  1. Here are some pitures of the light bars I made for my venture. I used 18 ga. 304 brushed stainless steel sheared, bent and trimmed to fit. The lights have a solid chrome look when off and a 3d LED look when on about a7 hr job start to finish. Also a 2003 starlight trailer I picked up for $250 to day.It has a little road rash but some fiberglass, new LED light and Pearl white paint will be good as new.
  2. Did a ride to raise money for a local air ambulance organizaiton yesterday and I was surprised, as I often am, that I was the only Venture out of 100 bikes! Anyways, when they were drawing door prizes they hadn't picked any of my numbers but then the emcee stands up and says "we're not even going to draw this one, it goes to whoever rides a Yamaha Venture!". Sweet, got some free saddlebag liners!
  3. Well, I finally did it. We had the annual Croftonbrook ( housing for low income seniors) BBQ today. It is 110 degrees F in the shade today. After hauling chairs etc I took the truck home and went back on the bike. The only place to park was on a grassy slope which was actually very dry straw. As you guessed my foot went out and the bike veerrry sloooowly went over. No hope of stopping it. Only damage was to my ego. I picked it up but not before about 130 people, almost all of whom know me, pointed out my goof. Later that night got a call, some friends for Australia are arriving tomorrow, with several of their friends, 8 in all, for the night. Janet says she is moving out and may come back next week.
  4. well the rally is a liittle over a week away, and i think we got all are apples in one basket. lots of folks coming, lots of plans for a good time, lots of good food, good rides, vendors, great place and hosts at the hub where we are having it. alot of folks are coming that haven't registered, and that is okay. we got you covered. i sure was lucky to have the folks that i picked for my committee. i lucked out and got some keepers. cindy has gone out of her way, and worked very hard on this meet. she makes me feel like i did'nt do anything. thats why i picked her. i want to thank all the folks on the committee and the ones that had to leave because other commitments arose, the moderators , who gave great input. and don for keeping us all out of trouble. by the way don was the one who came up with the design for the awesome t-shirts and patches. rose bud donated the use of the machine to make the name buttons. see you all there and i hope we put a good one together for you. we did our absolute best. see you all at the hub. snarley bill
  5. Just got her home.
  6. Decided to take a week off and take my little guy Josh to the beach. This is my first official trip on my new to me kawasaki voyager that I bought from wanderer.I ordered the hitch and the modulite and had them before I picked up the bike so I guess that would be my first mod on the bike.Took a few pics enjoy!
  7. Son stopped by with help while I was at work. Picked up bikes and placed them back on center stands. Two of my Ventures had been sitting in the drive under covers when wind picked them up and stacked them on top of my 750 Maxium. Both of the Ventures had the rear wheel off at the time. Anyway he sat them up to surprise Dad. Before I got home "Ugly" took a nose dive off center stand for some reason into "Parts Bike" Yeah I got a surprise when I got home. Something keeps telling me the Warden says. :crying:
  8. I have decided to let my 1 gen, go. I don't ride long distances as much these days and so I picked up a couple of sport touring bikes. There is a lot of work into this bike to make it nice and trouble free. Some of the parts on the bike I picked up from Condor here on the boards. I'm sure you can ask him about the condition of the bike and what he thinks as he has seen it threw out my building it. I got the 88 1300 motor from him. I can pull the auction when I want............ Here's the link to ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Yamaha-84-Venture-Royal-Star-1200-1300-motor_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ39Q3a1Q7c66Q3a4Q7c65Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem200269707427QQitemZ200269707427 Asking 3200.00 Kurt
  9. well i have really tried to pick this scoot to pieces. only two complaints, biggest is i need more time to ride it, and rough front suspension. i plan on fixing those two. it is the ultimate do it all road bike bar none. i tried to hate it, just won't happen. not prejudist cuz i own one, just can't lie about it. honda did good. i picked at it and it just keeps fighting me back and doing everything absolutly perfect, so i guess i have to throw in the towel and love it. what a machine. let the bashing begin. bill
  10. I just picked up a Venture CB with the splitter. Hope I did not make a mistake. What else will I need to complete this. It is just the CB and the splitter.
  11. Just thought I would let you know that Alice and I went to Hot Springs last week and got married. We stayed at the Williams House Bed and Breakfast and she furnished our wedding arrangements. Cathy was the owner and she was a terrific hostess. We got married Aug 1 at 9 a.m. I told Cathy about the VentureRiders and she said if any of you wanted to come and stay, she would give a 10% discount on the room, Monday thru Thursday. She said she couldn't give the discount on the weekends. It is a beautiful home that was built in 1890 and it is full of antiques. We stuck our neck out, after I had talked to her on the phone, and i can honestly say, I don't think we could've picked a better place. Cathy said you might have to remind her who the Ventureriders are, since she doesn't ride bikes, and if that don't work, just mention Mike and Alice, surely she will remember us LOL!! I picked at her the whole time we were there.
  12. Let me start by saying I HATE GRAVEL. I get pretty uneasy when I have to go on gravel. Last Sunday I, along with others, pulled into a golf course in Alder Flats in Alberta. The drive enterance and lot was gravel. A thick bed of gravel with everything from fine stuff to little rocks around 1 inch. I took my time and was only doing about 10km per hour. There was a couple bikes ahead of me and one moved over in my path while in a slight left turn. No big deal as I had enough room however I touched the back brake. Because of the gravel, it didn't take much for the back wheel to lock and started to slide out to the right. I countered and then my hand hit the throttle boss. Well that bike went to the left real fast and threw me down. Broke right ankle and a cracked rib. Because of embarrasment and the adrenalyn rush, I actually got up and picked the bike up. After that, I don't think I missed out on any swear words in the adult dictionary. Anyway, the only damage is a scratched up lower cowling on the right side and could see at least one broken plastic piece where it screws onto the bike. I need a new one or at least one in very good shape as the bike is still new (crying now). As it states in my sig, the bike is a 2007, blue in color. Does anyone have one? Where can I find one? Anyone have any links? I have googled and checked ebay with no luck. Any and all help and or suggestions would be appreciated very much. Thanks P.S. This really sucks.
  13. Well picked up my new Truck on Friday and got close to match my RSV. All looks good to me what you all think?
  14. I'm pretty sure i just good a pretty deal on a 1990 venture royal. So far the only things i've found wrong is a wobble in the front if you don't have a firm grip on the bars, I'm guessing some sort of bearings in the forks or steering for that and it needs new tires. I'm planning to ride it alot in fact I've put 800mi on since i picked it up saturday, but it kinda sounds like the dunlop e3 are a good bet for a good handling long lasting tire. thought get an opion from you guys
  15. i picked up my new ride yesterday . here are some photos of her http://image1.frappr.com/pix1/i/20080417/e/e/c/eec35ade3327f0f1846ba7bcaf7b3a2b0_medium.jpghttp://image1.frappr.com/pix1/i/20080417/9/d/7/9d7ac60da4fbff071f76f2393cda4a0f0_medium.jpg http://image1.frappr.com/pix1/i/20080417/2/b/2/2b28a762e4e6308d042592badb7895420_medium.jpghttp://image1.frappr.com/pix1/i/20080417/a/c/5/ac5547a9ab25f13a12c3a6604c79bb141_medium.jpghttp://image1.frappr.com/pix1/i/20080417/f/1/e/f1e2a7549e7aef47b0021b30d4a56b030_medium.jpghttp://image1.frappr.com/pix1/i/20080417/6/9/a/69a548bdc0fe43df55c0fbf88be5cc510_medium.jpg

  17. Had a problem with my car tire today. Picked up a machine screw... This should fix it up OK.
  18. Mechanic is taking the Beginner's Motorcycle Riding Class this weekend. I am proud of her even though it is raining cats and dogs today. The instructors said last night rain or shine, they ride. Took her some dry gloves and clothes at lunch time, she looked like a drowned rat even with all the rain gear. :rotf: You should see her hands too, all black because she mistakenly picked up my summer supposedly leather gloves. But being the good husband that I am, I went to the local bike shop and picked up waterproof gloves for her. She said that she has a new found respect for all of us that chauffer the passengers around.
  19. I've searched but to no avail to find a thread on how to set the cb radio on the first edition. Due to a small mishap ruining mine, I picked up a replacement from Buckeye Performance. I even went out and picked up a SWR meter. But exactly how does not go about matching a new antenna on the first edition, or for that matter any stock m/c cb radio. I am lost. I'm sure there is lots of expertise out there so please help. It won't be long before heading out on about a 1400 miles ride to Big Bend, Texas so I'd really like to be able communicate well. Thanks all.
  20. They picked a poor place for a Robbery! http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/02/28/biker.meeting/index.html
  21. I just picked up the 02 midnight venture i won on ebay. I am going to be needing couple of things 1 The chrome ring around the headlight And 2 The chrome whatchamacalit on the top of the fairing that covers the windshield bolts. I also could use the front outer fairing but I think I can fix mine so not as important If any one has either of these laying around let me know what you want for them. I also have a question I live at an altitude of 6500 feet, and when I rev the bike and let off I get a popping from the stock mufflers, do yall think I will need to get the carbs rejetted? Thanks guys, I have been reading this forum for a while and will soon be following some of the advice I have seen here.
  22. Reading the humor forum reminded me of this... One year a couple years after we were married and with infant twins at home, my wife said, "Don't get me anything for Christmas. We don't really have extra money right now." Well, I can't not get her anything so I figured I would get her several small items. I picked up several trinkets. I don't remember anything I got for her except for one item. I went into Bath and Body Works and picked up one of those $5 bars of soap. She likes the bubble bath thing. I figured a $5 bar of soap must be pretty good! Well, Christmas Eve and we're opening presents. I see her set this little box aside. I immediately started to sweat. Sure enough she saves it for last. She opens it slowly. "SOAP????!!!!" I said, "Hey you didn't want me to get you ANYTHING." She says again, "SOAP????" Never lived that one down. I did tell her to never again tell me not to buy her something! What is the worst gift you ever gave/received?
  23. My totaled '04 Midnight was hauled off by the salvage company yesterday and this afternoon I picked up my new'07 blue/black RSV from the dealer. It sure felt different on the 25 mile ride home. The engine is quieter, not the pipes, but the mechanical engine noise, even at idle. Absolutely no whine from the clutch basket. I had the "I" basket on the '04 and this one is quieter. The transmission seemed to shift a bit smoother. This evening I put the handlebar risers and highway pegs on and now it feels right. Tomorrow I'll work on getting all of my electrical accessories installed and should be ready nice long day ride by Sunday. Oh, and I know the rules, pics will follow tomorrow. Dennis
  24. We recently had to put down our horse due to advanced age. Wasn't sure if my wife would want another for awhile but we got a call from the New York Thoroughbred Rescue Association. They adopt out Thoroughbred horses whose careers are over and try to find them new homes. Well...him and Sam met and it was love at first sight. We picked him up last week and he's now settled in at his new home. He's a really sweet horse with few of the issues associated with the breed and he has great blood lines...here are some pics of his 'homecoming..... He's a little thin, but nothing we can't fix....
  25. infared thermometer and it's really cool. Point it at something you want to test for temp and it reads off the red laser dot. What this have to do with a motorcycle you ask? Well, I thought that I could check the temp of the exhaust headers to see if all the cylinders were firing equally. Could even find a dead or fouled plug if needed. Haven't tried it yet, but will the first chance I get. I picked up the unit from Harbor Freight a local discount tool store for about $21 bucks after a 15% discount coupon. It's fairly small and will fit right in with the rest of the things in the tool bag.
