  1. On our trip to Big Bend we took some photos, but did not notice that the photo selector was on "video". The videos are very short. I would like to somehow save them as individual photos so I can salvage the original target. Would appreciate any information on how to do so.
  2. About a month ago I went stupid, and didn't lock the Suburban parked out in the front of the house. Someone decided to releave me of my GPS, mount, and power cord. The GPS was my original, not worth reporting due to value, so I just wrote it off. I bought it off WOOT for $99 new. Last night while cruising Craigs List, lo-and-behold, there it is. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/ele/2049450733.html I still have the original box, serial number, etc., but I'm not quite sure what to do??. Full frontal assault with a pair of 9mm Glocks, or call the authorities. I chose the later. Never did file a theft report, so had to do that online. Without a report, no crime had been committed. Now waiting to be called by a detective. Meanwhile I did send the seller an email from my 'stealth' hotmail account and he replied. I now have his name. The reason I know it's my GPS is that in the pictures it has a strip of while velcro pile right above the screen. I put it there to hold a home made hood I used when I rode the '83 to Ft Collins in '07. The chance of two of them having that are pretty rare. Like chicken lips. I was told to call Friday morning if I hadn't heard from a Detective by then. I don't think the guy is going to sell it very soon as his asking price is on the high side, and GPS's are all over the place on CL. http://www.cast-aways.com/CONDORPICS/Sam-Side.jpg
  3. After researching different antennas on line I found a good deal on an amplified AM-FM antenna at my local PEP Boys! The unit cost $19.99 + tax. I tested and mounted it below the windshield. It works better than the original 48" CB whip. Attached are a few photos for anyone interested in the install.
  4. Ok, before I decided to fix my original tank, I took RandyR up on his offer to sell a gas tank to me. only caveat is that it is a black tank. I just set it on the frame and took some pics, I kind of like it. opinions anyone?? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ solution B is that Jus Monkeying Around member was a big factor in fixing my original tank and that I should have it painted. He offered to pick up supplies and help me do the repair. Well at the Houston Maint Day, we did just that. We fixed the hole and another Hal is going to paint it. I will post that later as it comes along.
  5. There were lots of things I like about my Venture...the brake pedal is, (or rather was), not one of them...so I decided to change it. The original was too high and too far back. It seemed to me that it would be much easier to use if it was in front of the footboard instead of above it. This was all a lofty concept until I got too close to a chop saw and a welder. I cut the pedal from above the hub. Then I welded a length of steel below the hub and welded what remained of my pedal to that. The brake pedal arm is now about twice as long so to keep the stroke at the footpad about the same, I drilled a hole above the original which connects the pedal to the master cylinder lever. I also chopped the footpad off of the pedal, and moved it forward and up about an inch each. The results, in all their, (yet unpainted), glory can be viewed in the attached photos. Now the brake pedal is convenient, effective and allows me to use the entire footboard comfortably. All in all, I consider it a great improvement.
  6. OK I believe i have an ignition switch going bad. I turn on the key and nothing other than the stero works. I keep turning it off and on and finally the dash and everything else comes on 28,000 miles on the bike. Does everyone agree it's the switch and if so where is cheapest place to buy one and can I keep the original lock and key.
  7. Ok, so I'll be putting the original engine back in my 84 soon. But before I do so I'll be taking care of the second gear issue. It has never had the slipping yet, so I wanted to do some preventative maintenance before I put it back in. I figure it would be less costly if I took care of the problem now than if I wait until it starts slipping out of second gear. You know what the mechanics say,"You can pay me now, or you can really pay me later". But anyway, is there anything else in there I should address while I'm in there besides just the defective thrust washer? While I've got it apart I was also going to put in one of Buckeye's higher output stators. Can I still get one of those stator cooler upgrades somewhere? I'll also be putting in one of Buckeye's spin-on oil filter adapters and solid engine mounts as well. Am I missing anything? Any other suggestion while I'm in the process? Thanks, Bill
  8. Been meaning to pass on this info especially for those who have original foam grips that are showing wear. About ten years ago, I purchased some foam sleeves that went over my original grips. While I liked their comfort and feel, the quality of the foam was was not nearly as good as the original grips. However, the original grips on my 88VR were wearing badly so I decided to look for some new foam grip covers. I finally found a manufacturer that makes them - called "Grab On Quality Foam Grips" in WA. To my pleasant surprise, they make a size that is a perfect fit the 5in long x 1 1/2 in diameter original foam VR grips. They stay in place without need for any glue and are extremely comfortable and durable (so far). The manufactures says they are made from extra durable EPDM foam and claims to guarantee satisfaction. They are also an inexpensive fix at a price of about $10.
  9. Today I removed the old R/R and replaced it with the newer Shindengen Mosfet R/R (www.roadstercycle.com) . The only modification I made is to put it on the left upper side of the fairing, rather than the original location below the left footrest. I removed the old tuner and cassette tape from the left fairing, and will form a lockable storage box from ABS black textured plastic in its place and use the original lockable Yamaha lid and form a piece of ABS plastic to cover the old holes. (Thanks to SaltyDog in AR for the detailed help and description on his modification.) I have attached a couple of photos showing the old/new Regulator Rectifier, and also a picture of the location of the new R/R. The original connector plugs to the stator were pretty nasty, so I cut it off, soldered the wires from the new R/R (yellow wires in photo) to the white stator wires, then put heat shrink tubing on them for good measure. Couple that with an Odyssey PC680MJ gel battery, along with an Argus "Battery Bug" and I am livin' life in "high cotton."

  11. I would like to put chrome rims on my 2006 tour deluxe.I found a company Cycle Image out of California that dose a swap with your oem rims. You give them your core and they send you the original rim chromed. My question is how hard is it to install the bearings back on the rims, or do I need the dealer to do this. Thanks for any help you guys or gals can give me.
  12. Lookin to replace my short clearview. Has anyone purchased a shield from ceebailey's? I'm lookin to get back to the original height and width.
  13. The seat on my MK1 is faded. Does anyone know what can be used to restore it to it's original black? Something that won't rub off on clothing.
  14. Over the winter, Grindo's bike took on a whole new look.... From the original gray to black...
  15. I know this is silly but coming from a Harley air cooled engine I'll be darned if I can find the radiator cap on my 2000 Venture MM, someone enlighten me please as I don't have a manual yet and it only has 6,000 miles on it and has set most of the last year. I need to change all the fluids and the tires before putting it on the road. Still original tires, although no cracking or dry rot visable I won't ride it around the block on them. Having to learn all over again now that I went back non-American.
  16. Good Morning All, Has anyone bought or tried the Potato Chip Seat offered by Pacific Coast Star for their Tour Deluxe? They charge $160.00 for the seat plus a core deposit on your original seat. They build the seats from the original seat chassis. Their claim is: that their mod will be much more comfortable than stock, and that it will lower you by three inches. The way it works is, you order the seat, receive it, and then you have to weeks to try it. If you like it, you send them your original seat as a core deposit and they credit your card for the core deposit. If you don't like the new seat, you send it back to them. Please see the following links: http://www.pacificcoaststar.com/pcs/royal_star_seats.htm http://www.pacificcoaststar.com/pcs/faq.htm I would appreciate any input. Regards, Tony
  17. Going to have to jump the bike to get home tonight. Batt. was dead earlier today, put a short charge on it and it fired up. Rode it to work, (32 miles on hwy) figuring it should be ok. Four hours later, it won't start. Jumped it from a car battery (car not running) and it fired right up. Have not tested yet, but I am pretty sure it is the battery and not the charging system. It is the original battery - 3 yrs and 1 month. What is the part number for the battery and what CCA do I need. I am at work and don't really have time to investigate all this. Thanks
  18. I have a nearly new E-Bay found Progerssive rear shock and spring assembly ready for installation in my 86 Royale. Does anyone have access to a copy of the original paperwork that would have been included with the shock when new?
  19. I had the great pleasure to help a fellow VR.ORG member add a few custom pieces to his VR recently and I wish I could say I had a hand in fabbing up the body on this 86'VR but I would be lying!! Please enjoy these pics of one of the most original VR's I have ever seen. By the way, this bike belongs to Steve Crossley and he is a bit shy about braggin' about his scoot, BUT I'M NOT! Enjoy. Earl
  20. I've checked the post and have not been able to find a tread about this problem. I just bought a 2001 with 4,550 miles on it. When I arrived the previous owner was warming up the Venture. He said it was cold natured and took awhile to warm up. He said he usually would just ride with the choke on until it warmed up. My 2000 Venture if you do have to pull out the choke you just pull it out for a few seconds and then push the choke in and it is fine. This 2001 you have to leave the choke out for 5 minutes or more before you can push it in or the Venture will die. I test drove the Venture before I bought it and it flies on the highway. It runs very strong and smooth. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be the problem? The Venture still has the original tires on it so I'm going to assume it has the original plugs. I'm going to put new plugs in it but I would think that if the plugs had anything to do with it that it would not run so strong or smooth on the highway. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Harry:bang head:
  21. Does anyone have an original Sec Gen radio antenna available? The first owner replaced it, for a short rubber radio antenna...and I like to replace it for an original antenna.
  22. This is the wifes computor. I'm locked out mine. Can't boot it up. We had a ton of dropped power today due to the big storm that hit California, and the last time I tried to reboot the system I get this "\windows\system32\config\system is corrupt or missing" It goes on to tell me to stick the original setup CD in... which I never had... and hit 'r' for repair. The thing came from DELL with windows XP Media already loaded. Any ideas???
  23. Took a while but got her done. Painted bike black has blue pearl flake and silver looks great in the sun. Put on alot of billet chrome. Black was original whine color. Got her out yesterday, had some nice weather here in Mississauga ontario at last. Screaming Red:Venture:
  24. So, I was going through my parts bin and came across these. These are the original mock-up deflectors that Dan had made based on the original style. As a goof I added the diamond plate tape just to see what it would look like, since I was going to toss them anyway. They dont look too bad and I really hate throwing anything away, so, if anyone here wants these before I toss them, let me know. They are made out of the same 6061 material we are using for the deflectors that we are selling but this set was based on the stock design, not the larger set that we have.
  25. I'm totally frustrated with the highlight bar on this bike.. I'm not sure what the issue is but I can never get it fully tight on, and half the time it is as if you missed the treads altogether, but it will hold the bar up for a while but loosen right off.. if the bolts don't go in at JUST the right angle, you can turn and turn all you want, it won't tighten up more.. And once you do get it right, there's really no simple method to get a tool in there to tighten it up enough not to cause it to flop in the wind or come loose again.. So my first winter project is to rip the dang thing off and go for an alternate route. I want to have 'something' up front for better illumination and better 'notice me' detection from cagers.. I don't have the original signal light bar since I'm not the original owner of the bike but I still have my V-Star signal light bar and though I haven't tried it yet, I think it could be used since both bikes do have similar parts.. can anyone confirm this? If such is the case, then I would need to find an alternative highway light setup, big enough blob of light to be noticed, light enough not to be bouncing thus causing vibrations and so on.. What are my alternatives? What do you have that's not OEM etc? Thanks M8
