  1. Anybody seen or heard from V7Goose it's been almost two months since his last post not sure on his last visit. Hope he didn't get deleted.
  2. Myself, my brother, and 3 friends are riding from NYC to Catskill village and back tmrw and any and all are welcome to join us! Not sure what the best place to post up these rides is! Meeting at the first gas station on palisades parkway right over the George Washington Bridge 7:15 AM. Come one come all! Kickstands up 7:30
  3. Need advice to repair or a replacement source for the 'lead switch assembly' in the rear brake reservoir. First time working on a brake issue on this bike so I'll elaborate as best as can with what I've found so far. Inside the reservoir, this assembly has a hollow plastic post with a C clip stopper on the top. The C clip prevents the float from slipping off the post. The float moves freely and stays at the top when fluid is topped up. It appears this float has a magnet attached to the inside circumference of itself that should keep the relay inside the post operated (N/C) for continuity back to the CM. ( I compared this with the front reservoir which works properly. Measured 0 ohm short) With the assembly removed and a meter across the two leads, the float in place and tapping the post with finger a few dozen times, the meter shows intermittent to no continuity. Likely corroded or dirty relay contacts? Is it possible to remove the relay from inside the post without destroying the two wires? I got the rubber/grout collar off but couldn't get the relay loose to pull it out. Could only find this OEM assembly part on-line as discontinued. Everything is reassembled and mechanically works at this point, but the two leads towards the CM are temporarily bridged to keep warning light extinguished. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance. (what a better way to spend half of the long week-end eh)
  4. Hello everyone, Figured my first post should contribute, so I hope this is something new. I didn't see anything similar here. I just bought an 01 RSV and my first addition is Sirius Satellite Radio, here's how I mounted it. Being one to use what's available rather than buy, if possible. I used parts of the suction cup mount that came with the reciever. I'll post some pics and if you have questions I'd be happy to answer them. Jay
  5. WooHoo! Ordered on Monday, arrived yesterday, picked up today. Installation will be on Saturday. Afterwards, hopefully, no more slippage!! Will post pictures. RR
  6. Is it legal for my employer to post my photo in a public place, without my concent?
  7. Hey folks...the meet n eat is just over 2 weeks away. I need a head count so we know how much food to have. If you prefer bar.b.q over fish, let me know that too. also need to know if you are going to make it for dinner Friday night so we can give the restaurant a head count. You can post here or on the calendar. If you have already posted that you are coming and if you are going to dinner Fri, then you don't have to post again. can't wait to see everyone! Don and Patti
  8. Anyone heard from KY. Rider? He is from my neck of the woods and have not seen him post lately.
  9. I picked up an 86 royale this March and it wouldn't idle. Run down the highway but still wasn't really true Venture. I read about Seafoam and after 6 bottles, 700 miles of riding 'er hard (the bike, not wife) it still ran like crap at idle. I saw post after post about "Sync it" and still I didn't believe. I chased all kinds of imagined electrical issues, changed spark plugs, ohm'd wires and still it sounded like it was missing. Last night, I finally decided to build a poor man's sync tool with tubing and trans fluid. To my amazement when I started it, the 4th cylinder tried to suck all the fluid out. After 40 minutes of tweeking, it's purring like a kitten with it's tail on fire. Moral: Listen to the experts on here, they're wise beyond what is shown and SYNC your carbs, dammit. thanks guys
  10. I want to put a fleece on my set just to cushion it up a bit, but don't want to cut it more than I have to. The best way to accomplish this would be to remove the driver backrest, so all I would have to do is cut about a 1 1/2" square out of it, slide it over the post and replace the backrest. There is a small screw at the top of the post that I would have thought would allow me to slide off the backrest, but it's still on there pretty good. I don't want to break anything so I'm not forcing it. Is there something else I need to do in order to remove it? The bike is a 2001 Royal Star. http://members.storm.ca/~cameron_antaya/ventureseat1.jpg http://members.storm.ca/~cameron_antaya/ventureseat2.jpg
  11. Hi I need a carb body for a 84VR. Where would I post this request? Thanks
  12. I am new to this site and have really enjoyed reading all of the tech tips from a vast variety of owners. I'm particularly interested in plugging / removing the AIS on my 2001 Venture. I have read several of the post and was looking for anyone who has done it more recent. Any recent updated tips would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from anyone!!! Thanks, Jakbag
  13. My '83 Royale has the typical rusted-out tip on the left muffler. I read some of the previous postings concerning Jardine and Mac mufflers. If they aren't being made anymore (as was indicated in one post), are there other options? Thanks
  14. I just got my '87 adVenture and I've posted an intro on the intro section. I had a couple tech questions and was invited to repost them here. It is a 1987 Royale, 39k miles. Original paint about C- condition, will probably look B- when cleaned up and waxed. All plastic seems to be there with a little cracking on fairing. Slight tear on seat which is otherwise very comfortable. All systems seem to work, except battery may need changed. Had to jump to start, but massive corrosion on positive post. Seems to run okay on the center stand, a little rough on idle, like carbs unbalanced. Sounds pretty good otherwise. Battery is on charger now to see if it will hold anything. It has a curious probe that goes down into the middle top of the battery with a wire attached and there is what appears to be a diode or resistor in that wire as well. Front tire is almost new and the rear looks good. This bike was ridden, but not much recently. Immediate plans are to get the battery issue resolved, possibly replace the main fuse with a blade fuse, maybe even the glass tube fuse block with blade fuses. I use printed circuit board fuse receptacles and epoxy them together in an array to fit inside the original fuse holder. Then I think I'll put a set of fresh plugs in, make sure I have good voltage to coils, maybe balance the carbs. Do the valves on these need adjusted or are they hydraulic like the 'Wing? Is there a sticky post on trouble spots to take care of for new owners (other than basics of oil, tires, etc)?
  15. Well here goes. I have been stranded several times in the past by batteries and don't necessarily mind buying a new one before it is needed. I bought my '09 RSTD in June of '10 and it came with a BikeMaster TruGel battery. I was looking to maybe get a Shorai, but they are so dang expensive. I ended up getting a YSS Shock and decided it would be a good time now to change the battery as the shock is easier to get to thru the battery compartment. I was going to get an Odyssey but I never did like how the posts are and it is usually a PITA to get the wires to be just right. I looked at some of the posts on this site and saw good info on the Deka, and considering the price ($90.95 to my door) decided to pull the trigger on an ETX20L from Bohannon Battery. I phoned them Wednesday and since they and I are both in Florida I got the battery on Thursday via USPS. The battery is very well packed with styrofoam: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7065/6885911518_6bd0bbb4ff_b.jpg The battery case on first inspection looks to be very well made and very sturdy: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7255/6885917970_5de955993c_b.jpg I like the posts; they look easier to deal with than the captured nut style on other brands and screw hole found on the Odyssey. I am not sure what the post material is, you will have to be careful not to strip them when they are tightened: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7240/7032017739_abe90d43ff_b.jpg The battery includes 2 bolts and copper washers. Deka has a very elagent solution to include the screws: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7253/7032016931_89f0fa3849_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7265/7032015837_b003a8c803_b.jpg Here is the Bike Master TruGel in my RSTD: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7075/7032018807_87a524119a_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7131/7032020597_9a5c264e65_b.jpg I never liked the case on the TruGel. It seems to be cheap and toy like and very plasticy, more plasticy than a plastic battery case should be like. Side by side I think the Deka has a much better, and more industrial construction feel to it: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7111/6885925022_f08531ea0c_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7121/7032023643_0f69efa292_b.jpg Alright, well let the flames begin. I took the battery and shock out last night. Going to put it all back together today. I will post a separate post on the shock.
  16. Lets all post pictures of our bike so we can see what wonderful mods you done!
  17. I have to hit preview for this new thread post. But cannot do any "REPLIES" on other threads?
  18. I posted this in the 1st gen tech forum, maybe not everybody reads that, so I thought to put a link here. I really thought there would be more interest in these side covers from the comments I get when we gather. Don't want anybody to miss out. This will be a one shot deal, so follow the link and post your thoughts and wishes. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67117
  19. The past couple days I have noticed after making a post the back ground of this site will disappear ... then if I go to new post / or something else , it will come back.. this happens on more then one of my computers. seems to have been going on for the last few days or so,just a FYI for ya. Jeff
  20. I had a 2000 Venture and when it had about 80,000 miles Yamaha gave me a new set because of visible heat cracking......When I took them off they were still very smooth and no cracks showing on inside. The reason for this post is I have 93,000 on Midnight Venture with heat cracks showing on the outside......OK friends what the real deal here?...JK
  21. There was mention of starting a new thread dealing with Ponch and his progress by one of our members. I thought this was a pretty good idea and after talking with the moderators, who thought it also a good idea we will implement it here in this thread. Freebird had a good point as many folks have the initial thread subscribed in case someone posts something up. That is valid also and what I will do is leave a link on that thread to this one. I will post updates here so folks can see whats going on. I will make this one a READ ONLY thread, this way we don't get to the point of the other thread with 10's of thousands hits and several hundred responses. I will also let folks know of updates in the original thread and y'all can post to that one. I am going to post updates from when we were 1st able to see David. Again Thank You ALL for your continued support and prayers for David and Kathy
  22. i hope this isnt in the wrong area, and i know its not venture related but we all need to be aware of this i think, not wanting to cause any conflict so if i'm in the wrong with this post mod's will take care of it i'm sure
  23. If I come on to this sight after being off for awhile the main page is new as it should be. New posts and all. if I click on a post and read it and then go back. It takes me back to old posts days ago. If I hit refresh all is well again untill I read another post and then get out of it the new page is gone and replaced with old posts. What is going on?
  24. will post down the road.
  25. Just so you all know, we are getting HAMMERED with spammers right now. Over the past 3 days, there have been around 150 attempts by spammers to join our site and post their crap. Only 3 of them have succeeded in actually getting by the protections that I have in place and I caught and deleted 2 of those before they ever managed to make a post here. One did manage two posts before I caught and banned him. It's a never ending battle. I honestly don't understand what they hope to accomplish. First of all, even if they manage to register, it will be a very short lived experience for them. Second of all, do they not understand that NOBODY is willing to do business with a spammer? Even if they have a good price on a decent product, I would never give them a dime of my money.
