  1. My 83 is sluggish and seems to be short on fuel at the lower RPM's It starts to take off and accerlerate at around 2500 and once at 3000 hang on. It idles good and all 4 pipes warm up evenly. It seems to get better as the day goes on. I am doing the sea foam in the fuel and plan on a carb sync. Any other suggestions??
  2. Whats a reasonable price to pay for some Harley pipes and what does the bracket for mounting them to my venture sell for
  3. There is a guy selling a set of Screaming Eagles slip on mufflers. My son wants to put something"louder" on the '87. States that they have 100 miles on them and wants $325.00 OBO. I know there are several HD pipes that will work on a 1st Gen. Is this one of them ?
  4. Hello All, I’m looking for instructions for removing and inspecting the exhaust on an 05 RSTD. After installing a set of BUB slip-ons, my popping is more accentuated and I want to inspect the pipes for leaks and cracks. I have searched our site for a breakdown document but no luck. Does the chrome come off separately from the pipes or as a unit? Are there gaskets to replace once the pipes are removed? I am assuming the pipes mount to a flange that insets into the head? Thanks in advance.

  6. Does anyone know how to tell the difference between Macs and Jardines? I bought the bike with aftermarket pipes that are just a bit too loud for my taste. I installed pipes from a Harley to take the "bark" out and can't find any identifying marks on aftermarket pipes. Any help would be appreciated.
  7. After installing a set of LA Choppers Oval Bag Slash Slip on pipes I quickly discovered how much more "popping and crackling" was going on in the pipes....I decided to purchase a jet kit from Factory Pro ("drop in" requiring no slide drilling) #crb-y92-1.0. This decision was based on the majority of opinions that the RSTD's are lean from the factory. Just picked up bike today. Crackling & popping and occasional backfire upon decel. and hard throttle have been cured! Much more pleasant (IMHO) to my ears, no pops or garbled sounds on downshifts either. Occassionally when you back off throttle quickly after hard accell. there is a "pop" - but just one (grin) not the "dozens" as before and this does not happen each time. If you're curious the install was a coule hund. bucks (+100 for jet kit). Oh yeah, plus a few "hun." for pipes......Oh well, nuthin' comes cheap nowadays anyhow. These pipes are a deep throaty rumble at idle and produce a sharp mid-tone bark when snapping throttle. I like the idle a lot, throttle bark is nice too; however, the cruising volume on highway could get old on long trips.....I think I'll look into wrapping the baffles with steel wool (two brothers racing) or fiberglass packing. Anybody have an idea as to what percentage of volume reduction can be had by packing baffles? (These pipes are the same as the Baron's Oval Bag Slash Pipes) Anyway, it may not be necessary to jet this bike with stock or slip-on pipes but it sure smoothes down the exhaust note a lot! (Popping and crackling and occassiona back/afterfire accurred with stock pipes as well. Later & Advice/opinion is always welcome!
  8. Hello guys and gals. I am sure this has been asked before. I am looking at changing my mufflers and want something that is not too loud yet has a nice deep throaty sound to it. It is so hard to pick something without hearing them. I have heard so many pipes on bikes that sound horrible. Not that they were loud, they just sounded like they didn't belong on the bike. Or maybe they were just crappy pipes. Who knows. And that is why I am having a hard time. A buddy of mine modified his stock pipes. Sure they were louder (not too loud). They had a deeper throaty sound however they had that cheap sound to them. He keeps offering to do the mod for me but I just don't like the sound. HELP!!!!!!!!!! My dealer suggested Bubs and (i think) Fat Boys. Again, I am looking for a good quality, deep throaty sound, not too loud while cruising. By the way, I have K&N air filters already. Will I have to re-jet if I put aftermarket pipes on? I know when I did the K&N filters and pipes on my Roadstar, it had to be re-jeted. Thanks. Any sound files would be greatly appreciated which you can email me.
  9. Howdy all: I'm a whiz at putting 2 and 2 together and getting 22. So please confirm for me what seems obvious and I'm likely getting hysterically wrong. Want to replace the stock exhaust on an '08 RSTD...and after much research had just about concluded to do this with a set of RK muffs. Acquired the necessary brackets and VTwin clamp, and have a set of '03 vintage RK pipes on the way. Still a little confused about half-specific comments about punching out a plug on one of the two pipes (which one? what plug? does 'punch out' mean knock out completely or just radicaly perforate? etc). But that's not actually my main question. Have to admit that the pipes I REALLY would like to mount are a pricey bit of kit...the Vance and Hines Monster Ovals that are made for the HD Touring bikes, including the Road King. Given that these have a street price north of $550 a set, I'm reconciled to waiting a bit to fluff the bank account a bit before pursuing. Help me out here: If the stock RK pipes will fit on the RSTD... And the V&H pipes are a slip-on fitment for the RK... Does this mean that I will be able to mount these muffs on the RSTD, using the same brackets/clamps as for the OEM Harley muffs? Any special considerations (as apparently arise for mounting Screeming Chicken cans)? By the way, yes I've considered just mounting aftermarket slip-ons already configured for the Venture/RSTD, but have to say that I'm just not that jazzed about any of the makes available (Bubs, KW, 4-2-4s, etc)....But the MO's have tickled the lust button. Muchas Gracias, amigos
  10. Hello Everyone: Forecast in Western Nebraska today is calling for 40 degrees and some light snow possible. Now that the Holidays are over, I have the urge to work on my bike some. I have a Carbon One horn bracket/harness and Stebel horn to install as well as a set of Bub pipes. Hoping to get to them this weekend!!!
  11. I just traded a VTX 1300 for a 2006 Midnight Venture and this bike is awesome! The bike has bub slip-on but the previous owner removed the baffles and it is a little loud, for me anyway. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction! Maybe if someone has baffles that are not being used or I would be willing to trade these slip-ons for factory pipes... any sollutions would be greatly appreciated! The chrome on the tips are flaking off, fyi. I live in the Fort Worth, Tx area. Thanks.
  12. Well here comes another thread about mufflers. I have been experimenting with different mufflers on my 2006 RSMTD. I bought a set of HD mufflers here on the site. Got them & installed them on the bike. I liked the sound, but it wasn't as loud as I really wanted. So I read about all the mods that have been mentioned & tried here on many threads & posts. I considered all of them & decided I didn't want to mutilate what the factory had built as the best engineering possible at the time. So I found another set of slip-ons here on the site, (Thanks, Doug!! ). They are Rush slash cuts. I got them about 2 weeks ago & have been so busy I didn't get them put on until today. WELL, let me tell you these pipes are EXACTLY the sound I was wanting. They remind me of my first pickup with a V-8 motor, (1963) I put dual glass-packs on. Great sound on acceleration & not too loud just going down the road. If you want them to be quiet just back out of the throttle, & if you want some noise just give her the gas & let it wrap. Well anyway I am REALLY happy with the new pipes & will put the HD pipes on my 2000 RSV MM. They will be just right for the RSV that my wife & I ride 2 up. She's not in to the noise. Thanks for all the info I have found here including the drawings for the adapter plate for the HD mufflers & the whereabouts of the HD muffler clamps. C Ya, Patrolman46
  13. I have the royal start tour clasic which has the 4 exhaust pipes. I have been pndering trying to chage them out for the 2 pipes. one on each side. The reason I have been thinking about this is that my bags are pretty small in comparisson and would like to get larger hard bags. Any IDEARRRRRS!!!
  14. Steel Horse Cowboy is looking for a set of Roadhouse slip on 2 into 1 pipes for his 1999 Royal Star Venture. I have checked a few places and have come up with nothing so far. I would appreciate any help finding these. Thank You ..... C.R here is the Thread I started back in 2008. I did get them from Dennis Kirk. http://venturerider.org/forum/search.php?searchid=2399498&pp=25&page=3 It might be possible that they do not make them for your bike anymore. I am still looking though. My pipes came with the slash cut tips. I turned them to point down. Fuzzy
  15. I just put some nasty boys on the venture Sunday. I rode it to work and back home, about 27 miles each way. When I got home I let it idol in the drive while I waited on my daughter. Well I noticed the coolant on the ground maybe about a couple of ounces not much but like she was running a little hot any ideas? The pipes had the baffles taken out when I bought them used. They. Sound great and she seems to run better just need the carbs synched. Thanks for any ideas
  16. I am looking at buying some cobra pipes for my bike, but would like to know if anyone in the area may be able to look at them for me, and possibly hold them if I buy them until I get there??
  17. Today while making a pass at wide open throttle (Not sure what gear but probably 3rd) I noticed the bike starting to miss or cut out just like I was hitting the rev limiter, but I know I wasn't even getting close. So when I had the chance I tried it again but this time from a dead stop and it did the same thing again in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. A friend following said the pipes were blowing black smoke and we could smell it. Now I normally am a pretty conservative rider so this may have been coming on for a while and I just didn't notice it till now. Even today the bike ran fine other than this WOT thing. It's an '06 (just out of warranty of course) and it's got just under 50,000 miles. It starts and idles fine. I'm thinking possible fuel pump problem but the pipes are really black and sooty so maybe plugs breaking down or some other electrical issue? Any ideas?
  18. I am considering a set of Khrome Werks pipes for my '08 Venture. Any opinions and/or advice on who may have the best price on them? Thanks
  19. I have a 2008 RSV. There is a local guy selling Screamimg Eagle Mufflers off a 2008 HD Dyna Superglide in like new condition for $100.00 bucks. I would sure like a louder set of pipes to put on when I ride with my HD Buds. Does anyone know if these will slip on without any mods? Thanks. Steve
  20. Hey guys and girls I recently replaced my full exhaust sytem on my Royal Star Venture (I picked up a full system on ebay for 189dollars which is amazing) My old muffler pipes were rotting inside so I had to change them. The only prob I have is that the pipes are LOUD! Not harley loud but louder than what I would like. They are original Yamaha pipes but the mufflers are aftermarket Baron Pipes with the clamp(I think) Does anyone know of a way to quieten them down, I don't live in an estate so no neighbours but I'm heading to France and Spain this year and I heard they crack down on loud pipes. They have a baffle but it's not great...I think they sound great but that's another matter altogether... Does anyone here have baron pipes? If so, any suggestions on quitening them down! Thanks
  21. my wife likes the loud exhaust. used to have a 1500 suzuki intruder with shotgun drag pipes on it. the wife would like the venture to sound similar. any suggestions?
  22. Newbie here... I just bought an '07 RSTD and LOVE it!!!! In the past i have had a couple of Shadows and, most recently a Vulcan Classic. All were great bikes but vibrated too much for the Mrs to ride with me (arthritis in the hips). I bought the RSTD as i had heard that the vibration was minimal with the V4. Personally, I don't feel much but she still does. I've been reading here about the carb sync and I'm planning to do that but I'm wondering if the pipes have anything to do with it. It came with BUBs. Would stock pipes be smoother (albeit, quieter)? Thanks for any help and, sorry for the rambling!!!
  23. Hey everyone, I posted here last week regarding exhaust problems. Basically, due to the lack of Ventures in Ireland, it's proving a headache. The pipes on my 2001 RSV are corroding badly (underneath only, chrome is fine). The mufflers are rotting away from the main pipe and I'm getting barking noises and losing pressure. I wanted to replace the whole exhaust system but Yamaha Europe are quoting me Eur3,500 to replace the full system! I was dealing with WestendMotorsports in the states and they said that the "Bub 4 into 2" system is an option BUT the end tips are currently being redesigned because of blistering. This could take forever and with alot of touring this Summer planned, I need the pipes fixed. Has anyone you know ever replace their full pipes? With the Venture, it doesn't seem that easy. I heard certain Harley pipes fit the Venture? Ebay have two or three exhausts for the RSV but I don't want to be stuck with something that will let me down in three months. Any help would be great. Thanks
  24. Hi all I'm just new to the site and have just posted an introduction. I am from Ireland and I drive a Royal Star Venture 2001 1300TF and LOVE it! There are not many here so parts are hard to come by. I am currently looking for a new full exhaust system, not slip ons. My pipes underneath are corroding and although there is only 35,000km on the clock, I would like to keep the bike alot longer. I was quoted by Yamaha Europe for a brand new set of OEM pipes at 2,800dollars. It's crazy money, can anyone recommend a full exhaust system for my model that they know will definitely fit. I really can't afford $2,800 (€2,000) but I don't want to lose the bike. The bike is running great other than a rattling exhaust..Please help! thanks for the time. Gar
  25. Finally took the trailer out for the first time..I notice there is more noise from the exhaust bouncing back off of the trailer. I expected that. But the wife and I also noticed that we could smell the exhaust more. It's hard to tell in the photo but it looks like the exhaust exists the pipes below the trailer so I thought the smell would go right back under the trailer. I wouldn't mind except I'm a little concerned about breathing too much of it in if we get stuck in stop and go traffic...should I be worried or is it fine? Is there an alternative? I see these aren't the stock pipes. Would it help if they were stock? Are the pipes or sleeves you slip on the ends of the pipes that curve outward so the exhaust is shot out to the side instead of the back? And if so, would that help anything? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm new to pulling a trailer on the bike...
