  1. I bought a lift adapter from Carbon_One in September. I did not try to use it until December. When I attempted to put the pin through, it would not go. The pin would only cover half the hole. Has anyone else had this problem??? Yes, I had it facing in the right direction.... Now I have a lift adapter that I cannot use...
  2. Winnners of the auctions this time around are; Hat and Pin...........Eddie..........26.00 Shirt and Hat........Ozark..........31.00 Shirt and Pin.........IH Truck Guy..46.00 Lic. Plate Holder.....Painterman67...28.00 Thanks for helping the Kids at St. Jude........its going to be a good year for them. More auctions will be posted tomorrow........ Thanks.
  3. The time has come to start the auction for the St. Jude, hats, t-shirts, pins, and license plate holders. These listings will last for 15 days. High bidder at the end of the auction will win their item. I have many more of these items to post up for auction, so dont dispair if you dont win this one, there will be other put up as soon as these are over. I have attached pics here of all the items.....the pin is identical to the logo on the t-shirt (I could not get a good closeup of the pin, that is the reason it looks like the tshirt.) You can follow this link right to the auction items.....Happy Bidding......... St. Jude Auctions
  4. All - had a cylinder (#4) that wasn't getting any spark, after getting good tests at the TCI for ignition and pickup coils, I thought the culprit might be the spark plug wire/boot. I pulled the retaining screw out of the boot and cleaned it, the spring, and the thrust plate. The 10k resistor measures 9.3k, within 10% tolerance. What's troubling me is I am not getting any connection between the pin on one end of the boot that slides into the spark plug wire and the retaining screw. Even when I strip all the pieces out and probe deep into the boot to make a connection with the pin, no luck. Thinking to test my theory of a bad boot out on another boot, I stripped one that I knew was good. Once again, no connection between the retaining screw and the pin. Does this make sense? Also, as I reassemble the boot, I believe the parts go in: 1) spring 2) thrust washer 3) resistor 4) screw Appreciate any help - thanks!
  5. I don't know how everyone else's clutch is, but on my Venture, there has always been a fair bit of lever movement to operate the clutch, I have had to top up the cylinder periodically (though it had never become any worse) since buying it eleven years ago and it has been prone to getting bubbles in the line. A couple of months ago I was greasing the pin and checking it for wear when I noticed that the pin (asymmetrical with a shoulder/seal part way down) could be replaced the other way round, thus giving the piston much more movement. Like this the clutch was much better, but it did weep brake fluid. Not drastically, but a couple of months and 4,000 miles later (we did a long Summer trip) the clutch master cylinder was empty. If it gets no worse I'm tempted to keep it as it is, but I'm looking for a rebuild kit. Has anyone else had any reason to play with these ?
  6. I tried to e-mail Frogman about this but I don't think it went so I'll try this route. Wed. morning my 93 VR didn't won't to start. I put about 3/4 choke turn on ign. and hit the start like always. In only a few seconds I smelled fuel like it was flooded. I shut off the chock held throttle wide open and hit start after about 15-20 sec. it fired ,I applied choke and it idled just fine. rode it the 23 mi. to work. That afternoon it fired right up and I rode her home. Thurs. Morn. no start. tried same tech. but no go. Got home started testing and found I have no spark to any plug wire. Came to the great VR web site and found Frogmans post about the TCI.(oh yea I tested the coil plugs and found I had no voltage going to the coils). Here's my problem. My 6 pin connector to the TCI has different color wires than the post describes. I have black/red, Black, orange, black/yellow,blue/red, and black/white. I have good ground to chassis. The black/white checks like frogman describes. The blue/red has 98.2 ohms to battery ground wire. The rest have no connection to battery grd. My 8 pin connector has 6 wires to it.It has 3.7 ohms to battery pos. with switch on, on the orange, gray, yellow, and white wires( about what frogman says). I have a red/blue and a black with .9 ohms to battery pos. with switch on. This .9 is probably 0 just not making good enough contact. So I think my problem lies in the black wire on the 6 pin, it reads out of limits to battery ground. I trace it along with the orange in the 6 pin all the way through a 2pin connector to the stator housing in left side crank case cover. I removed the cover and I can ohm out the wires all the way from TCI plug to where they go into the pick up coil. I cannot get any reading on either wire to the pick up coil bracket or the exposed metal sensor on the face of the pick up. ( I would think you would get some kind of reading from the wires to something there) I've cleaned several connectors but all looked good. I have yet to find the 5 pin connector under or below the front of the seat. From what I gather from all this my pick up coil is bad. It's $307!!! but hey if I need it I need it.( ridiculous price for that) I just need to see what you all have to say. This is almost over my head but I can generally figure things out. If it's not the pick up then I'm at a loss. Any ideas or experience you all have is greatly appreciated. Dan (shadow) Joyner.:bang head::bowdown: 's
  7. This is probably not the right place to post this but I am not sure where it would best fit......So here it goes... I have a friend who decided to mix brands (bad idea). Anyhow, he ended up with a Starcom integrator and 5 pin mini-din headsets , a Zumo550 and a J&M 2003 CB . All great components BUT!...... The J&M has 6 pin dins and requires amplified mike..... His headsets are dynamic mini 5pin Dins. What's needed is a transition adaptor!!! Both manufacturers are less than helpfull....Do any of you have experience with this or a source?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  8. My '89 VR & trailer have matching 5 pin square connectors for the trailer wiring. My '06 RSV also came with a 5 pin square connector. The problem is the '06 RSV & trailer are both male plugs. So I thought I'd just buy a new set & replace the male plug on the RSV with a female plug, like the VR has, and then the trailer would work on either bike. But where the heck do you find these plugs? I've looked at all the auto parts stores & on the net and can't find them anywhere. Can't find something on the internet...?...what's up with that?! I could go with a 6 pin and just not use the last pin (trailer brakes), but then I'd probably have to swap out 3 sets of plugs to get everything to be able to connect together. But after searching with no luck I'm starting to think I should do just that...for some reason the 5 pin square plugs seem to be top secret or something! Anyone know where I can find them?
  9. Is the standard hook up for the CB a 5 pin? I heard something about a different 5 pin configuration that does not fit the Yamaha. Any info would be appreciated.
  10. I am sure that you veterans here have heard this question many times, however here it comes again. I just purchased a 2005 RSV and do not have the Intercom cables (the extensions). My question is does any 5 pin work? And what are some reasoniable priced headphones w/mics? Thanks And let me say I really enjoy this site and looking forward to meeting you guys out there. Thanks
  11. Anybody going to Spring Fling in Pigeon Forge this weekend? I'm thinking about having my bike pin striped. I have the 2007 Raven or blue/black RSV. Any suggestions on what colors for the pin stripes. I'm thinking about light blue/gold/red???? Eddie:confused24:
  12. I have an old Motocomm headset that I used on my V-star connected to a small CB. Does anyone know if I can get an interface connection cable to hook up between that and the 5 pin Yamaha connector? I will eventually go for a J&M set but for now I'd like to use the existing headset I have. Any info is appreciated.

    vest pin

We have been purchasing pins or stickers on our destination trips. One of my wifes has had the pin break flush with the back of it. Anyone have a sure fire way of reattaching it? It can't be heated or it will ruin it. Ice & Boredom.
  14. Today I had to put one of the pins back in my shift drum again. This is the third time in as many weeks. This time the metal tab that bends over the pin broke off, So i welded the pin to the plate, ruined it for future repairs; but it works for now. (every shop needs a small mig welder). I think that when i miss third and land in second gear it is some how causing pressure enough on the shift drum to push the pin out, I don't understand this happening; but something is doing it and it is always after landing in second. it could be that it has something to do with the shift lever being out of adjustment ( heel to toe shifter) causing me to land in second. All this aside, it's time to do a second gear job and a shift drum repair. I have aquired a donor bike/motor so i will be pulling the tranny from it as soon as i finish anpther job i'm doing so it may be a week or so. I plan to make repairs along the line of the repair that randy has made to his. So Randy I'm looking for all the info you have. I am posting a picture of the tranny for reference, If i am understanding your previous posts. The location i will be working on is shaft #1 and gear set #5 which is the second gear pinion. Is #10 the washer you fliped over ? and tell me again about how you cut the dogs on the side of the gear. I think you said that you cleaned up the wear by flatening out the wear on the end of the post which caused a little slack in the gear set but wasen't enough to really notice. then you cut out .020 from the dog, my question here is how did you shape the dog. Is it a slope with the .020at the base, or is it more of a hook or notch shape?
  15. I apologize if this has all been covered before. I have partial answers but not the whole thing... I have an XM and a Garmin (I know - should've had the Zumo with the built in XM - but the Nuvi 350 was free). I would like to run the audio from the XM through the aux on the back of the cassette. I think I can handle that part. My tunes would then play through the dash. Ideally, I would like to run the audio from the Garmin through the 5 pin headset line. How can I tap into that? Lastly, what is a tidy way of running switched power to both of these devices? Thank you in advance!
  16. I finally purchased a trailer this weekend:dancefool:. I am having it painted to match the 06 Black Cherry, I would also like to have the pin striping put on it too. Does any of you fine group of folks know were I can get the pin striping part # from or the equivilent? Regards Keith.
  17. I took my ignition out to let the local dealer rekey the lock. I got it back today and went to install it over lunch and got a big surprise the ignition no longer works. I figure I had to have screwed somthing up so I got some picts and am asking for help. Pict 1 is the contacts that the ignition is supposed to set up against. Pict 2 is the way "I Think" the washer/contact plate is supposed to go in. My issue is that the little pin that the arrow is pointing to looks like it is supposed to make contact with the inner set of contacts on pict 1 but the pin does not stick out far enough to make contact. What am I doing wrong:confused24: I am stuck. ANY insight would be helpful.
  18. Over time I have heard many folks talk of Instrument panel lights going out or going Dim . And Tachometer not working at same time. Some say the Side Stand switch has something to do with it. I'm trying to track this down on the schematic, but have not figured that out as yet. The Schematic, only shows, Ground Symbols for the light sockets, and does not show where the ground connections are actually made to the frame of the bike or in the wireing harness. I decided to dig into this, and find the Actual ground connections. I have a junk Inst Panel, and Wireing Harness I use for parts. Here is what I found . 1. On the Instrument Panel, there are ( 8 ) black ground wires, comeing from the various light bulb sockets . They are all connected together thru a series of three splices, and then one wire goes to Pin 5 of the Nine Pin White connector ( the female plug ) located 8 inches to the left of top center of the instrument panel ( your right looking thru head light area ) 2. The black wire comeing from pin 5 then runs into the wireing harness. I opened up the Old harness, and followed this wire, it goes thru "" Three""" more Crimped, and taped splices, and eventually gets to a ground stud, near the left side of the battery. 3. If you are missing a ground to the light bulbs, ( On the Inst Panel ) or have a High Resitance ground to them, what would be AN EASY AND FAST FIX ????? See, my photo, showing the Black wire from pin 5 of the "Male" side of the plug. The wire in question laying across palm of my hand. Seems to me, you could Cut, the wire here, and splice in a chunk of about # 16 or #18 stranded wire, and run this wire to a Convient Ground point somplace in the forward fairing area. This would insure that all the bulbs in the Panel Now have a good ground. Also, just pulling this connector apart, and useing some contact cleaner on it would be a good place to start. I am open to any and all comments, or corrections. GeorgeS
  19. I just finish adding a trunk lid spoiler to my RSV, the installation went smoothly and I am happy as this is adding a lot of visibility to my motorcycle. The installation is straight forward but I would caution you not to follow the connection instructions, they say to open the connector and insert the wires into the female part and then put it back together. This is very risky for short and for connector damage, I would suggest removing the pins and soldering the wires on the pin then reinsert the pin in the proper slot.(see pictures)
  20. Hi Everyone, Just bought a new 07 RSV and will take delivery in April. A question I have is with the Helmet Headsets. We wear open face helmets and I am looking for a good/excellent quality set. Also need to know what pin set it is? 8 Pin? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
  21. This diagram is in regards to the Yamaha Venture. It may or may not be applicable to other motorcycles. I believe it will also work for the Goldwing though. http://www.venturerider.org/headsets/index_files/headsetpins.jpe
