  1. Writing the product description for the Royal Star Venture... How much do you suppose they pay the guy to write in a different color every year??
  2. While changing the fork seals on my 83 venture I noticed the air valve stem on the steering yoke is broke...... does anyone have one of these floating around will pay for it and shipping... thanks lee
  3. Anybody ever see this before? This is what we're up against when we're out there riding? http://www.dothetest.co.uk/
  4. Ok guys as a few know I finally had my shock blow..Just sitting in the garage overnight then next morning BIG oil spot directly under the shock. Anyway I loaded it up took to Yamaha to be told its on backorder and has been awhile. MAD..I was fuming when they leisurely said "we dont know when they will be released". That isnt good enough for me so I called Yamaha Corporate and TRIED to be civil and finally told them I was gonna get the works performance shock..I knew they would not pay for it...Guess what,at least They paid their cost on a new shock and had my dealer cut me a check for that amount..Not the best deal in the world but at least I didnt have to pay for the whole thing. I may could have pushed the issue but I NEED my bike and I feel I am getting a much better shock.....Now I have vented AND given credit to Yamaha. Tom....By the way, A BIG THANK YOU TO RICK AT BUCKEYE PERFORMANCE FOR HIS EFFORTS IN GETTING ME SETUP AND MAYBE HAVE IT IN 2 WEEKS...MAYBE. Tom
  5. I had Ventureline air wings on the bike and I took them all the way off because one of the plastic part of the wing was broken really bad. Just one of those will let me put them back on. Bakers wings are kind of high and I am not interested in their name on it. Not looking to get it for free, willing to pay for it. I have only ever seen them on ebay once and I was outbid. So, if you have an extra one and willing to part with it, please let me know.
  6. Question, Is the Ohio Turnpike toll-road the kind where you enter then pay at the exit or is it like Chicago where you have to stop every 5 miles or so and pay the toll?
  7. OK see if I can explain this. Some of you will remember my accident. End result is still haven't got settlement from the little Insurance he did have. Time is about to run out. My time frame expires June 14th they claim. 2 yrs from accident. Thing is no lawyer wants this. They say there is no money in it for them. I have gotten them to agree on the medical. They will pay full amount of their policy. And gotten the hospital down to pennies on the dollar. If I release them and the DRIVER from ANY other actions. Them I can understand but release him and he hits Powerball next week? They have not tried to make property settlement. I'm getting there with them but need time to work out kinks. Do I have to completely release him?? And I need to work on property. I want 4k for the "Blue Beast" She was famous wasn't she? And I want paid for all my gear that was cut off. Plus my helmet. I also lost 1500 hours of "Sick Leave" I had saved for Retirement trade. I think what I'm asking is, Do I have to release him completely and what do I have to do to get time extended quickly now. Just got my health Insurance ( which really took a hit on this to drop lein yesterday that would have taken almost all I could get. Now I've fooled around and got myself in bind trying to do this without lawyer. If I pay lawyer I won't come out with anything. Should I try to get it extended or grab what I can? And how do I get it extended??
  8. Is there a real simple way to order T-shirts? I went to the rally stuff site and all I got was a blank E-mail screen. Also, can we use PayPal to pay for the shirts and patches? Yah gotta make it easy for us ludites..... Thanks:15_8_211[1]:
  9. Please excuse me for saying , but sounds like we have crisis at the present time . Fund raisers ....raffles and all good deeds are great for the future , but the problem is now ! Everyone is saying they are willing to pay ....."well crap or get of the pot !" is what my grandpa used to tell me put in a nicer way . I know Don is doing the best he can , more panic over anything and he doesn't ask for anything or much at all . But it time for us that say they are willing to commit , then please do so . This our home , just need to pay the rent somewhat . i put this in its own thread because it needs to said and Beer said it perfect , Don is gonna to hate me and he has never ask us for a dime ! sometimes it feels so good to take a crap so everybody that can try it and see how goood it feels !!! i feel a lot better now that i did !!! thom
  10. ....a noise suppressor for my '86, seems the sterio wont work without it If any of you 1st genners have a spare one that works and you would like to get rid of, I would be happy to pay you a reasonable price for it
  11. I am in need of a 2nd generation (1999 to 2008) engine guard for the right side that is NOT bent (like mine!) without having to pay the new price. Any one have one available? You can send me private email or post here. Thanks!
  12. For what it's worth, I have recent first hand experience on how good my insurance was. By the way, I pay about $1000 a year for full coverage with $1000 deductible which I always thought was outrageous until I had to use it. So far I have had no out of pocket expenses that have not been covered by my insurance company. My hospital bill for 1 month in Akron Ohio was well over $300,000.00. This was totally covered through my out of province health care insurance which is separate from my bike insurance. The next two months in Canadian hospitals were covered through our provincial health plan. All of my rehab, including house keeping, snow removal, special bath room equipment etc. has been covered on the bike insurance. Leslie's funeral costs ($15K+) were covered through a combination of bike insurance and life insurance. I have not settled on the bike itself but from talks I've had with the adjuster, it sounds like the pay out on the bike will be fare. My point to all this is, make sure you have enough coverage. I had expenses for things I never even thought of, like $10,000 for a life flight. Also make sure your will and power of attorney for financial and medical are up to date. And make sure your executor and/or the person who has your power of attorney know your wishes and where your papers are kept. We all complain about the cost of insurance and we all look for the cheapest rate. All I'm saying is sometimes you get what you pay for. Think about it.
  13. Just curious, Does anyone use Geico ins.? State farm is hitting me up for about triple what I would pay @ Geico. Has anyone actually had a claim with Geico? Thanks, Gary
  14. Mamamo and I are taking a little sight seeing ride from our new property today. You might say were taking a weekend off. Sunny skies forecast for Saturday and were getting the ATV's out. From our new property we can ride for hours or days traveling dirt roads,trails,1 lane tar and chip pavement roads, crossing multiple counties. It's great to live in the mountain lakes region. Those Yamaha kodiaks will come to life for a little fun. I just enjoy a slow pace and enjoying nature. That root and bore mud slinging thing is for a younger generation.I didn't pay $12K for two four wheelers to tear them up horsing around. The spring flowers are blooming and ramps are coming up. It's hard to tell what we may get into. I got a few neighbors I might visit along the route and you never know we might spot a freshly planted ROSE BUSH!!!
  15. A very respectable man passed away today. Charlton Heston served the NRA for many years. I just wanted to pay respect to a man that influenced me greatly. He will be missed. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080406/ap_on_en_mo/obit_heston
  16. :confused24:Hi. Have read the headlight change in the tech deptarment, but when I tried to go to the coolbulb.com site, I get nothing. Has the site name changed?? Or am I just having a bad day? Appreciate your help as I have a broken headlight and WILL NOT pay the ridiculous price of having to change out the whole mechanism as Yamaha wants us to. Thanks in advance. Arnold
  17. ....don't pay me at all. I guess that's the thinking, anyway. I did some work for a local Venture owner (sad to say, a member on this forum, although I don't think he's ever posted here-he registered after I recommended the site to him) last summer. Let me start at the beginning. I am a professional mechanic for a living (not motorcycles) who also happens to be be a bike owner, rider and mechanic. I decided to open a little side biz working on bikes to earn a little cash on the side (mostly to support my bike hobby!) and invested in a Handy Lift and a lot of tools for my home shop. I took on a job on this guy's Venture with a whole laundry list of problems to fix. He dropped off the bike around the first of June last year with a $50.00 deposit for parts & whatnot. He knew up front I charged $40.00/hr, and as I worked off the problems I informed him as to what had been done, and what was left. He kept adding on things to fix as we went along. At the end of the first week I'd already used up the deposit money on fluids, parts, etc, and I called him up and informed him that I'd need more money if there were any more parts needed. I mentioned that the labor bill was starting to "get up there" (it was about $400.00 at that point) but he brushed it off and laughed...."I'm not worried about it" were his exact words.... Now I can see why. I carried on with the work, paring it down to a wiring nightmare issue somebody else had Frankensteined together, and an intermittant CLASS system problem that went from not working at all, to working most of the time. In the end, the bill was around $800.00. I had kept in touch via emails after the bill hit the $500.00 mark with no negative responses. About the third week of June he called saying he needed the bike for a weekend jaunt and wanted to pick it up Friday; he'd bring a check. OK, fine. But I wasn't going to be home; I was going to a car show. He asked if I'd leave the bike outside. No problem, I said. I'll leave the invoice on the instrument panel. Just leave the check in my mailbox. Well, you guessed it. No check. He'd respond to my emails alright, offering excuses and apologies, but nothing else. My last contact with him was a week before Christmas, hinting I could really use the money for the Holidays. More excuses, more apologies. But no money. The bill was almost $900.00 by hours worked. I'd knocked off over $200.00 due to the fact there was some head-scratching involved and that the CLASS system was still intermittant. The bill reflected this credit. Now, part of this is, naturally, my fault. I never should have released the bike without payment, "friend" or not. But I had more work coming in, no room to store the bike, and ........he was a "friend". Maybe he felt like he didn't need to pay me, as I was not a "professional" motorcycle mechanic? Maybe he had good intentions.....but we all know what the road to hell is paved with..... Maybe he thought that, as an acquaintance, I should sacrifice my family time for his hobby? Maybe he had no intention of paying the bill in the first place (as my wife believes) and played me for a sucker? I run a clean business. I email my customers with progress updates several times a week complete with photos and keep in phone contact. My invoices are detailed and professional. I guess the reason for this post is (1) to vent, and (2) to advise you guys out there to keep in touch with your mechanic, don't give carte blanche unless you intent to pay for it, and in the end, if you owe it, be a man, suck it up and pay it. I would've happily taken partial payments or made arrangements or even adjusted the bill if there was any dissention about any particular items. His silence on the matter indicates there was not. But to blow me off completely shows me there was really never any intention to pay up to begin with. (3) Your mechanic doesn't work on other people's bikes as a hobby or excuse to get away from his family. He's trading time he could be relaxing, spending time with family, or even working overtime at his "real" job. He's trading that, in the hopes you will play square with him and compensate him for the time he invested in YOUR hobby. Yeah, I know I could drag the guy into small claims, or begin and continue harrassing him with emails, letters or phone calls, or make threats. But that's just not my way of doing business. He has, however, lost a mechanic in the future, unless he squared up with interest and late fees, and paid for future work UP FRONT. So, guys, remember this when your favorite wrench asks for a deposit, or payment in full on delivery. He's not being a jerk. He's protecting his interests. Sad to say, out of all my customers, the Venture rider is the only one who stiffed me. I would appreciate any and all comments and opinions on this thread.
  18. Where is the best prices on the Bub's slip-ons. I heard a set on a Venture today and they sounded soooo much better than the stock. I just hate to pay $400.00 for a different sound. I probably will though. Thanks in advance, Eddie Flinchum:)
  19. Well yesterday was fun, NOT! Heard what sounded like I hit something then 10 miles later when I stopped for gas went around to check and left front flat as could be. Did something I have never done. Called someone to change it. Figured I have paid for 30 years, might as well let my insurance pay. I felt so guilty I ended up helping. At least it was a full size brand new spare. Was able to have the tire plugged, and my mechanic says it was in a good spot so should last.
  20. Hey Folks, We pretty much all know that my '99 is done for. I do not expect to get another G2 this year as I am going to pay debt down this year and my insurance money will pay off Credit cards. What I have is some custom items and aftermarket chrome from the '99. I'll post up some pics of what I have when I get back from the Chiropractor and we'll see if I can get some items to those of you that want them.
  21. My grips in the handle bar was removed.so i got a OG one its not original..but the thing is that i find very difficult to enter that grip into the handle bar.whats the problem with that..i know its not original..but that also i had to pay a very good amount...any suggestions would be appreciated...
  22. Came across this and since it's something that gets "under my skin" from time to time, thought I'd bring it up just to see what others do and think about it. http://travel.sympatico.msn.ca/Travelling+Heres+when+to+tip++and+how+much/TravelFeatures/ContentPosting.aspx?isfa=1&newsitemid=237015&feedname=TRANS-HOMEMAKERS&show=False&number=0&showbyline=True&subtitle=&detect=&abc=abc Personally, I believe in tipping when I get good service. I don't believe that I should tip "just because". People get hired to do a job at a specific rate of pay. "Just because" they work in a restaurant does not mean that they are entitled to a tip irregardless of how they go about serving me. At least around here, their rate of pay is about the same as people in other businesses...do they get a tip?... not...yet they may well still be in a service-related industry!
  23. Mine is working 10 hours a day, 5 days a week around the house with No Pay......:rotfl::rotfl:

    Looking for Freebird

First time for me to Post on this site. I've been in looking some but not to sure how it all works. I was looking at the Free Parts section and wanted to know if Kenny G's windshield was still avaliable? If so do you know what kind of shape it is in? If I want a free part do I just pay for shipping? Please help!!! Thanks, Barry
  25. 62 and want to retire? Just take out a Reverse Mortgage on your house.Buy a new scoot, travel, live it up and never have to pay back the loan in your lifetime. No credit checks either. After your gone the house is sold to pay back the loan. Talk about spending the kids inheritance. The sad thing is many will take this option when they find out it's the only way to afford retirement.
