  1. Some bozo who couldn't look out for traffic as he backed out of his parking space hit my bike and knocked me over this afternoon. He cracked my trunk, scraped up my muffler and saddle bag guard, gouged my trunk and saddlebag real bad, busted the lower part of my fairing, and took some paint off the upper part of my fairing. All on the left side. I just got out of class with the guy not 10 minutes before it happened. Banged up his girlfriends car real bad too. Luckily nobody got hurt. Though I won't want to be him when his old lady finds out.:rotf:Anybody had any experience with the insurance companies with these bikes? It's an 84VR. Where do I find out what the fair value on it? My guess is that the insurance is gonna call it a total and I won't get anything near what its gonna cost for parts and a paint job. Anybody have any advice?

    Paint

I have a question on 2 part primer. How much catalyst do use per oz. of paint? I need to make small batches and could not find the answers on the manufacturers website. Thanks Rod
  3. I picked up my new 07 a few days ago. While I was doing a walk around on her I noticed a deep scratch in the middle of the lower cowlings. It went straight across both half's and was not there when I was looking at it on the showroom floor. Told the owner about it and man was he upset, his people (kids) did it when they put the bike on the stand to service it before pickup. Of course they didn't say anything to him when they did it, only admitted to it when he asked about it. So the cowlings are at the body shop being repainted. The owner said that I could do anything I wanted to them and he would foot the bill so I'm having the body shop spray rock guard on the bottom and then paint it black. The cowlings were all blue. I will post a picture when I get them back, which I hope is today because I want to go for a ride this weekend. I have all the acc. mounted that I have, I'm waiting for the truck rack, bag rails, stubel horn and grips to come in.
  4. Riding season is winding down for some of us. So lets hear it? Whats your winter project? I got a 86 to part out and a 99 to paint.
  5. I want to remove the warning decal off my gas tank. Looks like it's really on there. Anyone have a good suggestion on how to get it off without scratching the paint job? Thanks, Bob
  6. I have a '99 RSV. The paint is starting to show some age (I guess the previous owner didn't keep it waxed) so I am thinking of painting it. If I do paint it, I want to change the colors. Does anyone have pics of custom painted RSV's to help give me some ideas? I have some thoughts but most of them have come from custom painted HDs. I would not mind some average-joe mistaking my bike for a HD but I also want fellow RSV riders to recognize my bike as what it is. Just looking for Ideas,:lightbulb:I am not trying to copy anyone.
  7. Hey guys I am going to take on a few bikes this winter to paint and figured I would let you guys know first. Any member that wants some paintwork done will get 20%off my regular prices. Let me know as I am getting my schedule together for the next couple months. You can check out some examples of my work at www.bigheadguitars.com or at www.myspace.com/bigheadguitars or you can check some stuff out in my gallery as well. Here are a couple things I just finished up. One was a restoration job and the others were complet builds, but will give you a good idea of what I can do, check them out. Let me know and I will talk to you soon, Paul
  8. Just have the paint left I have paint for 2000 MM from colorrite.. 1 pint of base and color for both colors and clear and thinner. I paid 579.00 for it and will let it go for 225.00 Joe in NJ
  9. what is the whitest white paint you can get, plan to paint the voyager, teal blue is not my colore been home for three days now, already getting the urge to go,any idias
  10. I have a buddy of mine who bought a used '99 RSV. The previous owner had some custom stencil paint stuff done to it on the trunk, his and his wife's names, and since the new owner, my buddy, does not have the same names as the previuos owner, we need to take it off. The rumor, we read somewhere, is you can use easy-off oven stuff to remove the paint without hurting the original paint underneath. So is this true? Is there way? What other methods might work. Th trick here is to remove the newer paint and leave the original paint untouched and unharmed. Any ideas, suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.
  11. Hey folks, I got an 84 that came back from the shop today with carbs fixed. But now the steering berings are bad. I have decided to sell the bike as is or for parts. I have stripped the luggage off and started to prime for paint. The side fairings are off as well. The lower fairings are damaged. The front fairings (with some wear) are intact and on the bike. This bike now runs great and is mechanically sound but I can't afford to put any more into it. I was going to paint it but even that decision has changed. I will take offers for the bike as is and then if I don't get any for the bike I will start to part it out. It would be a great bike for someone who is mechaincally inclined and could do the work. I am not and don't have the patience or time. Please reply to this post or call me at 812-661-0108 and lets talk. I would love for somebody in this group to get her before I go EBAY. Derek
  12. who needs what , make me an offer and what ever you need. bike seems to be all there. paint is faded out .
  13. I don't mean to offend anyone who has a flame paint job on their bike but isn't anyone doing anything original? It seems like every othe bike out there has flames on it in one way, shape or form. I was just browsing through websites looking for custom paint ideas and almost all the paint jobs I saw, or at least 95% of them had flames. Why are flames so trendy? They look alright but if you are going to pay big $$$ for a custom bike, don't you want to make sure that it really stands out from the rest? I ride with a guy who paid $40k for a Screamin Eagle "custom" HD. I have seen 5 other guys riding the EXACT SAME BIKE in this area alone. Why pay the money for a "cookie cut" bike? And yes his bike too has flamed pinstriping. I guess I just don't get it.
  14. I recently removed the front "eyelashes" from the fairing on my RSV. Most people that have done this recomended WD-40 to get rid of the sticky residue. That didn't work. So I went and bought some Goo Gone. I applied it as the directions read and it did no good. Then I decided to apply it and leave it for a few hours and see if it would soak in. That didn't work. I have tried rubbing alcohol, windex, and even at risk of harming the paint I tried acetone. NOTHING IS WORKING! I sat with the fairing on the floor and rubbed until my fingers were raw and only got about an inch clean on one side. HHHEEEELLLLPPPP!!! Short of sanding the paint off, I cannot think of anything else to try. On a plus note the Goo Gone did take the road tar and bugs off the lower fairing. I guess it wans't a total loss.
  15. I am having my bike repainted. I want to paint the aluminum trim rings on my hard bags a contrasting reflective color. Can I prime them with the same primer as the rest of the boxes. Does this need to have a prep treatment before primer and paint? Derek
  16. Harbor Freight 40X48 trailer. I've made stake sides (with front and back) with rails for items that don't need to be protected from rain and for bulky stuff. They are removable so that I can pop on the enclosure I made today. It also fits into the stake holes where they are then secured by clevis pins with cotter pins on the back. Anyway....I've made the enclosure out of 1x2 and some 1x3's and 1/4 plywood(ish) stuff. It is reasonable light but in no way water tight. Even with paint I fear that there may be long term water issues. But maybe I'm wrong... Can I get by with primer and exterior grade paint? Is there any type of rubber or something that I can put on the top and front? It's gotta be easy to work with and not too thick. Ideas? I may end up putting diamond plate on the front but don't want to put it up top. I need to keep the weight down. As it is now I figure I've added about 40lbs with this enclosure. The trailer will be garaged when not in use but we get some fairly heavy downpours here in the tropics and I need to make sure the trailer and the stuff inside will hold up to it when I'm on the road with it.
  17. i purchased a primered spoiler and took my bike into a paint shop to get the correct formula for painting my spoiler. colorite could get the paint but at a rediculously expensive price. i had it painted and it matches great with the rest of the bike. should anyone be interested here is the formula, what these numbers mean i'm not sure but a paint/body shop should know 855j light red 30.9 866j red violet 58.1 4530s flop control agent 80.7 805j jet black 93.6 1002s red pearl 97.3 62320f binder 204.8 62330f balancer 221.5 i hope it helps anyone who needs this
  18. I have a two tone red 2000 Royal Star. According to the web site the colors are Imperial Red and Salsa Red. Does anyone know the paint codes for these paints. I have recently purchased a tow behind trailer and I want to color match it to the bike.
  19. I know that many of you had elected to do your own paint jobs, on your VR's, and I wish that I could do the same. I, however, do not have a heated garage and (during the off-season) I would really like to have my bike repainted. First off, I don't really like this 'off-pinkish & red (trunk & saddlebags) paint, and would like to have it painted black, with maybe some silver accents. To be honest, just having it painted a solid black would be fine. At some point, later on, I could probably do the accents myself. But I wondered if anyone here knew of a good place (somewhere near Amherst, NY) where I might be able to check out. Also a price for same, providing that information is also known. Thanks.

    paint

I have a gold and cream venture and trying to repaint but the cream is a tri-coat paint does anyone have a good paint code for the cream ?
  21. Hey all from the Vancouver / lower mainland area of BC... I'm looking for someone who has the facilites and/or equipment and/or experience to paint my 87 VR. I have a garage but don't have the appropriate compressor or spray gun. I also have the experience, having had a body shop many years ago. I want to paint my ride using 2-stage paint (base coat / clear coat). Is there anyone in my area that has his/her own equipment and/or facility who would be interested in either doing this job for me or allowing me to use/rent their equipment. I have all the plastic pieces off the bike and prepped. Just need to get them painted. The weather is gonna turn warm and sunny soon and I'm gettin itchy to ride.
  22. Does anyone know a fairly painless way to get that varnish-looking crud off of front forks, engine, trans, etc.? I was going to get to it last year, but every time I got the scoot out of the garage, I found myself miles away. It's too easy to put off a couple days of grunt-rubbing. Someone mentioned aluminum aircraft paint remover, but there are many places I can see but can't fit my hand in to rub. How to remove varnish..... & then, how to polish metal in nearly unreachable places ??
  23. Hey everyone as the weather starts to get cold I am in the process of getting ready to paint the bike. I just can't stand the factory paintjobs and being that I do custom airbrush and paint work I just feel like doing something wild. I was thinking of doing a tigerstripe paintjob with the base color being corvette yellow fading down into red down to a purple fade at the bottom. The center of the tank would be the center of the tiger stripes running down each side of the bike from there. The front fairing and trunk and bags would also be painted to match. It is either that or a tigerstripe with the yellow fading to white at the bottom. It is sort of hard to explain but and I am not sure how to post pics in this forum, so if you go to my website www.bigheadguitars.com and go into the custom shop on page 4 you will see examples of both paint jobs (just click on the picture for a bigger view). I was also thinking of adding some LED lights afterward to show off the paint. Let me know what you think. Paul
