  1. My RSV came to me with Bubs pipes and they sound great. However ... after 3-400 miles they start to get annoying. Are the Road King pipes quieter? Perhaps I should consider finding some stock RSV Pipes? Anybody got a set lieing around collecting dust? Your Thoughts?
  2. I bought 08 Ultra Classic take offs and need to know what to do to install on my 09 RSV. I understand that the Harleys have a catalytic converter installed in one pipe. I don't know if the RSV has converters. Do I need to take the converter out of the Harley pipe? If so doesn't that mean that I'll just be running straight pipes on the RSV. I'm trying to just get a low rumble out of the RSV. Nothing to drastic just a nice tone. I'm on a budget and don't want to buy expensive pipes. I'M SO CONFUSED:bawling:
  3. Good Morning all, I had my 08 venture in for the first service this week and was talking to the service writer about a set of slip-ons I saw on a RSV when I bought mine in january. He was not sure of the brand but told me they were shochrome or shoguns. I have not talked to parts to get the name or price yet.Twin 1 1/2 pipes per side with good mellow tone. The queston is He told me they have to rejet the carbs and being there is no kit they have to make up their own. I thought I seen on one of threads that as long as you do not change the header pipe you do not have to rejet these V-4's. Am I being told a dealer lie or is there a chance he is telling the truth. He was not happy when I told him I would be putting the pipes on myself. I took it in for the first service but will be doing my own from now on. With the help of any of you guys if I find myself stumped on some of the maintance. Thanks for any help I can get on the slip-on problem. Richard
  4. Well I need some information. A friend has a RSV and four sets of pipes. A set of Wild Pigs which is on the load side, a set of stock pipes that are on the quite side. Two set of what we believe are Harley pipes that are shaped similar to the stock RSV pipes. One set has HAR FLT 1584 and the other set has HAR FLT 1584/1688 stamped on them. We want to hear how they sound but are concerned with how they are made. Both sets look identical. On both sets looking down the right hand pipes from the rear you can see a piece of metal that tapers off to one side down near the center or the pipe. No problem looks like the exhaust can exit unrestricted. The left had pipes you can not see through. At about the same position as the right pipes it looks like four courners have been folded in to close off the pipe. Between this "plug" and the exhaust end of the pipe is some holes for the exhaust gases to exit the pipe. I do not know why they are different but my concern is that the left side back pressure will be different from the right side back pressure and whether or not that if the two sides back pressures are different will that hurt the bike or it's performance.:think:
  5. Hey, I am getting my dads old bike, a 85 VR1200 and I am in the getting it ready for the summer and what not. I'm all most done but I just really hate the sound of it with the stock mufflers. I was asking around all the car guys around school and they said I could put straight pipes right off the chamber instead of the stock mufflers. Just wanted to know If this is illegal, and I don't know what it is but one guy said something about it would mess up back pressure? Thanks, BMattie
  6. Hi everyone, I am so excited to have found this site. I just picked up my new 2007 RSTD (left over model) from the dealer about 2 weeks ago. I think I have about 150 miles on it. I have the pipes removed, and tomorrow am going to try to make them louder. Any suggestions? My goal is to make them almost as loud as I can. THANKS!!!!
  7. My father has a RSV 1999 and I just bought a wrecked 2000 RSV (starglide). I have it almost road ready (cant get my saddle bag open, going to try to get the pinch pin out, and need front fender, but is rideable.) He is over 50 and as well is my mother (they ride together frequently). I am 19 and my girl is 19 as well. We are planning to go on our first "big trip" as a family. I plan to leave my hometown (now Orono, ME) (UMO student) and head for Bar Harbor, Maine and hop on the Cat and blast across the ocean to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, then to halifax and then up to PEI (to look at a vet school for the girlfriend and check out the sights). Here are some questions i have for those who have been or know anything about the area. What are some good stops? roads? cities? events? or awesome highways. i hear there are highways that go along cliffs by the ocean. This to me would be freaking awesome. Also hotels? Main concern is a good ride on GOOD roads. Being from Maine, i am used to the ****iest of roads, cracks, ruts, and sand everywhere. So for those who have traveled you know what the best riding is. Curvy, hilly, smooth and wide (like my women).. So any help planning this trip would be great. Thanks again. Also looking for some parts.. radio switch (left handlebar peice), front fender. Pipes, dad had some nasty's, and they rusted in one season (cheap ass pipes) though they sounded awesome. Can anyone direct me to a link where the HD pipes are installed and a possible how to, and parts needed to complete this conversion. thank you since i took off my trunk (the top was broken) i have parts available off rear of bike trunk rack, trunk bottom, interior trunk pecies, trunk latches, cb, truck mounting rack, passenger back rest black, and basically everything attached to the trunk.
  8. Could someone point me to a thread discussing the installation of these pipes? It seems like a read one once but now i cant find it. Thanks
  9. I have a set of vance and hines pipes on it now i am looking for a short set of pipes that have a little style to them. The pipes i have now just have four pipes running straight back. I just want something that is short of the the cylinders. Having trouble finding them and what do you think my pipes are worth?
  10. has anybody seen or hear of these pipes? they look pretty good, wonder how they sound?http://motors.shop.ebay.com/merchant/allproparts2_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZ
  11. Can someone point me a thread that show modifiying to RK pipes for a little more sound. I just put a set on my '08 RSTD would like a little more sound, not much more though. The pipes did not have the cat. Converters in them. Thanks!
  12. Have not done it yet but want to know how much force needed to seperate existing OEM mufflers from the header pipes. Bike is only a year old. Is there a gasket and should I reuse existing . Using BUB Sleepers Mufflers. Pipes will be here in a couple of days.
  13. I've read here about modifying stock pipes to get a little more sound by drilling the pipes and If you do, does it alter the performance? Looking for that Thread showing what to do. Thanks
  14. I recently bought a 06 RSV that the previous owner had installed a set of Python slip ons. They sound great but too loud for my taste, any ideas what I might could install that would be close to the sound of the original pipes? Thanks in advance and by the way,I am new to the site and really enjoy reading everyone posts.
  15. Hello everybody, The weather here in Pa. seems to be colder longer that I'd like it to be. However, my question is, how many of you who live in a cold climate, start your bike up once or twice a month and let it warm up? Is this ok to do? I don't have a battery tender on it so I have been starting it up every once in a while. Buddy of mine says it will rust my pipes from the condensation. He suggests I leave it alone, that I might be doing more harm that good. I'm talking about an 08 Venture. What do you guys think? Thanks
  16. I came home from work today to see the long awaited package at my front door. When I opened it, it held a pair of Baron bag slash pipes and eyebrows for the faring that I had purchased from WIKD. Since it is winter here in Michigan I couldn't wait to spend some time in the garage doing something to the neglected beauty. So my second gen. got a new set of pipes put on today!!!!! I had to start by listening to my stage IV road king pipes, and then proceded the switch. My face kinda resembled this:big-grin-emoticon: when I started it up with the Barons on. Then I proceded to do this. Now my wife knows she has a monster on her hands since it is supposed to be in the 40's here this weekend. Round about March or April it will be getting a new paint job and then it's all ridin' until winter 09 when i'm sure i'll find something else to do. A HUGE THANK YOU TO WIKD for giving such a good deal on these. Thanks for listening. Big Mike COME ON SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. I've been toying with this idea for a couple years and thought if I aired out my idea here it would help me with a decision. I want 4 real pipes on my Midnight Venture.I want to take 4 small diameter fishtails with muffler and weld them in 2 pairs very close together side by side ....I figure a couple small straps under them to weld them parallel. Then locate and install bracket to attach to bike. Then similar to a old style Royal Star run seperate pipes to each muffler. But doing it to keep my passenger pegs in stock location will require a couple special shaped hook ups to original pipes coming out of the 4 cylinders. Mess up my passenger comfort would be bad for my sex life! I have a friend who had 4 fishtales on 1996 Royal that was so cool of a sound. Get that sound with our higher horse power motors gives me goose bumps! LOL I was looking at some of the old 650 V-Star shields that would work to cover new pipe sections and match Yamaha Chrome. I have them laying around but even if I had to buy some other Yamaha shields that shouldn't be too painful $$$$. I think it would look and sound great! Now lets hear it guys....what you think. JerryK
  18. Well i am trying to run the khrome werks exhaust again on the venture. I have made sure that it has no vacum leaks and no exhaust leaks. The pipes sound great , no backfires when shifting, but on decel a lot of pop, pop, pop. Not loud, more like a gurgle. Have also just done a carb sync. Is this just something that you have to live with when changing exhausts? P.s. - also have already sealed the small leak at exhaust y pipes. Any info would be great.
  19. We received more snow than normal and I guess you could say this disaster is because of my own stupidity. I saw the snow piling up but did nothing, thinking it was too cold and I would rip the fabric. Well this is the result. I can't get to the bike yet, but some of the pipes are down on it. I'm hoping the damage is not too bad. I guess I will have to wait until the snow melts to lift the shelter off the bike.
  20. Hey all: don't post much but am on here daily but I need some advice on how to remove the honeycomb wire mesh that is in one of my 07 RK exhaust pipes. I put them on my 07 RSV three months ago and are much louder than stock. It is in the left one only and yes I have drilled both pipes out in front and back and they sound great but it seems the left pipe isn't as loud. I also wonder if its worth my time to even take it out as I don't know if it will make it any louder. any thoughts or advise appreciated. Happy holidays to ALL!!! Brian D.
  21. I just won a set of these pipes on eBay and installed them this week. I have run into two problems. One is I have a leak where the slip on meets the head pipe. Even tightened all the way up it still leaks. I just removed them and used high temp silicone in the joint and am waiting for that to dry to see if that fixes it. Any other ideas or techniques to curing that if the silicone doesn't work? number two is although I like the sound it is a little loud accelerating through the first few gears. I want to take out the baffle and wrap it but was wondering if anyone has done this and how it changed the sound? Also did you make multiple tight layers or just one wrap? Thanks for any input.
  22. Guday all, Can someone please shed some light on this issue? I put K&N filters, iridium plugs and Barons slash cut pipes on my 2004 RSV. I then had it re-jetted and Dyno'd. Since this work has been done, every now and again (Genrally after about twenty to thirty km's) the red "overheating" lamp comes on. It stays on and then goes out after about fourty seconds. I can't seem to pinpoint any pattern to this apart from the fact that I'm normally going up and down the gearbox. All the "experts" I've talked to say that it's everything from a faulty thermostat to lack of or to much back pressure in the pipes. Can anyone help?
  23. i bought the bike used in June and it had some back fire to it sounded kinda cool at the time but now it is really starting to gett on my nerves. the bike has had new pipes put on it. so is it the pipes having to much back pressure, do i need to remap, carb snyc or just adjust it till it goes away? any help would be great.
  24. I had a chance to ride with another Venture today that was identical to mine but with MANY more toys on it. So, I got to see what mine would look like with lots of toys. He had aftermarket pipes on it that sounded pretty good. He said they are Sampson slipons but didn't remember the model of the pipes. He said he bought them because he wanted Fishtails. I really liked them because they weren't overly loud, but had a nice tone to them. I thought I would ask opinions on a couple of forums about Sampson. Do any of you have experience with them - good or bad? How is their quality? craigr
  25. Can't find the topic. Didn't Harley have the same dia. gasket for sealing the head pipes? anyone have the part # .... Thanks Dave
