2000 RSV - The guy I bought the bike from this past winter just stopped by work and dropped off the factory pipes. Said he was cleaning out the shop over the weekend and figured I might want them. Question: the pipes on there now sound OK although get a bit loud on the highway and need to crank up radio. Also cackles and pops when slowing from high speeds. Are oems quiet like a Goldwing or?

I have a couple long trips coming up, and decided I wanted to put the stock mufflers back on. A quieter ride == better rider endurance. First off, I'd forgotten how good she sounds with the stock pipes. Not throaty and race-car like, but strong and powerful. Sneaky fast. Secondly, I'd forgotten how hard it is to judge shift points with the stock pipes. I really didn't learn to ride her hard until I'd put on the Road King mufflers and could hear the engine wind up. Today, following a pair of Harleys, I couldn't hear when I reached the rev limiter. Not that it matters so much when you have a couple slow pokes in front of you, but a few times I let them ride ahead a bit so that I could zoom out. If you are new to the RSV/RSTD world and have come from V-twins, I think you ought to try some louder pipes so you know how to rev it higher than the twin. Third, I had to relearn to start my bike first so that I could hear it running. LOL I like the F-1 sound the RKs give me, no doubt. They will be going back on between trips. But for now, I'm digging the stock pipes! Anyone else return to the stock pipes? Dave

I have a 98 RSTC and purchased a set of 98 RK pipes last week, new take-offs and a set of V-twin chrome clamps. I will make some brackets to hold the new pipes in-place. My question is, where do I actually make the cut to remove the stock pipes? Is there a thread or post that shows the place. I don't want to screw this part up. I just bought a 96 Tour Classic a couple of months ago and noticed the "guts" coming out of one of the 4 into 4 exhaust pipes. I think these are stock pipes. I'm guessing this is the baffle. Long thin cylinder with threads on one end. Tried tapping back in a couple of times but always works its way back out so last time I just pulled it all the way out. Will this have a negative effect on engine performance. Seems to be running fine, but don't want any damage. Has a little more pronounced backfire, popping sound when letting off the throttle, but that sounds pretty cool. Thanks for your help. Bob -
I have a couple of questions. First I've never removed my exhaust pipes. I want to take them off to clean things behind them. Will I need to replace the gaskets if I do? Second, I have been considering putting hardbags on my bike. I saw a 99 RSTD with Road King bags that looked great. My problem is that I don't have 4 into 2 pipes and the bags won't fit with 4 pipes. Do any of the newer RSTD 4 into 2 pipes fit my 96?

I have aftermarket pipes on my Venture that are way too loud. Don't ask me who made them. Came on the bike and have no markings. Look like bag slash pipes. Love the looks and the tone, just wish they were a little quieter. If anyone still has their oem's or are just wanting LOUD pipes, pipe up! (couldn't resist that) I'd love to get these off my ride.

i've read lots of posts on here about buying expensive pipes , only to be disappointed with them being too loud...and now having to sell, trade ,swap, buy...and be disappointed again.....i did the same thing...with my roadhouse pipes but i found a $5 solution to the problem that might work for others here , if you have removable baffles...........i haven't seen it mentioned here.............aside from having the baffles wrapped.....buy two stainless steel scrub pads and put one in the front of the baffle....to keep the pad from being blown out...i used a vise to squeeze a section of the baffle down....i didn't insert the baffle horizontally in the vise, but as vertical as i could get it...and pretty much in the middle.....this might do the trick for you and save the $300 - $500 pipes you just bought.....worth a try anyway....

My 97 RSTD has stock pipes that have been drilled out. Not something I would have done personally (was that way when I bought it), but it sounds great and has no signs of running lean or rich. I'm certain that I'm losing torque, but the bike runs great. Of the pipes I have researched, the Bubs set looks to be the way to go but now that I have gotten used to the deep growl that the bike presently has, I'm wondering if the Bubs will be too quiet. Has anyone been through my scenario before or have some advice to give? Thanks -
Hi i got a 05 rstd from the states but live in England and looking at the forum i see some people have drilled out the Exhaust pipes. Is this a hard job? and how is it done.

My scoot runs great. I couldn't ask for it to run any better. But.... since it has warmed up, I am noticing that my left leg gets warm. I stopped today, and touched the pipes. The left two pipes, I can only put my hand on for a second or so. The right two, I can leave my hand on. They are pretty cool to the touch. This was after about a 30 minute ride. Like I said...it runs great. The coil problem was already taken care of by Buddy. My only real issue is that one leg gets warmer than the other. Any ideas? P.S. Also, I cleaned the insides of the pipes when I put them back on last week. They still look shiny and new inside. I cleaned them to get an idea of how each side is burning. They are looking the same...like brand new.

I just bought a '97 RSTD and would like to know the best way to modify the stock pipes on it to increase the sound. Or is there a better way to get what I want; i.e., Road King pipes, etc. Also, if I do any modification, will the carbs have to be adjusted. I want to keep it as simple as possible (and cheap). Also, does anyone know if a set of SE mufflers off of a 1999 Harley Dyna Super Glide would work? -

The pipes on my scoot are "BUB"s and I must say, I'm not too crazy about them. I'm assuming the previous owner had the carb jetted and all, but I'd really prefer to have something different. In fact, I'd be happy with hollowed-out stock pipes... Anyone have any idea where to find some standard pipes without spending $500+? -
I know mufflers have been discussed a bunch on here, but here we go again. I don't want a loud bike, but that sweet V4 needs to be heard a little better. I've read that a lot of folks really like the HD Road King pipes, but what would would sound good (not looking for loud, I just want to hear the bike better) and be easiest to install? Also looking for a bargain.

Hey everybody.... I'm going for that "V8 rumble sound" for my 04 RSV and not leaning to the 4-2-4 slip ons. (Very cool sound though) I could use some current feedback (some of the posts are a little outdated) I need to let my Harley/custom buddies know when I pass them not sound like a "sewing machine"...LOL I'm getting torn between: Baron Bag Slash Pipes cool sound sample (Mounts were altered to raise the pipes closer to the bags for improved ground clearance, incase I ever lowered I'm 5'6) KHROME WERKS Slip-on’s (some posts complained about tips flaking?) Bub Sleeper (does anybody know if black tips can work on these? I've seen them on other non-metric bikes and look sharp) LA Choppers OVAL BAG SLASH PIPES I've seen no response on these yet. AND TRY TO WIPE THE SMILE FROM MY FACE!!!!!! I just wrapped up installing my Mustang Seat w/DBR and Khrome Werks pipes!!!! MAN DO THEM PIPES SOUND GREAT!!! I will load pictures tomorrow evening.

Has any one put on different pipes & Put on a high flow air cleaners, mening throwing the air cleaners away & puting on a hihg flow unit. then jetting the carbs to match, With a dino & gas meter? Im not looking for more power, But more then 34 mpg. My o8 Venture has good power, But the mpg sucks! My thery is to give it more air & get rid of it with less restriction. Then set the carbs to match would help a lot. Just wondering if any one has did this & what the resolts were???????:think:

I am sure some one has seen this before and can point me in the right direction. I am at work now but I do have my tools with me. As I was riding to work this morning I noticed a Puff of steam from the left rear side of the engnine and upon looking down I noticed that I had some anti-freeze on the pipes ( silver slivers and specks on hot pipes.) it was not much but there. The puffs at first were intermitten as thoght something was starting and stopping the leak. Now I know there is a water line along the upper frame that I believe goes back to somewhere in the top end of the engine. I made it to work after stopping once to check and see if I could see any water leaking. Getting here I had a constant small amount of steam but never got any indicator lights that I was overheating. I removed the resivor cover and yes It was out of antifreeze. This same thing happened last year on the right side and I never found the leak and until now it has never appeared again. I refilled the resivor and the issue disappeared. I plan on removing the tank at lucch to see what I can find but does anyone have a idea where the issue comes from based on its apparent location on the L rear to center of the engine? Nothing shows up on the Right side of engine and all steam rose from left side of gas tank. Byt he way it is about 67 here so its not from the cold. IDeas??? jb may be walking home. Actually, I have Roadside assistance for towing but would like to fix it here at lunch if possible.

I need a pair of first gen pipes, I want them to be very inexpensive and it doesn't really matter on the quality. I plan on drilling them out anyway, so if anyone has any pipes, please let me know THANK YOU!!! -CJ

I pulled the pipes off of my 85 Venture Royale, and i put the tips for the pipes sticking outward from where the pipes should be. Dad thinks that its bad for it, but i think that since its going through the catalytic converter, it shouldn't make any difference. Having the pipes off didn't really affect performance so what do you think?

I am considering swapping out my Baron 4-2-4 pipes (which I hate to do because I love the look but they are getting loud) for a set of Harley pipes on my 2005 RSTD. A friend last night gave me his stock 2010 Screaming Eagle pipes. I haven't yet taken them out of the box. Looking at couple of threads here, I guess the diameter is different - 2" vs. 1 3/4" - are there adaptors and does that hurt anything? I might assume (especially in CA.) they have the catalytic converter - any problem? Since they are for the 110 motor - would I be better off looking for Road King pipes???? I might assume that a stock Harley pipe is going to have a "little more rumble" than the stock RSTD pipe, but certainly be quieter than what these 4-2-4 pipes have gotten to be (I like the sound - but many say whoa - they are loud). I'm not mechanically inclined, so thought I would ask couple of questions before messing with my buddies gift. After a lot of thought, I figured this may be the best way for me to go, as I don't have the dollars to get the Bubs - Kromewerks - or whoever else makes pipes for these bikes. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
