ultra Classic either one has anything on this bike, especially when you factor in the price. The RSV a great touring bike at a great price and should not be over looked by anyone when considering a touring bike.

    must see video....

tarnation...and I had a great reply composed to Jay's thread...that I'm sure would have been allowed. Dear Moderator, you could have at least waited until you read my post before the thread disappeared. ...but you made a good call, regardless.
  23. This is simply the beginning of a new set of Frequently Asked Questions I am going to create for us, focused specifically on the bikes, not the use of this board. Many of us get tired of seeing the same old things asked repeatedly, especially when they have been coved in great detail so often in the past. Hopefully, this will allow those new owners to find the basic ansers and links much faster! I am starting with the 2nd Gen models since that is the bike I own and know intimately, and I am starting it here simply to solicit ideas on what should be included. I am going to build this in stages, as I feel like typing and looking things up. I will begin with the next post by listing the FAQs alone without the answers, just to bet the list going, but I will keep editing that post and adding the answers to the questions until it is ready for movement to a more appropriate place. Please feel free to post any and all thoughts to this thread that will help in refining the ultimate document. I am sure that some of the items will be controversial, such as defeating the rudimentary pollution controls on these bikes, but I will endeavor to handle all items in a balanced and fair way (even the evil car tire debate!). But I also implore any of you to keep me on the straight and narrow if you feel I have not done a subject justice. Goose
  24. I don't usually post ebay listings on here because I feel if someone is paying attention to a listing on something they want, someone else should not post to the world of others too lazy to keep up with it. But, with the last transmission I picked up from an 86, which is after the correction, and me getting it for $25 plus a little shipping, there does not seem to be a lot of interest. So, I am going to post this and see if anyone is interested as in my mind this is absolutely the best way to fix a 2nd gear problem on an early 1st gen. With this and a few gaskets, I have not doubt you could end your 2nd gear problems forever as this is the way I did it several years ago on my bike. If anyone has any questions, just let me know. 25. Sense my great licence plate swap did not work out I will try this.... Here is your chance to own a lot of plates from around the world. For everyone who sends me two motorcycle license plates from their state they will get one entry in a drawing to receive one of all the plates sent in...... woo hoo!!!!! I am doing this as I would like to collect one motorcycle license plate from everywhere possible. All states, prefectures, provinces, countries, counties, etc as possible. If you want to play, post here and I'll PM you with my mailing address. how easy is that?? IF you will send me a third plate from your area I will send those plates to freebird (The guy who runs this forum) to hang in his garage. This drawing will be limited to the first person to post to this thread from each state. after they receive my address by PM they have three weeks for me to receive the plates then that state is released to the next person to post from that state. So who can send me some plates??????? The drawing will be held at a yet to be determined date as I may have to go on travel for work and it may take a little while for people to get excited enough to go to their garage to look for old plates or to go to the salvage yard to take some off of wrecked bikes....
