  1. I installed an air horn on my VR today. Took it for a spin and I noticed the turn signals didn't work. If I turn on the hazard switch and turn it off again, then the signals work as they should. Till I turn them on again anyway. When I got back home I noticed that if I leave the hazards on and then turn on the signals the horn goes off. I'll have to undo what I did before tomorrows ride.

    D'OH!

The other day my speedo quit working while I was in Marshfield. I just figured it had froze up and snapped my cable again. But I thought it was kind of strange for that to happen when it wasn't making any noise before it quit. After I got home I started tearing the things apart to get at the speedo. when I got the cable off the speedo I noticed there was nothing inside. When I looked at the other end, it had come loose and fell off and the center slid out somewhere along the road. D'OH!
  3. For while now when posting or typing. if I hit a few different Alpha Keys I lose my post (what I was trying to write or it will pull down window screens only on this site. kinda strange. I was wondering if anybody else has noticed this.. gets frustrating when you type about this much and it will all of a sudden disappear and ya gatta start over again. Jeff
  4. Riding back from a camping trip this weekend (We can do that in Florida during January!) when I noticed my trailer was fishtailing back n forth. I stopped checked tires, good, rearranged camping gear and took off again. Got back up to cruising speed of about 70 and noticed a slight wobble, within a few minutes I've got the trailer fishtailing again. Slowed to below 65 and the fishtailing is gone! Continued home keeping below that speed with no further issue. I have had this trailer for awhile first behind my 1100 Shadow and now behind my RSTD. Until now I always forgot the trailer was back there. Any thoughts?
  5. Was at the big motorcycle show yesterday and came across this... http://www.tent-trailer.com/ Made right here in British Columbia! Also got to check out the new Kaw Voyager. I gotta admit, I do like it although, as many of you have noticed, the plastics, especially the side bags, seemed quite flimsy. When the top lid was open, the entire bag would flex very easily and it seemed as though it wouldn't take much to break the bag. Sticker price was $20,989.00
  6. I need a fuel reserve T-handle for '86 RSV. If anybody has or knows of one that is availible I would appreciate it. We were coming back from the Smokeys and stopped at a rest area and when we returned to the bike my wife noticed a screw lying on the passenger foot rest, I noticed no reserve valve handle. I think it vibed out cause I had a tire that was cupped pretty bad at the time on the back. Should have replaced it before we took the trip.
  7. For some time now I have been reading about members going to the smaller front tire and getting better handling at parking lot speeds. I never went to the smaller tire because I run the Michelin Commanders and they didn't make that size tire. Well now they do and I purchased one to give it a try. I have 400 miles on it and here are my observations. Slow speed handling. I personally noticed no difference at all. Then again I never had a problem with slow speed handling. Highway speed handling. Here is where I noticed a BIG difference. The bike feels like it's 200lbs lighter in the corners, she really feels good and will track true through the corner. So far I have not noticed any problems with it following the tracks in the road. The bike is real responsive and easy to go from side to side. Wet driving. Here is where I haven't felt too comfortable. I have never slid out on wet roads with Commanders before, but I did several times this morning under braking. I didn't have any problems in corners, but I was not pushing it either. Now I am not sure just how much it had rained prior to my riding but it was a very light drizzle at the time so it's quite possible that the oil was still seeping up from the road. Jury is still out on that one. Riding 2 up felt very good and handled like a dream. Overall I am satisfied, just want to get some more time on the wet roads, which I should get on the way home tonight and tomorrow.
  8. Hey folks I don't post often but I lurk almost daily. Having said that I believe you all to be pretty solid well informed people. So here goes it, I believe that my wife is cheating on me! Here's what has led me to think this. Lately she's been going out with the girls after work. When I ask who they are she just says you don't know them there just some girlfriends from work. Also it seems that lately if I answer the phone, the caller hangs up but if she does its a conversation thats private and she just leaves the room. Then I grabbed her cell the other day to check what time it was, You'd have thought I had a bomb in my hands the way she rushed over and grabbed that phone. She said that I didn't need to check the time on the phone I could have just walked into the kitchen to check the wall clock? I noticed that these friends always drop her off a few houses down or around the corner, I asked her why. She said she just wants to get some fresh air. So tonight I'm taking a shower and when I get out there's a note on the counter. It says the gals called and she was just gonna have a couple of drinks that she'd be home in an hour or so. Well I'd had enough, I decided I was gonna get a good look at these friends when they dropped her off! So I roll the venture down to the street so I can hide behind it and get a good look when she get's back. That's when I noticed that one of my plug wires it cracked and looks pretty worn. Is this something I can fix myself or should I take it to the dealer? Thanks in advance I know I can count on you folks when it comes to maintenance. Danimal
  9. After my accident, I've noticed a sometimes annoying squeaking in what sounds to be coming from the rear shock on my 07 Venture. Is this a common ailment or is it something serious where I shouldn't ride the bike. The bike handles like it's on rails so I haven't noticed any difference in that area. TIA, Eddie
  10. My 2006 RSTD recently developed a clicking sound at approx. 4000 miles. I first noticed it when backing bike out of garage with the engine off. When slowing down for a stop I noticed it again. It appears to be coming from the rear of the bike, but it does not sound like a dragging pad. I checked gear oil, and it was full. Anyone have the same noise. Missed a beautiful weekend because of concern of doing damage. I did install a Barons rear lowering kit when I first got the bike, but I checked and everything is tight.
  11. I just had my tires replaced by the local Yamaha shop (by a tech service guy who wasn't born when my 1987 Venture Royale was made). After riding it home, I put it on the center stand to work on cleaning the wheels and noticed that even when in neutral the rear wheel does not spin easily. Is this abnormal? I had noticed when trying to back the bike into the carport it seemed very difficult. How easily should the rear wheel turn? Is it possible the tech overtightened something? Thanks for any info on this as I have only had this bike less than two weeks. Larry
  12. I noticed that it is possiable to change your user name and I would like to change mine. The new one should be SWEATTY (don't ask). Thanks.
  13. Noticed that I had poor throttle response especially when cold. Bike hesitates when accelerating. Thought issue could be synch so I checked synch. All carbs were pretty much the same, however I noticed that the vaccum was 12KPa. Manual spec gives 37KPa. Could this be my problem? If so what could cause this. Bike is stock 07 with 7030 mile Thx
  14. The antenna on my 89 VR will not tighten down all the way! When it starts to get snug it feels like it lets go! I think I would like to change to a 2 antenna set up ( looks mostly). I've also noticed my CB and Radio stations aren't coming in as good any more. Any suggestions?
  15. The gift that keeps on giving. We left WV on Monday riding the 89 towing our trailer. The first fuel stop was 120 miles down the road. I noticed some clutch problems only half a lever of clutch and not completly disengaging when stopping. By the time we got into Tennessee the heat index was 100 and the fan was running continously as the temp guage stayed just below the red. Getting off at the pigeon forge exit I totally lost the clutch lever ( no pressure as I squeezed it). MamaMo enjoyed coming to a stop at the exit using the kill switch. We managed to get into the visitors center and let the bike cool down for 30 minutes until I got some lever back. We made it to our rental in Sevierville and I called Jeff. I told him I had some discoloration in the clutch site glass. He said he had seen a hose problem do that same thing and he would bring one to Asheville. We could change and flush it there. We rode around Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg the next day shopping and I was good for about 5 mile or 10 stoplights before problems. I picked up some brake fluid and decided to flush it myself. Thats when I noticed my smallest wrench a 8mm was to big for the bleeder. I called jeff who was now at Asheville and he offered to ride the 90 miles bring the hose and fix it. He made it by 8:45 pm we change hose and flushed the system. Jeff rode back to Asheville that night. The next morning we pulled MamaMo and the trailer up over the smokeys 6000 ft elevation and down to Cherokee,Maggie Valley, and on in to Asheville. The clutch worked like new. At the campground Jeff was non stop tweaking and fixing first gens. I noticed some second genners waiting for a touch from the venture doctor. Many thanks to a guy that keeps on giving.
  16. I would appreciate your thoughts on this as I have a few questions, once again. Apologize for my ignorance upfront. - I can get warranty work at any Yamaha dealer I choose, correct, and not just the one I purchased the bike from? - When I got the bike home, first off it was really dirty, when I washed it yesterday and got it good and clean, I noticed a large scratch running all the way across my windshield….how should I go about getting that replaced, or can it be replaced since I already took delivery of the bike? If I can get it replaced would that be a warranty item? - I notice when I am decelerating the exhaust sputters some, not backfiring, just kind of like it is coughing (if that makes sense). I also noticed it does this when I rev’d in the garage yesterday. - How do I know if they even prepped the bike before I took delivery? My thoughts are all they did was roll it from the show room out to front of the building and wait on me to pick it up. Sorry for the questions, but this is a new bike and I want to make sure I get it off to a good start, and I simply do not trust these motorcycle dealers…at least not the ones around here. Thanks again for your help. jkt
  17. I did a bit of research here, and couldn't quite come up with what I was looking for. Anyway, I just finished a trip out to the Rockies, and got back to Bismarck day before yesterday. I noticed a slight growling sound that I hadn't heard before, and earlier that day the speedo needle had a little shake in it at certain speeds. Well, this morning we're going over to Mandan, ND and when we pulled into town I noticed the speedo had just quit altogether. It made a couple feeble attempts to come back to life over the next couple miles, but during the rest of my trip home (about 250 miles) it showed absolutely no life. From what I've read, it looks like I can remove the headlight assembly, remove the speedo cable and check to see if it's still in one piece, and then move on from there. Does this sound reasonable or am I in for major surgery? The bike's got about 48K on it now, 4k since March. Thanks
  18. While cleaning my recently purchased 2006 RSV (after driving it home 1000 miles), I noticed that on the left side around the carbs & under the tank, everything is covered in a layer of oil/dirt. The right side is clean. I also noticed a drip of oil under the bike & found oil dripping from 1 of the 4 tubes that vent out the bottom left side beneath the passenger floorboard. I'm guessing they're related! How big of a problem do I have & what can be done about it? Could it be just that there was too much oil in the case & if I lower the level I'll be ok? Or is it more serious? Thanks for the help...JR
  19. I have a 96 royal Star, it has been sitting for abut 2 years, I changed the oil and rad. fluid. Went over the bike, everything is tight and works properly. What else should I do? I noticed that my petcock is leaking, does anyone make an after market one for it? Thanks
  20. I have the Star lightbar on the front, and the other day I noticed the headlight has a little wiggle where the light bar attaches to the headlight, almost like the bushing was worn or missing. I popped the headlight out and checked the screw, and the bushing, everything seemed ok. was wondering if anyone else noticed this, and if maybe a new bushing would fix it, or something not to worry about. I work 3rd shift, and I haven't noticed any prolems with the light bouncing around at night or anything. Just an annoying thing, knowing it is there thanks Craig:crying:
  21. ok , folks. i have read in here SEVERAL times that you can install the left side cover/stator cover, with the shifter linkage in the wrong position. well that may work for some, but it DID NOT work for me! after five attempts, i finally figured out WHICH PART of the linkage needed to be turned UP. in the wrong position, mine would ALMOST mate up, but the last 1/8 th of an inch, was a no go.flipped the offending culprit up, and slick as a mink, it went right into place.i also noticed that the top right bolt hole, was just shy of perfect alignment, when the linkage was in the wrong position. so check your linkages real close, the first time, and remember YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PUT ANY FORCE into the re-installation. just jt
  22. Hi. I've bought a non running XVZ1200, 83 model, and have started rebuilding it. I bought a new battery/plugs etc to try and fire it up but it turns over way to slowly. When I press the start button the battery level just drops right down? I've also noticed the starter solenoid gets red hot when the engine's turning overhttp://www.yamahaventureclub.co.uk/forum//smileys/smiley24.gif I burned my fingers on the terminalshttp://www.yamahaventureclub.co.uk/forum//smileys/smiley35.gif, that's how hot it gets.
  23. (04 Mid-Night Venture) I road to work yesterday and noticed the left turn signal was blinking fast. Got to work and looked at the front and rear bulbs as they were blinking. Both lights were blinking but at a fast pace. The right turn was normal. On the way home from work I noticed the right side started blinking fast also. I got home and checked out the right side and it had gone back to normal but left side is still blinking fast. What do you think? Ground wire?
  24. Hey ALL: I added the K&N filters with the Chrome Covers this past weekend....Just took them out of the plastic...attached the new gasket to the inside of the cover....installed the new Chrome covers and put back on the bike... First thing I noticed...It did not idle as smooth...and the "exhaust note" from the right side sounded like my old 68 Ford from way back with a big cam in it... Second when I drove it, occassonally when I let of throttle I get a mild "backfire"....If I really down shift and put pressure on the the system, I MIGHT get a LOUD BANG/POP...Took it to a service tech I know and he has thirty two years in the business....As soon as mentioned the problem in said.."To much oil in the filters...take them out and let them set a while.." He said he had noticed that other K&N Filters were coming in to him with more than normal oil in filter... ANY THOUGHTS? HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM....ANY INPUT WOULD BE WELCOMED... George In Virginia...
