  1. Hello my friends, I have a situation and could use some of your feedback. I am looking to purchase another Royal Star,it is a 1996 BEAUTIFUL bike that has sat for about years in a garage, here is the catch. The bike starts on full choke idles badly and stalls when you crack the throttle. The present owner has let me put SeaFoam and fresh gas in the tank which actually has made the bike run(idle) worse. It appears to be running on 3 cylinders as the upper left exaust header does not get hot. My job has taken me from my home where I had my shop and now I live in an apartment where I dont have the resources to work on the bike. Not knowing shop rates for what appears to be fouled carbs the owner is willing to give me $300.00 off the asking price because of its running condition. Do I pull the trigger and buy the bike and hope that the repairs dont exceed $300.00 or walk away. The bike has 18,000 miles.
  2. Whoa!!! Don't get too exited! this is not a complete bike, the engine, wiring harness and "brains" were removed for a trike. which leaves everything else. But if you want a good "everything else" give me a shout and I'll put you in touch with the owner.
  3. I'm a soon to be picking up a (new to me) 2008 Venture. My addVenture started by searching the internet adds to find the best buy (for me). Many slipped by from my hesitance... some just didn't feel right... some were priced like they were gold lined. Searches, eBay & Craigs List were used. After days of searches, notes & research; I stumbled upon a poor lonely Red/Black Venture abandoned by it's owner, which apparently left his bike love & turned over to the Dark Side. Yes, the previous owner succumbed to all of the Harley marketing & mantra; & is now marching in line with his buddies (this is just a guess). Well, the poor bike is anxiously waiting for me to pick it up & take it home. She (the bike) already nows that I love it & have started making preparations to take care of it. The plan is: search for & buy a Dowco cover for it as soon as I find a good price [Anyone have suggestions] buy insurance from Progressive the Wednesday before I get it purchased ticket to fly to Akron, OH (Orbits is the best) [leaving early & arriving in Akron on 11/7 @ 11:45AM] eat hardly anything before flying to minimize human pit-stops on the way home [pack some energy bars] after landing in Akron, get transportation to Dover, OH (in process of finding) [anyone have any recommendations - Shuttle service?] taking my rain gear/suit, full helmet, ski gloves, boots, level 2 armor jacket/pants & security after giving cashier check to owner, putting plate on, checking tire pressures, checking fluids, filling up with gas (adding Sea Foam)... I'll mount my GPS & call the wife that I'll be starting the final leg of my addVenture. Lastly, start the long fun ride from Dover, OH to Richmond, VA Woo! Hoo! I can't wait. These Venture bikes seem like they were made for me. So... I'm still looking for recommendations on: best transportation to get for travel from Akron Airport to Dover any suggestion for buying a cover for the new girl... - manufacturers - models - sellers Thanks; johnb
  4. Hey everyone. I'm the proud new owner of a 2008 Venture. YAY! But the previous owner must not have liked the tank emblems and he removed them. So..... to me the bike looks a little naked. Anyone have some tank emblems that they would like to sell? Any help sure would be appreciated! Thanks, Jim Garner
  5. I rode over to the local bike shop today. They are predominently a Honda shop, but also sell Yamaha and Kaws. Just as I was getting ready to leave I see this guy come running toward me. He said that he just had to talk to the owner of a Venture. He went on to say that he had sold his bike and really liked the looks of the Venture and wanted feedback from an owner. Well...I not the most objective guy when it comes to my Venture. I haven't had and of the troubles that some have had on this forum; no chirp, no more whine than on my last two GWs and I love the ergos on this bike more everytime I ride it. The only problem I've had was taken care of with new rubber. Anyway, we talked about the bike for a while and we both had to leave. We'll see, maybe we'll have a new member soon. I talked up the forum too!
  6. I live in Rome, Georgia and last week a woman saw my 2nd gen and told me her husband had a venture for sale. Today I had a chance to take a few pictures with my cell phone and talk with the son-in-law of the owner. It is a white Venture Royale and I am told it is a 1983. I saw some of the fairings that had been removed and the son-in-law said everything is there except for the headlght cowling. I have been told that the bike runs but the carbs need a lot of help and the starter solenoid is bad. The owner is bypassing the solenoid to start the bike. I didn't ask to start it because it was raining today and the bike is parked outside with a tarp covering it from the windshield to the trunk but not covering the sides or front forks/wheel. I pulled back the tarp for a few minutes to get the attached photos. The owner is asking $1000 but I suspect he will take less. This would probably be a good parts or project bike. Unfortunately I didn't get the mileage but I can get this if needed. I don't know much about what to look for on a 1st gen so please call me on my cell 706-346-1886 and I will try to get whatever info you need or I can provide the name and cell phone for the owner. Quillian
  7. Looking for an owner manual for my 2006 RSTD. Also would like a Clymers, but they seem to only go up to 2003. Anybody have one available . . . or can point me to a source. Thanks.
  8. i was reading in general tech talk about some members wanting to remove their tank badges. i like mine, but the right one is scratched up from a previous owner uh-oh. If anyone wants to sell their tank badges, please let me know via PM or this thread. thanks, dale in La
  9. after talking to some of you guys and listing to talk about warranty i got to thinking way back when i bought the bike june of 08 i didnt receive any paper work on the warranty so i e-mail the place where i bought the bike and this is the response i got from them Here is the warranty info that you requested , at the time of sale to you we did not transfer the warranty into your name, this was an error on our end. This does not matter however as the warranty is on the bike and not the person. Today, I will have your information added to the owner record at Yamaha so that their records are up to date. When it is updated online I will forward you another copy of your owner registration card. Thanks i bought it in KC at RENO"S a real nice bunch to deal with.
  10. Well, it was bound to happen. With a sigh I pulled into the driveway after playing ball tonight and there was an empty space where the midnight was parked. The new owner came while we were gone and took her away. Good news...its our best buds bike now. Gord (noddy) has bought it and has almost definately sold his 90 to his cousin. The joy just keeps spreading. I will still get to hang around my midnight. Thanks to John (midnightspook) who parted with it a little over two years ago....its a great bike and will be well looked after by Gord. Now to start getting more goodies for my beautiful blue! Folks.....if anyone has a set of risers they are getting rid of let me know. I need them for sure as Gord wanted the ones I had on the midnight left on. I cant afford new bars and cables so the risers will have to do.
  11. I found a great deal on a 2003 Kawasaki Nomad 1500FI and it came with a Baxley single bike trailer for under $7000 from the original owner. The bike only has 3,300 miles. Let the riding begin!
  12. I have completed a trade for my 05 Venture and picked up my new to me 03 Fully loaded BMW K1200LTC. The bike is pacific blue and has anything and everything I could want on it. The new owner of my bike was given the information regarding this site and hopefully will register an gleen a wealth of information from all of you. If my memory serves me right he is a former roadstar owner and is familiar with Yamaha's in general. We met in Susanville at the Black Bear diner, had lunch and swapped pink slips, keys and headed home. His name is Randy Thomas so if you see him come on give him a warm welcome and please don't treat him the way you did me. Unlike me, he is a really nice guy! The BMW handles like a dream and I actually like the slow speed handling of it better than the RSV. The seating and handlebar positions will take some getting used to. There are alot of gadgets onboard to figure out too. I will post pictures soon! :ice_thy-vi101212101Jack - Thanks for the lead on the bike. It took us several months to get to today due to weather and schedules but it is a done deal. I will keep sticking my head in from time to time, I know M lurks here all the time. To be honest I haven't been hanging out on any sites of late other than duck hunting and dog training sites since I have recently purchased a male chocolate lab that has just finished his first stint of waterfowl training and is due to go back mid May for the final 3 months of training. I will be hunting him in the upcoming season.
  13. Botched Pizza Order Leads to Beating PALM COAST, FL (AP) -- Flagler County authorities say a restaurant owner pistol-whipped and beat a customer who complained that his takeout order was incorrect. Joseph Milano, the owner of Goomba's Pizzeria, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and released on bail. According to a police report, security footage from the pizzeria shows that Milano struck Richard Phinney with a gun. He then jumped over a counter and started to assault Phinney and his roommate. Phinney was at the pizzeria to collect a refund for a calzone, which he said was prepared incorrectly. He was taken to a hospital after the incident with a bloodied head. 14. I have a 2000 RSV and have noticed that when doing my low speed maneuvers I can slip the clutch to a certain point then it suddenly grabs. Is this a spring issue or time to replace clutch plates? It seems to grab more when it is hot vs. when it is colder. I have also noticed when I am at50-60 mph and trying to accelerate I get a lot of what feels like chatter. Maybe it is just a lack of torque, but in order to get any acceleration I have to shift down. The chatter or vibration is so bad it shakes the entire bike. I am thinking about doing a Barnett clutch and springs just to "fix" something, but thought I would check with the experts first. The bike has 30k on it and the previous owner did have a trailer hitch installed on it. Not sure how much abuse it got, but until I got it the bottoms of the floorboards were virgin. I am guessing I work the clutch more doing tight maneuvers than the previous owner would have done pulling a trailer.
  15. I know there are a lot of us "midwesterners" that have gone to Briebacht's in Balltown north of Dubuque IA. It was the oldest bar in Iowa and overlooks the Mississippi River Valley. Last Christmas, it was burnt to the ground. They rebuilt and the business was bigger than ever. It is a favorite spot for bikers to go to. Anyway....just got a call from the hubby...jumped on the Dubuque newspaper...and it burnt to the ground this morning! We were just over there a few weeks ago, and the owner was so proud of the new place. If I remember right... the first fire was electrical or in the kitchen...but a second time in less than a year? I just hope it isn't some nut out there with a vendetta.
  16. I have a red 2000 VGenture with 53,000 miles on it. Bike is in good shape. Runs great, has had regular service intervals. The deal with this bike is when it was new it was dropped at low speed and was damaged. The owner who bought it had a replacement policy so the bike was replaced for him, then repaired and sold with a rebuilt title. The only part the original owner said was replaced was the left hand frount crash bar and the left hand saddle bag was repaired. The fairing has a couple of small cracks in it, that the second owner, who i bought from, told me he did when he let it fall over in the carport while cleaning it. Not done in the first mishap. Thanks Gregg
  17. How do you transfer the remaining warranty on an RSV to the new owner, any cost?
  18. Well, Mrs GigaWhiskey has a new ride and I got some work to do! She now owns a 1975 CB750K. In the pics, there is a quick before and after (as soon as I got home!). Basically, now it looks like a motorcycle. It is still a bit tall for her challenged inseam but that will be a no brainer. It may see some lowering blocks, shorter shocks and a 16" back rim with a nice fat tire. Then I will need to see how I can trim some from the front. I may consult Rick "Butt" Butler about the seat or look for a new one. I am going to enjoy this project! She runs good too and no signs of ever going down. She actually may be the 3rd owner of this bike where the 2nd one had it only 6 months. The story is the original owner was 75+ and could not deal with it any longer. If those miles on the speedo are right, there is close to a new bike there. 'specially when I get my hand deeper into it. Oh, Mrs. GigaWhiskey actually likes the old school cafe racer look, go figure, lol.
  19. I am the proud new owner of a Tour Deluxe and an old owner of a Magellan GPS unit that my wife and I use on all of our car trips. My question is: Has anyone here seen an aftermarket power cord that can be wired to a bike? I'm not worried about the mount, I can fabricate something. Thanks in advance...
  20. I seen a Purty White Venture at Ryans yesterday. I think it belongs to RiderDuke. My Honey and I had stopped in for a Bite to eat. While I was there I was looking around to see if I could spot the Owner. Ahh well , I didn't do to good. When we came out the bike was still there. So I had to check it out again. Purty.....
  21. I'm a **new** Venture owner, and I'm looking for some recommendations on what kind/type of highway pegs are "made" for a 2008 model?
  22. did anybody steal my new m/c , i found a white 88 1st gen , this one was a knock out bike , very good lookin , called the owner , he said somebody was going to look at it and he would call me if the guy did not buy it , jim called him yesterday am was told still not sold , i call him after i got off work to tell him i'll buy it . he told me somebody from clearwater fl bought it . is anybody here the lucky new owner of a very pretty 88 white 1st gen ? if you are CONGRATS and i hate you . thom
  23. Just talked to the owner of an 1986 Venture(plain NOT Royale) in Princeton Ontario for anyone looking in this area. Is kind of pricey . Asking price is negotiable $5500can. ONLY 25000klms(original according to owner) Been sitting for roughly 5 years so carbs need to be cleaned, needs tires and general TLC. Has new battery. Would like to buy myself to keep as low klm bike but no money. Looks to be in good shape for someone that wants low klm bike.
  24. That'll get your attention.... Just watched as my 89 Blue and matching trailer drove away with a new happy owner. It is a sad day as that bike was the start of me riding again. It was a beautiful bike and ran like a top. Thanks to Boo, who sold it to me and got me started. Will the new owner join us? I dont know....I get the feeling he may not...didnt seem too interested in forums. But it is gone now and will be ridden as it should be and not sitting in the driveway gathering dust.
  25. Ok...here goes....dumb new owner question.....do the turn signals on the RSTD turn off automatically? It seems to me that sometimes they do, and sometimes they do not.....I could not find anything in the manual about it....is this a feature I have, but did not know about?
