1. with out a doubt this is the worst piece of crap i have ever worked on. i got all the major welding and panel replacement done on the body, and it is at the paint shop. i would have painted it myself, but i'm kind of new to clear coat and i wanted a show job. i painted the frame and started the final assembly this morning. i am having a major delema on whether or not to build the motor. i found a website that has all kinds of race parts for these harbor freight motors. billet rods, roller rockers, cams, etc.. i,m talking serious horse power for a light weight scooter. i,m not sure how it will handle speeds over 80 or 90 mph. so far it looks like a brand new scooter. i was'nt planning on this big of an investment. it's all the little crap that eats you up, hardware, and many other odds and ends. linda asked me how much for the paint job. i never asked. i figure a couple of grand. if it's less i won't feel so bad. there just ain't no cheap cushmans. i sure do love them no matter what the cost. pictures to come. i'm taking alot of them.
2. well i'm way ahead on my winter project. the drive train and engine is all mounted after much machining, fabricating, and welding. had to lengthen the frame 2" to fit the new engine and automatic transmission in. like putting 10 lbs. of crap in a 5lb bag. the body which was hammered from one end to the other, is almost ready for the paint shop, i had to fabricate and weld in some new panels. i have to disassemble it and send the body off for paint, and paint the frame. then i can start the final assembly. it should look almost original at first glance accept for the oversize aluminum wheels and front disc brake. another cushman sleeper will hit the road this winter. i'm hoping for a cruising speed around 65 or 70 mph.. got an idea for a small trailer to tow behind and taking a cross country trip with my buddy on his cushman eagle that i built for him. pics to come soon, i hope. bill:2133:
3. If you have a black version of the 86, I have paint available in the classifieds.
4. Have 2009 RSV with paint problems on the gas tank and fender. It is two toned red & black. It looks like you have rock chips in the paint, but paint was popping off from underneath on red only. Called Yahama to see if they were having a paint problem on the 09s of course they said no. They said to take it to the dealer that you bought it from. So I did. They said they would order me a new gas tank to replace the old one. Last Monday I got the new tank. Took them a day to get the new gas tank on. Now they have ordered the front fender. Don't know when it will get here. They didn't put the badges on the tank. I kind of like it without them. If you have any paint looking problems don't be surprised because it is popping off from underneath the paint. Especially on the newer bikes. Looked like it had the measels. LOL It looks good now. Hal
5. My Unigo trailer was black which matched my '04 Midnight when I bought it. Now that I have the blue '07 it bothered me that the trailer didn't match. So, a friend of mine helped me paint the upper 2/3rds of the trailer this weekend. That PPG paint stuff is expensive. It turned out pretty good. The color match is good but the finish isn't as glossy as I had expected. I've been told that I can polish it to a higher gloss once the paint cures for a few weeks. Attached is a poor photo of it. I still need to add a tape pin stripe at the color break similar to the bike. The paint store couldn't find a paint code so they used a device to scan the bike's paint and then mixed the paint to match. I'll post a better photo once I'm finished with it. DT
6. What is everyone doing, if anything for paint protection? I can see how the lower fairings and bags could get chipped up, and the tank will see some wear as well. Is the only option to buy sheets of 3m and custom cut it? I wasn't particular about the color of my new bike, but I forgot what a pain black paint is to keep clean and swirl free.
7. Been busy down at Grandpagak's for the last week. I have stripped down my 83 VR, for a paint job. I figured, since it hasn't gone deer hunting for 4 years, it is about time to do it. Gary had offered to do the painting & figured on 3 days for the prep work. I pulled the plastic, pinstriping & had fun getting the pinstriping adhesive off. I also did repairs as needed with the plastex, prior to passing off to Gary, for his part. These pics are of the 2nd attempt, as there was a lot of fisheyes looking back after the 1st try. A bug also bit the farm, on the front fender this time. But it will be under the fork brace, so I will pick it out & most likely clean the bugs track from center & install as is. I did get extra paint, for any possible future work needed & I wanted it to be the same stuff. But here are some pics taken tonight, with more to follow later in the week.
8. Is this the only place to get paint for your RSV I heard the clear coat may yellow? Thanks
9. For those of you who didn't see my first post. I bought an 83 first gen about a month ago for about 1000 dollars. While the bike ran it needed some TLC and thus the low price. After re-connecting all the wires going to the various sensors and fixing the problems that set off all the warnings the previous owners didn't want to bother with I was finally able to move on to the plastic. The pictures I'll be posting will show the before paint and after paint but not before the repair work was done. (Mostly because I forgot to take pictures of the all the damage before I started.) I got it all put back together about a week ago, (after about 3 weeks of having it torn apart) and today was able to take it on a local ride (Ride for the Fallen (soldiers)) that was 120miles long. The ride was great and there were over 200 bikes that participated. The only hiccup was a storm that decided to rain on us for a min (and if you were lucky like me and Utadventure hail on us too) but it was only for a few min and then everything cleared up. So in the end I'm thinking of getting a licence plate that says 'Stark' or some such to go with the paint scheme (even though that wasn't what I had in mind when I picked out the colors.) http://s739.photobucket.com/albums/xx33/shtrdthrd/Iron%20Man%20Paint%20Job/ Edit: Not sure why the link doesn't go to the paint album. Just click on the album "Iron Man Paint Job"
10. This post is about a subject that started on the diamond cut thread, and rather than hi-jacking the thread I thought it would be better to start another. I picked up a spare set of 2ndGen head fins with the idea that I might paint them black for a different look. After seeing the diamond cut examples I decided to go another direction. #1 because I'm not sold on the Diamond look, and #2 I'm broke... So this morning I stopped by my local auto paint supplier and picked up a roll of 1/8" Fine-Line masking tape, I then dropped by BriteTex, my favorite polisher, and discussed some options. We came up with some great ideas. Like grinding the fin edge flat, and buffing it to a mirror gloss.... and just buffing the edge out. Both options were over 100 bucks... too expensive So I decided to just go ahead and try taping the existing edge finish and see what happens. I also decided to do only one fin and then do the rest if the first one worked out. Attached is a running pictorial of what I did. There were some mistakes made that can be corrected on later efforts, but at 65mph they shouldn't be noticable. The over all look on the bike will happen a little later on, and I'll post pics of the finished product then. Cost.... $37 bucks for the fins, $9 bucks for the tape, and 10 bucks for a couple of cans of paint. $56 dollars total. I kinda like the look so far.
11. Anyone have the paint codes for a 2007 Galaxy Blue/Raven Venture? Sticker under the seat doesn't seem to match the fiche. TIA Duck
12. Anyone know where I can find a lower right cowling from a 2006 Black Cherry RSV? Tonight I hit some piece of metal with the front tire & it ended up knocking a 2" diameter chunk out of of the bottom of the cowling, to the right of the radiator. Thought I had swung around it but apparently not! Hope to find the same color so I don't have to paint it, but am guessing that won't happen so probably will settle for any color I can get and have it painted. But if I have to do that, I might as well paint the whole bike...hmmm...
13. One of my buddies has a Harley Fatboy (he's not too bright). But I didn't see his bike all last year. I asked him why isn't he riding, and he said, "you'll see". He came to work all this year with such a bad a$$ paint job, he made all of us want to paint our bikes. The truth is, with a regular bike (without the saddle bags, front fenders and touring pack), it's much easier to design and paint something cool. But with all the extra stuff on the Venture, I think it's harder to keep clean flowing lines. I've looked at 3 other posts that have a few custom paint jobs. Some I like, some I didn't care for. I'm a simple guy. Maybe flames, but everyone has them. I'm not much for murals. Two tone might be my best answer. I have a 2000 RSV with the red on red color. Does anyone have a custom (even if it's slightly custom) second generation RSV they'd like to show off. I'd love to get some ideas. I'm leaning towards candy red with an ostrache seat. Any pics will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
14. Well, I found out today that blue Loctite eats paint, and eats plastic. I loctited the bolts on my windshield, to keep them from coming loose. I didn't think I used very much. I put everything back together, and came inside for a few hours. I just went outside, and see the damage is done. It runs all of the way down my lower. If I try to wipe it off, it just takes the paint off. The clear deflector is etched now, and will have to be replaced. I will probably wait until winter, and then have the lowers painted, and paint the deflectors to match. It just pi$$es me off, is all. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/Damage001.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/Damage002.jpg
15. Does anybody have the paint code for a black and gray 05 RSTD? The gray is what I need.
16. just want to say bike is finaly home. but due to my helath right now and cleaning up after my aunt and getting her settled in the home. i cant ride it:crying: Dianne has the keys. we treated it with seafoam damn that stuff it getting expensive almost 9 bucks a can. but worth it. the exhaust has been fixed thanks to you members and your donations. all the brakes are done. Dianne said i can go and clean it LOL. looks like end of month she,s getting a 2005 v star ? 650? i hope i got that right? mechanic said the bike runs darn good. but next spring might want to consider carb work?? not sure what he meant by that? got a friend whos son is takeing auto body. he,s checking to see if this winter he can take all my plastic in for a paint job. i just pay cost of paint and school shop cost. looks like some things are comming around for me? so latter im going to be asking how to pull the fairings and stuff LOL once again thanks to all of you im keeping the dream alive.
17. Ok, I got a fairing to use temporary(midnight fairing on a gray bike, HMMMMM?), so I can fix and paint the boo-boos on my gray RSV fairing (Why do my bikes always seem to take on the Johnny Cash's one piece at a time Cadillac look? ). Some of the scratches are kinda deep, so I'm wondering what sand paper to use and will conventional body filler (aka Bondo) stick to ABS? Will "rattle can" primer work, or is there something special needed for ABS? Guess I gotta be real careful of the pin-stripes, 'cause I bet Yammie is REAL proud of those!!! Once I get the scratches out, I guess there is no hope a Stealership will give up the paint codes, Huh?
18. Been working on this since Oct 09, Finally ready to try out on road-maybe tomorrow. Didn't take before pic, but was busted up plastic all black like bags. Still need to paint bags to match rest of plastic. I can see small problems with my paint job, but for most part I think it looks great. Anyone have a right hand dash vent that I am missing?
19. factory paint on the ventures or is it better to start all over and paint the whole bike after doing crack repairs on the fairing?
20. Does anyone know what chrome (plastic/ABS?) fender tips would fit my '83 Venture front fender? What more current bike model fender would be comparable in size, curvature, etc.? I need to cover up some paint damage near the tip from a recent paint exchange with a girl's car (I wished she would have looked, & I was more careful that time). Thanks, Doug
21. My house was vandalized last night. This is the cleanest pic I can post - all the others include obscene drawings or words in pink latex paint on the house and car. Cleanup was no fun and I still am going to have to replace all the siding, maybe the front door, paint the side and garage doors, re-seal the deck after pressure-washing it and more. The deputy that came estimated the damage at $10,000. We live in a semi-rural areaa not known for crime or mindless acts like this. Time to go to Walmart and buy a 12 gauge and/or a baseball bat. http://i45.tinypic.com/nyy5tu.jpg
22. I want to repaint my motorcycle. It is currently a two tone paint scheme (see pic in my signature). Where would I find the paint codes? Since I will likely paint it myself, I will likely just go with the single color - haven't decided yet if it will be the red or the gray.
23. Click on the link below to view the custom paint on my RSV http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=12970&id=100000690923753&l=ea517f50f9
24. Does any one have the two paint codes for the 2000 red two-tune venture. I need to know witch red is the top and witch red is the bottom. I'm having a custom fishing rod made in that color. :cool10::cool10:
25. hello every one. im looking at some 1990 side covers and a seat. will these fit my 1984? im trying to get as much good parts as i can then do a paint job after the season ends
