  1. Been fighting a cold, hayfever and finals at school for the last few weeks and now when I feel better and have a short time till spring quarter starts up, I got a couple of things holding me up from getting all the fairing and covers back on the vr. On the diagram below, I can't remember where these,(60), go? I noticed on both inner panels, there are holes the same distance apart, but the collars of the plate are to big for the holes. If they don't go there then what does?
  2. On the way home from work I noticed that my turn signals hads quit working. Then I noticed that all the computer display was blank although the tach was still working, then that quit. When I got home and put the kickstand down everything came back. If I put the ks back up it all went out again. Now, after sitting, it's back to blank when I turn on the switch. I have tried plugging in another computer to no effect. I don't know if the other computer is good but I've checked it out and don't see any noticeably bad solder joints. I also have a nib reserve lighting unit that I am going to try. Anybody have any ideas? I've got my laptop here in the garage with me.
  3. Have you noticed how individuals and dealers write a description on Touring scoots .....Like It comes with all Factory Options and when you look at the scoot you are hoping it comes with all the chrome accessories And than you look at the photo and what you see is a stock touring scoot
  4. Yamaha has a new concept............ Not sure what I think of this thing. just noticed it was 2007 concept but Ive never seen it before. http://www.mbike.com/yamaha/tesseract-concept/2007 David
  5. I have a 2005 Silverado Z71 - A few days ago I noticed that the Speedo wasn't working. I immediately went to the odometer and it was registering mileage. The next time I drove the truck, it was working (speedo) then while driving it quit. Since the initial episode I've noticed it starting and stopping with no indication of trouble. It just comes and goes when ever - I'm guessing that the unit is electrical and not mechanical like they used to be - Anybody have this problem ? or have a solution ? Thanks
  6. Why Me??? But at least it happened in my driveway. Hopped on the RSTC to run a quick errand this afternoon and noticed it did not wanna turn out into the street. Yup, front tire was VERY low. Got the air compressor and pumped it back up. When I took the chuck off, noticed air coming out from the valve stem. It is torn just above the wheel rim. Cannot for the life of me understand what could have pushed it sideways enough to tear it. Oh well!!! As I don't have a M/C jack, just a 2-ton small floor jack anyone have suggestions on how to jack it up enough to get the front wheel off. I'm thinking about running it up on my trailer (it will hold air long enough to do this) where I can tie it off in the rear to hold it upright, then using a 2X4 under the engine to lift the front wheel.
  7. i am wanting to re visit this subject as i was looking at the HF trailer to put my box on, I noticed a disclaimer on the wheels which said 55 MPH Max. most answers had to do with the scooter. I understand about liabilities and such, but it seems like everyone here who pulls a harbour freight trailer goes 60 to 70 regularly. the scooter is not the weak link here, but the manufacturer's warning i am concerned about. U-Haul has the same sticker & i ignored it whist renting one 2 summers ago. i did just fine. has anyone noticed any wheel bearing problems or having to performe wheel maintenance more often or is it status quo and go for these 8" wheels? the trailer i am looking at probably could hold the 12" wheel, but the kit comes with 8", so i will start out with those.
  8. I just recently bought a 1989 Venture Royale and a day ago I noticed a small wet spot under the bike about as far back as the highway pegs. It was so small, I really didn't take time to investigate. But after leaving my bike parked for two cold days at my G/F in Chicago (near freezing temperatures) I noticed that the spot was about 6-8 inches in dia. and appeared to be water... Anyone know where I may get down and look for the source? Water pump seal? Radiator Hose connection? I have no idea. Thank you in advance for your input. I need it. Sunrayman
  9. Just noticed that my time and temperature icon on the bottom of my signature is missing. Anyone know where it went to??
  10. Hello to all. Just returned from a 3800 mi trip. I noticed some spots of oil on the floor on the floor this morning. Not sure where is is coming from but it looks like around the back of the engine on the drive shaft side. Upon further inspection I see I have used about 2 quarts of oil on the trip. It seems to have dropped very quickly as I looked at the oil window a couple of times on the trip and never noticed it being very low. I was driving hi speeds the whole trip. One thing I did do before the trip was to change to Amsoil Synthetic oil .Wondering if any one has ever had this issue. One other thing I noticed was after removing the air cleaner lid I see a lot of oil in the housing. I do know about over filling can cause oil to accumulate in the housing, but I was very careful not to over fill.
  11. My bike suddenly developed a vibration when I roll the throttle on at highway speeds, 60 mph and above. *It started while on a ride last weekend and my wife noticed the vibration from the backrest. Once she pointed it out I noticed it too. My first thought was a problem with carb synch but I synched them right before Vogel and Goose checked them for me while at Vogel. *So I checked them again when I got home and the synch was still perfect. *I also put new caps on the vacuum ports. So now I'm thinking it's an ignition issue. Spark plug, wire or coil. *The plugs only have about 6000 miles on them but I plan to install a new set this weekend. *Is there anything else I can check? *Is there an easy way to check the coils or wires or should I just let the dealer do that? Thanks, Dennis
  12. I forgot to ask you learned mechanics out there.. I did video and photo my work today on the clutch in case I got lost or had to remind myself of something.. and I noticed my clutch hyd line is stuck under the fairing. I have the 2in risers on the bike so that means the fairing doesn't sit against those rubber stops anymore. I had noticed the fairing being closer to the LEFT highway light for some ODD reason and I think I figure out WHY.. When I was in PA and the shop fixed the fuel pump issue, the mech accidently broke something on my audio controller and they took the new one off the 2009 show model and replace the busted one on my bike, requiring the removal and re-installation of the fairing. I'm guessing that in the installation of the fairing, the clutch hose got caught under the fairing on top of that rubber bumper causing the fairing to sit crooked a bit.. not much but enough to be noticed.. And the hose is pinched enough that i can't move it by hand, most likely going to require the fairing to be removed again.. This IS going to sound like one of those stupid questions but is there any way that the clutch control hyd hose being pinched causing any of the previous clutch problems, such as the additional wind pressure pushing down hard enough onto the line to cause a slight dis-engagement of the clutch itself?? Weird but then again, so was that fuel pump snag in PA.. I need to remove the fairing this weekend anyway to chase down a loose wire so I'll now have time to sort out that hose.. reroute it properly.. What have others done to properly support the fairing after installing bigger risers? Thoughts?
  13. I put in AMSOIL 10w40 instead of the recommended 20w40. Noticed the other day when I saw the container under my work bench. Strange I hadn't noticed before. Got a few 1000km's on it. Should I be concerned?
  14. Was out for a nice midnight ride last night. The weather was PERFECT. I rode about 200 miles around the old country roads. I noticed that in the dark, with the hight beams on, the dash lights are darn near blinding. I have got to do something to mute those lights. Any suggestions?
  15. I have a 99 2nd generation and about a month ago I was riding in some of the hills of West Va and it almost felt like the power was not up to par. Then I convinced myself, yep it's fine. Then I noticed one other time that going up a hill it just seemed down on power since I had to roll the throttle all the way up and it was slowly picking speed. I'm thinking, was the hill steeper than I thought. Once again I convinced myself after a few miles all was good. Mileage is still the same so no change there. Last week I ran it up to about 95 on the interstate with no problems. Yesterday the wife and I went for a ride about a 130 miles in the ride I noticed it felt like it was running out of gas and it was about due so I switched to reserve. Stop at the next exit and as I was taking off from the stop sign it felt like there was not enough fuel going to the carb's. Like I was trying to take off in second. I fueled up and switched back to normal. As we got back on the interstate I noticed it did not have the power that it should. No doubt about it this time. It was not missing and appeared and felt like all cylinders were firing. Up and over a mountain on the interstate in slowed down to about 55 mph and that's all she would do. On that mountain I would normally be at 70 or better going over the top with more throttle. I headed back to the house and figured when I got home, first thing to try was see how much gas was coming through the line and see if the fuel pump was running. For the 100 or so miles home the bike ran fine just did not have the power. It did backfire through the exhaust as I slowed down at several stop signs and I was figuring it was not getting the proper fuel. About 5 miles before the house my wife said it's running better isn't it. Yep, sure is. Get home and all is good. Ran it through the gears and no problems. Not sure where to start since no lights or anything. Now the bike is fine until it happens again. Question, has anyone had this happen before? If the pump was to quit working any idea what systoms you would get? Would it quit all together or would gravity give enough fuel to make it run and act like low power. As usual, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Spotsy
  16. When riding I have seen a couple of Harley electra glides with yellow passing lights. They really stood out and I could see them coming much better than the standard passing light. Cant help but think it would help with being noticed. Does anyone know whether you can get yellow units that will replace the stock Yamaha passing light? Thanks JR
  17. a coolant called "Engine Ice". This stuff is proclaimed to be a high tech coolant that can reduce operating temps by as much as 50 degrees F. Before I have a couple gallons of this stuff shipped to me, since I can find it anywhere locally, I thought I'd check around with other members and see if anyone has installed this stuff and if they've noticed any improvement.
  18. I've been blessed with an 06 RSTD with the traditional whine. Here's what I've noticed and maybe its been around and I got left out. I put the 21" clearview on for a week of riding and I began to notice halfway into the trip that the whining became very loud. After returning home I put my stock windshield on that has been cut down 4" and noticed that about 60% of the whine went away. Not that the windshield had anything mechanically to do with it but, I suppose the sound was echoing off the taller windshield. Maybe I'm crazy, but, it sure is alot quiter with the shorter windshield.
  19. a warning for folks with progresive lens glasses, I had mine in the hard case in the trunk for our 100+ degree ride, as I had my sunglasses on, when I got home, I noticed I couldn`t clean them, after looking close at them, I noticed that they are coming apart where the lenses change, I now have a line and little specs that look like they have chrystalized.... so its new glasses tomorrow, at least the lenses....I have never heard of this happening before..
  20. I have a 98 rstd. Was going to get slip on mufflers but noticed exhaust is all one piece. When i was shopping for slip ons i noticed they never listed my year of bike-it started in 99. Does anyone make a whole exhaust kit or does anyone have any ideas or who i can turn to for after market support.
  21. thought i checked my tires this year pretty good but the other day i just happened to glance at my rear (tire) and noticed a crack deep in the tread after removing the tire this eaving i noticed 3 cracks deep in the tread one of them about 3 inches long i believe its a delamination of the tire i had the dealer order a new one today and i'll bge taking this one in tomarrow and see if they can get me some kind of warranty.
  22. I'm in the process of buying a used 07 Venture with 3k miles on it. (upgrading from an 05 RSTD). Test drove the bike today. Runs great, however, when my wife climbs on, the back of the bike seems to drop below level (I pulled up next to a store window and noticed it). She is not that big... (140lbs), so I thought this unusual. Wondering if the rear shock needs replacement? or do they all drop that far? My RSDT does not. How could I tell? Bike seemed fine over bumps, no bottoming out... Also, I noticed a very slight layer of clean oil on the bike facing side of the right cargo bag cover. Would a blown shock do this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks very much in advance for any insite ! Bob
  23. Drove by one of the Ng Units the other day and noticed a name change. It is now named the NATIONAL DEFENCE FORCE!!! Has anyone else noticed in their city? tew47
  24. A few weeks back I changed rear tires and noticed wear on the spines on ring gear. I thought about swaping ring gear and plate with a MK1 84 which I have on hand off a parts bike but noticed that bolt pattern is different. But my question is: Does any one know why I can't swap the whole pumpkin on my MK2 87 XVZ1300 with a 84 MK1 XVZ1200 pumpkin by unbolting from the drive shaft end from swing arm. Will they interchange without a problem.
  25. I noticed today when I stopped to talk with a friend and started the bike back up it didn't spin the engine like it usually does. I then noticed that it wasn't charging like it usually does. When I left his house the bike immediately started charging the way it always does and did so all the way home till I went to put it in the garage, and then it started doing the same thing again, not charging the way it always did before. I just read the stator post and am wondering if it could be the connection that goes into the voltage regulator, or is this a symptom of the stator going out. I replaced one stator on a Suzuki Cavalcade, was not a fun job. Louie
