  1. Another newbie question. There is a handle by the passenger seat, if I follow the cable it goes to the passenger backrest. What is this supposed to do? I pulled up on the lever and I think it is supposed to allow access to the rear compartment? Thanks in advance, Don
  2. For those who have the Drag Specialties driver's backrest on their MKI & MKII, do you still have room for the passenger? I put one on my MKI this winter and I sat on the back to see how much room there was for a passenger. It felt kind of tight. And I'm not a real big guy around the middle. A bit more that average, but not a lot. Plus my knees felt like they have to quite a ways apart to get around the supports. Anybody have them on their scoots and are able to have a passenger still ride with it in place? Thanks, Bill
  3. Would anyone know if a Venture rear passenger seat would fit my 07 RSTD? My wife says the seat I have is uncomfortable after about 40 minutes. I have the Ultimate seats...looking for a more comfortable rear seat. Any suggestions? Thanks Mark
  4. I was wondering if anyone installed heated grips for the passenger on the grab bars? is there any way of adding such a thing? when my wife and I ride colder days her hands get really cold and she ends up riding with snowmobile mittens, this eliminates her ability to grab anything. I figured that if I could give her a heated grip that would solve a lot of issues. Any ideas?
  5. Windscreen is too high...Need a replacement I don't have to look through. Was also concerned about buffeting for my passenger. Any thoughts?
  6. Well. I will reserve the details for now as I don't feel like typing it all out but the important parts are the passenger was sleeping and covered with a blanket upon impact so other than some minor blistering from the glass spray that occurred, we are both fine. Cannot get a windshield installed until Monday, at the earliest. Thanks to the local PD and FD for being very VERY helpful in all of this. I guess a little professional courtesy goes a long way... I'll update more info later, but I need to go eat and relax a little. As of right now I will be staying at a local hotel and am in the process of trying to setup a rental car until I can get a replacement windshield, etc. (Unfortunately since I am under 25 I will get nailed with the stupid underage fee too, but oh well). -- More to come. Rick M. EDIT: Here is a summary of what happend I was the driver of the 2005 Ford Escape at the time of the incident. S. bound I-69 Exit 26 (near freightliner dealership, just past off ramp but on overpass - etc. etc.) (~ 1500 hrs) After traffic cleared, I moved into left lane to overtake Dollar General Selmi-truck & trailer (unknown trailer plate number, tractor number, trailer number etc). Second vehicle moved in behind me, as I was passing the rear axels of the trailer I saw a chunk of, what I believe was ice, lift off of the top of the trailer (near the front most point of the trailer) appering to be the width of the trailer and at least roughly twice as long as it was wide (~8 ft x 16 ft) and tumble next to the trailer and collide with windshield of the 2005 Ford Escape that I was driving. When I observed the ice start to lift off of the truck I immediately moved as far left as I could safely do so and still maintain control of the vehicle and remain on the roadway. I was unable to reduce my speed due to the proximity of the vehicle behind me (make, model, driver, occupants unknown, and condition of that vehicle unknown). After the impact of the ice with the Escape and wen safe to do so, I proceeded to move into the right lane and on to the shoulder. After clearing the bridge I parked on the shoulder and proceeded to inspect the condition of the passenger. Anderson Fire department arrived on scene (~1510 hrs; within 10 minutes of parking on shoulder) in ambulance and continued examination of passenger. Anderson Police on scene within 5-10 minutes of Ambulance arrival. Officer took report. By ~1545 Escape was cleaned up enough and I proceeded to drive to Anderson Fire Department escorted by Ambulance, followed by APD vehicle and Fire Engine. Vehicle secured in Fire Station. Cleaned by myself and AFD while passenger proceeded to call insurance company and file claim. AFD assisted in attempting to schedule glass replacement same day. Were not able to secure a windshield replacement until Monday 11-Jan-2010. Etc.
  7. I was wondering if somebody had one and do you like it? Also, does the vent cut down passenger buffeting and does rain come through when it's closed?
  8. Here is something new coming out as a American V4 sport tourer. http://motusmotorcycles.com/statichome.html Looks like a little to much sport for me though. Its good to see an American product coming out but Id like a little more comfort though 2nd passenger also.
  9. what are the pressures that I should have in the front and rear shocks? Riding empty and alone and with a passenger?
  10. Here's the deal; I WANT to keep my stock seat on my 06 Venture but I WANT passenger armrests built into the passenger backrest. I have considered just ordering the passenger backrest from Corbin but am not sure how mismatched the two materials would look. Has anyone done this. I know Diamond R offers the bolt on's and while they are nice they are not what I'm looking for. I also E-mailed Mustang Seats to ask if they made anythig for the Venture, I got an Email back that said we do not and have no plans to in the future? What gives with that? As always thanks..
  11. I am looking for a passenger backrest from a 83-85 Venture. I do not need the trunk. I don't care what condition the leather or padding is in. I am going to discard this. I primarily need the plastic shell that leather is attached to . I have an idea to modify this to allow for speakers to be mounted into backrest similar to a HD Ultra Classic Electra Glide. I have an Amish leather shop nearby that has done work for me in the past that can do custum work. If you have one that I can get cheap please contact me. Dingy
  12. I have read the threads I could find so far.. but I notice a few have said theirs clicks when they hook up before their passenger. But once the passenger hooks up it goes away. That is my problem. And seeing I ride solo a fair amount but still want to be able to use the CB and my cell phone (through the Zumo) but the clicking is driving me crazy. Anyone come up with a easy solution to this? Or will I need to completely shield the cabling back to the passenger connection?
  13. On the way home from Vogel my rear seat cushion (seat) came off somewhere between the Florida line and Valdosta, GA. Does anyone out there have a passenger seat for a second gen? I need one. Ken:fingers-crossed-emo
  14. Got call last night from son that wife and sister was in accident. Got to hospital and was told she was fine but with multiple bumps ,bruises, seat belt rash etc, sister in law has dislocated ankle and arm is spattered with glass cuts etc.. Was hit on passenger front wheel by 17yr old running stop-sign then car came around and slammed passenger side in ,then pushed her sideways about 50-60 feet thru corn-field before stopping.Lucky we had side air-bags(Mitsubishi Outlander sport-utility) Saw it in the dark at impound so it was hard to see but passenger side is wiped out, will post pictures as soon as I can. Of course wife gave me heck for leaving work and wasn't going to call me at 9:00pm break to tell me to stay at work(accident around 4-5pm) Both women are pretty sore this morning and sister in law is hobbling around on crutches. Have to go to insurance for coverage and rental car etc. Kid was on gravel road and was only charged with failing to stop at sign with $150 fine and 3 points. Police said he tried to stop but brother in law said he only seen marks on pavement around impact site and not in gravel where they said. O-WELL what can you do they said he talked with Sargent and he agreed.(will see myself today)
  15. Does anyone have any suggestions for the passenger handgrips?? I am looking for something for the passenger to hang on to. I am changing seats to the Mustang, and the seat strap will be gone. Not that the existing seat strap is a great thing to hang onto. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My bike is a 2008 Royal Star tour deluxe.
  16. Riding in the hills of southern Ohio allowing the engine of hold/reduce speed on declines, exhaust fumes drawn to passenger area. Wife wearing 3/4 helmet with face shield, which undoubtedly accumulated fumes inside shield. Riding with a Clearview XXL windshield with vent open. I noticed some intermittent exhaust fumes, but did not suspect wife would be negatively impacted. Anyone have input to determine root cause and corrective action?
  17. I have a 87 VR and the female 5 pin plug for the passenger headset cord has gotten chewed up through overuse (abuse). The plastic is breaking up and the pins are hanging on,,,barely. I disssambled the rear sound control assembly box (on pasenger left hand side) and it looks like you should be able to wire in a replacement but the female end of the 5 pin plug looks like it is pressed into a metal flange that in turn is connected by two tiny Philip screws to a stamped metal plate. Even if you could even get an original, according to the Yamaha parts manual it looks like you would have to buy the whole module. So, if anyone has an rear assembly box for a First Gen at a reasonable price, please let me know - then I don't have to worry about trying to figure out an alternative. I have to think someone else has already had to contend with this already. Any advice or known solutions? Thanks and Happy 4th to our friends south of the border. Ron
  18. My wife has a short inseam and would be more comfortable with the flooboars raised. I searched and mostly found people looking to lower the boards. Has anyone sucessfuly raised the stock passenger floorboards. I don't think I want to mount aftermarket boards such as the barons.
  19. Just need to know were to look ,,driver's helmet connection is ok ,I can talk to my passenger ,use the CB and listen to music no prob .The passenger helmet ,my wife can hear me but can't use the mic I just changed her cable to helmet .I took the rear seat of and checked all the connections got them cleaned ans sealed them whit a shrink tube .now the only thing for me to do is to take the fairing a part , but I would like to know if there is anything else I need to check first.
  20. Several folks knew that I was buying the Motocom Riderlink intercom system and I promised a review after I had the chance to test it. All in all I would have to say that I am pleased with the system, even at highway speeds it works pretty well as it allows conversation between the driver and passenger with little effort. The product comes well packaged and has enough extra connections to allow a MP3 player, cell phone, GPS, and CB to be hooked up to the unit. The built in FM radio has some drawbacks, actually to be honest it's pretty much useless. Sound quality and reception are very poor. The biggest problem that I have run into is the adhesive that holds the Velcro to the helmet and to the mike boom will not work with many helmets. I and my spouse wear Fulmer helmets and the plastic located right behind the padding is very slick. I ended up using "Liquid Nails" to hold the small patch of Velcro to the inside of the helmet. The only additional thing I believe the manufacture could do is either boost the volume between the driver and passenger or add a volume control. In heavy traffic it was a little hard to hear the passenger but it was still acceptable. In stop and go traffic (common in the Seattle area) I open the helmet visor all the way for air and added volume would have been nice. If your looking for an inexpensive intercom system I would recommend this product, but shop around! Prices ranged from 149.00 to 225.00. At last check 6/13/09, CB world out of Oregon had 4 units remaining.
  21. In looking at the Kuryakyn website, I got to wondering about their #7916 "Metric" floorboards. Has anyone tried adapting these for use as passenger floorboards on a 1st gen?
  22. OK, my wife isn't too fond of the passenger pegs on my 84 VR and she'd like to have some passenger floorboards instead. Trouble is, there isn't a whole lot of them on Ebay at the moment. Is there another source for these other than Ebay?
  23. I have lost my passenger push to talk switch...It seems to me i remember a post on here that had a yamaha part number that some dealer had found for them .........The stealer is balking some about replacing the whole unit .....I would just as soon get a knob if one is aviable...
  24. The one thing I have learned since joining this web site is the amount of knowledge contained and shared by the members. I am in the market for an intercom system because I am tired of hollering and getting punched in the side, tapped on the helmet, and ignored when I have a question of my passenger. Here is a link to the unit I am considering. Any suggestions? BTW...I have read several links about the subject but I just want to be sure. http://www.wearecb.com/store/motorcycle-intercom-rf-limited-riderlink-st1-audio-system-p-3122.html
  25. Hi all: Is there anyone with the Diamond R Passenger Highway Pegs installed on their Second Gen Venture within 100 Miles of Virginia Beach? Honey would like to try them (maybe a short ride) prior to purchasing a set. Any help would be greatly appreciated .
