1. Well, its a snow day, i have a heated garage, and during the summer my friend hit a mailbox with the car i sold him. It shattered his window and left a pretty big dent in both him and the car. I was on my dads 05 GL 1800 when he called and told me, as soon as he told me he was bleeding, i new i needed to hurry. I got on the GL, and i tell you what, that is a quick bike!!! But i digress, we are going to pull the dent out of the side, with a kit, puddy it, sand the small parts and repaint the holes, we also have to do some work on the power window, the motor is still good, but the dent doesn't let it go down. One time though, we were driving around in the freezing cold and someone had pushed down on the window too long, we hit a bump and down came that new window! When were done with that, were going to pull the pipes off my 85, straight off from the catalitic converter, they are going back on though, i just want to hear that muscle car sound!
2. I had posted on the welcome forum, but it was suggested I move my questions here. I just purchased a 1997 XVZ13AT Royal Star Tour Classic. I was always tinkering and playing with my old ride (97 Honda Shadow VLX), and plan to do so with the new one. My initial problem is that the guy I bought it from had nothing more than a single key for it, no manuals, tool kit, or anything. I don’t even know what grade oil or an oil filter number for the first change. So two initial questions to get me started: 1) I’ve seen at least 2 versions of printed service manuals and 3 versions of electronic service manuals and am looking for recommendations - both good and ones to steer clear of. Also, any good sources – used is fine. 2) The only project that is a priority is changing the pipes. The bike has performance pipes on it that, well, are too loud for me. Maybe I’m getting to old, but I’ve got to change them. I haven’t looked closely at the pipes to tell you the brand, but my initial feeling is to replace them with a complete set of used original pipes. Anyone know of any good sources? I haven’t really seen anything on E-Bay, this forum, or anywhere else I’ve looked. Anyone upgrade and looking to sell their originals? Thanks for any recommendations on either!
3. Why and did it help in preformance ? Not looking for louder pipes. cb
4. Thom here is the pictures of my exhaust pipes that I made for my Venture. I hope this works.
5. So I have a smell after I have been riding for a while not sure what is is maybe fumes from the carbs. It is not a raw gas smell but it is a smell like exhaust. I know this is not much to go on but its all I can say. The pipes look good when I look at them it is not running rich.
6. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GutDB6KFzto]YouTube - Ride With Mike[/ame] No Music except the sweet sound of a Yamaha V-4 with Khrome Werks pipes!!
7. we need to come up with something better and cheaper , i am thinking of something like the 2nd gens . i have a JD-2 bender and have made headers for cars before . if somebody can come up with a good and eazy design i will try to make it . if we make the pipe coming out the back longer and bend it dif. we could use slip ons . anybody know the ID and OD of the intake and the out take of the pipes ? Squid , you have had both bikes what do you think ? Thom
8. My 06 RSV came with stock RK pipes. I would like to get a little more sound. How do you drill the baffles and how many holes do you drill? I looked at some of the old posts but didin't see specifically how it should be done or how many holes? Thanks
9. Does anyone have an idea how a set of R/K Screaming Eagle pipes would sound on an '09 RSV? Thanks....... Art
10. I'm not sure so I've come to the experts here. I have a 2006 RSTD but am wondering if these pipes off a 2006 venture will fit. I presently have BUB exhaust on the bike so am hoping the venture pipes will slip on. Here's the ad: Exhaust came off a 2006 Yamaha Royal Star Midnight Venture with 500 miles for a trike conversion. Like new condition thanks Greg
11. Lewis enticed a Hooter's girl to assist in the auctioning off of the Baron Nasty Boy pipes donated by Sleeperhawk. Sleeperhawk rode out to pick her up. See the shocked look on Jamie's face. Thanks to her hard work, the pipes brought in $225.00 for St. Jude's!
12. Hey all: have RK slip ons from an 08 roadking. Totally gutted them out including catalytic converter drilled out. Then right after installing them I changed plugs and then the popping on deceleration began. Also would pop when shifting up from 1st to 2nd. Well to make a a long story short had a carb sync done today and guess what, they were off and that has fixed the problem. No more popping and pipes sound great, really roar when getting on them. I do not have the AIS plugged. So for all that may be having popping issues, try to get a carb sync and should fix your problem. Oh, I have an 07 Midnight RSV with 11, 000 miles on her. Brian D.
13. I have a neighbor I would very much like to annoy so what would be the cheapest set of slip on pipes for a 07 RSV? Thanks Phil
14. ooooooooooh, ever see two grown men giggling like little school children? A friend had sent me some Larossa downturn slippons to try on my RSV as he didn't need them anymore, these were brand new and they installed easily, replacing the screaming eagles I had on prior. Wow.. these things are loud lol.. but not harsh on the ears (well not harsh to motorcycle enthusiatsts at least) Just the flash up sound, idling and blipping of the throttle brought huge smiles to our faces hehe.. (still chuckling about it..) I will one of the first to say I doubt I'd run with these on for long as I think that under full power they will be very very TOO loud.. And I'm not sure how they would react with the bike without any additional tweaking beyond my abilities.. However, I would ask if the learned and experienced minds here could help me out with some pre ride observations.. When I blip the throttle, there is a burbling noise not normally heard with the other pipes.. THIS would be akin to the sounds people hear making them want to remove the AIS. So I would assume that when I roll down the highway, and decellerate, I'm going to get a lot of blurbling.. Remembering Goose's sage words about not removing one's AIS for troubling purposes, I'll be leaving it on.. However, I'm just curious about the blurbling sounds.. Exhaust temp.. What caught us by surprise is the amount of air being pushed out of the ends and the lack of heat.. no kidding. When you look down the end of the pipe, you can see the glow of daylight through the other end at the downturn.. I would have assumed I'd feel more heat in the exhaust gasses. and the volume of air is less also. To compare, my buddy rolled out his RSV with stock pipes, and you could feel heat in his exhaust almost right away. Strange.. Now the next part I may know the answer anyway but the exhaust gases feel 'wet'.. but in no way what so ever smell like fuel, not even a little.. because these are downturns, they leave a wet spot on the pavement.. It's warm and humid here, so I'm assuming this is all normal.. Tonight, if it's not raining as normal, I'll be taking this out on the highway with my cameras to record the sounds.. if it's not that hard on the ears, I may leave them on for a while but man, I have the funny feeling they won't be there for too long hehe.. what a sound though.. nice!!
15. Hey, Had a few deer start to come out in the past, but they always hesitated when they heard the loudness of my Fishtail Pipes. A few weeks back I took off my Fishtail Pipes and put back on the stock pipes, wife like's the quiteness, but now.... Yesturday, riding thru heavy wooded area close to road, had a deer jump right out in front of me, did not see it, luckily at an angle going away from me. Going about 65mpr, I immediatly hit full breaks, Rear first, then split second, front. Keept the Handlebars straight forward but the Rear End came sideways a little 6-8" to the right. Still was going about 25-35 I'm guessing when the deer passed by, I left off the breaks, But the bike was already doing a woble side to side, like when you pulled the string on a spinning top. Thought I was going to loose it, had bike's do a little woble before when hitting small animals, but nothing this bad. With that much of a woble side to side, Is this Normal??? Later-
16. I know! MORE Road King crap! But maybe this is useful. I'm part way through the install of my "Harley touring pipes". I went to the local H-D dealer and asked if I could have a pair of "take-offs"... pipes they take off new bikes when the owner wants a different set. I was given (my cost: $0) a set they said came off a touring bike. I don't know that they are Road King, or what. They were free and in good shape. They have minor scratches, but I did mention they were free, right? The rest of this is to alert newbies to what the issues are when they read install threads. If you don't know what people are talking about, you miss the information being conveyed. So... here's some information. So here is a top view of my stock RSTD mufflers above the H-D touring pipes. The front of the mufflers are to the right. You can see that the RSTD pipes have the bracket welded to the middle of the pipe, offset to the inside. In contrast, the H-D pipes have the nut holes at the tale of the pipes, centered. This causes the main mounting problem, of how to get the bolt on the bike to meet the nut holes on the H-D pipes. Commonly, you make or buy a bracket that spans that gap. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3642/3691214905_9f02c43f0b.jpg Another view. In my opinion, the RSTD pipes are very attractive. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2657/3692021524_579efc409b.jpg Alternative installation method: Zip ties. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2644/3691215573_0aa375d98c.jpg JUST KIDDING! My brackets are coming, but I wanted to hear how they sounded and couldn't wait. But this does show where the H-D bolts go. The mate is visible on the inside of the black pipe, further towards the front of the bike. Here's one of the other issues: the muffler clamp. I have a V-Twin part coming (P/N 31-9920), but this photo shows the ugly mating of the H-D muffler to the Yamaha header pipe. I had to pry the muffler open a little to get it to go over the exhaust header. It probably needs to go on further, but I am waiting for the bracket to come--that will determine final locations. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3604/3691215821_4cdd0907ef.jpg OK, so here is the good stuff. I made videos of my stock pipes before I installed the touring (Road King) mufflers. Stock Pipes: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FWIMtsJhDY]YouTube - Stock pipes on the Royal Star Tour Deluxe[/ame] Harley-Davidson pipes: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nt6QoJtem0s]YouTube - Road King Mufflers on the Royal Star Tour Deluxe[/ame] You can judge for yourself whether you think they are louder. I think they have a different tone and bleat much more when you throttle. And you can see that they shake the camera with the exhaust. But for me, the jury is out as to whether they need modification or not. Hope this helps make the issues a little clearer.
17. How much would you pay for a set of used BuBs? They are still shiny. No damage to to chrome and no rust. They were just fine when they came off the bike to be replaced with stock pipes. The only damage to them is near the tips on the bottoms where they would sometimes get scraped in the hard leaning corners. You have to lay under the bike to see the scrapes. So how much would you pay for these?
18. Here I am with my RoadKing pipes (slip ons) and they have a nice rumble to them when it's cold out but now in the summer heat they are tamed down and sound like all the other RSV.. not bad.. no worries.. But Hmm what if I wanna have a louder sound? Not talking about ear splitting racket but a manly-man sounding bike, ya know? (yes, you know what I mean I keep seeing references on making the RK pipes louder but can't find info how to do it or if it's reversible.. Or would I be better off with a new set of slipons, ones that are meant for the RSV, that offer a nice sound.. The Baron 4-2-4 I've heard and didnt like the look or sound, unfortunately, sorry.. What's everyone else running that they enjoy most? Thanks in advance. Cheers
19. I bought a set of RK pipes and one has a Cat. I'm concerned about uneven back pressure on my 2005 RSV I just got. How deep does the Cat go and what size hole should be drilled through it ? Also does it matter on the RSV which side the dimple on the RK Pipe faces. If not I can just buy a single pipe without the CAT. There some poeple on EBAY selling the pipes separately. So I can use 2 lefts or 2 rights which ever does not have the Cat if it doesnt matter which way the dimple faces.
20. I see in previous posts (2 years old) that there is a way to put exhaust tips on the stock RSV mufflers, but I do not see any pictures. I took cut the inside cone out of the end of the exhaust pipes then drilled the last baffle wall. I am happy with the sound, but not so much the look. Temp fix is I will get some hi-heat silver paint.
21. I can't see how this connection is supposed to happen (front pipes). (My bike came to me with fiberglass fabric and rolled-around shim material.) My center-section (cross-over) maybe incomplete, but it comes forward about 1.5 inches intil a slight bead (and no further). The pipes come down and butt against the little stub pipe. I just bought the (fiber?) sleeves and new outside clamps... But the sleaves seem too small to go over the beads on the center section. What am I missing here? HELP? Thanks, Mark Koontz '83 Venture Wichita, KS
22. I'm new to the Venture world. Just picked up my 2000 Vivid Red Cocktail Venture on Wed. Was just curious what kinds of pipes people are using? A buddy of mine had a 99 a few yrs back and he had Bub's Big Willy's I believe on his and I loved the sound. I'm not looking for loud and obnoxious. Just something to get noticed.
23. My RSTC has jardines on it and they sound good. BUT, I am wanting to go to the 4 into 2 style. I have read that some guys have used Harley pipes to do this. Or, are there kit out there for this application. I want a deeper sound than the Jardines, that is why I am researching this. Thanks.
24. Can anyone recommend where a Canadian can purchase a color tune kit for a 2006 RSV? (which size, 12mm?) and a clamp on tach? The only tachs I can find are all in the US and for what ever strange reason they can ship to Canada.. what is it, top secret technology? My exhaust IS sooty compared to the other RSV bikes I checked out so I'm guessing I'm running rich.. (I have K&N filters and Screamin Eagle pipes and burn premium) Any help would be appreciated.. Anyone know where to get the appropriate 10 psi air pump for the front shocks? Thanks in advance! Cheers
25. Does anyone know what type of pipes these are? Here is the number stamped on them HAR FLT 1584/1688.:think:
