  1. got a change of plans for tomorrow. think i will go to litchfield. who all is planning on going ,and what time will you be there? bill
  2. Okay folks, the time is quickly winding down to the International Rally. And to be quite blunt about it, the sale of the raffle tickets for the trailer has been less than encouraging. We need to raise at least $1,000.00 to be able to purchase the trailer. And the ticket sales are no where near that right now. I know money is a bit tight this year, but if you are planning on purchasing raffle tickets, Please do so at your earliest convenience. If we can not sell enough tickets, the planning committee will need to make other arrangements for the grand prize.
  3. I contacted Russel Hicks and he does not have any ball studs, plus he is real busy at work right now so he isn't planning on ordering any. If anybody else needs a couple, let me know and I can order some extras. Or if somebody else is planning on ordering them from McMaster-Carr, let me know and I can have you add mine to the order. My E-mail is ka9j2003@yahoo.com Frank D.
  4. going to make this short cuz i smell dinner. first check out the sticky under meet and eats for the st. charles meet and eat. we would love to have you all there, and register for the 09 rally as soon as you can. to help us with the planning. thanks bill
  5. My wife and I are planning a trip to Charleston and Savannah in May with another couple. I'm seeking advice on things to see and do and places stay and eat. Thanks, Dennis
  6. In june I am planning to ride north on US 41 to the Terre Haute area, then possibly take US 40 east to US 231 and head south to Owensboro, Ky. I have a few days available for this trip. I have heard riding this part of Indiana is a good ride. I would appreciate any input as to places that are must see, places to eat, roads to ride, etc. Also, anything to avoid such as traffic, construction, etc. Thanks. Bill
  7. I am not being nosey! Just wondered where every one is planning on riding to this summer. I know where I want to travel; I am never sure if it will happen or not. I want to go the Smokies again, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and probably down in Kentucky to take some of the distillery tours. I also would love to go to some Blue Grass Festivals. Of course, to Freebird's MD. Yama Mama
  8. just, want to remind people to get your registration in as soon as you can for the 09 rally. it will be most helpful so we can get a count on the folks attending, and ordering tshirts, patches, and the name buttons that cindy is making. as far as an up date no major happenings. the committee will be getting together soon to finish up the planning. glad we got an early start. lots of neat things going on. i think we got the worst part of the planning behind us. looking forward to the riding season and you all be careful we want to see you at the hub. snarley bill
  9. Okay all. I posted a while back that I am retiring August 1 this year and am going out on a 30 day ride. I'll leave Northern Va. and my plan is to head north into Canada and stay off interstates as much as possible. Does anyone here have any favorite trip planning tool they have had good success with. Especially for someone who tends to be less than patient anf less than a net expert. Any advice would be appreciated. I did find the Harley Davidson Trip Planner someone on here recommended and will look at it as well. Thanks
  10. got a couple of requests from the members. since the riding season is approaching. i need to ask the members to first start thinking about registering for the international rally, so cinderella can get the orders together for the t-shirts, and since she has graciously took on the task of making the name buttons, so she doesn't get backed up on that. we will also have to let the hub know about what to expect so they can figure the food for the big dinner which they are catering. i also would like to get a rough count for the attendees for my st. charles meet in may, so i can figure the food etc. not trying to pressure anyone, cuz i know the economy is affecting many of us. but if you have an idea that you are planning on comming please let us know. thanks, bill ,and the planning committee.
  11. Well, after my trip to Oregon and Glacier NP ride last year I'm planning on Alaska for the summer of 09. Thinking of going back to Glacier NP, to Banff and up the rockies to Dawson Creek and then the Alaskan highway to Fairbanks. From there to the Arctic circle and back again. I've read a couple of ride reports of people doing it on their Goldwings, so I figure my RSTD can do it fine. Anybody else taken this trip? I'm planning on picking up the Milepost this year to start planning. I need to make the round trip in less than 20 days, so I'm a little concerned about the timing of everything.
  12. i know you all are getting tired of my 09 up dates, but we have been getting alot of pm's from members asking good questions. so rather than answer each one individually, i thought i would just put their questions and my answers out there for all the members. the latest question is what kind of events do we have scheduled. here is what we have so far. lots of planned and mapped out group rides. biker skill games, vendors on site, plenty of food including a catered final meal followed by a party still in the planning, just added today by yours truly, a 4 hour maintenence morning for the guys to talk tech and work on each others bikes with coffee and donuts. the gals that get up that early can come to. it will be from 6am, to 10 am. one day. this is what we have so far. we are still open for suggestions. please register as soon as possible to help us figure on the attendees, and make it easier for cindy to figure on the tshirts, rosebud on the name tags, and i can keep the hub up to date on how many they will have to provide food for. we are way ahead on planning this meet and i want to keep it that way so we can make it picture perfect. thanks to all the members who have made good suggestions, and offered their help in the planning. what a great bunch of members we have. snarley bill :clap2:
  13. LOOKS LIKE THE UP COMMING WEEK IN THE NORTHEAST WILL GIVE ALL US NORTHERNERS ANOTHER CHANCE TO GET SOME RIDING IN..PREDICTIONS OF 10 DEGREES ABOVE AVERAGE WEATHER IS A WELCOMING GIFT FROM ABOVE..NOT READY TO PUT THE BEAST AWAY ANYWAYS..I'M PLANNING TO MAKE THE BEST OF IT. FOR SURE..DEFINATELY GOING FOR A RIDE TOMORROW..GOTTA GET THAT HONEY DO LIST DONE TODAY...
  14. since all the members are going have input on our meet this year i am going to keep you informed every so often on whats happening on our planning committee. we have had a lull in the planning due to some personal mishaps and bringing a busy riding season to an end. after the st. jude ride we are going to start kicking butt again and cindy who is incharge of registration along with black owl will be getting the registration fee together and start taking registrations. since this is going to be a very big meet. we need all you folks to plan ahead so we can figure attendence numbers for the t-shirt orders and planning for the final dinner. the 60 rooms at the hub are full and we are starting to fill motels in nearby harrison. here's what we have so far. we are going to have maps available so groups can get together and plan individual rides. there will be to many bikes for planned rides for the whole group. we are going to have a catered final dinner in the awesome hall that we have available. we are going to have vendors on site inside the airconditioned hall. danob11 is incharge of the vendors . blackowl has suggested having skilled riding games so we will be working on that. rose bud is working on name pins for all the people who register, that are really neat so we know everyones name. don freebird has come up with an awesome logo for your t-shirts, and name pins that you will get with your registration. buddy is handling the motel accomodations and has a list of them on the site. roadkill is working on the raffles and i think we are going to raffle off a trailer again. colesgrandpa is working on the rides and ride maps. dooder1 and i are bringing up the rear and working on the food and all the junk that no one else is working on. members of the committee have been to the hub and they are working with us to make this one great meet. we have a great group working on this and i can't thank them enough. squidly and don freebird are on board to keep me out of trouble and make sure we don't forget anything. we have a few neat things in the works that i will let out down the road if they work out. anyone who has any ideas to make this meet any better. email me and we will take them into consideration. like i said this is your meet and we want it to be the best and most enjoyable ever. bill
  15. Wife and I are planning a ride out to Ft. Davis, TX. We want to head in a new direction and see things we haven't seen 5 times. We're planning on driving out on a friday afternoon and coming back Sunday, so it's going to be a quick trip. Just long enough to soak up the scenery for a day and head back the next. We will be riding mostly but there are some real nice mountan-ish roads out there (looks like) and some places here and there to stop and cork-off. Does anyone have any recomendations on any B & B or hotel/motels around that area? Any advice on roadways to see or avoid would be much appreciated too! Will be posting pics and review when we get back, too. Thanks!
  16. Anyone going to the Delmarva Bike Week? I will be going on Saturday with a bunch of folks. We are meeting up at the Seaford HD at 9am if you are interested you are welcome to join us. If you were planning or are planning on going another day let me know and I will meet up with you also. I want to hit all six locations. http://www.delmarvabikeweek.com/
  17. still need people that are planning to be at the 2009 ar. rally, to go over to the polls heading and vote. even if your not sure yet. there is a spot for that. we need a rough idea of how many people to expect to help with our planning. thanks bill
  18. A couple of us are riding from Toronto, Ont to Nova Scotia next Friday. We are planning to take most of the way there through the US. Once into Vermont, we are planning roughly the following route:#11 south to just north of Burlington Vt then #15 east joining #2 around St Johnsbury following it through NH into Maine all the way to Bangor then #9 into New Brunswick. We hope this is a fairly senic reasonably quick route without getting onto the interstates or major highways for too long. Can anyone from these areas comment on these roads, the conditions we may expect or anything we need to be cautious about during the trip. (ie construction, closures etc.) Do not expect there will be but just thought I would ask the question to be sure. Thanks for any help or comments you are able to provide. Robert
  19. Ronda and I are planning a trip in late September and early October. We plan on heading out to Yosemite National Park, then working our way up the coast to Seattle before making our way home. One of the places that we want to see is a beach that we saw on the Travel Channel several years ago. It is a beach with massive pillars of rocks and tidal pools that of course is only accessible when the tide is out. I think it is on the coast of Oregon, but it could be Washington. With all of our members, surely someone knows the place. Thanks
  20. Any suggestioms from you all ? Myself and riding buddy, close friend for yrs are planning a Fri. off be back Sun. trip from home (Olive Hill, Ky.) to (Clintwood, Virginia)- 3 hrs 30 min. from here. Then on to who knows where, but be back Sunday. Leaving out next Fri. or maybe next week Fri. according to the weather. Suggestions appreciated. We love the montains and parks, thought about going up 42 ?
  21. On an earlier thread I posted that I had bought an 84 VR off Ebay from a fellow member. Now I'm weighing options on how to get the bike from Central PA to Atl, Ga. And I was wondering if any members from that area were planning a trip south by cage and would consider picking the bike up and towing it south. Of course I would offset thier travel expenses by paying them for thier time and trouble. I would also be glad to meet them down south closer to Atlanta if they were not planning to come to or through Atlanta. Any takers?
  22. Hubby asked if I would jump on the website (we don't have internet at home) and find out from you guys if wiring from the Venture (tail lights and blinkers)to a new carrier he's made that sits behind the bike is easy or if he needs to do anything special. I'm not sure what thread I'm looking for about wiring. He's planning on doing it tonight so any help would be appreciated!
  23. So now that I have all my ducks in a row finally, and am ready to ride, how's everyone else planning on scooting over to see Don on his great day? Time, maybe, to do some organizing and planning. I thought about doing something different this year and take the Peelee Island ferry, but that turns out to be a 7 hour total trip with the cost of $44.00 per scoot and rider, plus the passenger, one way. Sounds a bit expensive and they won't let you ride while on the ferry. So looks like what we did last year sounds like fun again, but I would hire a less expensive place to sleep, rather than the Comfort Inn at over $100.00 just to close my eyes.
  24. By now most of you know the Lewis and Charlene are taking a well deserved break next year. I think they've earned a break, these events are stressful to put together plus the fact that Charlene got hurt this year was tough on Lewis. So Jeff and I decided to put something together for a replacement for next year. Now I need to know how many are interested in going. I'll have to start making some of the arrangements now. We are going to have it in Asheville NC. I'm planning on setting it up through Asheville East KOA. These are the breakdowns price wise for staying: RV sites $25 - $35, Tent sites $22 - $29, Kabins $30 - $70, Kottage-Lodge $90 - $125 They have the kottage lodges with bathrooms. All the kabins and kottages have ac. They have wifi as well as data ports available. If I set this up through KOA they recommend you start large gathering plans about a year in advance. So if you all would let me know if you're interested I can get started. I've already checked out stuff to do in the area, and ladies you'll like the fact that they have a craft place where you can buy the stuff they make. Not sure what exactly we'll do when we get there it's still in the early stages of planning. I'm not planning a ride to the dragon, but I'm sure if you want to go someone would be willing to get you there. Here's a link to the website to give you an idea of what it's like there. http://www.koa.com/where/nc/33116/facilities/ I've been to this KOA and they are very biker friendly. So let me know what you all think. Margaret
  25. Ok I have a question on Paint. I have been reading the treads on here and other sites about Painting. But what is the difference in urethane, lacquer, and enamel? Still don't get it. What kind do you use when repainting a RSV? Need to do some plastice repair on trunk. What is the best way to do this? Please help guys. Want to try and do some of this work myself. Also Planning some special painting on the bike in different colors. Hope to be able to paint myself. What can you get for that kind of painting (picture) paints? Would model car type paint work? Just a thought than Clear coat over it. Help!
