1. NO,NO, it's not what you think it is!! Last week, I had some time to kill so I wrinkled the motor. I got some black wrinkle paint from AutoZone and went to work. I like the looks. The grey that it came through with just didn't do it for me. Brian

hey guys, i know this isn't really a VR.org topic, but i thought theres so many of you who are knowledgeable about things that possibly someone would have some advice for me: I bought a new house this may, and all the trim turned out to be clear cut red pine. it's awesome! the problem is, the previous owners have painted it several times, and removing that paint is taking FOREVER. methods i have used: Heat gun: effective vs multiple layers of paint, not so effective in the stain, very time consuming. Chemical stripper: effective on the stain, but leaves a weird residue afterwords, won't wash off with mineral spirits or stain prep liquids, i suspect i have some "milk paint" and that is the problem. Sandblaster: works GREAT... when the walnut isn't clogging the blaster. to aleviate the problem, i went to all 1/2 + sized fittings for the media, but it still clogs. anything bigger won't fit under the tank, so i think i'll be leaving that for resurfacing metals. Sanding: about as effective as the heat gun, but even more time consuming. Also doesn't want to remove the stain (it's really really sticky) any advice? i've heard great things about those infared paint removers, but i can't afford to buy one, and you basically have to buy one to rent one. thanks in advance, guys! - Jared
3. There's a few other threads on this ... just wanted to add more info in case anyone is looking to get some paint to match their scoot here in Canuck Land CMAX, a division of UAP-NAPA apparently does this. Here in Vancouver there is a location at 8555 Cambie St. The beauty of this is, they can scan your paint and match it. This is good especially for older paint jobs which have faded some. Here's a link... http://www.uapinc.com/client/en/pieces-auto/CMAX.html I haven't personally gone there yet or tried this but just thought it would be good info to share. Came across this in a newspaper article. The article went on to say that they can also provide the product in a spray can good for small areas or touch-ups. ___________________________________________________________________ · Article rank · 23 Jul 2009 · 24 Hours Vancouver · DAVE REDINGER NEIGHBOURHOOD MECHANIC It’s easy to match your car’s finish I have often said in this column that today’s cars are complicated and not easily repaired when things start to go sideways. This change in technology has vastly reduced the range of repairs the individual owner can do successfully. One area the owner can still address with relative ease is the car’s finish. Even though vehicle paints have gone high tech, there are services available to help to colour match your car’s finish. We use C MAX, a division of NAPA. The staff at C MAX will scan your paint sample, mix the appropriate match and supply you with an easyto-use spray can. We usually send a painted part of the car for a match; however the scanning equipment is portable and as such can scan the car wherever it is. Advantages of scanning your car with this system are obvious. Paint changes colour as it ages. This system matches the actual colour your car is now. After years of weathering and fading the original formula would no longer match. For more information, call C MAX at 905-602-9083.
4. I have an 08 RSV and was wondering if anyone ever had any success removing the tank bib that comes with the bike? I am getting a custom paint job done and would like to remove the bib. Any help or advice will be appreciated.
5. I broke the mounting tab under the gas cap door off so I need a new one. I would really like to find a black one so I don't have to paint it. If you have one let me know. Thanks.

7. Ok, I'm very busy today with questions. LOL. I'm thinking about giving my old girl a new paint job. She is warn and wheatherd. I don't have the money to pay someone to do it, so I think I'll try my hand. I'd like to get some opinions and advice as I move forward. Any good sites that would be helpful? What's the best paint to use? Can I get a "nice" finish with a rattle can? Just starting in the planning stages, but I love a new project. Thanks, to MarCarl my scoot is running GREAT! Attending MD was the best thing I could have done! But now I'd like her to "look" good too! Thanks~
8. Can anyone help re:1997 Royalstar Tour Classic paint codes, the codes are taken from under the seat on the frame above the tool kit. Alongside the white circle is the number 4YP1-030 Alongside the black circle is the letter B Do both these codes refer to the paint or something completely different. I need to source paint for the bike after cruising along the road without a bike (fell off) any help would be appreciated. Yorkshire Star.:guitarist 2:Rock an ride!
9. I Know you want to see the pictures. That will have to wait till tonight when I get her off the stand and pose her pretty but boy it is cool. I plan to show her next week for a charity Bike and Car show to benefit the family of a murdered Correction Officer so I am excited. Only waiting on one piece to complet it but as far as the paint and the graphics we are all good. Hope to get it outside to see her shine tonight but there may be rain. Anyway Ill post them soon!
10. There are very few options for matching factory colors on the RSV. ColorRite is the primary supplier for factory matched colors or you can have a paint shop do a custom mix. That is about it; I did find one other company that supposedly had matched colors, but I don't remember who they were, and there was something about what I read that made me wonder if it was really color matched. Anyway, when I needed to repair my saddlebag lid last year I decided to go with ColorRite rattle cans, both colorcoat and urethane clearcoat. At this point let me note that metallic paints are difficult to match perfectly, and any silver or yellow color is the most difficult of all to get a perfect match. ColorRite even warns that the 2005 Liquid Silver paint is "factory variance" color where they cannot guarantee the match. Despite that concern, the initial paint repair on just the front 1/3 of my right saddlebag lid was excellent. The amount of silver flake was perhaps just a tad greater in the new paint, but you had to look extremely close to see the transition. In retrospect I would do the entire lid instead of just the front 1/3 if I was doing it again, since I could not detect a difference in the paint from the lid to the body of the bag. Basically, I was very very happy with the quality of the paint repair on my 2005 Liquid Silver RSV from the ColorRite spray cans. But one year later my opinion is changing. The repaired area has significantly yellowed and now has a very distinct gold shine to it instead of the original silver. Very pretty, but NOT a match for my stock paint! I do not know if this yellowing would show up on other colors, but it sure does on the 05 Liquid Silver. Sooooo, if you need to repair the silver paint, I'd strongly suggest you find a paint shop that will do the job and guarantee the color will not shift after a year or two - the extra cost will probably be well worth it. 11. Just curious where I can get a decent paint colour sample of the 2006 Black Cherry ? I would like something that I can bring to a painter to match the paint. Brad
12. Here are a couple of pictures to hold me over until she is delivered to my garage tomorrow. the seat is not on and the lighting does not do the paint any justice (lighting) but I assure you that the paint match is dead nuts! These should hold me over for another 24 hours Jeff

14. Guys and gals. After having my bike for a couple of years, I tend to think that white is a bit boring. I'm thinking of spending a couple of grand to give it a completely new paint job. I have some ideas in mind but was wondering if anybody else has done something similar? Would love to see some photos if you have, or be directed to any other sites you may know of where the 2nd Gen is featured with radical (or otherwise) paint work. The 2 shots below show the original, and what it would look like all pink. (Amazing what a bit of Photoshop work will do you you!)
15. My Hannigan conversion is almost done. Just waiting on the painter, Should be finished with paint friday.
16. I just got my bike put back together after getting it painted. Man it looks good! A buddy of mine painted the tank, front fairing, front fender, lower fairings and saddlebag tops (I'm picking them up tomorrow). I bought this bike last spring - it was totaled. I replaced the whole front end and a few other parts. This paint job pretty much completes the restoration. Now if I could just keep the darn pollen off of it. Anyone in the Carolinas knows what I'm talking about...
17. Is there any chemical that will strip the paint off these old plastics and not harm the plastic its self? If not, I have years of sanding to do.....
18. Well i've finally made the decision to repaint my Venture. When I origionally thought of doing this, my father-in-law was going to loan me his garage and expertise. However with the economy the way it has been, half way through his rebuild of the garage he was let go from his job (downsizing) and hasn't finished the ventilation system for the paint stall. I was hoping by spring he would have it done but it isn't working that way. So off of a whim I decided to give a friend of mine a call, who now runs his families bodyshop. He said if we do all of the prep work, and wet sand and polish after it is painted, that he would paint any color (including candies or pearls) for $300.00 to $500.00 depending on weather he had to do any extra touch up work or not. So considering that the paint alone was going to cost me around $300.00 when I was pricing it out, I figured that having a professional paint job including paint and labor for $3-500.00 was awesome. I know the hard part is going to be the prep and finish work but We were going to have to do it all for that price. I was going to do the 2007 Venture blue and black, but now after looking at several different paint colors and bikes I am thinking of maybe a Black Pearl. I feel Chrome lends itself well to Black and vice versa, but that Black Pearl will give it that little extra ooooohhhhh aaaaahhhhh factor. I havent decided weather i'll have the blue or the white pearl added to the clearcoat yet, but I will make that decision when I get to the bodyshop next weekend. Now the bike is being torn apart, and hopefully by tomorrow we will be able to get started on the prep work. Big Mike........who's looking forward to a new paint color as much as spring!!!!!!!
19. Well, I am making more progress on my 84 standard. I have actually repaired the left upper fairing and placed it back on the bike. Just doing this took two tubes of that really nasty smelling epoxy that melts the plastic then cures. I am not sure of the structural integrity of it, but it seems to be solid feeling. I put the dash panel on with the bucket in it, and haven't put the lid on, since it doesn't have a hinge flap anymore. I am keeping my eye on ebay for these beasts. The right upper is going to take lots more work. Probably lots of fiberglass and nasty epoxy. There is enough realestate missing from it that I may have to get creative with some bondo. Right now, I really can't afford a new(er) one, since the good ones seem to be going for approximately $200 on ebay. SO EVERYONE STOP BIDDING AGAINST ME!!! After that I think I can get the rest of the panels back on. Then its off to the paint shop. I think I will leave it to a professional with some good equipment, since it will take me 47 years to rattle can it. I did the false tank, and it turned out very nice, but all the sanding and buffing took about 20 hours. There are some small cracks in the luggage to fix, then I can paint them as well. I think I may use some of that "trunk paint" on the inside, since I have no idea what they used to look like. Right now they look like they were used to haul mud. Things left to do otherwise: Track down leak in or around the gas tank. Find a bolt to hang the right muffler back up. Looks to be a special kind of bolt with a washer made in. Get some nice comfy grips. I like the Kuryakyns i have on my XS, but you don't see them for $30 just every day. New air filter. wire in a stereo. 100 mile per hour test. 1000 miles test. I am sure there is more, but I am weary, its been a long day. One last thing. I really want to thank all who have given and sold me parts, and all those that have given good advice. Some day I hope to return the favors, or at least pay it forward.
20. Just got my BFG Radial TA 155/80/15 installed at Discount tire for $97 otd. Couldn't balance it, but once I told them it was for a trike (no its not) they had no problem mounting it. Took 90 lbs to seat the bead. Got an interesting tip about the white letters. They told me to wash the blue off and hit it with some flat black paint. Have to give it a try. Not a pretty story on how I ended up on the darkside. Had a Metzler ME880 blow on the high way, loaded with me, the wife and our new to us time out camper. Ended ok with no fatalities, but could have been UGLY.
21. Im lookin for parts and watching e-bay close. But ill prolly be buying parts and painting them to match the color I want. I was thinking that most parts for a second gen are interchangable. Is this true? and is it true from 1999 thru 2009? So if I find a front cowl (looking for both pieces) would any year from 99 thru 09 fit my 2000? These parts are $900 to $1100 from the dealer. If i can find them used and paint em I could save some money.
22. just wondering if any of you guys have had to buy paint for a newer rsv-06- my bike had been dropped when i bought it last year and i have been everywhere looking for paint, even the local yamaha doesn't have a clue,i think they call mine very dark red met. but i can't find a code so???? any help -thanks
23. Kinda thinking about the clear lower wind deflectors on the front forks and the clear wind deflectors on the bottom of the front fairing... Since I have a Midnight venture to keep with the midnight theme...I thought they would look better BLACK. I have found Duplicolor paint that is suppose to be exact match to the black on my 07 RSMV. I was thinking about removing the clear plastic lower wind deflectors and the clear plastic deflectors on the bottom of the fairing and painting the inside or back side of them black. This would keep the shine of the clear plastic and prevent rocks and other road hazzards from beating the paint off them. I know I need to becareful with the paint reacting to the plastic and possibly melting them and maybe a special paint may be in order for this. What does the group think about this... What would they look like Black?
24. I figgered I'd toss this out there. Does anyone have a rear wheel off a 2nd gen they're wanting to get rid of? I'm not worried about the paint or what color it is. I'd just like to have a spare rear wheel and brake rotor to have an extra tire mounted up.
25. Well, its that time of year again. Super bowl time. Every year, I spend the first 17 hours of it vomiting compulsively, since the wife really loves it, and trying to change the channel is worth loosing a hand over. After the compulsive vomiting subsides, I try and find other things to do. Computer games, surf the forums, solitaire, watching paint dry etc. This year the paint didn't hold my attention nearly long enough, so I am going to gripe about it here. So, now you all know the truth about me. I really hate football. From peewee to pro, I can't stand it.
